Real question. How do these books keep getting better?

Cyrens, warlocks, and humans. A world at war. Is there any chance to bring them all together before the terror tempests destroy them all? Or is there something even greater at stake?

Roh is a cyren, the daughter of a criminal, a girl who has grown up as part of the lowest caste. After winning a dangerous competition, she has been asked to prove herself, setting off on three additional quests with people who hate her as her closest companions. She has faced betrayal from a close friend and now lives with a deadly poison running through her veins. As if that isn’t enough, anyone can challenge her at any time until she completes the impossible tasks the council has given her. But if anyone can beat these odds, it’s Roh.

As Roh journeys with her companions beyond the known world, she discovers a secret history that the cyrens were never taught. Who is responsible for keeping them in the dark? And what is there to gain from these secrets? Can Roh trust her companions, her mentor, even her mother?

Book three surpassed the first two in the series (which were my favorite books of 2021) in terms of risk, adventure, new allies, unexpected villains, a little romance, and some tremendous sacrifices that brought me to tears. Roh is no longer the conniving girl who once cheated for a chance to win the crown; instead, she has come to understand the consequences of her past actions as well as how much she truly has to lose.

The trials in this series reminded me of the Hunger Games and the Goblet of Fire, incredible challenges that take magic, strength of will, and tremendous wit. I recommend the books to anyone who loves a thrilling adventure and a story of redemption.

I received an ARC, but the rest of you can read this in a few weeks. Trust me. You need this book!

3.5 stars! I had good time with this! Roh’s has a lot of character growth in this book and I appreciated that, she is learning to step into her fate and become who she’s meant to be. I love the side characters and little found family she has created with her sea drake and band of cyrens, warlocks and humans. I am crossing my fingers this slow slow burn hints of romance comes to fruition in the last book. More of the threads of plot are being revealed, we have some answers and more questions, and the plot really builds up there at the end and made me excited to see how this all ends up!

Mind-blowingly good!!!

After just finishing this, the third book in The Curse of the Cyren Queen series I am left depleted. I have cried, I have literally shouted, I have gasped out loud, I have had GOOSEBUMPS!!!!

This series just keeps getting better as it builds. Helen has done an incredible job in stacking layer upon layer of action, despair, love, intrigue and more questions than answers into this book.

I am SO excited for the concluding book, I can’t wait to get some answers and see what eventuates.

Thank you, thank you Helen! All your worries and doubts were totally worth it. I am SO beyond in love with this series.

This book!!!! Holy shit!!! It was a rollercoaster the whole time and the character development between Roh and all her companions was INCREDIBLE!! By far my favorite so far. I honestly thought it would follow the same format as the second book but then the twist happened and then more character development and I cried. And then I mentally was like “I hope this happens” and it did!!!!!! I truly don’t want to finish this series because it’s so good.

I’m actually quite shocked that I’ve come to really love and care about the characters in this book given that in book one, I really could not stand practically 98% of them. Then again this author writes found family soooo freaking well!

I do not know what madame author has laced this book with because the way I’m speeding through them in a binge is ridiculous. There was just so many things that had my heart pumping!!! She knows how to write the challenges that occur spontaneously because they are so delicious and the stakes are so high.

With all that being said I do think the plot is convoluted and makes little sense so don’t ask me anything about it cause I’ll stare into space. The mermaid lore is still not for me and tbh I don’t understand anything about it either, not cause the book doesn’t explain it but for some reason my brain just isn’t retaining anything. Like I have no idea how anything works.. anyways.

Atp I’m reading for vibes and loving it so a win is a win!

This series continues to get better and better with each book, none suffer from middle book syndrome and I appreciate the attention to detail the author includes while examining tough emotional growth such as grief and loss.
The twists and bends and backstory revealed in this volume is worth the pain and agony that the author puts the reader through to get to the finale. Any details I would provide at this point will only be spoilers, and I don't want to spoil this for anyone, so just know you have to read to the end of the book. You just have to. Trust me!

Oh boy. While not my favorite of the series so far, it was still a strong story. I enjoy that this series doesn't feel drawn out like others. The protagonist Roh still makes me annoyed in her thought processes but each book it is less and less so yay character growth!

Can't wait to read the final book!

After her success in Akoris, Roh must continue her quest to win the cyren throne. Her next destination is the cyren territory of Csilla, but the journey will take Roh and her companions through human realms where danger threatens them from all sides.

Honestly, this series gets better with every instalment.

Setting off where the second book finished, we get to see much more of the world outside of Saddoriel, including some human towns at last. It was excellent to discover some new places and be introduced to some brilliant new characters, all while learning more about Roh’s existing companions along the way.

There’s so much action and drama which keeps things exciting throughout the book, mixed in with the excellent world-building. I also loved that we finally got to see some action in the romance department. The relationship between Roh and Finn has been building across the series and it was fantastic to see it come into the open a little bit in this book. Enemies-to-lovers is always a great trope, but it’s done really well in this series because it’s been developing so slowly and naturally that it is entirely believable. I also appreciated that, while it is definitely there, it doesn’t take over the story at all and the focus is still on Roh’s quest to become queen.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This was definitely my favourite book of the series so far! I can't believe how much Rohesia has grown as a character, and how far she, and her entourage, have come from the events of book 1.

The Fabric of Chaos had me laughing, crying, and beyond frustrated at the injustices Roh and her companions have been put through. Getting to experience Csilla, more of the human lands and the warlock passage, were definitely highlights of this novel, providing some fresh experiences and landscapes we haven't seen. There were some massive revelations with Roh's heritage, the pools, and the visions she experienced while in Akoris, which I can only imagine will fuel the fourth instalment's narrative.

Roh and Finn's story and development, however, were by far the best part of this novel for me personally. Watching them both grow together and come to terms with their situation and feelings was so enjoyable. I honestly could not get enough of them together!

I can't wait to continue with book 4, and to see how they plan to overcome the multitude of challenges they will no doubt face. This is quickly becoming one of my favourite series to date! I'm almost sad that it's coming to an end already...

Ahh I loved this one. I really loved the settings in this, getting to learn more about the warlock /Cyren fall out as well as a new city.

I really liked we got some background on another human from the first book. That whole set up ....It just shows how much thought this author puts into every part of her worlds, the details are incredible.

I'm also loving the information we're getting about Rohs heritage and what happened in the past (although the details are being eeked out a little slowly !! ) we had a reveal I saw coming about a character , but I love that it shows the author has planned all this from the first book.

Another great thing about this author is that she isn't afraid to add differently abled characters into her stories, and when she does they aren't just thrown in as minor characters to get diversity tick marks, they're fully fledged characters with backstories and purposes and their condition is discussion/explored where relevant. (I won't spoil the character we learn about in this book but you also have Odi, who I think has early onset arthritis?, in Oremere we had a blind MC as well as someone with an alcohol problem, in Blood and Steel you have someone with head trauma)

Can't wait to read the fourth one.

When I was given an e-ARC of The Fabric of Chaos, I thought I knew what was coming. I know just how incredible Helen Scheuerer is with her storytelling, so how could it get any better? Oh, let me count the ways…

The Fabric of Chaos is the third instalment in The Curse of the Cyren Queen quartet. Although wiser and more determined than ever to gain the cyren throne Roh rightfully earned in A Lair of Bones, Roh has been dealt so many blows already. How many more hits can she take? The tasks Roh’s been set are only getting harder, and nature is also throwing everything it has in her path. With poison coursing through her body from Adriel’s test, Roh is on borrowed time…

Helen has embraced big themes in this epic fantasy. But she hasn’t forgotten how to give us poignant moments within The Fabric of Chaos. And those moments? They pierce your heart with their realness. Helen’s writing has stolen my heart and I just want to linger in this realm with Rohesia, our troubled, beautifully chaotic cyren, who tries so hard to do the right thing.

Wow. In a way I am lost for words, in another I have so many questions that I need answering that I don't know where to start.

As with the previous 2 books in this series I know I will find myself thinking about them and the journey I've been on with Roh and the gang for months to come.

There were times I couldn't believe what I was reading, where my heart came up into my mouth and tears welled up in my eyes. And other times I caught myself smiling away.

In a way I don't want this series to end but in another I need to know what happens.

I honestly can't wait for the next book to come out so I can delve back into the world of cyrens, water warlocks and humans.

Also if anyone knows where to get a drakeling or terra panther from please let me know as I need one of each.

My most favourite read of 2022 so far .

What an amazing book! I was devouring each page I was reading, so involved in the story and reading it at any chance I got!

Such an amazing third instalment to this quartet, and the journey's that Helen takes you on is incredible. There were so many twists in this book, and I loved that I couldn't see any of them coming! We dive into more of the history of Roh's mother and the current Queen Delja as she continues her journey for the gems for her crown. I love learning about the backstory and Helen did it in such an amazing way that nothing felt forced.

Also the slow burn in this book was killing me! Just wanted to grab the two characters myself and force them together!

Another highly recommend for this series, and I cannot wait to read the final book when it's released in November!

Every book gets better and better. I am in awe of Helen’s writing, the riveting plot, amazing character development, the twists and turns. I can’t believe more people don’t know about this series yet.
This series needs to be more popular, as it’s a fantastic example for other “popular” authors out there - you don’t need to fill it to the brim with unnecessary filler chapters in order to create an immersive series that completely captivates its readers.

The main things I look for in a series are: 1) captivating, original plot, amazing character development and a dash of romance. And this series has it all.

Cannot WAIT for the final book. November cannot come quickly enough!

Rohesia of the Bone Cleaners has managed to survive retrieving the first of the Saddorial Birthstones from the deadly pool in Akoris. She even managed to survive the first of the three challenges; not only the battle, but the betrayal from her life long friend, Orson. Now, she must face further trials on the journey to Csilla, retrieve the second Birthstone and face the second challenge.

But, Roh has several secret weapons. Her Deathsong has finally poured forth from her very soul, and it is much more powerful than anyone could ever have imagined; even with the poison which is still flowing through her bloodstream. She has her companions – the human ‘Prince of Songs’, Odi; her lifelong friend and fellow bone cleaner, Harlyn. There’s Yrsa and Finn, the stubborn Jaktaran’s and the Water Warlock, Deodan. Not to mention the recently hatched Sea Drake, who is never far from Roh’s breast pocket. She has her father’s crystal dagger and her new skill with the sling and stones. But will her companions and new skills be enough to ensure she survives the cunning Cyren Council who are desperate to never see Roh claim her crown of bones?

Helen takes on a journey through the Lower Realm as the sextet travel through dangerous landscapes and endure terrifying trials. Then there’s the mystery surrounding Roh’s birth, her strange power and her link to the Sea Drake Hatchling. It’s not a straightforward journey from Akoris to Csilla; the companions facing tribulations and horrifying decisions as Roh battles for the Birthstone and the right to sit the throne. There’s maddening Cyren’s who exist only to stymie Roh. There’s a battle of epic proportions and choices to be made. But most of all, there’s under currents of loss, grief, chronic pain, suffering and cruelty. There’s a hollowness, which as a reader, you feel acutely. Your heart breaks, it leaps and drops into your stomach in equal measure. It’s a death defying, dizzying, overwhelming read, which had me on the brink of tears in so many places.

But more than that; so much more than that.

I’ve read all of Helen’s books to date – The Oremere Chronicles is honestly one of my absolute favourite series, and at more than a few points in The Fabric of Chaos, I gasped as I realised I recognised a name, character or place. That sprinkling of Easter Eggs is genius, and it bought out the book geek in me. I revelled in it, grinning from ear to ear that I could place them. Helen has said that the realms are linked, and that if you look closely enough in the two separate series, you can catch someone you might recognise. So far, I’ve found more than a few, even if she won’t confirm or deny one of my theories (I’ve begged her, but in my mind’s eye, she just grins in an evil genius kind of way without revealing a damn thing).

If you’ve never read any of Helen Scheuerer’s books, then please, start now. She’s incredible. A fantasy author like no other. Her female leads aren’t just strong. They’re messy, complicated, clumsy and imperfect. They’re relatable, kind, angry and have questionable morals. They’re just like you and I.

The Fabric of Chaos is out now on Amazon, to buy and keep or to read on Kindle Unlimited.

**4.5 STARS**

Content Warning: Violence, Grief

I liked this one so much better than book two and almost gave it 5 stars but the slow burn is way too slow haha.

Roh and her group of friends travel to the next location to find the next gem for her crown. They take a harrowing journey to Csilla and encounter so much challenges and danger. When they get to Csilla we learn more about the past between Roh’s mother and the current queen. More secrets are revealed and this time we also get some backstory about the Water Warlocks and what atrocities their people were subjected to.

Roh has more character growth especially when it comes to finding her confidence, making the right decisions, and knowing who to trust. I love that the friendship between all of them has grown tighter.

As for the romance, finally something happens and my wait has come to an end at least. I do think the slow burn was way too slow and I had to wait for book three to get more action between Finn and Roh but I guess it was worth the wait. Of course then a twist in events once more makes Roh doubt herself. The torture for Roh is never-ending, she goes through a lot of turmoil in this book! I hope she gets a really good ending in the next and final book. But what I love about her is that she grows in each book in the series.

I do wish this series was a trilogy but I get with these kinds of series on Amazon that the release dates are a shorter wait than books from bigger publishers. I love that I don’t have to wait too long but also wish the story wouldn’t go on forever.

Why you should read it:
*to continue the series – great story-telling
*slow burn romance, finally we get some action between Roh and Finn
*Roh’s character growth, lovable characters

Why you might not want to read it:
*not into a long series…seems like it’s going to be a 4 books series – you might want to wait for the *last book to be out and binge it

My Thoughts:

I love this installment to the series! It really had everything: action, danger, friendship, romance, plot twists, back story and it even ends really good! It setts up for an exciting conclusion in the next book I hope. I’ve come to love the characters and am rooting for Roh (queen or not) to make the best decisions and trust the small circle of found family around her. I look forward to reading the next book in the series and more from this author.

In THE FABRIC OF CHAOS, Roh has united her group of companions into a team that work together and like each other, but there are still plenty of enemies out there who want to destroy them.

The question is now not whether Harlyn, Finn, Ysra, Odi, and Deodan will support her, but what changes she wants to make (and whether she's willing to make the enemies that will create.) It's a moral dilemma that forces her to face her privilege and see what the wrongs are that she might be able to right.

We travel to a new cyren territory, one that is a (welcome) change from the previous. It is in that environment that Roh finally has a chance to sit and dream and gain confidence, seeing what a cyrne society could be like. The section (and location) gives another reason to root for Roh to win, but also depends the reader's understanding of the Terror Tempests, more hints that they are going to be an issue in the final book.

The book starts off with a "travel" section which I really enjoyed. It made it feel more "quest-like" to see them on an extended, difficult trip through unfamiliar lands - deadly lands. The pass was horrible, and then they get through and have to do a terrifying zip line?! (I am terrified of heights too, so it felt like insult to injury that they had to do that after a pass that was trying to kill them!)

THE FABRIC OF CHAOS is Scheuerer's most romantic book to date. It's still very much a minor subplot, but there are some feelings and sparks etc.

One book left to go in this quartet!

The third book of The Curse of the Cyren Queen starts with a prologue as we get another glimpse of the dynamic between Queen Delja and Cerys. The scene takes place when Rohesia is about 10 years old and Delja makes it seem that Roh isn’t happy and that the other children are picking on her for essentially being an orphan. After Delja leaves, she learns by water warlock magic that Roh is in fact happy.

We then dive into the story where we left off - Roh and her comrades are heading to Csilla to get the Willows Sapphire - the next birthstone of Saddoriel. On their journey, they must stop for supplies and end up with much more going on than they intended. They eventually make it to Csilla and learn that the Willows Sapphire will be harder to obtain than originally thought.

Through the story, we learn more about the characters and get to see another great cyren territory come to life through the excellent world building. There are plenty of twists and turns keeping you on the edge of your seat as Helen Scheuerer has yet again done a fantastic job with this story. All while reading through this third installment, I found myself smiling, smirking, crying and rejoicing as Roh and her friends made their way through some interesting moments.

This has been my favorite read of 2022 and I urge anyone reading the comments trying to determine if this is worth picking up - YES, YES, OMG YES!

If you enjoyed the first two books, you are going to love this one. It ticks all the boxes for a good fantasy- strong, realistic characters, enough action to keep the plot moving but not too much to water down the character development, and a splash of romance.

In this book, we really start to get to know the supporting characters, especially Finn. I am a huge fan of his growth and transformation between the first book and this book. We get to see a new side of him and learn about his past. I Ioved his interactions with Roh, but I also really enjoyed how his relationship and slow transition from scorn and dislike to trust and camaraderie with the others- particularly Odi and Harlyn-was written.
Roh continues to grow as a protagonist and really comes into her own in this book. She faces many struggles and challenges throughout the book and faces them with a realistic strength yet imperfection that makes her a protagonist you can connect with.

The romantic subplot is perfection. And it’s just that- a minor subplot, it doesn’t take over the main story but instead adds to it. The attraction was slowly growing since book 2 and is finally realized in this book. No immediate professions of love or cringey fast moving relationship like many YA books. I am very excited to see where it goes next and I am rooting for the two of them!

I loved this book and can’t wait for book 4. This series just keeps getting better and better!

This book was a very satisfying continuation of the series, not quite as amazing as book 1, but much stronger than book 2, especially in terms of plot. I did feel that it had a slow start, but when it picked up, it picked up hard.

There was so much that happened, so many secrets being revealed and yet so many questions yet to be answered. I loved how we traveled to Csilla and Roh and her companions finally found people who actually supported her and her cause. I loved the setting of the gorge, from the way Scheuerer described it, I could see it.

Close to the last third of the book, a certain plot point upped the tension to a thousand and I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see if my predictions were right. And the final few chapters? One, Roh is finally turning into the badass I knew she was all along and two, I have no idea how she's going to manage after what she lost.

My only complaint about this book is that my favourite character, Odi, almost felt like an afterthought in the first half of the book. Which disappointed me so much after how integral he was to the plot and character development of book 1. He does have more influence in the latter half of the book, but I hope we get more of him in book 4.

My other gripe is it looks like I picked the wrong ship, and I'm a little salty about it, but we'll see where the last book takes the romance.

4.5/5

In the third installment of the Curse of the Cyren Queen quartet, Roh's quest to become queen continues, along with her motley crew of companions. That's all I'll say plot-wise to avoid spoilers!

I thoroughly enjoyed this one! This is quite possibly one of the only books so far this year that has really had me excited to pick it back up and not wanting to put it down. But then sad when it finished, because I just wanted to stay in this world with these characters!

There's plenty of the good classic YA fantasy stuff in here - quests, friendships, a slowwwww burn, mysteries half solved, a sea drake companion, grief, magic, disability, !plot twists!, sacrifice, character growth, angst, interesting locations... !plot twists!

This series just gets better and better as it goes. If you've read the first one and liked it perfectly fine... trust me, keep going! Each book gets better and I wish I had the final one right now!!

Definitely one my fav reads so far this year.

P.s. now I finally have an answer to that question of which fictional location you'd like to live in. Serratega sounds like a dream, I'd love to live there and work in the candle workroom!

This is the 3rd book in the series, and it definitely is my favorite! Soooo many twists and turns. Lots of secrets were told, a good bit of them I didn't even expect. While I love Roh, I think Finn and Valli stole the show here. The character growth in all of them though is excellent. I adore the relationships between them all, and how it is growing into a family moreso than unlikely friendships. The romance tension between Finn and Roh is 🔥. The disdain and hate from the council and other cyrens are at an all time high, they absolutely will do anything to see that Roh is not crowned Queen. Finally the advice from Delija about knowing the Law of the Lair in great depths has paid off in Roh's favor, but also cost her deeply, her having to give the highest of sacrifices. What else will Roh and her friends have to sacrifice in the process of trying to make Roh Queen? Will it all be worth it? Will Roh be able to accomplish being Queen, and if she can, will the cyren people accept her and what she wishes to accomplish? Will the other races (humans and warlocks) want peace too, or will they want to fight? Cannot wait to read the fourth and final book!

The Queen's Quest

The author has a way of writing that allows you to imagine the world of the cyrens. I became invested in Roh and her friends, hoping they would win the crown and merge the races to be a better queen than those who came before her. Her humanity and sacrifice was Noble and worthy of being Queen. Finn surprised me most of all and showed how racial bias can shape the lives of children and it is learned not instinctual. The comraderie of her companions and their own individual journeys towards enlightenment was fun to read and made the characters real to me. I have enjoyed the series and would recommend it to anyone who likes to read books that will capture their attention. An action packed adventure with tender romance, dangerous trials and triumph over adversity. Valley is amazing and who wouldn't want a sea Drake of their own rather than their own dragon.

Ugh, I can't. That ending!! Really, the whole thing.

Scheuerer's Fabric of Chaos is another captivating read.
Roh has grown, and sacrificed, so much. I feel for her. I love watching her feelings develop, not only for Finn (in one way), but Yrsa, Deodan, and everyone else.

The emotions that were pulled from me, I may have actually shed a tear or two. This is probably my favorite in the series so far.

The twists were do masterfully, I honestly didn't suspect them. I cannot wait to see what they eventually flow into.

I did find a few parts that were hard for me to focus on, but it I think it was more from all of the action to a slow, almost mundane, time.

Either way, this is shaping up to be a great series and a great addition to my shelves.
