Any defenses that I had against these men were falling now that they knew the truth about my past—about the darkness that resided under my very skin.
After a ritual gone wrong, I find myself even more connected to them than before and embracing the intensity of what was growing between us and the strength it provided me with. Something I was going to need because the academy was becoming a very dangerous place.
When suspicion falls on me for the danger infecting the sector, I start to realize that my time at the academy may be short-lived and that this ‘fresh’ start I was hoping for could be a failed experiment.
Blood Witch features characters that are all 18+. This is not a high school academy book, and the contents are intended for mature audiences. This book includes violence, mature content, PTSD, flashbacks of abuse, and sex. There is no bullying from the harem, just psychotic men trying to claim their girl.
Blood Witch is book two in the Phases of the Moon series, which is set within the shared universe of Dark Imaginarium Academy. All series can be read independently, but characters have crossovers and it is highly encouraged to read all within the universe to understand the world in its entirety.

Just remember to love cats... that's not negotiable.
Well .... I really enjoyed book 1 and was so excited to start book 2, however the storyline fell off for me. The romance seemed redundant, and the characters became somewhat predictable.
The coolest part to the series for me was the strength of Deva. In book 2, one begins to wonder where that power went. She almost begins to rely on the boys to fight her battles instead of being pro-active in her decision making and kicking ass without permission.
I have to admit that it always takes a little while before I get back into a book in this series, part of a multiseries verse by two amazing authors. I have to remember which girl we're following again and who her guys were. I think these books would benefit from a short summary at the beginning, so it doesn't take me one third of the book before I can lean back and enjoy again. However, I love each and every series in this verse, so I'm glad I once more got an arc!
The best part about this book is clearly the harem. Those guys are quite clearly prepared to do whatever they have to do to protect and woe their girl. Over the years their morals have clearly suffered from the jobs they've done, but it's so entertaining to see them throwing around threats and everyone knowing that there is a very real chance that they will actually do what they threat to do. It's the perfect example of psychos with a soft heart for their girl.
I also love how slowly the danger is getting more and more prominent. Even though our heroine did some horrible things in het life, it's so easy to care about her and to root for her and to want her to be happy. But this book proves that our girl is far from safe. Not until she has taken care of the one person who really wants to get rid of her. And that one person is getting closer and closer to her, so it's a matter of time before the clash will happen.
However, I'm getting more and more curious to see a bit more of the lives the guys had/have when they're not with our girl. I mean, it's amazing to see how they're loving her, caring for her and protecting her, but I would love to see their true psycho side and to see what they're really capable of! Because right now it feels like their entire lives are about their girl and I like my love interests to be a little more than that. I do have high hopes though that I'll get to see more in the next book!
Blood Witch is book two in the Phases of the Moon series. This is set within the shared universe of Dark Imaginarium Academy with Author R.L. Caulder. While it's not necessary to read each series, it's best to for a better experience.
Deva continues her journey from where we last left off. The ritual went wrong and her past was exposed to the guys. It seemed to bring them closer together and their bond and connection a lot stronger. While there was less action than the first book, I think there was more of a character growth and a bit of a slow build up to the next book. I swear these guy are super cute and sweet on Deva. The chemistry and steam was sooo good! I'm soooo loving the Dark Imaginarium Academy series. Can't wait for the next book!
Book 2 is finally here and I couldn’t wait to jump back into this series. After the way the last book ended, with the FMC past being revealed to her men and the ritual going completely wrong she is feeling more and more connected to them than she ever did before. As the academy was becoming more dangerous Deva definitely had to rely on they connections. But ultimately because of who Deva is the suspension of everything happening immediately falls on her. Dam the steam in this book just keeps getting hotter and hotter each scene topping the other one I think I may need a fan. Omg the build up to that ending can’t believe that cliffhanger I just want, no need more can’t wait for book 3.
Things get more complicated for Deva (FMC) in this 2nd book in The series. Astaroth up to tricks and with whomever is helping him causing strife for her. Making it difficult for her to lead a normal student life at the Dark Imaginarium Academy. What I loved about this book is how Deva & her relationship with the guys - Alek, Lazaro, Cage, Oz and Grimshaw were more in the forefront. It gave them more time to develop their dynamic I thought. Especially with how possessive and protective they all were with Deva. A cracking cliffhanger ending. A great read
Picking up right where we left off, Deva and her men just keep on getting to know each other (craziness and all) and to try to find answers to all the questions that keep on popping up.
Great writing, great plot, really great characters who combine psychotic tendencies and sweetness overload. Book 3 can’t come soon enough.
OMG! This series is so exciting! Watching Deva rise to overcome each challenge thrown at her. Watching her men and friends support and love her through it all. Can't wait to start the next book!
This book took me on a rollercoaster of emotions. We left book 1 with a ritual going wrong but that didn't fail completely. Now she's more linked to the guys than ever, and that's good. But her HEA is still quite far. She can't catch a break and just enjoy spend the time with guys when someone continues to wreak havoc and blame it on Deva. I wonder what will happen next.
I’m so excited to read more about Deva and her delectable men! When we last saw them, Deva was getting ready to perform a powerful spell using her unique brand of magic, with the help of her guys. This book picks up shortly after the results of that spell.
The emotional connections between Deva and each of her five guys grow deeper in this book. Things heat up a bit as well and it is 🥵🥵🥵 More details about Deva’s past, and the horrors that she’s running from, come to light and lead to both good and bad occurrences. She’s still learning to lean on her friends and her men, but people with less noble intentions complicate their lives and put others in danger.
I loved this book, and while it does end on a cliffhanger, it just made me want to read the next book even more!
REVIEW FOR ENTIRE SERIES (Phases of the Moon) 🌖🌕🌔🌛🌜🌝🌗🌓🌚🌙🌒🌑
•Overall rating: 4/5. Ok so I shall start with a disclaimer, this was the third series I read for the DIA chronicles and did so immediately after The Creatures we Crave series.
THE 4TH BOOK COMES OUT IN 7 MONTHS... I am so upset as the 3rd ended on a cliff hanger... so clearly I like this series haha
The last 2 series are written by M.Sinclair but continues on with Caulders other DIA novels; The worlds within this series are derivative but in a good way - I wasnt craving a new author's spin on the classical monsters ie: vampires, witches, wolves and ghouls, I mean, if it aint broke ya know? That being said RL did a great job at being traditional with these witches but adding her own tid bits in there too.
The series was easy to read, was quick about world building but detailed enough that I could see everywhere and also scattered Easter eggs & references to her other books in here that kept me wondering (pre-emptively getting me hooked on all the series... well played Sinclair). The idea is that there's different realms for different monsters and what ties them all together for the sake of this plot is an academy that students (21+ so we keep is saucy not icky) can attend to hone their skills... yet they seem to bone more than hone in my opinion *gasps and clutches pearls* 😲
This series, covered the Witch sector and follows Deva/Ayla (ps loved that name since Clan of the Cave Bear) and her FIVE mates (my ranking):
1. Grimshaw/Grim: Shadow Daddy witch 2. Osborn/Oz: Serial Killer unblessed or nature witch 3. Lazaro/Laz: Stoic and Dom Daddy Lunar witch 4. Micajah/Cage: Nutcase and Freak-a-leek Blood witch 5. Aleksander/Alek: Swoll, russian gangster thug mutant mutant witch
🧙♂️🧙♂️🧙♂️🧙♂️🧙♂️ 🧙♀️
• Favourite character: Loved her friends in this series however they quickly became not important once they all got mated up... which I didn't care for. In the other 2 DOA stories the girls stayed closer to their friends but I guess Deva had more mates to manage haha. Deva was also this kick ass assassin who was confident in her abilities however still had some trauma to overcome plus body issues - RELATABLE MUCH? I think she did a great job at managing her many mates as well as pushing for answers and vengeance - total bad ass... no wonder she got 5 witch zaddys! 🥵
OMG THE FAMILIARS/ANIMAL COMPANIONS WERE TOO CUTE. They matched the personalities so well and when they all had cuddle puddles together 🥺 I love spiders so having one in the mix really hit for me 🕷
This series dove into the character development more so with the mates which I really enjoyed and added a layer of complexity to the bond. That being said the book kept telling us how terrifying and powerful these males were and yet... ain't no murdering or major spells - just bravado and reputation. Like is it too much to ask for a cheeky follow through on "touch her and you will be slaughtered"...??? DO I ASK TOO MUCH? 🤔
• Hated character: Emily played the perfect villan and her distain for Deva wasn't giving woman banding together... ick. That was a basic answer but there you have it, no one else really sparked intense reactions and I think that's due to having 6 main characters - tough work to juggle multiple POV and the story line. CAN I JUST SAY that one thing I did hate was the sleep to sex ratios? I don't mean to come across thirsty but like 1-2 (IF that) steamy moments from a lady with 5 hot mates? CAP CAP CAP! 🧢🧢🧢 Plus every dam chapter she's having a nap, I don't know if it is a writing tool to help manage the passing of time and/or to emphasize her power resources but dayum - Deva was tucked up for naps more than a dam cat hehehe witch pun.
• Smut vs Plot: 60/40 leaning more towards plot but I was here for it. The first book wasn't so much smut or plot but rather romance so if you are keen on possessive MMC thirsting over a FMC and giving "mine" public displays of affection - you'll be stoked with book 1. Book 2 and 3 dives more into the smut which I enjoyed - the writing was very intense in the best way.
• Spice rating (1-5): 🌶🌶 🌶.5
• Reminds me of: hmmmmm it was giving dark HP if you ask me. Liked spells and magic rulings as well as the different witch types too.
• Re-read: 💯 and will do so in October before the final book is out! YES I PREORDERED!
• Trope: Reverse Harem & Mated bonds. All males total obsessed and express it differently, hitting all tropes in the right way! 😜
• Pet names: Deva: Ayla/My obsession/little Siren/little jaguar 🐆/Zaya (bunny)🐇, little thief and starlight ⭐
• Smut energy: OK the series isn't over but again, the smut ... I expected smuttier given SHE HAS 5 MATES! There was 1 threesome and like sorry but barely! Also the inner poly me hates that she hasn't slept with all 5 yet... in fact she's only penny p with 3... poor Cage and Alek 😔
Note: all virgins at the start which yall know I don't care for 🙄 also some blood play due to a few blood witches in the mix
• Favourite dynamic: I did love that Laz and her did an enemies to lovers thing because he was such a dick to her at the start - pushing her away. Also loved her and Ozs backstory and how she fell for him first and they took each others V plates... plus who doesn't love a serial killer who has an exception... her hehehehhe 🖤🔪 👸
• Favourite quotes/Bants:
"I wanted to bury my nose against her neck and allow the perfume to seep into my senses until I had it memorized. I nearly shook my head at that—I’d already memorized it."
"I swear to fuck, I’d been damn near hard as I watched her create lunar globes to connect all of our magics. And when her power had risen up?"
"As I stood in the doorway, I breathed out in relief at the sight of Deva surrounded by blankets and sleeping peacefully."
"How I wanted to hear her say my fucking name a million other ways."
"Fuck. This woman’s heart beat for me—literally beat for me—and I couldn’t do anything to help her right now."
"Large fingers combed through my hair as I lay curled up against a warm, solid chest. I knew that it was one of my men, but I couldn’t focus enough to tell which one."
"“She’s nearly awake!” Cage groaned. His impatience was honestly pretty funny—Osborn didn’t agree, though, if the tension running through his body was anything to go by. Cage continued, “Come on, Deva, show him.” I had to force myself not to smile."
"The man looking down at me as I lay on his chest was lethal. That was the simplest way to describe him, and the way he studied me sometimes, clinical and dark, turned me on a ridiculous fucking amount."
"No part of me should have found his desire for violence or his serial-killer tendencies as attractive as I did, especially when he’d mentioned that he’d once wanted to cut me open to see what I looked like on the inside. But the reason he’d wanted to was ridiculously romantic! He hadn’t believed I could be made of what everyone else was."
"Color infused my cheeks at the intensity he drew from me, and a small bit of amusement paired with heat joined the crowd of emotions in his gaze. He knew—he completely knew—the effect he had on my body."
"“Better?” I asked softly. “Much.” Thank the fates. “Does anyone else need one?” “Nah,” Cage answered. “Everyone else isn’t a total bitc—fuck!” A shadow slammed into Cage, courtesy of Grimshaw, and I let out a rare giggle."
"“Oz…” “Now, starlight.” I dipped further under the water, moving my hand away. “It’s my scars—shit.” Oz pulled me from the water so fast I barely had time to process it before I was being pressed against the bathroom wall. He had me lifted to his height as he seared his lips to mine, a small moan leaving my mouth at the possessive and demanding action."
“You are fucking perfection, Deva. Don’t ever think anything different.”"
“You never have to thank me for telling the truth.” “You never need to thank me for taking care of you—it’s an honor.”
“Damnit,” he grunted. “How the fuck am I supposed to let you go now?” “No one said you had to,” I said breathlessly.
“Plus, the compulsion to bury myself inside of you until you’re wearing my cum is so fucking unhealthy. I need to work on some restraint.” I didn’t like the sound of that at all.
“Okay, well I just thought you should know that I’m on protection.” His gaze darted over my shoulder as he murmured to himself, “I’m not going to examine why that frustrates me.”
"Come again? Okay, well maybe not literally."
"But as sweet as that was, I hated the idea of him getting hurt. “I don’t want you to be in any pain at all.” “Then you wouldn’t wear that damn skirt,” he rumbled, narrowing his eyes at the offending garment."
“But if you really need it spelled out, Deva. Is. With. Us.”
"“I sort of like it,” I teased, making him groan and step back. I frowned, not liking the distance between us. “I need to get out of here before I fuck you on the floor. I love you.” Then he was gone."
"“Cage—” “I know, little siren, but she wouldn’t leave, and I want everyone to know that you’re with us.” “Low. Key.” I hissed. “Low freakin’ key!” “We don’t do low key,” Grimshaw pointed out."
"“No way, Alek. If you start kissing me, we’re never getting out of here.” That was entirely factual, and I saw no problem with that."
"No one talked about Deva—especially like that."
“You’re upset.” I frowned. “I don’t like that.”
"I snapped my gaze down as he offered me a dark, heated look. “I want you to watch me while I lick you.” Holy fuck."
"I turned around, grabbed her wrist, and snapped it hard. Her eyes widened as she let out a scream of pain and tried to tug out of my grasp. “You fucking bitch! What the hell is wrong with you?”
"I kept my hold on her as I raised my glass and took another long sip, her efforts to pull out of my grasp useless. I leaned down and spoke against her ear. “You ever touch me again, I will remove your hand.”
“Fuck. You taste so sweet, every part of you.” He groaned, biting down on my lip before moving down the column of my neck. “Your lips, your blood—I bet your pussy tastes even better.”
“Deva—eyes on me.”
"Deva belonged to us, and no one fucking else."
“That wasn’t a request, starlight—I will slaughter the boy.”

Blood Witch, the second book in the Phases of the Moon series by M. Sinclair and part of the shared universe of Dark Imaginarium Academy was yet again another fabulous dip into a much loved world that grabs a hold of you tightly and takes you on quite the magnificent ride! I absolutely love this series, this world and all of the fabulous interconnected characters that these stories bring and this book was no exception!
This book continues with the story of our fabulous heroine Deva and her oh so sexy and psychotic men as they try to find answers to the attacks occurring students at the academy all while trying to stay alive themselves. When past secrets are revealed, and powers and connections grow stronger, will she lose it all or will it only tie them stronger together?
Overall if you love paranormal RH stories with tons of delicious heat and chemistry featuring a badass FMC and the sexy men that fall for her then this is the one for you!!!
It kinda has everythhing i like, so why is this so bad? I don't like the characters, I kinda don't like the writing, The magic system is interessting and you get more near the end, finally, but still it's not enough. also the illusuin competition sounds so interesting but you don't get shown any of it The worst are the 5 guys lbh. They are kinda the same rich, mighty, violent, obsessed hot psycho guys with different magig but no real personality. also they are with her 24/7 at leat one of them and most of the time touching her while she is like a puppet getting dragged around. Also in the first one she kinda couln'd even get through one lesson without blacking out or sth and now she is super special snowflaky rescueing people ...or hurting them...normally I have nothing against mary sues but this just isn't for me. Also the double standard when others hurt them and they hurting others...
The Phases of the Moon books were a slight improvement over the Storm Dragons’ Mate series, but they still fell short of their potential. The protagonist, who has supposedly endured extreme trauma—including extensive torture and multiple deaths—doesn’t behave like someone who has lived through such experiences. Her trauma is mentioned, but not meaningfully explored or respected, making it feel more like a convenient backstory than a genuine part of her character.
She has five mates, and the relationship dynamic between them unfolds far too easily, without the complexity or emotional struggle that would have made it believable. The story also promised a powerful arc—she was meant to be the assassin of the big villain—but instead, she comes across as passive, lacking the strength and leadership one would expect from someone with her background.
There was enormous potential here, both in character depth and plot, but unfortunately, it wasn’t fully realised.
ughhhhhhh. i’m so disappointed. i so thought this series was going to be good. the harem was ok but i think it was the nicknames that ruined it for me. the first book was okay and had potential but this book quite literally fell apart right in front of me. this book managed to be 2 of the worst things; boring and cliché. been there, done that…
side note: i also feel like books with poorly written and boring villains aren’t as good. name a fantasy book that was good and had a boring villain? quicklyyyyyy, im waiting…
After the end of the last book where the ritual went sideways, Deva and the guys are even more connected with each one now having a piece of her moonstone. However with things going so well with the guys doesn’t mean Deva is going to get the fresh start she wants to badly. Violence and rumours on campus continue to wreck havoc on Deva as she continues to be blamed, but the guys support her no matter what and they think they have a plan?
I'm not sure how this counts as a book. It seems like filler between the beginning of a story and the end of a story without having any serious conflict or conflict resolution while also depending on the overused typical to bad writing cliffhanger ending. Add in a series of repetitive misused expressions or words and choppy scene changes and you get this mess. With a proper editor this series could be great.
It’s not a bad book but I just lost so much interest in it, the characters and FMC are just so bleh all of a sudden. The FMC was such a badass at the beginning and she can’t even do simple spells without passing out or being sick or something? Plus the girl best friends are completely put on the back burner.
Lots of action and intrigue in this series. I honestly don’t know what is going to happen next...but I can’t wait for the next book. Definitely recommend this series.
Phases of the Moon continues with Blood Witch the second book in the series and it was everything. I had all the feelings with this book, Deva and her guys had me captivated and I sure as heck didn't want the story to end.
Deva has fought so hard for her freedom and she's taking the advantage of it by forming meaningful relationships and learning all that she can, which open up a few new avenues for her. Deva is in a place where she can trust her friends with parts of herself that she's kept completely hidden. She even gets to the point that she isn't as ashamed of her scars. What I love most about Deva is that she has a kind heart but she isn't a pushover, in this book she may have let out her bloodlust a little bit, but it was totally justified. Deva stands up for herself and, in turn, learns a few things about herself.
I love Deva's guys, she's one lucky woman. Each of them are extremely powerful magic users, with great responsibility who wields respect while also commanding fear. All of them are more than a little psycho but I'm okay with that because they treat Deva like the queen she is. They understand her on a deeper level, they get to know her and are protective and possessive of her and while they will do anything to protect her they also recognize her power, teaching her different things so she can defend herself. They care so much for Deva, really nothing but a bunch of teddy bears for her, and their bond does nothing but continues to grow.
Gotta love how connected all the series are in this world is. I always enjoy seeing the other girls and their harems plus seeing the scenes and characters from another perspective is always great. I love a good witchy book, I got a little taste of it in the first book but Sinclair upped the ante with the magic stuff in this one. The terms like grounding and recharging, spells, potions, circles, rituals, and grimoires was awesome. I especially loved diving more into the different powers, seeing what they can be used for, everyone possesses different power, and seeing how Deva's power compares was interesting, girl is a badass.
Absolute love, I don't know how else to explain my feelings about this book. Blood Witch was utterly fantastic. It's easy to connect and care for these characters and Deva's story is simultaneously heartbreaking and heartwarming, she just wants to live her life on her terms and after that cliffhanger of an ending I don't know how that's gonna be possible but I can't wait to find out because she deserves her HEA, as well as answers that she needs.
I’m not really a fan of cliff hangers so no surprised ending this book on such a HUGE cliffhanger has emotionally unwell.
Thia series is *chef’s kiss*, the detail, the plot, the character growth and development! Just everything about this series comes together in a harmonic way that made this book an experience to read.
But because you really fall into the story…the cliffhanger is not only BRUTAL but devious. My adrenaline is pumping and there is nothing to do with it because of the cliffhanger!
Spoilers*** Deva spends the majority of this book falling into sync with her men, and really enjoying her classes. But the Academy is being attacked and Deva is constantly having to step in and save the day, but that means revealing more and more of her powers. (Which are honestly pretty epic.) We also get to see more of her harem’s powers as well as their romance.
So most of the book is pretty smutty and romantic, with some action here and there. But the ending….Deva is forced to defend herself using more than her lunar magic because she is set up. The set up takes place in the form of a spar, where most of her powers are muted, and the orb in which she is fighting in is getting smaller and smaller. She ends up breaking out using her magic out of concern for Grim and then the cliffhanger happens like 2 pages after. Its insane!
Also as I type this out I’m frustrated that Deva didn’t listen to her instincts to avoid the set up. She has such good ones and she ignores almost all of them while at the academy and doesn’t dwell on them. It’s insane. Also her hero complex…it’s too much!
Anyway ignore me, I just finished reading this book and am in my feels. But you should def download and read this series.
Blood Witch is the highly anticipated sequel in the Phases of the Moon series written by M. Sinclair. This slow-to-medium burn paranormal romance is brimming with action, danger, mystery, heartache, doting possessive boyfriends, and sprinkles of steamy scenes.
Deva’s story continues as book two opens immediately following the cliffhanger ending in book one. Her fresh start at Dark Imaginarium Academy is jeopardized when she fears the recent acts of violence on campus is her past catching up to her. Everyone is in danger and Deva feels responsible. Her five men; Cage, Grim, Oz, Lazaro, and Alek are fully devoted to their girl and will do whatever necessary to protect her. They’re in this together and won’t go down without a fight.
This book is fast-paced but on the slow side for steamy scenes. It makes sense that Deva needed to establish deep bonds with each of her men before connecting with them more intimately. She has a tortured past and doesn’t trust easily. All of her men are ridiculously adorable, although Lazaro got on my nerves. I’m glad Deva got to spend more time with each guy individually. This book does end on another cliffhanger.
The crossover moments from other characters in the shared world was fun. I loved that we got a little bit more of Bexley!
This is such an amazing world! I love how there are so many interconnected characters and books associated with this series. We have some top authors lending their voice and muse to this universe that it simply boggles the mind!
In Blood Witch we have M. Sinclair giving us a super strong and charismatic FMC Deva, this is book 2 and you definitely need to read book 1 Lunar Witch before you read this one!
We find Deva and her slightly psychotic men are delving into the deaths and the other attacks against students at DIA. Deva is forced to confront her past and knows that she has no choice but to tell her guys about her sorted past. But she worries that they won’t want anything to do with her after all her revelations.
Along with this is her need to protect others who inadvertently catch the eye of the killers that are roaming the campus along with the dreadful and dangerous dreams that Deva finds herself suffering from, the expansion of her powers…and the knowledge that Astaroth is somewhere out there toying with her safe haven and making her urge to run ramp up.
If you enjoy a strong FMC who doesn’t hesitate to do the right thing, who can protect herself and those she loves, but isn’t afraid to ask for help when she needs it, then this is the book for you!!!
So many surprises and hot times in this 2nd book in the series! And that ending!!!!🤯
I loved this 2nd book…. I also hated the way this one ended. Like, I’m almost in tears hated it, because I NEED MORE! And M. Sinclair is almost evil for leaving things this way lol
Seriously though, it is a great continuation of the first. You get to know the guys more in this, which you would think is a little difficult with a harem (oftentimes it seems certain ones kind of get shoved to the wayside) but it didn’t seem anyone was forgotten or favored in this. I love the OTT possessive and loving psycho men this author always creates.
Unfortunately, our fmc, Deva, doesn’t seem to be getting her fresh start like she had hoped. At least, not yet. After the ending from the last book with something in the ritual going wrong, things actually start going downhill pretty quick for our mc’s. People are being attacked and more and more eyes seem to be falling onto Deva and her guys due to these attacks.
This DOES end on a cliffhanger. It’s meant to be a 3 book series so I’m pretty antsy for the next one to be out already, especially with that ending! I’ll admit I’m having a hard time wondering how the author will manage to keep this at 3 books, when it seems like there is so much that will need to be resolved and I don’t know if it can be done in just 3, but she always seems to pull it off, so I shouldn’t question that 🥰
What can I say? I love this series! Well, actually, I love all the series in this DIA world :D
We start straight where we left off in Lunar Witch; honestly, it's a wild ride. There's tons of action, but the author keeps the story moving and throws in enough swoon-worthy moments with those crazy-hot guys (seriously, where do I find mine?). It's a perfect balance, and it works SO well.
Even with a large cast, all the characters are well-fleshed out. They're all unique and totally lovable (and, well, psycho). This book dives into Deva's secrets and her journey to accepting these guys around all the time.
As for the villain in the story, well, we kinda know who is behind it if you've paid attention in the first book ;) But then again... maybe that was too obvious, and it's someone else? I can't wait to find out! :D
There's some steam, but it's not overwhelming. Plus, by the end, I have a whole new appreciation for cuddling!
Now, why not a perfect 5 stars? It's missing that certain "je ne sais quoi" that made the first book extra special. I can't quite explain it, and it's something that is different for every reader, but hey, it happens.
Overall, this is a fantastic second book. Throw in the fun crossovers with the other series, and this one gets a permanent spot on my favorites shelf! I highly recommend this series!
WARNING! Cliffhanger! This is a fairly big one, rating about 5/5 on my trauma scale, so consider yourself warned and line up the next book!
Picking up from the cliffhanger ending of book one, we find Deva and her mates dealing with some new issues, as they discover that perhaps Astaroth is a lot closer to finding Deva than they had hoped. New attacks on the academy, and a few enemies old and new are causing problems for them, and it’s not long before Deva and co. find themselves fighting on more than one front.
Book two starts to get a little more in depth with Deva’s relationships (both intimate and just friendship), even as the darkness from her past comes to be a lot more problematical. We see a little more action, and quite a bit of magic, as they all start to work together.
This is not a standalone, and it definitely relies on the book that went before, and the cliffhanger means the next book builds upon this one. It’s an engaging story, with interesting characters set in a fascinating world. There are a few cameos from the other characters in this shared world, but this series is a standalone as far as that is concerned- you don’t need to have read those series before this one. If you’re a fan of RH fantasy, and/or academy fantasy/romance, then this is an enjoyable and entertaining series.
After the cliffy that we were left with I wasn't sure with M. Sinclair would lead us, and she didn't disappoint. We start the book off with Lazaro's POV and I love that we got to see his internal struggle, and just how passionate he is. I swear the ones that fight the hardest are the ones that fall the hardest. We also see what happened after the ending of book 1, and the theories surrounding what / why it happened.
We dive deeper into Astorath's hold over so many people, not knowing who is under his thumb, or just a spy for him. His hold knows no bounds, and everyone is sus. We see the danger ramp up as the story goes on, and the fact that the academy may not be as safe and impenetrable as it seems.
Seeing Deva's friends make more of an appearance in this book was great, I hope to see more of them in the future books. The guys and her friends are there to remind her that she's not alone now and she has people that she can depend on. When Deva and Oz were able to reconnect, WHEW, that was perfect. I also love the guys knowing each other so they can all protect her. I think Oz & Alek are my favorites right now, but Caage, Grim & Lazaro are all amazing still. Can't wait to see what happens next!
That cliffhanger, UGH. I almost dropped my kindle when I read the last chapter. I'm already on edge waiting for the next book.
Oh I was so excited when this book came out! The first book Portrayed her as this really strong and talented fmc and I felt like this one just gave a snippet into that. When reading from her point of view it was a lot of back and forth on she had the power and then she didnt. I get that she’s going to the academy to learn more about her powers especially the ones she hasn’t mastered but I still wish it showed more in what she was able to do instead of just being told what she can do. She’s in a fighting class!! And the first time one of the guys basically takes over and the second time we can really get into her fighting style and see how she can hold back her power to not hurt the person that’s basically cheating. There are other scenarios that have her use her power that leaves her basically comatose for a short period of time but if she was this all powerful assassin that had literally the whole witch world worried then why was she so weak after some scenes? I just couldn’t understand that part. I’m really hoping the third book lets her come in to her own again and doesn’t have her relying too heavily on the guys to keep picking her back up again.
Okay, where book one had a good start and then lost me for awhile, but got me back...book two pulls me in from the beginning and does a good job at keeping me engaged throughout. Book two picks up where book one left off - ritual gone wrong, Deva unconscious, friends and guys freaking out. When she comes to she finds out some shocking things, but the drama has no intentions of slowing down. DIA was supposed to be her chance at starting over, but the one person she's running/hiding from has officially found her and he is making demands. Talk about ramping up the tension!! Absolutely pulls you in and refuses to let up. I loved the drama, the steamy scenes are good and absolute toe curlers. My only draw back is that I want/need Deva to be more assertive with the guys. Have some boundaries and stand up a bit more for her friends. Her friends step up immediately when they see/sense something off/wrong. Deva needs to have the same assertiveness when it comes to them. When the guys are being stupid, step up and check them, don't be like "oh that's so sexy." There is a time and place for everything. Behave accordingly. 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Dangerous Deva?! Things are starting to get dicey at the academy as there’s more attacks on students, and poor Deva fears that it may be her past coming back for her 😩 Yet Deva is honestly the most compassionate and selfless woman despite everything that has happened to hear and I love the ge at her friends and men are trying to give her those normal experiences. And her men 😍 honestly they are gems around her, they really try to make her see she is not all that she was made to do and that she is a good person 🥰 don’t get me wrong they are lethal and a danger to everyone else but they’re obsessively possessive over Deva ❤️ She risk’s everything to help another student but people will be people and they start to speculate about her and what magic she can do 😬 is DIA really the safe place she need or are their agents at play for Astorath after her?!? Can’t believe that ending though 😩 need book three asap! *RH *multi-pov *fantasy *academy *witches *damaged FMC *established harem (5) *med burn 🔥 *2/4
