Designed to reach GenZ-ers, Millennials, and their parents, the answers in this book will help to train and equip them to stand boldly on God’s Word and to give a defense of the hope offered through Christ.
As apologists, teachers, ministry leaders, and popular speakers with Reasons for Hope, Carl Kerby and Juan Valdes have been answering questions about God, the Bible, evolution, creation, etc. for decades. What they have found is that young people want answers—straightforward, authentic, evidential answers—and they are ready to listen.
Statistics from studies about why Millennials and GenZ-ers are walking away from their faith or don’t trust the Word of God almost always involve questions they had that were either never answered or were answered inadequately. This being the case, the Reasons for Hope speakers asked teens to write down what issues were posing the biggest questions or doubts about their faith. “Did Jesus Commit Suicide?” is just one of those questions.
As you read through and study the various topics and answers in this book, you will gain new insights provided by the blended voices of the thinkers, theologians, and practitioners of the Reasons for Hope team and a few friends of the ministry.
So, did Jesus commit suicide? Read the book. No spoilers here. Really though it does tackle that question as well as other tough questions head on. The answers are thoughtful and compassionate, but truthful. I appreciate the solid reliance on the Bible as the foundation for every answer. I wouldn’t just recommend it to someone looking for a specific answer though. It would also be perfect for anyone looking for a good illustration of how to think through questions and how to find a Biblical answer. If you have read many apologetics books, this may seem a little basic. I still found it encouraging, and am glad that I read it. It's always good to return to the basics and remember how sure a foundation our faith rests on.
For what it is, it is an excellent book. Solid, sensible and Scriptural. It doesn't shy away from tough questions and it doesn't soft-soap or sugar-coat what some, because of their own personal biases, would find unpleasant. Thoughtful and thought-provoking, readable and encouraging further study, interesting and introspective. I liked it so much I ordered a copy for a graduating senior. I have no doubt, if he reads it, it could change his life for the better and help him grow in the faith he barely nurtures.
This was a fantastic Spiritual Growth book. I read this aloud along with my youngest daughter (hs Jr). Much of what we read reinforced our Biblical beliefs. There were many great discussions that we had. We learned from each question how we might answer someone we might come into contact with in our daily lives. Highly recommended!
Very good book but I don’t like the title at all. Three separate times I have seen people try to refer to this book but refuse to say the name. Unfortunate. The content is top-notch, solid and easy to follow. I recommend this book.
This book dives into some basics apologetic questions and would be a great ready for a young Christian. It was a little too basic for me but I was not the intended audience so I think this book still has merit. I would recommend it to someone who has questions about Christianity and their faith.
