A touching story about Ellen, a 12 year old girl, who "lady-sits" her 77 year old neighbor in order to earn money for a bicycle. As their friendship develops, Ellen learns a lot about her neighbor, aging, and of friendship. A wonderful story and insight into aging.
I found the writing somewhat stilted and contrived in a few places, but it's a short read (108 pages) so it's not too much of a nuisance.

This book had a profound affect on me as a young girl... it is so very moving... each caring for the other...

I loved this story, it is one that has stayed with me over the years. Well written showing the emotions of a 12 year old girl and the fierce independence of an elderly woman. Life isn't always neat and uncluttered with emotions but it is always worth the trip.
