Cass Clereaux likes her job. It’s simple—steal the magic, don’t get killed. FireSouls like her are perfect for magic treasure hunting. Their dragon soul helps them find treasure, their wicked powers help them steal it. But there’s a big freaking downside—FireSouls are hunted. If either of the magical governments figures out what she is, she can kiss her life goodbye.

When the Alpha Council comes to her with a special job, it’s a no-brainer to turn it down, no matter how much money they’re offering. Shifters who can sniff out her weird magic are the last supernaturals she needs to be around. Worse? They have a history of hunting FireSouls. But when Cass learns that a little girl’s life is at stake and Cass is her last hope, she doesn’t have a choice.

With her sisters and Aidan Merrick at her back, she’s got a chance at saving the girl and keeping her deadly secret—until she learns there’s far more to this kidnapping than meets the eye. It’s far too similar to what happened to her as a child, and everything new that she learns scares her even more.

Before becoming a writer, Linsey was an archaeologist who studied shipwrecks in all kinds of water, from the tropics to muddy rivers (and she has a distinct preference for one over the other). After a decade of tromping around in search of old bits of stuff, she settled down to start penning her own adventure novels and is freaking delighted that people seem to like them. Since life is better with a little (or a lot of) magic, she writes urban fantasy and paranormal romance.

Mirror Mage is book two in the Dragon's Gift: The Huntress by Linsey Hall.

This series has potential with the world and overall arc being appealing, but unfortunately the characters and world-building are underdeveloped and lacking.

In the Dragon's Gift: The Huntress series we get a little magic, a dash of paranormal with a dose of archeology and history. Mirror Mage takes place just after the first book, Ancient Magic.

Cass is a FireSoul, (what ever that means), masquerading as a Mirror Mage and Huntress. She's never used her FireSoul magic before and she does not trust it, so she’s struggling with her powers. Beside that she’s got a fear of being found out by the Order of Magica and/or the shifter Alpha Counsel, because for some reason they don’t like FireSouls. We still don’t know much of anything about the FireSoul’s, why they are so feared, hunted, etc… I wish the author would give us more information. Cass is also still being hunted by the Monster from her past. The author does give us a glimpse into Cass’s past; before her and her sisters woke up at fifteen in the middle of nowhere. That was intriguing information.

The story is fast-paced and moves along. Cass and Aidan go up against some nasty shifters and Magica while trying to find what the Alpha Counsel has lost. The author also gives us a bit of Aiden’s past and why he avoids and is not on the shifter Alpha Counsel.

The romance that is blooming. Cass and Aidan are attracted to each other. It’s a slow blooming romance, but also a little blasé.

Mirror Mage was just ok. I’m not sure if I’m going to continue on. I might when I have Kindle Unlimited I just don’t know. I keep hoping for the books to improve and develop more, but we still have the same flat characters, lack of world building, and a romance that is eh. I'm just not won over yet.

Why am I still reading this series, you ask?
Well, with gems like this:
“The Monster from my past hunted me. I didn’t know his name, but I’d learned a week ago that he was still seeking me and my deirfiúr. My deirfiúr, Del and Nix, were my sisters by choice. If he caught me, I could kiss my life goodbye. And the lives of my deirfiúr.”
How can I resist being swept away by such charming writing? 😑
Snarky opinion aside, I really hoped the series would get better as it progressed...even a little bit....but nope, same flat characters, same lack of world building, same ridiculous plot design, same cringeworthy romance...am I curious enough to continue reading through this? Not feeling particularly masochist lately so I’m just gonna delete the whole author’s repertoire from my iPad and move on....life is too short to waste time on crappy books.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series Ancient Magic so was overjoyed when the author contacted me asking if I wanted to read the next book, er yes please! So I sat down and immersed myself yet again in this world she has created. It's a world were magic folk live in plain sight but the humans have no idea who they sometimes deal with and in the last book we met Cass and her two'sisters'. They are reviled FireSouls, capable of absorbing powers at the point of death and in this story we learn just what happens when a FireSoul is discovered.
Hey its not all doom and gloom though as Cass is slowly coming around to the idea that she can trust Aidan the ultimate shifter. He's just too yummy for words. Brave, caring, considerate and like catnip for Cass! He is starting to understand the Monster that haunts the past of Cass and her deirfiur and happily will do all he can to protect Cass. What really sets him apart is his belief that Cass should use her own magic and I really like that he wants her to progress.
I will say as little as possible about the story as its a thrill ride from start to finish. These girls might live in Oregon but it's a blast as they travel from Mayan temples to castles in Scotland and then there's all the glory of a magical ruin in Turkey! Expect the unexpected and enjoy the ride because it's thundering along and dragging this reader with it! If I had just one criticism it would be the use of the word deirfiur as it just kept cropping up repeatedly but that's a minor thing. I loved this story and can't wait to learn what happens next but there's a tiny part of me wondering if it somehow connects to Aidan and his powers in some way but whatever is in store I'm really looking forward to it.

This series has potential. The world & overall series arc is what's interesting. Unfortunately, the characters & world are underdeveloped.

The world lacks any depth. We're told the basics of how it works in book 1, then are left to flounder. Magic doesn't seem to have any rules or regulations pass incarceration if you're a certain type of magical breed (which the h happens to be).

The characters seem shallow. The h makes asinine decisions. She's got the self preservation of a fish. The h has a tragic pass that personally involves the villain. This makes her actions/lack of self preservation all the more illogical. She's TSTL & I find I'm as uninterested in her survival as her actions & decisions make her seem she is.
The H is entirely without personal flaws. Perfection is boring even if said perfection had a distinctly sad childhood.
The romantic relationship lacks any buildup or chemistry.

The plot is poorly executed & in the end I just don't care. The writing style is all tell & no show. The only positive about this series is the fact it's free on KU.

I wouldn't recommend the series. I don't think I'll be following this series regardless of price.

I rate this book a tragically weak 2 stars.

“Keep it in mind, Mathias. There’s nothing I wouldn’t do to protect her.”
Time felt like it slowed. I knew he cared for me. But this was really serious.

I'm so glad I was one of those people, who was chosen to read the ARC of this book!!!
I loved it!! It was everything, I was not expecting anything lest. First of all I love everything about this book, starting from the cover. The designer of this series, does an amazing job, it is really catchy!

This book was so interesting that I didn't putt down for a second, I finished it within a day, bringing it everywhere with me!
The most important thing is that, characters were not twisted to something else, they have evolved so much. The other thing is that while it is about a strong girl, book showed the difference between bravery and foolishness, and how she stepped in and back when she knew that it was just stupid to act alone, or be the main character, or decline your friends help.
BUT the MAIN reason is, that she finally let him in!!! I mean they were so cuuuute!!! And I was like yes yes yes!!! What I love about Aidan is that he is really perfect, he is overprotective, but he respects her, and never says when she wants to do something dangerous, and instead stands by her!

The story itself was perfect, it had healthy amount action, friendship, loss, win, love, tension, horror (sometimes it got scary lol). And I really liked the fact that siblings got involved as well!!!

For a second I thought "No, is this the end? Is it going to end like this", and then and I was like "Yeah, there is going to be a third book!". Looking forward to the next book!! I hope I'll be in ARC list again/fingers crossed/

I received this audiobook for free for my honest review.

Second novels in a series are usually problematic. Not Mirror Mage!
I already shared how much I enjoyed Ancient Magic, and now I've had the chance to devour the next book too! What a great reading month it has been!

The story line gets more complex; the situation far more dangerous. Cass is a badass, and so are her friends and sisters and oh let's not forget the hottie Scot that has decided to be her protector! In Mirror Mage, Cass gets herself into some situations where her secrets are exposed, and her future is uncertain. But she goes into these situations willingly, to protect a young girl - because she is that honorable and brave. She won't let someone else suffer if she can do something about it.

But we also see the burden of Cass using her magic start to emerge as the fire inside her starts to take control. This can get very dangerous for her very quickly, as people who are protecting and keeping her secret may find out. Especially since we started seeing the threads of other key players starting to believe FireSouls may not be inherently evil. But what I loved most is the dedication and camaraderie between Cass and her sisters, as well as their two best friends and Aidan. These friends have her back, and will not turn away just because they find out who she is. Everyone should have friends like this!

This book is also a fun trip through ancient ruins and has more of that Indiana Jones and Lara Croft Tomb Raider feel that I loved from the first book. It helps that the author herself is an archeologist and that passion goes into her books. The audio narration was also very enjoyable and pleasant. I'm definitely a fan of this series, and will be adding the rest of the author's books to my wishlist.

Cass is in for it again. Hunted by the Monster from her past, her new job helping the shifters may not end up unrelated. And with Aidan as her tag along it will be even harder to control her magic as well as her libido. In this FireSoul's new chapter, will she save the day or end up back in a cage?

Cass struggles to accept her powers as a FireSoul and use them in every day life. As well as her growing attraction to Aidan, the sexy shifter who also happens to be a millionaire! I love the way Hall captures Cass's insecurities and yet lets us know that she is no pushover. We get to see deeper into what happened to Cass and her sisters before they woke up at fifteen with no idea who they are and no memory of their past.

Now Aidan, sweet delicious melt in your mouth, Aidan. We all knew you had a torrid past (who doesn't?) and the knowledge now of what you had to deal with makes us love you even more! Cass is a stronger woman than I ever could be, I would have jumped your bones the moment you stepped on my doorstep back in Book 1!

Like the first book Ancient Magic, this book is filled with magic, awesome fight scenes, witty comebacks, and heated make-out scenes. I was dragged in from page one and couldn't put it down.

A fiery five bunnies for the sequel to Ancient Magic!

There comes a time when you have to choose between turning the page and closing the book.

This was a DNF after 11%
Not only was the whole first book summarized and all info repeatedly given AGAIN in the first 11% but also the writing style didn't improve a bit.
To write is an art and a gift. There is a reason why i am a reader and not a writer. But here i am not sure if it was meant to be a children's book or a school assignment.
I get that you give information or summaries a first book in a series, but please integrate it in the plot, the dialogues and don't let the flat heroine play a broken record between every spoken word. There are several great authors out there, where one can learn from how to slip information in a running story. Without interrupting the plot nor the dialogues.

God and that awful characters. Flat, childish, no personality or depths. Just plain boring and annoying.

The vocabulary was limited.

My most spoken words during this book were:
" you said that already"
"Yes, we know that"
"Grow up"
"Teenager hormones are loose"
"I know, you mentioned that a hundred times before"
"Please stop thinking Cass, you ruin the ongoing story "
"Please not again"

Reflective

This is the second installment in the dragons gift series, the series follows the life of Cass nix and del, they are firesouls, the most feared supernatural kind going. If the alpha council found out they are fire souls they will be locked up in prison for the rest of their life's.
Cass is the huntress of the three sisters, she is a good fighter and likes to use obsidian daggers to fight. Due to this she doesn't use her magic. However Aidan knows they are firesouls and is trying to help cass learn to use her magic. In this installment her magic may be the key.
During this job cass, nix and Del come extremely close to being caught as they have to take on a job with the alpha council. Can they keep their secret hidden?
This series seems to be extremely fast paced it has magic romance and suspense. I have loved every minute of it.
My least favourite character is the monster, I am still trying to figure out who he is.
My favourite character is Aidan, this is because you can tell how much he cares about Cass just in the way he acts around her.
I am looking forward to diving into book 3

It is an okay book... I really like the storyline, but I the little things are adding up and frustrating me. Like how they enter a dungeon at dawn and then with barely any time passed it is minutes from midday. Time didn't work out! And putting down her efforts with weapons?? I don't understand. So things like that, piled up enough that towards the end I was lightly skimming (reading all the dialogue and a few sentences of the rest of the paragraphs).
Such an interesting world, but what I mention above and the... stilted dialogue at times irked me.

And yet, I wouldn't tell someone not to read this. I might not want to continue, but if someone told me it would get better I could totally force myself to keep going. So... 3 stars. Not bad, entertaining with an intriguing plot, just... falls a bit flat.

I honestly think the only reason I finished this book is bc I own the box set and I have no clue what else to listen to. It’s just fine. I’ve read some from this author in the past and enjoyed it but this series just lags. We get detailed repeated information from the last book. It seems very little character development. Yes she finally told people but there actions are always the same. She does stupid things but ends up justifying them: like there are so so many better ways of going about things but to put our FMC in THE MOST amount of danger let’s chose this stupid idea and twist it into and altruistic act instead of what it is- stupidity.

Mirror Mage Dragons Gift the Huntress Book 2

Linsey hall

Take a little magic stir briskly add a big dose of archeology and history, throw in some Paranormal, add a touch of Fantasy for spice and you have the basis for Linsey Hall’s Dragons Gift Series. Oh and add some hunky, big, tall, good looking males to go with some sweet, sexy, curvy, females and you have the Romantic side. Magnifique!

Set just after the first book, Ancient Magic ends Cass and Aidan are trying to get away from a bunch of Demon jaguars. She is supposed to be practicing and training her magic. You see Cass is a FireSoul masquerading as a Mirror Mage and Huntress. But she can’t control her magic so she never learned to use it. To trust it. But she will need it to be able to stay away from the Monster. This horrifically strong magic user she has nightmares about. Or are they dreams dipped in reality? She also has this fear of being found out by the Order of Magica or the shifter Alpha Counsel. They don’t take kindly to FireSouls, in fact very few do take kindly to FireSouls! Throw in the derfiúr, her sisters, Nix, one FireSoul who is also a Protector, and Del another FireSoul who is a Demon hunter and Seeker, they made a good team! Enter Aidan, the Origin, a big hunky part Elemental Mage, All Shifter…..who has taken a liking to Cass. Aidan has secrets of his own…..yet Cass is drawn to him. Aidan has never shown her a reason to be afraid of him and Cass is concerned, both for him and about him.

Things are just groovy till the Alpha Counsel comes calling to ask Cass for help in finding something that has been stolen from them. Cass is terrified that the derfiúr secret was out! The book goes on with Aidan and Cass going up against some nasty shifters and Magica while trying to find what the Alpha Counsel has lost. Danger lurks around every turn. Who is behind the theft and where are they keeping it? Linsey sheds more light into the background of the characters set forth in the first book, Ancient Magic. And some who were not so clear in the first book are seen more clearly in the second. Just how bad this Monster guy is…….well you need to read the book for yourself!

I really enjoyed the Mythean Arcana, and this series has just as much packed into it! The background, storyline, and universe is complex, very deep and yet readable. You can tell it will yield some interesting stories yet to come. This is a book you can read again and see something different pop out. So pick up a copy, get a comfy chair, drink and settle in!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Mirror Mage picks up a week after the end of Ancient Magic inside a tomb in an Indiana Jones style raid. Cass and Aiden are using this raid for Cass to practice her magic on the demons that are guarding the tomb; for those of us that love Indiana Jones you’ll certainly like how Mirror Mages kicks off! When Aiden and Cass return to Magic Bend after their raid our story really gets going. While the gang kicks back at P&P Mathias shows up to offer them a job, one that will put their secret in jeopardy and certainly their lives.

Mirror Mage is pretty action packed and fast paced. I read most of it in one go but absolutely had to sleep so I finished the last quarter the next day. The series is kind of like Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider put together but with magic and it’s awesome.

We have an ultimate evil bad guy that is slowly being revealed in the background and the more you learn about him the more you hope someone kills him; he is a real nasty piece of work. There is no question that he’s evil and the author portrays this wonderfully.

This is a character driven story and we did not have any wordy descriptions of scenery bogging down the tale. A couple of issues I did have are with Aiden and Cass’s relationship and with Mathias. The love interest between Aiden and Cass I think still needs some work. Since Aiden already knows the most dangerous secret and is involved with keeping it I’d like to see their relationship develop more, it still seems a little stunted to me. It’s obvious they make a great team so I think the dialog needs to catch up to that and meld them together a little better. I still feel like don’t know why Aiden is so into her, I want him to be but I feel like there is a bit missing. The last issue I had was since Mathias seems to hate Firesouls it felt like he gave in a little too easily when he figures things out; I think that needs more fleshing out.

So far the Dragon's Gift: The Huntress series has been very entertaining and enjoyable so I plan to continue on with the series. I’ve found that Grammar wise there are no glaring problems and the story flowed well for me. The violence is not overly graphic and so far there are no sex scenes but I’d say that most of the topic matter puts us in the New Adult category more than the YA but a mature YA teen probably would also enjoy this story.

I received a free advance digital copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank You so much Linsey!!!!

The Mirror Mage, the second installment in Dragon's gift: The Huntress series, has not yet been officially released. The book is expected to be published this coming May 4, 2016. And because of this, I will avoid any major spoilers in this review, which is a very hard task for me because this series has easily wormed its way into my favorite books for 2016.

I am a huge, huge sucker for well-developed characters. And Linsey certainly delivered. That is why I want to commend Linsey for the presence of strong female characters in this novel. The heroine’s friends all have wonderful, distinct personalities, and they are charming in their own way. Actually, I admire how the author was able to develop three-dimensional characters extremely well. There is definitely a balance of friendship (like how we will always have your back kind of friendship), romance and action in this sequel. And I don't want to miss out Aidan. I love Aidan, and I can't help but swoon in every minute he and Cass spends time together, seriously, if you’ve already read the book and in need of someone to squeal with, I’m your girl. Hahaha.

The pace and the plot was also very engaging. Definitely a page turner mind you. There are no dull moments, In fact, I felt like the book was starting to unravel more secrets from the past. And I am starting to question why the main Antagonist wanted the Firesouls. Argh! It was still a mystery after this book. But I guess that is what makes this series interesting and good. It makes you crave and think of lots of possibilities and what ifs. In this book, Linsey had started to let us see how the Firesouls are treated in the world of Magical people and that starts with The Alpha Council.

Please Linsey give me the 3rd book now. My emotions are frenzied mess right now. I really want the third book now. :(

Good and Evil, magic and mundane, monsters and heroes…and a whole lot more can be found in this second book of the Dragon’s Gift series.

FireSoul Cass and Aidan “The Origin” are the main stars in this book. They met in book one and there was definite attraction between the two of them that carries over into this story. Good friends Connor and Claire appear from time to time and are told a secret by Cass and her deirfiúr, Nix and Del. A few new characters appear and may have parts in future books of the series.

Cass is approached by the Alpha Council and asked to find the Heartstone and the Heart. She is leery of most magic types since FireSouls are considered persona non grata and put in prison if ever exposed. Still, her inner self leans toward doing good and saving a child’s life is something she cannot turn her back on so she accepts the challenge. This is not an easy task and life threatening at some points.

I liked the idea of:
* dragons coveting and hoarding treasure – and with a bit of the heart of a dragon in FireSouls they do covet.
* that our true natures may come through whether we want them to or not,
* that good can overcome evil.
* that a relationship can grow healthily through sharing and caring and working together.
* that friends will stand by us even when we think there is something so big in our lives that if shared it will turn them away.

This book had a lot of undertones to take in and the story was a page turner. I look forward to reading more in this series and would like to thank the author for the copy to read and review.

Mirror Mage picks up not long after the end of Ancient Magic and from page one we are off and running with the characters. There is a lot that happens in this book and only served to whet my appetite into wanting more. We get a glimpse into how the Alpha Council, one of the main governing bodies in their world, operates, shown the reason why Cass and her sisters are so adamant about keeping the fact that they are FireSouls underwraps. And get a little glimpse into the girls pasts as Cass’s memories start to return. Added on to all of that we experience Cass’s struggle to control her magic as well as her attraction to Aiden as secrets and past hurts are revealed.

As with all of Ms. Hall’s books, this one hooked me from the first page and kept me turning the pages to see what would happen next. The twists and turns were done well as are the action sequences, and I like the pace at which the overall storyline is moving. In Ancient Magic I noted that I wished we’d been able to spend more quality time with the sisters together so we could get to know them and their personalities a little more. and in Mirror Mage we get that, as well as a lot more time with Aiden, who I really like but still wonder why he is doing what he is doing, but I guess I’ll just have to be patient and cross my toes that more is revealed in the next book.

This is another one of those books you might enjoy without reading the first book in the series but I seriously doubt it. Too much background is in that first book so if you have not read it stop and go get it before you even think about reading this book.

Cass and Aidan make a great couple, throw in some really great secondary characters who are fleshed out pretty well so they don’t seem like cardboard cutouts and you have a great story.

This story is a mixture of several plots with the same overarching plot we had in book 1 as far as the “big bad thing” that we know very little about. This time though there is another child involved and that sets the beginning for this story which is done superbly with some twists you never see coming.

Bottom Line: A great story, you need to read book 1 Ancient Magic first, this is still a cross between YA and New Adult which seems to mean we have very little sexual, almost no profanity but a necessary amount of violence that is required to actually have a great story like this so I give it 4 Stars and can’t wait for the next book, this is an addicting series.

Enjoyable

This one was on the short side, but we got to learn more about Aiden's past and how he grew up. I like that they are getting to know each other slowly and learning to trust each other. I'm glad that even though you have three characters each book doesn't change the main character. I don't know if I would enjoy a main character POV change. I know a series that has three sisters and book 1 would be the oldest sister, book 2 the middle and 3 the youngest then book 4 it starts over in the same order... And I hated book 2 & 3 and have been too annoyed to start 4 bc I could finish 3. Hopefully, it this series we can avoid that. Cass is a great main character and watching her develop and learn is enjoyable.

The plot thickens as Cass discovers that the Monster is behind the recent kidnapping of a 10 year ol shifter child. Aiden is now training her every chance he gets. The close proximity is stirring up feelings that Cass feels maybe too dangerous to let out. But she can't seem to deny them anymore. Even though their secret may be revealed, Del and Nix are convinced that Aiden can be trusted. Claire, Connor and the leonine Mathais play major roles in this book too. I love the way the story is expanding and taking shape. Looking forward to book 3. I hope I don't have to wait too long.

this book reminded me of the quote: 'easy reading, hard writing. hard reading, easy writing.' and this book was definitely easy writing. it was like the author was too lazy to even think of a plot and character that was not CLICHE (one word to describe this book).

Recap:

Cass and Aidan were in the middle of a jungle in Peru, raiding another temple and being chased by jaguar demon in order to practice Cass's magic. they swiftly retrieved the artifact, returned to ancient magic, eat with friends, when Mathias, the lion shifter, Mordaca lover came, saying Cass was needed by the Alpha council to find something.

at first, she wanted to refuse, but the temptation of 1 million dollar for just a meeting was too hard to refuse, and a million more after a job? :) too good to be true (but no, her real driver was 'there was life in danger', classic hero wannabe). so she went to Scotland, accompanied by Aidan, to the Council of Alpha's stronghold. turned out, they lost an item called Heartstone that protect and hide their stronghold and and heart of Glencarrough, a child that kept it alive. Angus, the kid's father went mad with grief and accused Cass for allying with the bad guy and said her magic smelled weird before he was kicked out. this made the council more suspicious of her.

Cass' dragons sense brought her to a Dawn Temple, near the stronghold but it was almost dark and the temple wouldn't open until dawn. so they spent the night in Aidan's childhood home near there, Cass had some nightmare about being prisoned and almost collared, made out some with Aidan, changed her mind and tried to practice shifting, and fainted.

the next day, they came to the Dawn Temple again, managed to get it and was attacked by another shadow demon. after they found the kidnapper, two wolf shifter, they got into a brief fight before the shifter took the Heartstone and ran away. At least they got the kid, Amara. Unfortunately, she was wearing the slave collar.

they were supposed to be trapped there until the next Dawn but Cass figured they would leave if they rearrange the word dawn into midday. Cass asked Nix and Del to bring Dr. Garriso to meet them so he could inspect the collar. they went to the shifter's stronghold, return Amara and discussed about how to remove it.

then, because Cass was a boring, goody-girl in two shoes, disgusting, cliche, stupid leading female character, she got this brilliant idea to ask Nix to transfer the collar's magic into a forged collar and she would wear it (ugh, i fcking hate her). after it was transferred, she passed out and dreamed about her days in prison, killing her jailer and stole his mirror magic. when she woke up, she found herself in Aidan's hovel with her sister.

the next day, they decided to spy on the shifter that kidnapped Amara but Matthias and Aidan was called to asses a firesoul who were captured the previous day to find out did he lie or not. so, nix, cass, and del went on a mission together. they went somewhere using the teleport charm (i think somewhere in rome?), fought Hercules and Medusa's stone statue, met some prostitute ghost who led them to the place where the shifter-kidnappers usually hide, and almost got caught because stupid Cass fell down the stairs when they were eavesdropping (the twin said something about waiting for a 'him' and that they couldn't meet him yet because they couldn't present Amara), and then they directly teleported back to Aidan's hovel using the charm (weird, it was protected with millions of dollar charms but everyone could easily come and go).

Mathias was in the barn, del and nix left aidan and cass alone to talk and practice her mirror magic so she could shift and then aidan healed her because her collar made her weak, and then they kissed but they stopped. it was a small hovel after all but Aidan's touch removed cass' pain so they slept together that night.

next morning, Cass insisted on practicing shifting again with nix and del watching out for Mathias. she failed the first time, which made del left her post and when she succeeded the second time, (here comes the cliche) mathias came, and with the teleport charm, took her to the Alpha Council dungeon. she attacked him but bcs she was a nice girl, she wouldn't hurt him and only tried to convince him. she said she didn't want to help at first but because live was at stake, she helped anyway, for the good of his own kin, so he brought her back and got attacked by Aidan, Nix, and Del. but Cass calmed them down.

the next morning, Cass woke with the sound of Claire and Connor's sound. Matthias came to them sniffing around her past then they asked him how was her job. he said it was tough because that night, they went on a battle. at first, things were great until the shifters used freezing charm and kidnapped her again. they called their master. after some torturing, Aidan and friends came, and the monster master ran away with the Heartstone.

Aidan was unwilling to kill the wolf shifter (because he killed their father) so Cass killed her herself, ridding herself off the collar, and greedily took her power. so everything was fine for a while, they returned to ancient magic the traditional way (buses and airplanes and stuff), rest a bit, and plan to tell connor and claire about who they truly were. of course they were cool with it and would not let the sisters ditch them. and finally, Cass was willing to open up to Aidan, told him her past and handed over the scroll of truth along with the chalice of youth for save keeping.

I wish I could rate this higher but if you’re reading a series, even if it’s been a year, or you’re reading one after the next, you don’t need this much recap. Honestly 25% of this book is repetitive and unnecessarily so. There could have been more character building and information regarding important issues that occur. There were editing issues ( enough to warrant that statement) and I feel we are no closer to the mystery of Cass and her sisters, so red flag for me. Not sure if I’ll continue series.

Another great book by a fantastic author! I devoured this one, and I rarely go on to the second book in a series. Yes, it does what sequels should do - move along series arcs, explain more about characters and backstory, and heighten the overall danger - but it has enough tension, plot line, and charming moments to stand on its own. Can't wait to read the third!

Good series

As good as book 1. The story just keeps going and I am the impatient type, so I wish they would move the love story side along a little faster but its made me anxious to Read Book 3 to see where the story goes.
