Experience Psalm 119 like you never have before...but a little more like the original author intended! Psalm 119, the longest chapter in the Bible, was written by the Psalmist to be supremely memorable so that YHWH's people would always remember that His Torah holds the answers for their lives. Not only did he write it to be sung, but he also used the mnemonic device of an acrostic to help YHWH's people to hide it in their hearts. In this devotional companion to the music album by the same title and author, you will find each eight-verse section of this Psalm translated in acrostic form in English. You'll be invited to spend time meditating on each section from the World English Bible (WEB) translation and from Tina Chen's new acrostic translation and journaling about it as you journey through this incredible Psalm.
Author, songwriter, and singer Tina Chen and her husband spent 12 years serving in Southeast Asia with Wycliffe Bible Translators and Crossworld. Tina is a book-loving, globe-trotting, Torah-following, home-schooling mom of five kids. Her greatest passions are learning how to live and love like Yeshua (Jesus) and teaching others to do the same. She particularly enjoys learning and talking about the Biblical feasts as well as teaching kids to worship and pray fervently and creatively. She loves music, cooking, and reading, and she's a complete sucker for a good redemptive analogy! Tina blogs at mommynificent.com. Her music can be found on all major streaming services.
Today I just read Psalm 119 again in a different version than that which Tina Chen presents. When I finished, I had trouble formulating exactly what I had read, except the general idea- it is about loving God’s law.
Herein is the beauty of Chen’s short devotional. Chen divides the lengthy Psalm 119 into the same acrostic sections as the Hebrews did, showing their style of poetic device in a way English speakers can understand and appreciate. Chen divides the Psalm into 22 sections, with 8 lines each.
First, Chen shares each section of verses in the WEB, a highly understandable version. Then she translates that into an English acrostic, with each line of that section beginning with the same letter of the alphabet. What makes this a terrific devotional is the availability of an accompanying MP3 or CD or YouTube site on which you can listen to Chen’s beautiful, catchy English acrostics and hide God’s truth in your heart. Words put to singable tunes tend to stay with us and return more easily to our minds.
An excellent resource for adults and children alike!!
What an incredible devotional book Nothing Shines Like Your Word: A Psalm 119 Acrostic Project Devotional. Tina Chen has done a wonderful job in giving you not only the opportunity to learn more about Psalm 119 but also the opportunity for reflection. The book is available as an ebook, hardcover or paperback. https://www.amazon.com/Nothing-Shines...
I also highly recommend the Nothing Shines Like Your Word: A Psalm 119 Acrostic Project music. I had the most fabulous and rejuvenating time worshiping and praising Yahweh (God) by listening to Tina Chen's album that she wrote (words and music) and sings. I highly recommend it as a wonderful way to escape the world and draw closer to Yahweh. https://tinachen.hearnow.com/
Like I said a fabulous and rejuvenating time with Yahweh!
Beautiful, inspiring translation of Psalm 119. The accompanying original music available as a CD or on YouTube makes the words come alive. This is one I’ll refer to again and again.
