DESCRIPTION: Have you ever noticed CHILDREN WHO THRIVE AND SUCCEED IN LIFE HAVE CERTAIN SKILLS IN COMMON? Your child will learn the eight essential skills to a happy and healthy emotional life: Recognize FEELINGS Strong DECISION-MAKING Good COMMUNICATIONS Practice ANGER MANAGEMENT High SELF-ESTEEM Take RESPONSIBILITY Ability to PROBLEM-SOLVE Lasting FRIENDSHIPS What is Emotional Intelligence (EQ)? Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is a person s ability to recognize one s own emotions and the emotions of others, and to respond to those emotions in a healthy way. It is these simple, easy skill-building exercises that are presented in this book. Each exercise is explained in a Parent-Friendly, Time-Limited format. The exercises range from 30 seconds to 30 minutes. Any parent or adult who is willing to work with a child can enjoy the same success in building the child s EQ.
This was a decent starter book for a new parent but as a non first time parent, this book oversimplified a lot of issues and lumped kids into two categories... emotionally intelligent and not emotionally intelligent. In particular, this book could incorporate emotional intelligence for sensitive, or highly introverted children. There are a few good activities in the book but they seem to be variations on a similar idea.
What I liked about this book was it succinctly described what the high EQ ability is and included 8 specific skills to work on as a family. There are multiple activities for each skill that can easily be incorporated into family interactions. Can't wait to put them to the test!
