Interesting move by Hajime Isayama in these three volumes, 13 to 15, as the focus turns inwards as Levi, Erwin, Eren, Mikasa and co. look to, or should I say are forced to look at domestic issues when the ruling cabal appear to be as dangerous, if not more dangerous, than the actual Titans. The problem with this is that we are introduced to too many new and/or previously unnamed characters, so despite all the drama I felt less empathy for what went on, despite still most excellent conspiracies abounding. This would have been a bit of a dip for anyone reading these, as they got published. A Three Star 7.5 out of 12 from me. One plus, was that with no Titan fighting and more dialogue, the art was comparatively easy to interpret. :)

“One exist, another enters. The stage always needs someone in this role. When one actor leaves, another jumps in to take his place. The world will always have people like us. Break a leg.”

This might possibly be one of my favorite chunks of the story.

Is there anything better than a good political thriller with awesome action scenes, deep character exploration, detailed worldbuilding, and some very interesting thematic and moral explorations? For me, the answer is no. So, this arc is exactly all that I love and more.

So far, we had explored the politics of this world in small dosages and intervals, after all, there were far more important things to focus on, but them taking center stage is nothing but immersive and gripping. We can really measure the scope of the world we are exploring based on how the political system is fleshed out.

“What are you talking about? Defeat is all the Survey Corps has ever known!!”

It is, quite honestly, impressive to see how the cast seems to continue growing and expanding, and yet we can give focus to all of them and develop them to make them distinct, interesting, compelling characters. From those that have accompanied us from volume one to those that were just introduced, there was not one character that wasn't raw, achingly human.

Hange, in this arc, is one of those characters that shine a little brighter. While I always enjoy the energy that Hange brings to the story, the determination Hange exudes is just breathtaking. Levi, however, does not fall behind, and if I had not been completely on his side, I definitely was cheering for him by the end of this collection.

Really, I just wanted to hug and cheer with each character in turn, they made the whole experience that much more enjoyable.

“What do you see yourself doing tomorrow? Will you have food on your tables? Do you think you’ll get a good night’s rest in your beds? Will those around you still be there tomorrow? I never think so. And I doubt normal people think about these things on a daily basis, so that means I’m abnormal, probably because I’ve seen far too many abnormal things. But, if Wall Rose were breached tomorrow, and we faced an emergency, I’d be faster than any of you to react and to fight. I’ll fight even if I have to face that hell again tomorrow. You’ve all seen some terrible things, too, and there might very well be more waiting for you tomorrow. I want to put an end to that recurring nightmare, right now. There are those who would get in my way. But I’m fine playing the role of the lunatic who kills people like that. I have to be ready to rearrange some faces because I choose the hell of humans killing each other over the hell of being eaten. At least that way, all of humanity doesn’t have to be damned.”

While there wasn't so much downright action, though the few scenes we had were nothing but nerve-wracking and incredibly cool, there were some serious developments and twists to be had.

From revelations that came on the back of previous moments, throw-away lines until their real importance was revealed, to those that were slightly alluded to but never fully explored, each and every one of the turns the story takes left me reeling and in awe of the genius Isayama concocted with the careful writing of this series.

Yes, we might still be far away from any sort of resolution or concrete explanations, but the continued development, character-wise as well as plot-wise, makes the experience all the things that I love the most.

“We didn’t do anything. It was everyone’s individual choices that brought change to our world.”

I can't say that this one inspired me. It felt like more of the same without increasing my buy-in or curiosity.

My sense is I'm just under half-way through. I realize these things ebb and flow from issue to issue and story-line to story-line, but, at the moment, I'm not confident I'll make it all the way through.

Alas, gazillions of readers can't all be wrong, so I may reconsider. Time will tell.

This book was lowkey a lot slower than the others so far, it hit a little plateau in volumes 13 and 14, but then EREN ATE IS DAD?! Didn’t expect that.

In the start of volume 13, Eren was found to be more fused with the titan after the 3rd time he turned in a row. Curious as to if he were to continue he would eventually fully fuse with the titan and what that would look like. I’m sure it might be covered later in the series or something, not too sure though.

Also are there other countries?? Is the titan problem international?? ‘Humanity’ seems to be confined to what’s nearby, there’s no real mention of an existence of anything beyond this dystopian setting. Wondering if it’s like a maze runner situation, like a this a simulation/experiment? Excited to see where that goes.

Attack on Titan Omnibus 5 (Volumes 13-15) is a wild ride that shifts gears from all-out Titan battles to deep political intrigue, making it one of the most layered entries in the series so far. The story picks up right after the intense showdown from the previous omnibus, with Commander Erwin leading the charge to recover Eren. This volume dives into the fallout of that battle, introducing new powers for Eren that he doesn’t fully understand, which sets up major questions about his role in the larger mystery.

What makes this omnibus stand out is the focus on the Survey Corps’ political maneuvering. Erwin becomes the star here, stepping into the political fray and pulling off some jaw-dropping moves that keep you hooked. There’s an unforgettable scene in front of the King that’s dripping with tension and smart plotting. This shift in tone—moving from giant Titan brawls to shadowy conspiracies—adds a fresh dynamic to the series. It’s not just about survival anymore; it’s about uncovering secrets and deciding allegiances, which amps up the stakes.

On the emotional side, Ymir and Krista’s storyline deepens, as Ymir makes a bold decision that could change everything. Eren’s constant need for rescue might frustrate some readers, but the theorizing about why he’s so important adds layers to the plot. The pacing is solid, bouncing between action and quieter moments of speculation, but the twists and revelations make this volume a standout.

If you’re a fan of political drama mixed with high-stakes action, Omnibus 5 delivers in spades. It’s intense, unpredictable, and packed with moments that’ll keep you turning the pages. Definitely worth picking up!

I’m hopelessly hooked. Every volume answers one questions and raises 2 more. At this point I’m wondering if I’ll be able to take a break and read anything else before I finish this series! Confusing at times but in a good way. I love it

If you 've always wanted less titans in Attack on Titan, these are the volumes for you. If you want simplistic political drama, than this might also be up your alley. I however thought these volumes were a slog and it took me a long time to get through this omnibus. Frankly, I hope the series gets better soon or I might give up on it altogether.

Possibly my fave of the arcs at this point in this series, even if it didn't have the same kind of mindblowing twists as earlier arcs. Always a fan of a good bit of political intrigue, and loved the focus being on characters other than Eren.

The plot of Attack on Titan continues to be excellent, with outstanding, flowing action and characters that keep me interested. However, I think there are some problems with the translation; characters tend to say things like "In other words" or "Meaning" or other phrases that allow them to rephrase what they just said with more detail. Occasionally, this would be fine, but it happens most of the time that someone has to give some exposition.

On a more spoilery note,

Book: Attack on Titan Omnibus, Vol. 5
Author: Hajime Isayama
Rating: 5 Out of 5 Stars

I am slowly collecting these editions of Attack on Titan, which is still my favourite manga series. I am still having all of the same feelings that I got the first time I read through this series, except now I am starting to pick up on the foreshadowing elements. It is so well done.

I am going to try to keep my review as vague as possible, but as this is the fifth omnibus volume, there may be spoilers for earlier volumes.

Let’s start with the fight scene between Kenny and Levi. That is just as well done in the manga as it is in the show. We finally get to see who Levi is and where he has come from. We see the man who raised and somewhat shaped him into who he is. We also see who taught Levie the basics. I am very impressed with how it all played out. I thought it was well done are all of the fight sequences.

Now, this is a little bit slower on the action. Instead, we get a deep dive into the political systems of the island. This does slow down the plot if you are here for the nonstop action. However, it allows us to see and experience the inner workings of the island. We get to see the how and the why as much as we can. We get to see what has allowed us to get to the point that we are. It means that some of our favourite characters don’t get as much page time as we would like, but that’s okay. This is something that needs to happen to move the plot along.

I am having just as much fun with the second reread as I did the first.

I loved this book so much. I wish I could reread this book so many times in one day. I loved how their was action and I wanted to put the book down but I powered throw all of the talkative sally's through the book. It kinda leaves you off at a hook so mack sure that you have the next book. My favorite part of the book was the hole book. I cried at the end because it was over. if you like this book let me know. Have a good day.

I really enjoyed this book the way the story ended I made mad and I finished the book at night I could not get the next book to see what happens next in the series. I would recommend this book to a lot of people who love violence, hilarious moments, and anime. It made me laugh my butt of when... not say because then I would spoil it for you. So if you want know what made laugh my butt of you'll have to read it.

This chunk of the story was absolutely packed with action, lore, dramatic reveals, and moral quandaries, but never makes it without just enough humor to catch you off guard (thanks Levi). I’ve seen this part of the anime but the revelations nonetheless are striking and totally change the structure of the world we know these characters live in. It’s all ramping up and making sense without lazy writing and I love it.

Awesome stuff, I’ve already seen the anime so I wasn’t shocked by anything going on. I really love the military, government, strategy content here, but the titans are what make the manga for me. These 3 chapters don’t contain a lot of titan activity so I’ll give it a 4, but otherwise this is peak fiction.

It is a tad slow at the beginning but the pace picks up so much toward the book's first quarter and the plot evolves so much that it was worth the two previous volumes setting the scene considering all the progress made in the omnibus's second half.
Obviously, I cannot wait to buy the rest of the series until there isn't a speck of space left on my shelf.

So much information was gained and corruption was exposed. It's almost too much. It didn't feel like info dumping, but it does overwhelm you so that you don't have the time to process everything in the moment, which is very realistic when you consider everything that's happening.

In my opinion, Team Kenny vs. Levi remains the best fight in the series.

One of my favourite arcs cause of the politics. Erwin is hotter than Levi.. I said it.
Jokes aside, loved seeing Erwin, Hanji and Levi work together but separately, its different ideas and people working together that make a change
