Welcome to Bliss High, rated one of the top schools in the nation for its high test scores and outstanding academic reputation. It's also the perfect place to commit murder.
Natalie knows. She knows sweet, oblivious Mandy, is meant to be hers. Lifelong friends. Forever. And Natalie won't let anyone stand in the way.
Mandy Wright is the sweetest girl at Bliss High, but unfortunately, she's also naive. She has it all: the hottest boyfriend, straight A's, the lead in the school play, everything...but a loyal friend.
You see, Natalie knows things no one else does. Like the fact that Mandy's closest friends are scheming to bring her down. That her boyfriend is cheating on her. That they're all rotten, festering in their deceit, and Mandy, dear, innocent Mandy, can't see it. But Natalie does, and she will make them pay.
She'll tear their dark secrets from them, one by agonizing one, and when all their lies are revealed, Natalie will make them pay the price for their betrayal, even if that means getting blood on her hands. Because when the last lies choke on their tongues, when the last screams fade, only then can Natalie and Mandy be best friends, the way it was always meant to be.

Jessica Blade writes YA horror and mystery suspense. She wrote her first complete novel when she was fourteen. That's when she realized how much she adores twisty plots and psycho killers, and she's been writing ever since. Jessica also loves reading RL Stine and Christopher Pike, and when she's not creating her next terrifying story, you'll find her binging horror movies and scary video games with her awesome husband.
This book was a slow start for me. While the book itself was fast paced throughout, I had a difficult time getting into it. It felt like the first half to two-thirds was written more as middle grade than YA. I couldn’t connect with the characters and everything just felt very immature.
However, I am glad I stuck with it. The last third or so picked up immensely. The twists were pretty jaw dropping and completely unexpected for me. This book left me feeling unsettled and creeped out but in a great way. I also liked the way the author addressed mental illness and I think all girls/women can relate to middle/high school woes and the difficult time it can be for us.
I recommend this book for anyone that can stick through a book that may start a little slower, but likes teen issues, psychotic killers, and shocking twists.

Page TURNER!!! Whew.. I was not expecting what happened. I was so intrigued and invested that I couldn’t stop. It was mysterious, thrilling, and spooky! I loved it!
The author, Jessica Blade, has chronicled the entire thought process of someone experiencing a form of psychosis in this YA Psycho thriller. It often goes deeper and further than most people think; you cannot see something like that on a person's exterior. You get to know Natalie and her thoughts very well as the story progresses. The structure of the story and the chapters are well put together. Her writing style is fluid, making the book easy to read. There is a suspenseful thread running through the story, however, which made it difficult to stop reading. Is YA psycho thriller your thing? Then I recommend this one. I certainly enjoyed it. Thank you for letting me read this. Currently, this book is only available in English.
Natalie just wants to be best friends with Mandy but to do so she has to eliminate all her friends one by one! For a YA book that takes place in a high school setting I did enjoy it the writing was good keep me engaged!
What a read !! That book was so wild I was addicted to it ! It deals with some mental issues and the consequences of it. We enter the world of Natalie who wants to be friend with Mandy. But things aren’t so simply. The story is very well written and is very accurate. Maybe too much accurate (in a good way). We really don’t know who we can trust when things don’t go as well as we thought. This book is centered around trust, betrayal, fear and loneliness. It’s the first book of the Bliss High Horror
This one was a doozy Think major stalker vibes meets high school drama with some mental illness I really enjoyed this story it kinda reminded me of the drama in pretty little liars but it was much more intense and sinister!!
ARC Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I Can Be Your Friend by Jessica Blade
First of all—thank you for this ARC and for casually tossing my sanity into a blender. I didn’t need stability anyway.
Let’s just get this out of the way: if death, revenge, mental illness, and bullying are things you’d rather not sit next to at dinner, maybe don’t RSVP to this one. This book doesn’t gently explore dark themes. It drags you down the hallway by your wrist and makes you look at them.
I was hooked from page one. I thought I knew where it was going. I really did. I had my little theories, my confident nods, my “ah yes, I see what you’re doing here.” Jessica Blade saw that confidence and laughed.
The desperation in this story? It’s suffocating. That raw, aching need to belong to someone. To be chosen. To be seen. To be the one person someone can’t live without. And the terrifying part? How easy it is to understand that feeling. How thin the line is between longing and obsession. Between love and control.
There’s something deeply unsettling about watching someone convince themselves they’re doing the right thing. That they’re protecting. Helping. Saving. When in reality they’re unraveling. And while reading, I kept questioning everything. The characters. The motives. My own judgment. At some point I genuinely wondered if I was the unstable one.
The fear, the frustration, the confusion—it seeps into you. I felt for all of them, even when I didn’t want to. Especially when I didn’t want to.
And the ending? I won’t spoil it. I never do. But let’s just say there’s a moment. A big one. The kind that makes you stare at the wall after you close the book and whisper, “Oh.” Did I see it coming? No. Or maybe I refused to see it because the truth isn’t comforting. It doesn’t tuck you in at night. It just sits there and dares you to deal with it.
Five heartbreaking, sanity-questioning stars. Because when a book lingers in your head long after you’ve finished it—when it makes you uncomfortable in the best, most haunting way—it deserves every single one.
If you’ve ever wanted to belong so badly it hurt… this one will hit. Hard.
First off, thank you to the author and Booksprout for a free copy of this book. I am voluntarily leaving a review and all opinions are my own.
I Can Be Your Friend by Jessica Blade had an interesting premise, but it took me a long time to actually feel invested in the story.
For the majority of the book, I was honestly pretty bored. The pacing felt slow, and it didn’t really hook me until around the 70% mark. I found myself pushing through and even considered making this my first DNF, which says a lot about how it held my attention early on.
I think a big part of my experience comes down to the fact that this is very clearly written for a younger YA audience. The writing is straightforward and easy to follow, which works well for that age group, but as an adult reader, it felt a little too simple and predictable. At times, the “horror” elements came off more like something that would genuinely scare a much younger reader, but had me more like… okay, are we serious right now?
That being said, the ending did surprise me in a good way. It picked up the pace, added some much-needed tension, and ultimately made me glad I stuck it out. I can definitely see this being a fun, slightly creepy read for younger teens or readers just getting into thrillers.
Overall, not a bad book, just not really for me. If I had read this at a younger age, I probably would have enjoyed it a lot more.

Natalie is a socially awkward high school senior. And she’s also #1 fan of Mandy Wright. Mandy is the popular girl. She’s the leader of the cool kids and dates a star athlete. And Natalie has a fantastical desire to be her bestie.
She has a plan. It’s diabolical but as achievable as any high school student can be. She must make the final cuts for the school pay. Mandy is a shoe in. This is her chance to shore up the friendship.
Mandy’s clan, the Phonies, are always surrounding Mandy. They admire and despise her. All the attention is focused on Mandy and what Mandy says is paramount. Tsk tsk if you think otherwise.
Natalie is ardent in her plan to pluck off each one of the Phonies. She doesn’t limit herself. In fact, it’s an all out rampage with bloody consequences. That’s all ok in Natalie’s mind. As long as the end result is Mandy’s friendship.
Stylistically, I Can Be Your Friend is a fast paced, adrenaline ridden, excitable journey. The short chapters and easy to read text will have you flying through it in no time. Enjoy the quick wit and twisted thoughts. You may laugh a bit, but let yourself live in it as Natalie. You’ll end up appreciating it even more.
I Can Be Your Friend was dark but captivating. It follows Natalie, who wishes to become Mandy's best friend forever, but here's the thing: Mandy doesn't even know her. They don't talk, but Natalie is obsessed and taking crucial steps to become Mandy's best friend. She knows things about Mandy's friends, and she makes sure that they will pay, the first step toward setting Mandy free and becoming her best friend. Forever.
The book is told from Natalie's perspective, someone who is completely detached from reality because Natalie has Delusional Disorder with psychosis. It was interesting because you're not following someone you root for, but someone unhinged. The story has major stalker vibes, not mystery, but a tense spiral into obsessive behavior with high school drama.
It's a short, fast-paced read that kept me hooked from start to finish. While the pacing slows a little near the end, the ending was dark, eerie, and twisted. Oh my!
I Can Be Your Friend Author: Jessica Blade Genre: YA Psychological Thriller Released: September 29, 2021 Rating: 3.5 Stars
A quick, well written ready. This is a great YA level introduction to Psychological Thrillers. For anyone who has been to high school, the division of the have & have nots is incredibly accurate and why you never really know someone. We are made aware of the FMC is delusional from the get go and she becomes increasingly unhinged as the story goes on. We are given an insight into her thought process and are given a satisfying ending with an explanation of the events that unfolded.

Tropes: Outsider, Bully, High School, Mental Health
Triggers: Not having any triggers myself, remember to be good to yourself and read the contents warnings.
What does one do with an obsession? Especially when that obsession is a person?
Natalie believes that Mandy is surrounded by friends who are fake and don't deserve to breathe the air she breathes. This naturally means that Natalie is also the only one who will be able to "save" Mandy from her friends so that Natalie will be the one left standing to help her see that she doesn't need them, she only needs her, Natalie.
The problem? How to get Mandy to see the truth and how to get rid of a group of friends that seem so close.
The story unfolds through Natalie's point of view and we see her flawed way of thinking about the world.
Overall, the story has some strengths. It has a well driven plot that keeps you reading. I was a bit disappointed in how easily I saw the twists coming and how it all seems to come to an end in just a couple pages. I would also say that this is more of a YA novel but could be entertaining to an older audience as well.
I Can Be Your Friend is a young adult twisted thriller with no foul language and no sexual content. Mandy thinks she has it all.the hottest boyfriend, straight A's, the lead in our play, But Mandy does not know is that she has a stalker. Now this person does not think of themselves as a stalker but rather someone that knows the best for Mandy, someone that knows that if she can take all these things away from Mandy then they will be the best of all. I am trying to keep the she/he out of my write up so as not to take away from the story. Jessica Blade is a talented and gifted author. The protagonist in this story is scary and only becomes more so. This book has strong, well developed characters and an intriguing story line that keeps you turning the pages. I recommend this book and would read more books by this author.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The main character in this story has one thing on her mind and she is intent on making it happen. The FMC’s inner monologue is only about that one thing and she is obsessed. She is super smart, but also, psychotic. The FMC hears bits and pieces of conversations and thinks she has a handle on things. She wants to protect someone she cares for. A few of her intentions are good, most are not. This book moves along quickly and is a complex and intricate story. The main character makes it difficult to like her, as the reader. There are lots of secrets kept. Throughout this story I had a feeling of dread. Mental health is definitely represented in this book. Check your TWs. I would recommend this book.
I really enjoyed this book! I was getting old school R.L Stine vibes from it. At first, when I started reading it, I wasn't quiet enjoying the narrative, but then I quickly realised thst it was written in the style of someone suffering from some sort of mental health/ psychosis issues. I thought I had it all figured out at the middle, but it still managed to amp up and surprise me towards the end with a home situation. Im trying not to give away spoilers so I will leave it here. But I will certainly be checking out the next in the series, as it was a perfect filler book/ day binge break from life.
Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read this book.
This book was a fast pace book that I could not put down, I found myself so invested that I kept telling myself just one more page and I’ll put it down but couldn’t.
It was cleverly written with great characters that all brought something different to the story with no two characters being the same.
The book plays on mental illness and the consequences it can bring when not kept on top of it. You never know who you can trust while reading and you cannot guess what’s going to happen next.
This is the first book in the series and I look forward to the next book! Thank you to the offer for the chance to read this as an Arc I look forward to book 2.
I Can Be Your Friend takes the reader down a few unexpected roads. It is a very dark read with obsessive, stalker behaviour that goes beyond that to a conclusion that raises the eyebrows. It is listed as a psychological suspense read and it is indeed that. Although I would not really consider this a cliff hanger ending per se, the author book does end with a "continue the story in book two" notation. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my opinion of the tale.
At first, I wasn't sure if I was going to like this story. The main character, Natalie, is a little jarring and comes across full of herself. She is a very unreliable narrator. My main gripe about the writing is some of the language Natalie uses does not come across as a 17/18 year old - no matter how smart the character is.
However, I'm glad I kept with it!! This reminded me of Heathers meets Single, White Female. I enjoyed the twist at the end, along with getting more perspective from Mandy.
‘I Can Be Your Friend’ is a YA thriller story with a gripping narrative, told through the mind of Natalie Smith, whose obsession with saving Mandy Wright from her ‘fake’ friends leads to betrayal, dark motivation, and the desperate need to kill. Sprinkled with twists and turns at every corner, ‘I Can Be Your Friend’ will keep you at the edge of your seat until the final reveal.
***
The plot itself provides readers with twists and turns every chance it gets, leaving the reader reeling through its climax until the big finale. Addressing real-life psychosis is a recurring theme throughout the story, and characters with depth are written extremely well. Not to mention the action that keeps the thrill going, and the right amount of blood to go with it. While clean language and no sexual content is an unlikely combination with most psycho thrillers, Jessica Blade does an excellent job melding the two while keeping the essence of the story.
If you're looking for a well-written, fast-paced, psycho thriller with morally-grey characters, unreliable narrators, and unforeseen endings, this is the book you won't want miss.
I loved this young adult thriller. A young girl, Natalie is determined to make friends with the most popular girl in school, Mandy. She knows things about Mandy's friends and she makes sure that they will pay, so that Mandy will be her best friend. This story had me on the edge of my seat throughout. The characters were well written and believable. The storyline left me breathless with disbelief that someone so young could be so diabolical. I would highly recommend it. Want a look into the teenage world of high school? This is the story of a girl just wanting to be the friend of the pretty and popular girl in school. But all is not what it seems. The suspense slowly builds with a plot twist I did not expect to evolve in the direction it did. Not the genre I usually read, but it kept me entertained on my work commute.

I had a bit of a slow start with this one, but once I got into it, the story really picked up.
Natalie is a complex character, sometimes wrapped up in her own world, and you’re never quite sure what to believe. She struggles with some serious mental issues, and her idea of being the “perfect friend” to Mandi takes her to some extreme places. It’s intense, unsettling, and honestly makes her feel unpredictable.
The twists in this book were fantastic. The ending surprised me, and getting more perspective from Mandi added a lot of depth.
Overall, it’s a gripping, dark, and fast-paced YA read.
I found this book intriguing and a little nail biting. It was a twisty, thrilling read that my little horror loving heart really enjoyed. I didn't care for MC as much as I feel like I could have, felt a little 0 to 100 for me in terms of escalation and that hardness to care or relate made it a 4 star instead of a 5 star, but I did overall enjoy this book. Looking forward to what else Jessica Blade does in terms of writing!
I enjoyed this book. It kept me on my toes wanting to know what will happen next . I didn’t see all the twists that happened and was in shock. This book is a definite must read and can’t wait to read the rest of the series.

This was definitely a suspenseful page turner that I didnt want to put down. I must admit that there were a couple of parts I was a bit lost on but by the end everything made sense and tied up nicely. I vant wait to read book 2 in this series.

This was such a good book ! Took me a day to read as I couldn’t put it down! I like that each character has its own personality that shows through & that almost each character introduced plays an integral part to the story! I cannot wait to read book 2. This an author you will be glad you discovered & a book you will devour.
I Can Be Your Friend is a dark, unsettling thriller about obsession and the need to belong. It took me a little while to get into the story, but once it picked up, I couldn’t stop reading. Being inside Natalie’s mind is both fascinating and disturbing. I definitely didn't see the plottwist coming!.
Thankyou so much for having me as an ARC reader! Thoroughly enjoyed it.
This book was difficult to get through with the writing style. It was hard to understand through all of the characters. The end made much sense and I was shocked actually. I am glad I pushed through!!.
