When it’s nearly time for the Allied Kingdoms Academy to reopen after the vampire attack, and I can finally see Prince Zyacus again, I have an altercation with an overpowering silver-skinned Fae. This complete scoundrel surrounds himself in clouds of black mist, creatures of nightmares, and needs a lesson in manners.
Soon after, a red moon rises in the sky. A bad omen many at the academy say. Nobody knew just how bad things could get.
Somehow the fate of the human realm falls to me, a seventeen-year-old princess still learning to use her magic and hone her sword fighting skills.
To save us from the terrible events of the Fae moon, I’m forced into a choice: do I strike a bargain with the Fae that could take me away from everything I know and love forever?
Or do I refuse, risking suffering and death to my people but keep my freedom?
This series is like Throne of Glass meets Harry Potter! If you love swoon-worthy enemies-to-lovers romance, fierce ladies, powerful dudes, magic, swords, and talking cats in an academy setting, then this is the series for you! Dive back into this fantastical world now!
I loved this one even more than the last! It was so fast-paced and action-packed. I am super excited to read the next one! Oh, also if I ever see you Jennika, it’s on site 👊🏼
To clarify, this is a 4.5 star book. I will now explain why.
This book is awesome. Having read the first one and just being floored by the plot and execution, this sequel didn’t let me down.
J.M. Kearl has such an entrancing way of writing and I am here for it every step of the way.
The character development astounds me every time. Plot holes are none existent and there are so many characters, but each are flushed out enough that you aren’t left guessing. But even with all the characters, I feel like I’m not forced to read a whole chapter about introductions. The transition between the story and the background information is seamless.
Let’s just say, I absolutely love Zyacus, he’s sweet, sassy, moody and down right loveable. Do I wish I could meet him in real life. Of course! Now onto Aric, he is a great character, even though he wasn’t as prominent in this book, (to my opinion) I felt his story arch was still very relevant to the plot and enjoyable to read. I hope we get more of him!
To the new comer, Astaroth Nightfrost. Not going to lie, he’s my favourite character so far. He was so different and so well placed, it was hard not to like him. Plus the twist shook me but it was so satisfying, exactly what the series called for!
Back to the technical side of the book. The seam between the two books was flawless. I didn’t need to catch up, I wasn’t stuck in a recap chapter and THERE WERE NO HOLES. Yes! Gold star to J.M. Kearl. Beautiful execution.
Now to the set up of the Fae. By goodness, these books are a perfect example of how to introduce a new ‘being’ without spoiling everything. We had hints of the outsiders (fae) all through book one, leaving us with the cliff hanger of how they would play a part in the sequel. Now we are at the sequel and it is so neatly woven in that their appearance is both expected and shocking. It is reaffirming our suspicions in a fun and twisty way.
Overall this book is awesome and I have already recommended the series to every reader I crossed paths with.
*The reason I dropped half a star was due to some grammatical errors. Being an editing intern, it’s hard to ignore but it’s an easy fix and super easy to pass over.*

Yessss!!! I love this series and love where the second book has taken us! The mystery was so vivid and amazing it had me at the edge of my seat! Lots of beautiful yet mysterious imagery throughout. I absolutely loved the romance and what was in store for Vis and Zy from book one!!! They are my favorite but of course I love Aric, Legacy, Taz the most loyal friend ever, Lora, and her new brother. All of the characters, main and side, continued to be spot on and I loved a couple new introductions in this one as well. The Far bring in such a cool feel and mystery! Now I have so many questions, I can’t wait to read book 3!!!
Thank you to the author for the gifted copy. All thoughts are my own
I was like... she wouldn't! But then she did, she really did! Then I was like HOT 🔥
Holy moly! That last 50% really takes you by surprise. It was clear in the beginning that this year at the Academy would be different from the previous but wow.
Action packed, sweet scenes, characters to root for and characters you would gladly punch in the throat!
I loved it! I couldn't stop reading. I can't wait for the next book!
This book was highly entertaining! I didn’t want to put it down and I found myself thinking about it while I was busy doing other things. For me, the author hit the sweet spot of juiciness between Visteal and Zyacus and kept the reader wanting more. I’m really looking forward to the next book!
I love this series and had been anxiously awaiting this book for what seemed like forever (or a few months, same thing though when you are waiting for a sequel). I really enjoyed it and finished in a couple hours. My biggest caveat was that it felt sooooo short. It was only 200 pages and it passed so quick! The pacing wasn't great to me and some parts felt like fluff despite it passing so quick, so it just didn't feel super substantial. I still really enjoyed it and love the story! I am excited for the next book and have my fingers crossed that it is longer so that it doesn't pass so quick!!
Fun and fast paced part 2 of this series. The books flow very well and constantly keep the reader trying to guess where the story will go. I enjoyed book 2 even more than book 1. I'm looking forward to book 3 with Visteal vs the fae.
This book is more intense than the last one..more sweetness and twists make the perfect combination and itz mesmerizing to read the story..I realized I did love many characters and a few I wish I could happily strangle..now it's so hard to wait and know more..hope book 3 releases soon!!
This story took a turn I didn't see. Fae are portrayed as one would expect. While I can still feel the HP and ToG vibes, it definitely turned into it's own story by the end. Which I was glad to see. I worried it would be too similar to those original stories (Troll fighting was the first scene I really got worried with) but while those tones are still there the plot is it's own.
Visteal has grown in this book, see is starting to really earn her crown. I was slightly disappointed in the friendship department. Freya is kind of just tossed to the side, Lora is a background character and the most important, Legacy, is left behind. I was just glad to see Lagacy at any point and really glad to see how her heart was broken when she found out about Visteal's deal. She was left out of a lot of this story and it makes sense as to why now and we get to see how that friendship is hurt with Visteal's choices. It made her character more real. And showed us that Visteal is not going to always make the best choices.
Overall a really good read!
⭐⭐ Story developed it's own plot and was interesting.
⭐⭐⭐ I was glad to see growth in our MC and even see the consequences of some of her choices in her friendship with Legacy.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ I would recommend to most readers and look forward to the next book.
This book was a disappointment. The heroine is VERY unintelligent. The story relied heavily on the heroine all of a sudden withholding information that people need to know in order to move the plot further along. She doesn't tell anybody anything and runs head first into making decisions that could have been avoided if she had told someone. For example, her cousin gets kidnapped by the fae prince and instead of informing her all powerful mother who probably could have gotten the cousin back in no time, she runs outside by herself, without even telling the MMC, and puts on a cursed crown that now brands her as the fae's bride. Keep in mind this cursed crown has been talking to her and drawing her to it and she knows putting it on would be a mistake and has promised everyone she won't. Only to put it on at the first sign of trouble, when there are more powerful people than her who could have got her cousin back AND prevented her from making an unwise decision. Her parents are king and queen and most of the stuff she's withholding is stuff that they would NEED to know to best be able to protect themselves and their kingdom, but instead she puts herself and a few more heirs to entire kingdoms in the hands of the enemy. SMH.

Just when you would think things would start to look up and our main characters would face minimal problems, a wrench is thrown into the plan.
They embark on a mission to help save a different world after Vis enters a bargain with the summer fae prince in exchange for him to help save her world from the events linked to the blood moon and the winter fae court. Vis, Aric, Taz and Zyacus all sneak away at the ending with Vis only leaving letters behind.
I will be reading the next book to see what the four encounter in a world where there have never been and how the parents respond to all of the royal children missing.
Oh man what a cliffhanger!! I really can not wait for the next book!! Visteal is still the same brave, fearless and a bit naive girl from book one. Zyacus is as dreamy as ever with some new events changing things up for him a bit. I really like these two together but I’m wondering if we won’t be in for a surprise in the next book with Visteal and a member of the Fae royalty?!? Needless to say I enjoyed the book and can’t wait for more! Not only do the two main characters pull you in but their friends Legacy, Taz, Aric (and even the cats) make the story better!
I picked this up because I’d read and loved the first book and this one did not disappoint. Picking up a few weeks after the events of the last one, you’re pulled right back into the world and the story, desperately wanting to know what awaits the Princess and her friends. The story was engaging and well told, and had you desperate to finish once you’d started. I read it all in one sitting and am now hungry for the third instalment. I need to know what happens next! Overall highly recommended, and a great book!
This book takes place right after the events of the first. Visteal has to prove her worthiness to return to Allied Kingdom. Things have changed and the adventures start on day one. Some of our favorite and not so favorite characters return. A lot happens in the last half of the book. The book ends on a cliff hanger and I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book!
Thank you to the author got a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
Blown away! This book is fantastic there is so much information and detail in this story that you can't put the book down. I cant wait to see what Visteal does on her new adventure with her band of friends and the fae. I am hoping Zyacus can figure something out to stop the fae winter prick from taking Visteal. Cant wait for book three!
Yes yes yes! Soooo much yes to this book! Let’s just mention that this book was a total shock and whirlwind of change. I honestly can not wait to read the next book, which I have no idea when it comes out because I haven’t looked but it better be tomorrow because I finally found another series to love!
Vis and Zyacus are finally really grooving, her powers are growing stronger, and these nuisance Fae show up with the deception and lies. How will Vistieal fight her way out of this trap?? The Prince of Hesstia will definitely be by her side.
That was a fun ride. The part before the academy was fun. Loved all the interactions with the cats. The action scenes were great. And it set up for the 3rd book! Very interested to see what happens!!
This is definitely a building story to a bigger picture. I love the characters and how their personalities and relationships are growing. Excited for the 3rd book.
