William Wordsworth (1770-1850) was a major English romantic poet who, with Samuel Taylor Coleridge, helped launch the Romantic Age in English literature with their 1798 joint publication, Lyrical Ballads.

Wordsworth's masterpiece is generally considered to be The Prelude, an autobiographical poem of his early years, which the poet revised and expanded a number of times. The work was posthumously titled and published, prior to which, it was generally known as the poem "to Coleridge". Wordsworth was England's Poet Laureate from 1843 until his death in 1850.

She loves me best, whene'er I sing the songs that make her grieve.

A nice little collection of Romantic poetry. There were some really interesting ideas about identity and love in this time period and how it could relate to art so I appreciated much of this. My favourite poet may have been William Wordsworth. Here are some poems I enjoyed a lot (jotting these down so I don't forget): 'Lines Written a Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey on Revisiting the Banks of the Wye During a Tour, July 13 1798' (Wordsworth), 'Ode: Intimations of Immortality from Recollections of Early Childhood' (Wordsworth), 'The Dream' (Byron), 'The Clod and the Pebble' (Blake), and 'The Fly' (Blake). Good stuff!

A collection of romantic poetry by Keats, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Shelley, Byron and Blake.

I can’t say that I loved this collection but I can appreciate that it gives an overall picture of the romantic poetry of the time. There were individual poems I liked and my favourite which I had not read before would have been the epic poem The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner. This was outstanding and reminded me of the storytelling found in The Odyssey.

A nice anthology featuring works of Keats, Shelley, Wordsworth, Bryon, Blake and Coleridge. I was happy to see both their famous works and works I have never read before. I also appreciated the short bios at the beginning of each poet’s section.

This is a beautifully designed and generally well-selected collection of poetry by Wordsworth, Coleridge, Blake, Shelley, Keats, and Byron. While I've read most of these poems before, I enjoyed re-visiting many them. In particular, I don't think I'll ever tire of re-reading Keats, and moreover, this is the perfect time of year for "Ode to Autumn".

Conversely, I really dislike the organisation of this collection. While each of the six poets has a separate section in the book, their ordering is neither alphabetical nor chronological, and I can't work out the organising principle. I suspect there may be none, which is quite irritating. Further, I noticed a few typos in the text, which aren't features of the original poems. I might overlook this in a cheaper edition, but these Chiltern Classics are marketed as luxury hardbacks; consequently, I expect better. This collection also lacks an in-depth introduction to the Romantic movement, a feature that a standard Penguin Classics or Oxford World's Classics edition would certainly have supplied.

Thus, while the contents of the book are enjoyable, these niggling design and editorial shortcomings detract slightly from the overall reading experience.

This is an anthology of romantic poems by Wordsworth, Coleridge, Blake, Byron, Shelley, and Keats.

This anthology put me in the Valentine’s Day spirit! Some of the poems were long and very old Englishy. I finished this book within a few hours- very quick read. Only 3/5 stars due to the old English. Some poems were five stars though. My favorites were: To Autumn (Keats), I wandered lonely as a cloud (Wordsworth), Music, when soft voices die (Shelley), Love’s Philosophy (Shelley), the flower that smiles today (Shelley), she walks in beauty (Byron), so we’lol go no more a-roving (Byron).

Note the actual title is: The Romantic Poets

This is counting towards 2023 Ouabc reading challenge prompt three word title.

This book was a collection of poems by Keats, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Shelley, Byron and Blake. The ones that left the biggest impressions on me were Byron (despite his real life story), Shelley, and Coleridge. The standout poem was definitely The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.

There were some very familiar poems to me in this collection and some I had never read before. I also liked how the editors included biographical information about each poet. Overall, an enjoyable reading experience and a collection I'm sure I will dip back into in the future.
