“ It’s time to reap the harvest of our labor! For so long, we have been overlooked, overworked, and underpaid; shut down and shut out; invisible and ignored. The time has come for you to know your worth, show your worth, and demand to be paid your worth.” #period
This book is so timely & so needed. As a black woman surviving (not thriving) in the workforce, I haven't always gotten the support I needed. Often, this is because so few look like me in leadership positions. While I don't always get the support I need, I have vowed to become the support for other black women n the workforce. This book has given me some valuable tools for myself & others I may mentor. As a mental health expert, Dr. Wilborn brings helpful information to the table. As women & especially black women, we're quick to neglect ourselves for others. This is not healthy & quite dangerous. We must take care of ourselves!!
Dr. Wilborn has captured our experiences and provided us with tools to support our decision making regarding our next steps. I have experienced some of the situations described in Playing a New Game: a Black Woman's Guide............it is interesting to see how other Black Women have tackled similar issues. Thank you,Dr. Wilborn for your research and book!
Dr. Tammy was a member of my cohort in the Loyola Women’s Leadership Academy. I preface that because as a white woman, I probably wouldn’t have picked up her book in the bookstore. I have a soft spot for having books on my book shelf from authors that I know.
All of that being said, the point is I LOVE this book. I loved learning about well-being through the eyes of a black woman. I am a fierce advocate for wellbeing in the workplace and learned about ways to navigate my own wellbeing.
Congratulations Dr. Tammy! The world absolutely needed to hear your perspectives. Thank you.
