The heroine Taylor is still trying to come to terms with her mother's recent death when she meets the hero Jack, whom wants to ask her questions about her mother's past. Jack has been trying to unravel the mystery that surrounds his birth father's imprisonment for a murder he claims he did not commit, and he feels that Taylor's mother is key to the investigation. However, Taylor knows nothing about the stuff Jack tells her, and worries that her mother has hidden things from her all her life. Taylor wants to find out the truth, so she agrees to work with Jack. As they uncover more and more information about the events of 30 years ago, Taylor and Jack grow ever closer to one another, and pretty soon they are acting on the chemistry between them. But when Taylor discovers that Jack has been lying to her she feels very betrayed.

Hmmm, this is another difficult book to review and it is completely different to what I was expecting. I like the Superromance line as it deals with real life issues and is usually quite gritty, but this book was more suited to the suspense range. It focuses so much on the mystery that the romance feels like an afterthought that has been crowbarred in. The accidental pregnancy plot is both unnecessary and unbelievable, and again felts like it was forced in only as a bit of romantic conflict.

Overall, the mystery element is interesting but the romance is completely flat, and that lets this book down. A little disappointing.

The Man From Texas centers around a 30-year-old murder mystery that captured my attention from the start. It was complex and well thought out. I do think that the relationship between Taylor and Jack wasn't as well developed, but what left me confused was

Contemporary Western romance with two damaged but kind trustworthy people.
Jack Parker is investigating the murder case that sent his biological father to jail thirty years ago. He wants to know if he was really guilty and therefore he will know what type of family he comes from although he was raised by a wonderful adoptive family.
He starts by finding the missing maid, Margot Connor. Margot changed her name and had a new family by having a daughter named, Taylor Dundee. Taylor is all he has to question because he finds Margot's (Margret) home, but six months after her death. So he strong arms (in a very sexy way) Taylor to get more information about the woman that may have been the real killer, but ends up chasing her away.
Taylor is a demanding (slightly paranoid after her last bad user boyfriend) interesting beautiful modern working woman who wants to know who her mother was. Jack Parker wants to know the truth about the events that sent his own father to jail thirty years ago. So they team up (after some misgivings and awkward first impressions). The H/h are both searching for who they are by finding out about who their parents were.
Well written and edited contemporary mystery romance. Seriously fun story with little hints and complicated three dimensional characters.

Story was fine yet I have a problem with books whose back covers talk about something incident that will happen in the book, so I know it's going to happen, but it doesn't actually get written about until after the half way mark. I feel a bit cheated. That aside the characters are well rounded and there was one nice plot twist.
