According to author, David Murray, this is the start of a series. With that in mind, he purposely left out passages from Luke that are available in the other gospels. That bothers me, especially for folks experiencing this gospel for the first time. Maybe I’m missing the point…
So, if the point is devotional and not Bible study, these are extremely short. That in itself is not a bad thing considering our Tik Tok generation. The format consists of four pages: dark green page with a buzz phrase, 2 pages of devotional and a pale green “Changing Our Story With God’s Story” box that has a summary, few questions and prayer.
Throughout the pages of this book there are SO MANY dark green, italicized lines. I think they are supposed to be inspiring or motivating but for me, too many of them come off as trite, canned, trying too hard. Scripture is NOT supposed to be cute and this book isn’t for children.
“Parenting is rougher and tougher than plumbing. Talk about a ‘dirty job’!”
The book was full of awkward, weird sentences like this. It felt like more time was put into his pithy statements than the content. I did get one really interesting insight but overall, there wasn’t enough to engage me each morning.
Didn’t enjoy this and abandoned it after days of saying, “why am I reading this?”
