2500 years ago, Plato’s dialogues described the island civilisation of Atlantis, which was swallowed by the sea. It was never thought to more than a legend.
During a stormy night in October 1944, U-boat 303 left Germany for Argentina. Its mysterious cargo, protected by the Nazi SS and the occult Thule Society, had the potential to win the Second World War, but the submarine never made it to its destination.
More than half a century later, its lethal cargo has fallen into the hands of terrorists. SAS veteran Andrew Sterling, now driving a desk at ‘The Firm’, is tasked with the investigation. In a race against time through The Azores, Austria, Mexico and Antarctica, and with the help of archaeologist Fiona Keane, he must unravel the deadly mystery, before an ancient weapon is unleashed on the world.
Lex Faulkner is the Amazon bestselling author of the Andrew Sterling action-adventure series and the Ethan Frost archaeological thriller series. His novels have consistently ranked in the Top 10 Amazon Rankings for their individual categories, and they have been enjoyed by thousands of readers the world over.
Lex's novels combine historical facts with contemporary fiction, weaving together compelling stories that take the reader on fast-paced journeys back through time and across continents in a way that echoes the author's own favourite genres – archaeological and historical thrillers, mystery novels and military action thrillers. The result is page-turning books in the vein of Indiana Jones, Jason Bourne and James Bond. His novels can be read independently of each other and in any order.
Lex has travelled extensively in Southeast Asia, Europe, Africa and Japan and speaks several languages.
He now lives in London and is currently working on his next novel.
3.5* Enjoyable enough thriller. There was a lot of what was really unnecessary detail. Good editing probably could have lost about a fifth of the book, and it would have flowed better imo.
Almost became a DNF but the plot was let down by what felt like a lot of unnecessary detail! Could easily have been edited to 100 pages less without losing the action.
Lex must put a lot of research into these novels that span many diverse geographic locations and different cultures. The action scenes are credible and special forces characters are treated with respect. The ‘first civilisation’ theory has been out there , perhaps even before The Chariots of the God by Erich von Däniken, and the breakup of a once supercontinent named Pangea is a credible theory in plate tectonics. Lex’s imagination is creative and leaves us to ponder on the instability of human relationships, and he provides many concrete examples of the best and worst human behaviour, contemporary and historical. Recommended as I move on to Book 2. One regret is that there are not Audible audio narrations for any of Faulkner’s novels as far as I can make out.
Absolutely brilliant. I couldn’t stop reading this one and had to continue right through. I really hope there are people out there that look after us all.
This is a very good read if not very heavy on the detail in some cases too heavy. The characters are well developed and the story is the old one of Atlantis and the Nazis with a new twist looking forward to the next but hope it’s a little lighter on the detail
An interesting read concerning a secret society which is looking to produce a biological means of a terrorist act against western society.
There are a few too many threads left hanging for my liking; I would prefer there to have been fewer descriptions of the weapons used and more resolutions to questions.
Really enjoyed this well written story. Likable characters with a fantastic story line that kept me turning the pages. The author has kept the characters grounded and made them believable and intertwined them into a riveting story that has used the past to perform a modern thriller and he has given us his own take on a what if.
