Kay swore an oath to use her Shadows to guard the light—an oath she takes very seriously. So, when a dark Shadow arises to terrorize London, she steps up and fights back. The last thing she expects is to find herself being patched up by a sexy paramedic who has no idea what kind of power he could control… or for her Shadows to recognize him as their perfect match.
Ethan doesn’t trust easily—not in matters of love, and certainly not in… whatever supernatural secrets Kay’s mixed up in. But the more time they spend together, the more he realizes he needs her with an intensity he’s never known before. Accepting her crazy, Shadow-filled world will be difficult. Opening his heart to her… he’s afraid that might be a step too far.
But the dark Shadows are growing. Their enemy is powerful—and closer than anyone realizes. Can Kay and Ethan claim their happily ever after? Or will the darkness claim them first?
Shadow Guardian, the first book in the Blood Shadows trilogy, is an adult paranormal romance for readers who love fated mates, fast-paced adventure and plenty of spice. Each book in the trilogy follows a different couple and has its own guaranteed HEA. The story concludes in book three.
Jennie Lynn Roberts believes that every kickass heroine should have control of her own story, a swoony hero to fight beside her, and a guaranteed happily ever after. Because that doesn’t always happen in real life, she began creating her own worlds that work just the way they should. And she hasn’t looked back since.
Jennie would rather be writing than doing anything else—except for spending time with her gorgeous family, of course. But when she isn’t building vibrant new worlds, she can be found nattering with friends, baking up a storm, or strolling in the woods around her home in England.
If you want to talk books, romance, movies, reluctant heroes, or just about anything else with Jennie, feel free to contact her on Facebook or Instagram But be prepared to settle in for a long chat if you bring up shifters, vampires, Star Wars, or The Princess Bride….
Rcvd an advanced reader copy from BookSirens for giving my two cents. We meet shadow guardian Kayleigh aka Kay along with her 2 bffs James and Zach. She has trained for the past 12 years with her shadows. It's smtg her parents shouldve told her about and not assume she is crazy. It was her Gran Elizabeth who took her and explained it all. Kay still feels betrayed from her parents bc they didn't fight for her. Kay has been having weird dreams and her Gran has been having visions but doesn't want Kay to tell anyone. Kay has seen some shadows in norms that shouldn't be there and she ends up hurt. Paramedic Ethan helps the young woman and there is smtg different about her..he can feel her. Ethan has always felt different growing up and when Kay tells him that he is like her...his thoughts run a mile a minute. Kay needs to stop these evil shadows and smtg about Ethan seems right. Can Ethan trust the truth and can Kay help stop the evil?
SHADOW GUARDIAN is the first book in the Blood Shadows trilogy and I may have just found a new trilogy to crush over!!!! We have fated mates, a secret society with secrets galore, the wilds of Wales, betrayal, treachery, druids, and did I mention Wales? It's here, it's all here, and it's bloody brilliant.
I won't even bother doing a run-down of the story. I know I'd miss something out accidentally. This is a fast-paced, intricate and intriguing story that lets you absorb all the details as you go along. I never felt like I was being rushed, but I also couldn't wait to see what happened next.
The characters and world-building are of the extremely high standard I have come to associate with this author but put into a contemporary paranormal setting rather than fantasy. Kay is a strong female protagonist who, yes, has her own battles to overcome, but will fight instead of waiting for rescue. And I adored how she turned Ethan down. (Read it; you'll know the bit I mean.) She let him know exactly how she felt, and how his words had hurt her, and I loved that. Don't get me wrong, I want the HEA but, sometimes - just sometimes - the men need to work a little harder for, you know what I mean?!
All in all, it was an outstanding read that I devoured in one sitting. Sheer brilliance and I can't wait for Zach's story. Highly recommended by me.

Merissa Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!y/i> Feb 4, 2022
I received this book from Book Sirens in exchange for an honest review. The plot of this book sounded really good and really interesting. The magic system was interesting, but the way it was executed was just not it for me. Everything moved way to fast and it made it so hard to connect with the characters. It was hard to believe the friendships in the triad since we didn't really see any reason to believe it. There weren't any major bonding moments for them. The romance in it was okay. It was a bit insta love to me and that isn't something that I like.
This book was very slow to get started. I started getting to the book about half way through the book. Once Ethan and Kay met the book started to get more interesting. This is a different kind of book than what I am used to reading. Characters are good, writing is good but very slow to get into and still not one hundred percent sure what a shadow weaver is. This book is a hard one for me to say much about. I liked it it was good but it did not make me want to read the next one to find out more.
I LOVED THIS BOOK. Honestly I loved the idea of modern fantasy. It genuinely felt like an opportunity to get lost in Ethan and Kay's world. There is action, adventure, drama and ooof the spiciness is electric. The author jam packs that into this book and that isn’t even a fraction of what else I lack describing. No spoilers, but I am so excited for the next book!

Shadow Guardian was a random selection out of the ARCs available and I must say I am glad I found this particular shadow world created by author Jennie Lynn Roberts. Book #1 in the Blood Shadows trilogy, each part focuses on a different couple but with a connected storyline so advise to read them in order.
Shadow Guardian introduces Kay and Ethan, one who has been trained in her world but the other completely clueless as to his origins and the source of his powers. An accidental meeting between Kay and Ethan gets Ethan to understand the secret Shadow world he has been unawaringly a part of. The story is action-filled and fast-paced, the love between the leads is instant and even though am a huge fan of that soul recognizing soul love connection and all that, here I did think that a little more detail would have worked wonders for their relationship story. It just felt a bit rushed especially when the angst follows soon after with a mini break up. Kay’s pain of not being trusted wholly and Ethan’s misconception of being cheated again after his first love went to hell never really evoked any reaction from me. It just felt like part of the story when I wanted to feel the yearning, loss, and guilt of misunderstandings.
The dark shadows and the fights involving them were fantastic, I loved Kay’s kick ass attitude and her constant strive to do the right unable to trust her own circle of friends, the warmth shared between Kay and her grandmother was wonderful and the climax scenes with everyone involved and Ethan learning about his abilities was a treat. The shadow world is still developing in the story and I am sure this will be an immersive alter world by the next book in the series.
Looking forward to the next.
Many thanks to BookSirens and the author for a chance to read and review this book. All opinions are expressed voluntarily.
This is the first book in this absolutely ENTHRALLING series. Kay found out when she was in her later teens that she wasn’t just a normal girl, but she could see shadows and was a Shadow Guardian. Being sent to the college to learn, she becomes friends with 2 guys, James and Zach, who become part of her circle.
Years later, she is a successful Shadow Guardian but starts discovering something very disturbing with her grandma, the Seer. Dark and oily shadows start infecting people who are trying to do bad things. When one of these things happens, she gets injured and meets Ethan who is the EMT who helps her. She finds that he also can use Shadows but when she asks him about it, he has no clue what she means. As they meet so she can explain, they start growing closer and closer and their shadows are explosive together.
But there is still the problem of the dark shadows, and it seems as though someone within the organization might just be the one behind it.
I cannot wait to read the next books in this series.
What I Liked: There were a lot of nice elements in Shadow Guardian. I liked the concept and world building surrounding the idea of Shadow Weavers with references to druid lore. I thought the technique of starting with a young Kay struggling to climb a tree with a shadow rope and ending with her easily using a shadow rope to accomplish her mission provided a nice contrast to show her growth over the years.
What I Didn't Really Like: I did not dislike anything specific, but I did have trouble getting emotionally engaged in the story.
Overall: If you like a strong heroine with a supportive love interest and are in the mood for a paranormal romance but need a break from vampires and shifters, you might want to give Shadow Guardian a shot.
I was blown away by this book. Maybe because it was just so different from other books that I've read. That's not to say that it's a new concept, but it was new to me and I absolutely loved it. I enjoyed the development of the characters and their relationship and I also liked how the author slowly revealed the mystery to the reader. I loved the twists and turns and the uniqueness of the story. As soon as I finished I was checking to see if the next book was available. Looking forward to reading more in the series.

This was my first book by this author and I am sorry to say it will be my last for now or until the author has had time to develop her writing skills. I managed to read 3/4 of the book before I gave up. The story was interesting enough and had a lot of potential. Unfortunately, the word building was lacking as well as characters development. Very amateurish. I do hope that in time and with more experience Jennie-Lyn Roberts will be able to offer her readers a better constructed story.
This book is the perfect introduction to the series! It immediately draws you in and keeps you turning the pages! By the end you are so captivated by the characters you can’t help but immediately get the next book!! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is a first for me from this author, and I am glad that I gave it a try. I loved the world building and the characters. the story was ell paced with a story that held my attention form the beginning to the end. The relationships between the characters was fantastic. I will be reading the next one. I Loved It!!! No Spoilers!
What a great new take on a magic system. Pulling from druidic life and bringing into today's world. Ethan and Kay were so electric. I thought at first it was too quick bit the characters thought so too and it really seemed to fit. Honestly I should have figured out who was behind it all but of course I was filed until the reveal.
Note: I received this book in exchange for an honest review, which I appreciate very much!
I didn't mind this book, and thought the plot was decent. I'd also like to find out what happens with the other characters in their own books. The plot and world-building is quite unique, certainly not like anything I've read before (e.g. the Shadows). Kay also happens to be a kick-arse heroine, and Ethan is a hottie (when he's not lashing out unfairly at innocent parties who did nothing wrong, anyway). The book has a bad guy who I only wished ill will toward (always the sign of a well-written bad guy), as well as an "on-the-surface" bad guy who you eventually realise is a victim too. Those were the bits I liked/appreciated.
On the topic of things I didn't like as much, there was something about the main pair in this book that didn't quite "grab" me, I suppose you could say. I felt like they had something akin to , although I know logically that that wasn't the case. But I felt like I was supposed to be crying along with them, but I didn't feel like doing so. This could mean I'm a horrible person, but I don't think I'm that horrible really. I guess I already said it best: these two just didn't "grab" me.
In other news, I feel that the dialogue of many characters was quite homogenous - there wasn't really any individualism in their lingo or whatever. Every time a character said the same thing as other characters (whether in internal dialogue or external), I wondered why they couldn't mix it up a bit.
On a closing note, the closing of the book made me want to immediately read book 2, so I could see what the next pair's deal is. So I guess that fact belongs in the "good" list too.
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.
Imagine reading a book, and it changes the way you see things. Everyday things, like the Shadow the light makes behind the cuppa tea on your desk. Or the one that is in the corner, cos the light doesn't quite reach that far. Cos let me tell ya, this book has done that for me!
Enter the world of the Shadows, with Guardians, Healers and Seers. With power tripping heads of Council who want. . . well I'm not really entirely sure what his plan will lead to, but it won't be good for the norms of this world, and maybe not even for those who can manipulate the Shadows. With a betrayal at the highest level. And with love at its most profound.
I loved this book! So forgive me if I rant a bit too much!
I loved that i could process each bit of new information, before the next bit came. I loved the layers to the story. There's romance, and danger. There's the world building, and the idiot trying to destroy it. There are friendship bonds, and those bonds being decimated. And so much romance, and even that being tested.
I loved that we didn't get who was controlling the Shadows that were so slimy, I had an idea but that was wrong.
I loved that Ethan took everything thrown at him, and promptly threw it back, tenfold. I loved that Kay was as damaged as he was. And I loved that when it all goes down, he says JUST the right thing to her! He melded himself into this world beautifully. I think there might be a secret or three about his full heritage to come out, but maybe I'm just reading into the story and being greedy cos I'm like that!
While Kay and Ethan do get a HFN ending, there is, I think, much to come for them. Their relationship will again be tested, and I can't wait to read about it! And Elizabeth, Kay's gran. She needs to be happy and given what is revealed here, she might be!
There is also the matter of the idiot and the Blood Shadows and what he will do now. I can't see which way he might go!
Zach, one of the Triad of Shadow Guardians with Kay and James is next. And I'm not certain who brings the trilogy to a close! James would be good, as the third in the Triad but that would mean he comes out of this mess. And if he does, he will be deeply damaged in many ways. Oh, he's gonna break my heart, I know he is! (Assuming he gets a book! *looks pleadingly at Ms Roberts!
Ms Roberts has a skill, that enables you to just fall into whichever world she writes about and you can just absorb it all, as an everyday occurrence and nothing out of the ordinary that these people can manipulate the Shadows, hinted with blues, greens and red, and heal people with a single touch.
So thank you, Ms Roberts, for a new world to fall into, even if it's just for these three books! I look forward to reading them!

Shadow Guardian - Jennie Lyn Roberts
Genre: Adult Fantasy
Rating: 3/5
Spice: 1.5/5
Review/What I Thought: So I’ll start off by saying that whilst I didn’t necessarily rate this book highly, there were elements in this book I did like.
I found the main characters had a decent depth and development to them but I was finding I wanted more from the secondary characters. I really liked the main character Kay and her grandma Elizabeth but I felt I wanted more of the side characters to add some depth.
The plot of this book felt rushed and the relationship between the two MC’s were definitely rushed. It went from 0-100 in a mere matter of pages. I would have appreciated this book more had there been a steady build to the relationship.
I really enjoyed the book once I hit the 60% mark and I was invested from that point onwards. I found I was eager to know how the book would end and I am quite glad that the next book centres around different characters.
I would have liked to have some more explanation behind the shadows to really build the series up and the book. I felt that I was a little confused about the whole “powers” aspect of things. Changing the pace between the relationship between the characters and also having a little more of a backstory would have made the difference for me. This book had potential and there were things that were missing for me.
Kay has never felt wanted or loved by her parents and has a strong resentment towards them. The only people she can trust in her life are Elizabeth, Zayn, James and David. When dark shadows start attacking people Kay will find out who she can trust as she battles to save everybody against the destructive shadows and their chaos.
I absolutely loved this book and did not want it to end! I finished the last page of the last chapter turned the page to see thank and was like no! I've not finished reading that yet I don't want it to finish!
I enjoyed the fight scenes they were really descriptive that you can imagine the tendrils and reactions of every character. I think the growth of the relationship between Kay and Ethan is well written and I can understand the turmoil between them both and found myself at times calling either character a name because of their reaction to an incident.
Completely gripping, with thrills, mystery, love and betrayal. Can't wait to read the next one!
Shadow Guardian is the first release from the Blood Shadow Trilogy and Jennie has done one fantastic job with this release. It is well-written, easy to read, and a fast-paced adventure story.
Kay is a Shadow Guardian and she has to guard the light against darkness or harm. She is always ready to fight back even if it means that she will get hurt. One night in London she got hurt and Ethan patched her up. She saw in him power that he didn’t know existed.
After the night Ethan met Kay, he couldn’t stop thinking about her and the things she said. They started to spend more time together and she showed him more of her world. A world he must have been a part of from birth.
It has been one incredible journey with both Kay and Ethan. You will not be disappointed with their story.
I would recommend Shadow Guardian to the Adult Paranormal Romance readers out there.
I really enjoyed this read. While the author didn’t go too in depth with the characters they were likeable and can be expanded on in the future books. The main character is a badass female who is a Shadow Guardian i.e. she fights the bad guys and to top off the cool chick vibe she rides a crotch rocket. She’s like Buffy with a bike…and no vampires, but there ARE dark shadows she has to fight. Close enough. My only con to the book is that the major event is over too soon. Other than that, I think this series has huge potential. I could definitely see it as a movie or TV show.
***Thank you BookSirens and Jennie Lynn Roberts for the free ARC Kindle book in exchange for a voluntary review***

I really liked this book. It took me a few chapters to fully understand this shadow world, but I am so glad I kept reading because it is truly a fantastic story. Kay is a strong badass girl loyal to her triad and grandmother. She is not afraid of fighting for her friends and family. No matter what it takes. Ethan is the outsider and it is great to see how he opens up to his powers and how he learns how to use them.
This book is full of mystery, action, and love.
I can definitely recommend this book and I can't wait to read the next one.
I really enjoyed this! With awesome world building we are introduced to the shadow world with the guardians who use their shadows to protect and the dark shadows who want to cause mayhem and chaos. Kay our fmc is a guardian who uses her shadows to guard the light and steps up to fight when the dark shadows arrive to terrorise. Ethan is a paramedic whose wary of anything supernatural or to do with romance but when he meets Kay everything changes. It’s a great read and I loved seeing this couple grow and develop as their attraction grows as does the threat that surrounds them. I look forward to reading more!
Received as an ARC, I w leaving my honest review. Be prepared to be swept into an intriguing story as Kay learns of her heritage that fulfills her duties as a guardian. Joining with 2 others, they form a strong triad. But things get complicated during an event that leaves Kay injured, and her shadows are drawn to an EMT. One that has tried to suppress his gift. Trying to explain her world to one that knows nothing about his powers is both exciting and full of concern. The Order is watching, and they have dangerous plans of their own. Be prepared to be caught in a web of emotions, deceit and danger as the plot unfolds
Shadow Guardian, by Jennie Lynn Roberts, introduces a mysterious sect of magic users, called shadow weavers, who have existed in secret for hundreds of years. The main characters, James, Zach, and Kayleigh, meet at a school for shadow weavers as teens and become best friends. Ultimately, the three form into a formidable triad of shadow guardians, meant to protect and serve. The story does a good job of setting up the character’s backgrounds, and has plenty of plot twists to keep the reader engaged. I thoroughly enjoyed it and await the next novel in the series.
Overall, I did enjoy this book. The premise was different and interesting. It had a lot of potential but personally, I couldn’t get completely invested in the characters. I think there could have been more background on what the shadows actually were and on what type of connection Kay and Ethan had. I did enjoy the character development throughout the book and how they grew together. I just wish there was a little more of a chance to connect with them. WOW! This was amazing to read, enjoy, and immerse yourself into a new world! I read this book thinking it was another shifter story, but I was very pleasantly surprised!! There is action, adventure, drama, SO MUCH spiciness... and that isn’t even a third of this story. DO NOT MISS THE AMAZING FIND! I cannot wait to read book 2 and just knowing there is a book 3 coming I'm SO SO EXCITED!!! Thank you for the opportunity to be an ARC reader.

This first book in this series opens up the world of Dru-vids to the reader and submerges them in a unique magic system and world. The characters in this first book that you meet are polar opposites of each other. One is so sure about who they are and where they fit in while the other is just learning and finding it hard to fit into this new way of seeing the world around them.

Good book and book series. I definitely recommend giving it a shot. The characters are fun to read about. It was easy to keep my attention most of the time I definitely plan to read more than this author. I look forward to future stories both by them for this world and in any others they may write. This is the first book I have read by Jennie Lynn Roberts and it takes us into the world of shadows. It is an interesting and original idea and follows Kay as she learns to trust and love after betrayal. A fast paced, action-packed story which I thoroughly enjoyed.
