Five thousand years ago, when mortals were a mere thought in the mind of their creator, Lucifer was casted out of the immortal realm of Valleyner, doomed to spend his days in the Dark Beyond. After Hanell the Creator, the Pale Lion, fashioned the mortal world of Thelsten, a secret concealed from mortals brought on grave consequences.

In the remote village of Heedeon, Bellwound Throvar and Arnon Helvug are visited by immortals from shadow and light. A weapon known as the Mezar is found, believed to house the Luciferian Epistle written before he, the Dove, suffered judgement by the Regents, gods of ultimate power and parents to Hanell the Creator.

The two boys set out on a journey with a Nephilin, hoping to find answers to their mysterious past. But secrets and lies do not ask for the right time to strike. A dark tale spreads, whispers that the Dove was expelled by the Pale Lion not because of rebellion, but because of their forbidden love for one another. While struggling to confess his true feelings for Arnon, Bellwound realizes that love won't be enough to save them from their doom, especially if the doom was caused by love itself.

As they travel across forests, deserts, and seas, they discover that the ploy of the gods will not only change their own world but will also claim lives, crowns, and kingdoms.

Immortal Crowns is the beginning of a new tale riddled with betrayal, romance, war, and deceit.

Immortal Crowns
by J.D. Netto
This is a unique book about gods and mortals, love and power. I was confused about what was going on at first, the way the story is told is partly through visions. Once I caught on, it became easier. Lucifer is the main god in the story. It has a gay main character also. In case these things bother someone, just giving a heads up.
The ending was very abrupt, but probably the best ending.

2.5 rounding to 3.

Man, I wanted to like this one but it was all over the place. We sprint through sections of character and plot development to drag on during combat or other less important areas of the plot. Which lead to every single character feeling really flat to me, and certain choices (some of *those* scenes had me doing a double take with how RANDOM they felt!!) feeling really weird.

There was a lot of potential here, because the overarching plot is there! I think we just needed at least 100 pages, maybe 150 pages more to connect the dots and expand upon things better. This is so short and disjointed it almost feels like it’s the draft post alpha read when we’re still working through things.

But maybe I’m just not the target audience, because this didn’t work for me as a whole. It was fine, but I definitely won’t be picking up the next one.

The author sent me this book in exchange for an honest review.

Immortal Crowns, first in a new series written by J.D. Netto didn't meet my expectations... at all. I had read another book by the same author and I feel like even though that was one of his firsts it was better written (or edited, perhaps) than IC.

I'm sorry but I can't in good conscience give this novel more than 2 stars. Let's see why.

Spoilery sections will be adequately hidden. Open them at your own risk!

Just by reading other reviews, I can tell that the marketing strategy for this book targeted readers searching for spicy/steamy books. Well, although for some it might deliver, it didn't for me.
The sex was all over the place (the last spicy scene??? For real??? Spilling the tea here: ), some scenes were really oddly described (Spilling the tea again: ) and it ultimately didn't add anything to the story.

Now let's forget about the sex for a sec and let's focus on other things:

1) Action scenes needed so much more editing. The pace of the story feels really weird, going from 0 to 100 in no time and it left me confused most of the times. You have no idea how many times I had to go back and read the same line again and again to actually understand what was going on, because a second before that one line literally NOTHING was happening then...BAM.

2) There's no character development. Bellwound is a pain in the ass from front to back. Arnon gets left behind. Oriah and Helstrid, the only characters that actually have a little bit of potential, are still too flat for my liking.

3) The tone is just off. We go from super descriptive and kinda wanna-be-lyrical paragraphs to dialogues were characters swear like sailors. Definitely didn't enjoy that. Imma do a real bad thing here, a comparison... take Mr. Kristoff for example: his characters also curse every single line, but he has the tone set right. He's got his thing going on, he's ironic most of the time and the character cursing fit well in the story.

4) I liked that Netto tried to be very.... material? tactile? with his writing style, but sometimes I'd read a very good description of the surroundings and what the characters would see, hear and touch and then *insert dialogue* the characters would fall into a black hole of stillness. Or again, I'd read a good description and then it would suddenly change to something else forward in time or space and the action scene would turn out blurry because the reader literally misses some steps. How did we get there EXACTLY? (Spilling the tea pt.3: )

5) Following the "action is badly edited" bullet point, I'm going to add that one of the things that really irked me was the fact that some characters were introduced out of the blue. Spilling the tea pt.4: .

6) The villains of this story don't feel like villains enough, and that's probably because we see them perhaps three times and each and every time it is... You guessed it, completely out of the blue.

7)Lots of places are named in this novel but the world building is approximate. You don't really get to know the world these characters live in because everything, again, goes by so fast! The culture though seemed interesting enough, too bad it isn't really explored.

Well, that was the last point I had to talk about. I'm gonna be honest here: this novel kinda frustrated me. It took me almost a whole month to finish it and it saddens me that I didn't enjoy it.

But oh well, what can we do, that's the reader's life, ain't it.

fantasy, love and gods

For starters I’d like to say I was between a 4-5 star rating on this. Ultimately the reason I chose 5 is because it didn’t hinder my love of the book. I had the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review and since this is my first opportunity to do this I’m going to try to hold true to my thoughts on this book as I see. I understand not all people enjoy the same writing style but this is about my thoughts on the book.

I would have loved to have had the book go into more details about characters and places. This book left you wanting more and I can not wait for the next book in this series!
My favorite genres are fantasy and this is just that. Throw in a love story or 3 and I’m in!
I’m a pretty slow reader and this book captured me right away and was a pretty quick and easy read. I felt invested in the characters, wanting to know what happens to them and how they are.

Spoiler alert****

I sobbed like a baby!
When Arnon was stabbed and reading Bellwounds reaction tore me apart. As someone who has lost a lover this definitely hit me in all the feels. I wanted to stop reading and gather my self but I couldn’t. Then when Laughlin left I lost it again!
I’m always routing for the love in a story and I hope this one can twist into a happy ending.
This book left quite a cliffhanger and I will absolutely be reading the next book. I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as me.

“Life? I wouldn’t call it life. I’d call it control,” Oriah continued. “For a while, men and women died and their spirits would find rest. Not anymore. Not since yesterday.”

🌈 A fun & entertaining read in time for Pride Month! 🌈

I love stories with unique characters that give a great background into their childhood and family struggles/dynamics. This story does just that without getting to bogged down.

The H is relatable for a diverse groups and I can’t wait for the next book.

Grab this story!!!

lotr meets vikings!

I loved this book so much. I must admit, bible-based lore isn’t something i’m used to reading, but it made this read all the more surprising!

I really liked Bellwound as a protagonist, he was energetic, cut right through things and got quickly into the action. If you blink, you missed your place, the pace is quick, but that’s what makes this addicting. You just HAVE to see what’s going to happen next! (not to mention the plot twist that leaves you searching immediately for the next book!)

You can feel the author has put much thought and research into his world building, which i really liked. Can’t wait to continue with book two!

I was so honored to be able to read this book before it came out. JD is one of my favorite indie authors. I love his take on the real world and the supernatural.

This book is full of action, humor, sadness and some bloody/gory scenes. It follows Bellwound in his journey to find out what happened to his family and what it has to do with Lucifer's Epistle that was under the floor boards of his family home.

This is also in my opinion a love story not only for Bellwound but there are several different through out the book. We find out early on that Bellwound is attracted to his very best friend, Arnon, who had a pivotal role to play in this journey.

As far as spicy scenes, they are not overly descriptive but they are detailed enough to make this reader blush. Just enough for me because I am not a big spice reader. The dance scene *chef's kiss 💋

I can not wait to get this book on my shelf along with his others I own. I hope you enjoy it too.

I feel if I give a less than good review I sort of need to explain it.
The story line is not bad, the characters themselves are good. The world building is good and the story of the gods is good.
I only found the sex scenes bad. Not because they were badly written or predominantly with men but because there were far more of them than I felt were needed. Almost like the book was written for the sex and not for the story.
There was nothing in the book bio to suggest it was this sort of book. Just simply classed as a fantasy. I would have much preferred more fantasy world and less constant sex. It distracts from the story.
But each to their own I guess.

I was excited when I was invited to ARC read, and here are my thoughts:

I had a difficult time putting the book down. My fiancée had to take it away from me when it was time to eat. There are two reasons I didn’t rate the novel a five-star. One, I wanted more showing of Bellwound’s inner struggles, especially his emotions during the hardships of the first part of the novel. Two, there wasn’t enough Arnon for me. I feel like he didn’t get enough time to shine. There is so much potential for him.

I can’t wait to read what happens next!

This book was lovely! After seeing this on TikTok about 4 months ago, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it.
This book read like I was binging a series! It kept me hooked until the end.
Also, all the twist and turns, made me love it even more. To those couple of chapters *wink wink* I read them and I loved them!
What a great queer-hero coming of age story! I can’t wait for part II. 🥰

I was sighing at page 30, cracking up 20 pages later (and not for any good reason, trust me), dying of boredom at page 60, laughed some more at page 70, and just gave up soon after. This book makes no sense whatsoever and is sooo amateurish in so many ways, chief among them the writing style and the (botched) narrative. Just excruciating.

"No parent is ready to see their child grow up. When they do, they finally belong to the world and can no longer protect them" ~Bellwound's Ma

I gotta say: This book is descriptive...like VERY descriptive

The Echoes of Fallen Stars: Immortal Crowns is a coming of age fantasy novel about our main protagonist Bellwound as he reaches his 18th birthday, - his Blood-date - and also when everything starts to go wrong; parents missing, other-worldly beings trying to kill him, fear of a one-sided love, the whole shebang.

Immortal Crowns was an interesting read, a little bit different than what I've been reading right now but J.D has a knack for character building I gotta say. Every character is going through their own struggles and J.D creates a balence between everyones relationship with each other so it's hard to not care about these characters and their journey.

BUT THAT ENDING! It left me with so many more questions like; How many more Mezar's are there? What happened to Bellwound and Arnon's parents? Are there more people like Bellwound and Kymer? Can't wait for the rest of this series to answer these questions!!

Edited to add: The final version has fixed the smushed song lyrics making it so much easier to read. ❤️

I was very excited to receive an ARC of this book. Gay, fantasy-romance? Hell yeah! Unfortunately, this story just didn’t work for me. It has the potential to be brilliant but it’s a bit choppy and confusing as it is. The story jumps from high action/emotion but stops, what feels like, midway through. Then, all of a sudden, they’re in a new setting with new characters and a new part of the story. I’m still not sure what the last part was about.

Our main cast of characters are meant to have strong relationships but the how and why are left out. There is zero emotion shown, although the words hint at deep ones. These characters lose, or think they are losing, the loves of their lives but essentially shrug their shoulders and trudge on.

There are parts that I imagine would make this EXTREMELY difficult for someone with dyslexia or other reading difficulties to get through. The songs are italicized but there are no spaces between words. I have zero reading difficulties and I had to re-read these multiple times to figure out what was being conveyed. It takes away from the story. Trying to figure out what some of the characters were saying with the words written as they would sound with the characters accent was also aggravating. These parts, again, required re-reading and took away from high-impact parts of the story.

I think this story would probably come across better as an audio book, if it had an amazing narrator that could inject some emotion into the story that just reading the words lack.

Also, a glossary! There are so many characters and places that it’s easy to get confused! A glossary would be extremely helpful!

In the end, I think this is a 500+ page book, condensed down to 300 by eliminating emotion, back story, and random bits. I will most likely continue on because I need to know what happens. And hope that the following books explain what this one is missing.

DISCLAIMER: I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review.

NOTE: I was very fortunate enough to read this before it has officially come out. Here are my honest thoughts.

I was originally intrigued by this book via TikTok, like a lot of people on here, especially given how it deviates from the norm. I'm neurodivergent myself, so naturally, I'm drawn to books that do the same, and this one didn't disappoint. I also am not much of a steamy MM reader, and me being asexual, I can only handle a certain amount of spice anyway. But the spicy scenes in this one were pleasantly not overwhelming, and I was able to enjoy them without them distracting too much from the plot.

Which brings me to another point. The plot was very good. Each chapter had just enough to keep you wanting to read without revealing too much. Though I do wish there was a bit more of that forbidden romance between Lucifer and the Creator.

The characterization was also really well done. The characters weren't two-dimensional at all, and each one breathed life into the pages in their own ways.

Overall, this one surprised me. This was also admittedly my first JD Netto book, but I can see myself picking up the next installment in the series and checking out his other books.

I have been following the work of JD Netto for a while, and this last book turned out to be my favorite, a piece of art, or magic. The story starts by telling us about the simple life of Bellwound and the day he turned eighteen, and the day that follows. The main character jumps from his ordinary life to running from demons, and outcasts from the creator. Building a rich story that is not easy to put the book down, we mortals came across the secret love of Hanell (The Creator) and Lucifer, but this is a dash of the romance in the story - The good part is inside Bellwound mind, hiding his love, passion, and desires from his best friend.

However, besides the fantasy land, the fight with swords, the rare horned rabbits, the gods, and death itself, J.D. Netto mastered to guide the readers to a distant (Fake) world for some, but very familiar to many of us that lived on the darkest forest facing an emotional war.
At last, I'm giving this review five stars, for the plot, the characters, and the exciting adventure, AND expecting Part II to be as good as this one.

Wow, what a book! I know I liked something when it even had me on the verge of tears.

Okey, I'm not a fan of M/F romance in general, but I've still liked this tho because it was just some little of it, and like a secondary romance, which wasn't bad at all at the end!

But yes... I'm sorry, my favourites ones are definetly Bellwound and Arnon (my beautiful baby boys).

Anyways, no matter which way, I liked it a lot, the romance interspersed with the plot, the situations, tension, love, EVERYTHING, it made me feel so many things, and it also seemed like a super simple and very fast read! I didn't even realized when I was already going through the last 3 chapters.

As a graphic designer student, I also loved how the book itself looks, each drawing, small detail, illustration, I thought it was a beautiful book, both physically and in content. Thanks and congratulations J.D. Netto!

Immortal Crowns by J.D. Netto is a trip, a huge freaking trip, might I add.

Bellwound and Oriah are our speakers for this story, and I can't tell you enough how much I loved them both. For once, I saw myself in both Bellwound and Oriah's shoes- and if you know, you know. But this was a wild ride, and it was pretty refreshing to read. But because of that HUGE ending, I need to know more. I need Immortal Crowns Book Two more than I need Henderbell Two.

I love a good rebellion against the gods. This is the beginning of an epic tale through life and death, and it isn't the story you think it is... deliberately playing on Western tropes just to pleasantly upend them, the stakes are high, the battles are well-written, and there are a multitude of new beings to get to know. However, I would hesitate to hand this to any of my students due to the -many- sultry love scenes. They're actually incongruous to the rest of the story. A fast read, interesting, racy- everything you need for a good weekend distraction.

I loved most of the characters especially Arnon. Wished we saw from his point of view.
Not sure how I feel about Bellwound supposedly being in love with Arnon but sleeping with Kymer soon after Arnon dies. It makes me feel like his feelings are a bit weak or are not real.
Love the cliffhanger ending. Makes me want to read the next book immediately to find out what happens next.

A fantastic read. Bellwound’s world comes apart in an instant. It is a journey of discovering the truth about family and friends.

Couldn’t put the book down but it took about a week to read. There are several character introductions but they are manageable. There is romance and they are tasteful written. Looking forward to book two.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I truly enjoyed this story. The concept was intriguing and the idea itself was original and out of this world. If you are into stories that push the envelope, especially where religious stories are concerned, I highly recommend this book. It questions the stories we are told that may or may not be entirely accurate. What if it did happen this way? Read this book and find out!!

First and foremost, don't blink. You will miss some action in this book. There is always something going on, always some twist to Lookout for. The book made me want to keep reading, the spice lvl is about a 1 or 2, mostly being spicy oral fun. But the story itself was very interesting and I look forward to the next book
