The book provides the knowledge of basic brain functions including the various key regions, sections and components in the brain on how these parts (including the neuro chemicals produced) coordinate and affect the outcome of our memories, feelings, perceptions, behaviours, actions and reactions ... both consciously or unconsciously.

Similar to other DK books named Simply xxx, all the topics covered are well written each in 2-3 pages supplemented with diagrams that help visually in understanding and remembering the context.

As the book is designed to be simple, it is expected that those who want to know in more detail have to google for more information (especially images) on specific named parts if interested.

This is the best book on brain science that I’ve seen so far! The images explain the intricate workings of the brain and for anyone who has ever struggled with feelings, moods, bad habits and trauma and been overwhelmed with what they were learning in other courses, this is the book for you.
It details the parts of the brain, how they work, what they do and what causes humans to quirk the way they do.

Best takeaway: Your emotions are not annoying pointless and disruptive - they’re tied in with your survival directly into the amygdala. Which means they’re important - even if you’re the type of person who would prefer to logic. (This is my synopsis, not written directly into the book.)

There’s no chance I’ll remember everything I read about the brain in this book, and I didn’t understand it all, but it was an interesting and relatively simple look at the human brain, how it works and what it does. The simple illustrations were visually pleasing and presented information in a more accessible way than straight text would have done. I am not very scientifically minded, but am amazed at how we have been created so complexly!

I enjoyed the book as it 'simply' introduces several topics about the brain in a light way for the non-experts. The most interesting part for me was how much we don't know about our brains and how much uncertain we are about what we might know, given all the efforts scientists have put in to understand our most advanced tool.
The book is visually appealing though at times the font is too small or the color contrast is not easy on the eye.

This book was fun to read. I learned several things that help me understand the brain and how it works. The text was easy to read, not being too technical. The only thing that I had trouble with was the darker purple pages with black text. A yellow font may have been a better choice.

I recommend this book for anyone wanting a broad general idea about how the brain works.

This book was very well illustrated and explained a lot about the brain’s functions. It covers so many relevant topics about the brain and how science has evolved in studying the brain. From basic anatomy, to emotions and sleep, this is a great read to remind us about the brain and the whys of its function!

Interesting

I read books on my phone. This one required reading glasses. It covered the brain very well in short pieces only 1 or 2 pages at a time. It was a good book.

Perfect for anyone who wants some basic knowledge of how the brain works. You might have to look up some terms though. Other than that it's very easy to understand and find specific information.

I appreciated the simplicity of this book….hence the title. It is a good very broad and very brief overview of a lot of information. I really liked the pictures and info graphics.

I was able to read this cover to cover in two hours on a flight, and it was possible to grasp a general framework of all the information while leaving much that I would need to reread or delve further into in order to understand. I gave it as a gift for my dad, and although some parts may be too basic, it provides a strong grounding in the topic, upon which he can build more in depth knowledge in more specific areas.
