Lucas and Nate enjoyed eight steamy nights of forbidden romance last year at Hanukkah. Now after months of long-distance dating, they’re living in their own apartment in Greenwich Village and beginning a new life together. Lucas hates lying to Nate’s family about the true nature of their relationship, but being with Nate is worth it.

They revel in having a private place to explore their relationship — and every inch of each other — but Nate and Lucas soon discover that living together isn’t always perfect. When an unexpected betrayal shatters their tentative happiness, they struggle to find their way back together as the holidays approach once more. As their first magical nights together become a distant memory, can Lucas and Nate’s relationship survive the break of day?

Dear Lucas,

You make me GROUCHY.

I get it...you're young, still figuring stuff out, sad, lonely, have only had one boyfriend. But you're a putz. And a , and weak. I do not like you.

You're lucky Nate is forgiving and cares.

Urgh.

This book!

The ending was totally sweet and made me happy, but getting there was ROUGH. About a third of the way through the book, Lucas betrays Nate in the worst possible way. What follows is a and a rage inducing . It may have been a slice of relationship reality, but I found it incredibly tough to swallow.

Bottom line: I generally like Andrews' stories and characters, but this one felt a little cruel - to both her characters AND her readers. Considering how the first book in this series ended, this felt like a bait and switch. No bueno.

'Eight Nights' was the beginning of Lucas and Nate's story and I really enjoyed it. So much that upon discovering it's existence I immediately bought 'Daybreak' the follow-up story to 'Eight Nights'. Sadly while 'Eight Nights' got a happy 3.5 stars from me, 'Daybreak' is going on the 'read' shelf with a whopping 2 stars...barely.

So here's where things went wrong for me. Let's start with Nate's mom. I loved her in the first book. She was awesome. Sadly she went from awesome in book 1 to judgemental, self absorbed bitch in book 2. Swear to god aliens took over her body or something. But not to worry there was a magical Christmas cure at the end...nope sorry, not buying it.

Now on to Nate and Lucas. I think I'll start with Lucas, otherwise Nate won't make a lot of sense. Lucas turned into a freaking train wreck.

Now just a quick note on Lucas's friend Casey...

Last of all we have Nate. To me Nate's behaviour made no sense.

Even though the ending was one big happy Hanukkah miracle. I just couldn't buy it. So for me this was pretty much a fail and while I do still love 'Eight Nights' I'm kinda' wishing I had never seen the light of day.

This was an excellent follow up to the short novella Eight Nights by Keira Andrews. If Eight Nights was the idyllic beginning of Lucas and Nate's romance, then Daybreak is just as the title suggests - the relationship waking up in the harsh light of day and the boys given a hefty dose of reality.

Lucas and Nate are blisfully happy when they move into a small studio apartment together in New York City at the beginning of the school year. But as with any relationship, they run into some obstacles that challenge that relationship's strength and endurance. What follows is a a coming of age story that, in my opinion, very accurately portrays the struggles I would expect two gay boys of that age to experience.

Lucas is basically a piece of driftwood, being tossed about in the river. He rarely makes any real decisions or takes any action of his own, he lets life push him from place to place and decide his fate for him. In so doing he makes some mistakes.

Nate... well, I never really liked Nate. But he loves Lucas and generally treats him well so I was glad to watch them work through their troubles and come out the other side even stronger.

I really enjoyed this book but will issue a warning, for those of you who do not like to read about... certain indiscretions? This might not be the book for you.

It's impossible to review this book without spoilers. I guess I can say it was tremendously angst-filled and it touches on a topic that usually goes on my read-rage shelf. What I discovered, however, is that my feelings towards this topic changes based on the POV. This is the first time I've read a book with this topic that wasn't from the "victim's" POV. I have to admit, that it definitely skewed my perception of events. I wasn't raging about the situation, and for the first time I felt like maybe if there was enough begging, there could be forgiveness....? I dunno - I feel like my world view has been shaken to its foundation.

Too much pointless sex, and stupid character actions. I never bought Lucas being in love. He seemed like someone starved for a family, terrified of being alone, and having the desire for sluttiness. Boring and annoying.

Lucas and Nate enjoyed eight nights of forbidden romance at Hanukkah. Now they’re living together and reveling in the freedom. When painful betrayal shatters their happiness, can their relationship last in the light of day?
From Loose Id.

I really enjoyed reading Keria Andrews book, Love Match, which was also published by Loose Id. My tennis slash googles were firmly on! So, was looking forward to reading this new one. It’s about two young men at the beginning of their relationship and dealing with the issues of coming out, jealousy and learning to live together. The first book about Lucas and Nate is a short story so it’s nice to see a full length follow up.

For the most part I enjoyed the book, the romance was sweet and there was plenty of drama and angst. I think the portrayal of these boys rang true for me as they’re both just so young and bound to screw it up at some point. This did not make the betrayal any less heartbreaking, even if it fit within the context of the story. It didn’t make make me like it. If there is one thing in a romance that gets my goat it’s infidelity, it’s a thing I have.

Keira Andrews does some clever writing in the way she makes the reader feel for her characters. Initially I had a great deal of sympathy and understanding for Lucas. Because she very slowly reveals who Nate is and how he feels, I think it’s a little more compelling as you came to fully understand why he is the way he is and the reasons behind his actions. This made for some interesting reading, however I could not get away from the fact that these guys are young and I wondered if the romance would last in the long run. Cynic much? A contemporary romance with such young characters is definitely a difficult idea and while I am all about the hearts and bunnies, maybe there is too much of a pragmatist in me to imagine they’ll live their happily ever after. I think I’m ok with that though, I don’t think every relationship has to end with that ride off into the sunset on a glittery pony.

I cannot say I enjoyed it as much as I did Love Match, but considering the very difficult nature of this premise I think it was well written and it was nice to see the exploration of a relationship that was already in progress. I’ll be interested to see what she put out next, as I do enjoy her writing.

This sequel to Eight Nights, for me, suffers from the amount of sex scenes. I keep lowering the level of my liking it every time Lucas and Nate smexxing. In fact, they seem to have sex everytime they finish talking. It has never been (and will NEVER be) the kind of story I enjoy. So don't ask me whether the sex scenes are hot or not, I just skip through it.

Luckily, the story still has a story to be told outside the sex. Still written from Lucas's perspective, it takes the timeline about 8 months after their his and Nate's hookup in previous Hanukah. Now, Lucas is moving in with Nate and enrolls to NYU. But Lucas still has insecurities that results in him making the mistake ... yes people, . I was warned by a couple of reviews, so I was prepared.

From the first book, I realize that Lucas is less seasoned than Nate. Moving a lot with his family in his childhood makes him feel alone most of the time. He also loses his family, and he doesn't have enough friends ... so whenever gorgeous and popular people want to be friend with him, he's bewildered and confused. Nate has been the first person that gives Lucas the attention, and by being so, Nate has been Lucas's center of the universe. So he is worried if he loses that. Yep. Insecure.

It helps that the story is written from Lucas's perspective. He acknowledges his lack of judgment. He knows he made a mistake and he is very, very sorry about that. I always think that when there's enough begging, and there's true love, forgiveness could be given.

So the story is more engangingly emotional --- and I could've given it higher rating if not for ALL the sex!!!

This is the sequel to Eight Nights wherein Lucas and Nate enjoyed eight steamy nights of forbidden romance last year at Hanukkah. After enduring months of long-distance dating, they’re living in a tiny apartment in Greenwich Village and beginning a new life together. As they adjust to the realities of living together - both good and bad - an unexpected and TOTALLY DEVASTATING betrayal shatters their tentative happiness. Daybreak details Lucas and Nate's struggle to find their way back together.

Wow. This book was angst ridden, frustrating, and agonizing by turns. I can't say much without spoilers but suffice it to say I usually shy away from books that involve this issue. It was different reading it from Lucas's POV. I didn't think I could deal and seriously considered DNF'ing around 40%. I can honestly say I'm glad I didn't. It would be disingenuous for me to say that I loved both MCs because I wanted to pummel Lucas for most of the book. He was so weak minded that I had a hard time empathizing with him at all. Even after . Nate, on the other hand, I LOVED. I really enjoyed his family too. Mrs. Kramer's cold reaction to Nate's (and Lucas's, for that matter) coming out was disappointing but she ultimately redeemed herself. I love reading about big family dynamics, especially around the holidays, and this book did not disappoint.

Bottom line: an angst-ridden Hanukkah/Christmas tale about love and forgiveness.

The sequel to 8 nights...I'm wishing I would have stopped at the first night instead of losing the last few hours of my life. Lucas was TSTL and Nate was overly dramatic.

I'll probably not read any more by this author if these two stories are indicative of her writing.

I am beginning to think that Keira Andrews could write *anything* and I would love it. Something about her stories and her style of writing draws me in every. single. time. I fell totally in love with Nate and Lucas. And Nate's family too. For most of the story anyway. There was a little while when I wasn't very happy with Nate's mom, but she redeemed herself in the end.

I think Keira Andrews' writing has come a long way since this series was written. Her newer works are perfection in my eyes, but this story was very enjoyable and I'm glad I read it :)

Sequel to Eight Nights.

I enjoyed getting to see Lucas and Nate living together, starting their own life and all, but sadly things never go smooth, do they? *sigh*

Ah, sometimes Lucas was really slap-worthy. So frustrating...!

Nate's dad surprised me by being super amazingly awesome.

Super disappointed with this book. I fell head over heels for Andrews' Amish trilogy and was looking forward to reading more of her backlist.

The major conflict between the characters isn't really ever discussed and resolved. One day they are broken up and barely even speaking and the next they are back together. And the reason for their breakup? You don't just get over it one day. That should be a slow build towards resolution.

Also, the relationship seems very off balance. Lucas doesn't have many friends outside of their relationship and I think that's part of the reason he falls so hard so fast. Plus he was a virgin and very inexperienced. And with no family. I think he fell in love with the idea of a forever with Nate since it offered him so much of what he was missing in his life. His actions once they break up cement this theory in my mind.

And poor Nate. Besides sex I'm not sure what he's gaining from this relationship. He gives and gives and gives and gives and doesn't seem to receive much in return. (Besides heartache and half-truths)

While I really liked this couple in the novella that started the series, I found them un-compelling and lackluster here.

I gave it one star because

1. One of the MCs was so insecure that he ended up cheating on the other MC.

2. And his reason for cheating was so pathetic. It was not because of some misunderstanding or for revenge or retaliation or any of those things. No. He cheated simply because the other guy (stranger) found him hot!! WTH!!

3. So now, he got caught and was sorry for what he had done. Only theoretically. Because next thing you know, he was banging/dating his so-called "friend" and dallying with strangers in public toilet...ew..

4. What was his excuse? "He didn't want to be alone"!!! ...such a wimp!

5. And what did the other MC do? He took the cheating bastard back...argghhh...

6. I am 100% sure, this book is not a romance, and was written just to torture readers.

This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Main Characters:
Lucas has grown up a bit since Eight Nights, transferring to NYU and finding a studio apartment to share with Nate. He does, however, still have a lot of growing up left to do, and a series of his bad decisions drive much of the story. It's interesting to see him growing into his possibilities.

Nate, on the other hand, still seems stuck where Eight Nights left him; despite spending the summer in Europe with his parents, he's no closer to telling them of either his orientation or his change in major. He's developed a jealous streak that is actually rather charming (most of the time), but he's also gotten prickly to the point that I sometimes found myself wondering what Lucas saw in him.

Chemistry:
Although the story begins with their living together, the sense that they didn't know each other was pervasive. They had sex--plenty of sex--and got on quite well in that aspect, but found themselves butting heads in other aspects of their lives. As events played out and they were separated, I wondered if it would even be for the best for them to get back together. That being said, they're still an attractive couple, just a very immature one, both with plenty of room left to find themselves.

Secondary Characters:
There is a large supporting cast, though they rotate through fairly quickly so that the numbers are never overwhelming. Some drove me nuts--I wish Casey hadn't played out the way he did--but others were surprisingly enjoyable; I particularly enjoyed the scenes with Nate's father or Sam. The secondary characters were breathed with just enough life to make them interesting without dragging the focus away from where it belonged, with Lucas and Nate.

Story:
As I'd mentioned, a large force in the story is Lucas's bad decisions, though they're not the only key points. Although some of the critical events, whether through Lucas's actions or an outside influence, came as a surprise, none of them struck me as gratuitous. My biggest complaint is the pat ending, when a particular player completely reverses a stance they'd taken regarding Lucas and Nate just in time for family sap; it seemed a little forced, and I'd rather have seen a more natural progression to resolution, rather than a switch being flipped.

Writing:
I enjoyed the writing in this book rather more than that of Eight Nights, though that may be simply because the author had rather more time to hit their stride. The balance of showing and telling was still excellent, and the dialogue was strong.

Overall:
Interesting (if sometimes frustrating) characters and a well-crafted story make this an easy book to like. Although the ending was a bit of a letdown, the rest of the story was charming enough to bear up through the stumble. I'm only sorry that we don't get to find out more about how Lucas and Nate grow into themselves.

I first met Lucas and Nate in a short story released under Christmas time last year. It was a nice story, but as always when the two characters are so nice, I regretted the fact that it was so short. Now the author writes a full lenght novel for them and it's again very nice.

Lucas is a young college student; since he was a teen he was always a lonely kid, with a very special relationship with his father, his only relative alive. But soon before he started college, his father passed away from cancer, leaving Lucas without any financial worries, but plenty alone. It was not easier for Lucas that first Christmas alone, and so he let the mother of his roommate drags him back home with them where he met her son Nate. Now let me say that Nate is the classical spoiled son of a wealthy family; he is gay but he has no courage to come out with his family and prefers to play the role of the brooding son, the dark one in opposite to his outspoken and sunny big brother. But outside his family home, Nate is not an angel, and, if I remember well, he seduced Lucas.

In this new book, Lucas and Nate decide to live together in the Village, Nate still pretending with his family that he will only share an apartment with Lucas since it's nearer to College. Living together at first seems paradise, but probably both Lucas than Nate have rushed things: Lucas is at his first sexual experience, and he is insecure and still tentative; plus he still believes to be nothing special, and he sees Nate with starry eyes, all the world turns around his lover, and when they are not together, Lucas feels lost. On the other hand, Nate probably believes that Lucas is just like him, so sure and strong, even if only outside his family home; he doesn't feel necessary to woo and reassure Lucas, since he really doesn't see any reason why Lucas hasn't to be a strong and independent man like him...

A lot of unspoken words between them lead Lucas to make a very big mistake, but I really haven't the heart to blame him in total; sure Nate wasn't cheating him physically, but in a way he was cheating the trust Lucas had in him. From his spoiled brat perspective, Nate didn't see that Lucas needed something more, not only sex and fun, but also the comfort and the reassurance of a family, the certainty that he has someone to come home to.

I like the story, maybe it has a bit too much of Christmas feeling in it (better Hanukkah), with a final scene that could be well into an Hollywood movie with James Stewart, but then, if every Christmas we sees that movies, there will be a reason, will not?

In this sequel to Eight Nights, we find out that the course of true lover never does run smoothly. Lucas and Nate are living together in New York after having been apart for the summer while Nate has traveled in Europe with his family. They have their own apartment and are at NYU - Nate having changed to study photography from his pre-law studies and Lucas still undecided about what he wants to do with his life. Then Lucas makes a mistake. He is definitely insecure and really vulnerable and that leads to his downfall. Nate leaves and Lucas is all alone. Really all alone. He has only made one friend - who frankly is just waiting to put the moves on him - and he has no idea what to do with himself. I felt really sad when Lucas and Nate were apart - they obviously loved each other, but some things can't just be swept under the rug. Also being young guys and in their first real relationship, they didn't seem to know how to talk about things very well - which is pretty typical. I'm not going to say anything else about the story because it's impossible to not get spoilery. One of the things I really liked about the story was the sort of love affair with NY that Lucas seems to be having. I thought that really added to the story. I also really liked Lucas and Nate again in this story. I cannot imagine that Lucas is not an absolute mess being so alone in the world. I also liked cousin Rachel and Mr. Kramer a lot in this one! If you don't mind a bit of angst, this is a satisfying read.

In this sequel to Eight Nights, Lucas has transferred to NYU and is now sharing an apartment with his secret boyfriend, Nate. Although they have a pretty good relationship, Lucas' insecurities and feelings of unworthiness push him to make a devastating mistake. He struggles to gain forgiveness from Nate, but the stubborn photographer will not give it easily.

I liked this story for the most part. There was a good amount of romance and angst, but neither went overboard. The one issue I did have was the high number of sex scenes. Normally these scenes don't bother me (obviously), but it seemed like I couldn't go two pages without Lucas and Nate engaging in some sort of sexual act . They became repetitive after a while and I found myself skimming over them.

Even though it was Lucas' actions that caused the fallout between the two men, I couldn't help but feel bad for him. His insecurities, which I believe Nate fed into a bit, and feelings of abandonment really got the best of him. Occasionally I found Nate really unlikeable, but since the story is mostly from Lucas' POV, that's bound to happen even though I think Nate's unlikeability was a mixture of Lucas' bias and Nate just being hard-headed and silly.

Lucus... grow a freakin' set of balls!!! Seriously... he drove me crazy with his... OH, I messed up... but here let me make another dumbass decision and make things even worse... grrrr!!!

OK... there I feel all better now! LOL

This was a great follow-up to Lucus and Nate's love story! It had its ups and downs, but overall it gave me the details and ending that I needed! Family members have a way of surprising us sometimes when they come face to face with an issue that they never expect to have to deal with... and if we are lucky, and unfortunately, many aren't... they show the love and support that is needed or at least slowly come to the realization that even though they may never understand the issue, acceptance and love are all that most of us are looking for!

I have a sneaky suspicion that I am going to like anything that Ms. Andrews writes and look forward to many more fine stories from her in the future!!!

Absolutely awesome finish to Eight Nights. K.Andrews is fast becoming an auto buy for me. This book had it all - stong writing, great sexy times, wonderfully told tale that continues the relationship between Nate and Lucas. While I could not believe what Lucas did and yelled at my Kindle, noooooo! I totally understood. He's young, inexperienced sexually, never had a relationship, never really had friends. He had to find himself. Handled so well. And the touch of kink! Whoa, what a nice touch that came out of nowhere. The coming out to the family deftly done. The touch of faith. I just wept because this was so good.

Good deal of angst in this, and I was pretty bummed during parts of it, but I thoroughly enjoyed it, sadness and all.

I found the issues the guys faced to be pretty realistic for a couple of college kids. Were some of Lucas's actions frustrating? Yup. But I think they easily could have happened, and that's the kind of frustrating I'm happy to deal with. And while some of the stuff that happened pained me, I think it was good, too, because it gave Lucas a bit of a broader range of experience. Perspective always helps.

Very happy I stumbled on this today. Good Sunday read, even with the emotional hangover.

I hadn't read the first book, but I found no difficulty following the plot. It's quite an enjoyable story, but there was a little too much sex for me. It's understandable, these guys were in their early twenties, and this was the first time they lived together, so high libido is not out of question. It's just totally a matter of taste for me. Actually, I forgave a lot of these two characters stupidity because of their age in the story. At that age, you make a lot of mistakes and learn from them.

It's been so long since I've read this I can't remember much except to say that I did enjoy reading the book. There were moments that I didn't like, but it had nothing to do with the writing, just the characters actions which were more emotional angst on my part. It was good/ok, I remember that.
