Wayne Walter Dyer was an American self-help author and a motivational speaker. Dyer earned a Bachelor’s degree in History and Philosophy, a Master’s degree in Psychology and an Ed.D. in Guidance and Counseling at Wayne State University in 1970. Early in his career, he worked as a high school guidance counselor, and went on to run a successful private therapy practice. He became a popular professor of counselor education at St. John's University, where he was approached by a literary agent to put his ideas into book form. The result was his first book, Your Erroneous Zones (1976), one of the best-selling books of all time, with an estimated 100 million copies sold. This launched Dyer's career as a motivational speaker and self-help author, during which he published 20 more best-selling books and produced a number of popular specials for PBS. Influenced by thinkers such as Abraham H. Maslow and Albert Ellis, Dyer's early work focused on psychological themes such as motivation, self actualization and assertiveness. By the 1990s, the focus of his work had shifted to spirituality. Inspired by Swami Muktananda and New Thought, he promoted themes such as the "power of intention," collaborated with alternative medicine advocate Deepak Chopra on a number of projects, and was a frequent guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show.
While the world burns - 21 Days to Find Sucess & Inner Peace gave me an outlet to focus on finding and projecting peace out into the world. Starting from a place of inner understanding. I can not change anything external, I first have to work on myself. Find the love and soul connection and then move out into the world.
The chapters are short and packed with great information, backed with experience that shows you how to put the breaks on and think first before you act. And what you think about becomes your reality. We attract more of what we are focused on; our thoughts are everything. So, in order to create harmony... we must change how we think. If we all did this; there would exist no war.
I found solace in this book. I also found that consistency is key to creating change. Reading every day made me feel good, I liked what I was reading, and I felt like I wanted the words to impact me. So I allowed them to. If you believe in divine connection, soul spirit, and moving from a place of love, then this is a great book. It helped to get through the days positively and gave me a new found way of connecting to things I would ordinarily be reactionary towards.
I am going to read it again, and this time, I am going to make notes... perhaps keep a journal of what I felt and the progress I made. I deliberately chose not to because I just wanted to feel my way through it. And I enjoyed that too.
Much love, one and all. Sending peace and love to every single one of you ❤️
I love how this book is set up to be read in 21 days. Each day is simple to read and the concepts one learns to master success and inner peace are so remarkably profound in their simplicity. Some examples are: "Be Attached to Nothing", "There Are No Justified Resentments", and "Trust the Spiritual Source". This little gem of a book is filled with lots of anecdotes we've heard before such as positive thinking and doing unto others and I love the straight forward approach in which the information is given by Dr. Dyer.
My first read by this author but definitely not my last!
Typical for Wayne Dyer, he gave me something to think about and enlighten every day. There were 21 guiding principles; 21 chapters which were supposed to be read daily, but I found myself not able to stop on some days. Now what I need to do is print out the list of chapter titles---principles---and meditate on these every day. Basically, the point is we are all an expression of God...He is in each of us and if we get our egos out of the way, we can live peaceful, miraculous lives.
Wayne Dyer books are always empowering. This book is short, practical and of easy understanding. 21 subjects are described with great simplicity and are life changing if applied with commitment and discipline. Worth reading many times.
Thoughtful, yet simply written, this short book will help to inspire even those that are familiar with these mindfulness concepts. It is about being our most connected and loving self, reminding us that we hold the power and no else does.
It took me a little longer than 21 days to read this as I had to return it to the library midway through, and when I had access to it again, I didn't feel particularly inspired to continue; I feel I learnt more in my seven days reading The Power of Now. The lessons started out practical enough but the closer to the end, the more spiritual and metaphysical they got and I started to vague out. I guess this would be a good guide for people who have never examined their lives, but I didn't feel there was much new stuff in here to help me.
All of Wayne's books get 5 stars from me. While I'm reading them I can feel his presence. This book fills me with excitement for my future and the future of humankind. I'm filled with hope and love. I would recommend this book to everybody. If you're feeling low, read even one chapter and I promise you will feel a little lighter and make you want to read more. God bless you Dr. Wayne. 💜
This book gives a feeling of serenity and calmness and peace that our desires are definitely going to manifest because they are in the hands of God. They will happen inspite of what the world says. We just need to trust God and His timing
Reading this book at this time of uncertainty has helped ease my tension. I realize that now I can do something positive to change my thoughts and create my own world.
This was an easy to follow book. I listened to it while reading it on my Kindle. It was a great experience and I learned a lot. Once you go through it over 21 days you can easily go back and listen to all in one day.
I heard the author on Oprah soul Sunday podcast sharing these ideas and it was so simple but powerful that I looked up all his books. This one encapsulates so much of his decades of wisdom.
It's definitely a book to keep on my self care shelf beside Excuse Me Your Life Is Waiting by Lisa Grabhorn. They both speak to the same positive, high-frequency concepts.
One of the worst ‘motivational’ books I’ve ever read. I am very interested in manifestation and spiritual healing etc. I found this book to be both patronising and extremely dismissive to anyone that has had trauma in their past or dealing with health issues. I’m all for positive thinking and trying to move forward but to suggest you simply forget about your past as it does not move you forward, or that if you are dealing with ill health you must take ‘responsibility’ for it are potentially very harmful statements and put more pressure on people that are already dealing with so much. There is no real advice in this book either, you are told to think positive thoughts but not given any help in how you can do this. I found this whole thing to be a lecture that focuses on God way too much (I have no problem with books on religion if they are promoted as such, this was not and so was both an unexpected and unwelcome element) I have found no use whatsoever in reading this book, and the only people I can see who may find some use for it are those already pretty sorted with their lives, who are healthy and have had no real trauma in their childhoods. Anyone that struggles with their mental health I would recommend you steer well clear.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, taking Dr. Dyer's advice to read positive and motivational materials before turning on any news or electronic devices in the morning after waking, so started each morning with a chapter of this book. It is a habit I will maintain, beginning each day with positive messages, thoughts and meditations. Each day's reading session is short, quick and meaningful. If not familiar with Dr. Dyer's work, this is a good introduction, and will have you searching for more in depth material and messages. I plan to reread this book in the near future, to absorb all that it has to offer.
I read this in the first 21 days of 2024, having owned it for a little while. I truly believe I started it at the right time for me and it’s been a lovely companion to my days in what has been both an emotionally turbulent and joyous time.
Chapters of this books helped to ground me, and taking a moment in every day to read the next chapter helped keep my focus.
Overall the book has helped me learn to value the moments of silence in a day, taught me to listen to my head and heart and led me to connect more with my consciousness.
Dyer's books have empowered me to be such a better person, inside and out! I liked this book, however I've read so many other books from Wayne that this was more of a recap or a consolidations of many of his other books. If you have never read any of Wayne's books, this is a PERFECT book to start with, then read the others. I will continue to read and listen to other Dyer books
While I'm sure the material here is covered by other Dyer books, there is something so appealing in the 21 days format, or also, 21 chapters. Written concisely and inspirationally, I think there is something for every one regardless of whether you are into the more spiritual components. Some of the things like, focusing on what is working and being careful of word choices is sound advice indeed.
I liked the format of this book. I especially enjoyed day 6, 13, and 14; they were very fitting for my current status in life. It was a little more religious than I expected but overall it was good.
