In Focus Chinese Astrology provides all you need to know about the characteristics and workings of the Chinese zodiac signs, along with information on how to interpret your astrological chart. Many of us are familiar with the Western horoscope based on twelve signs starting with Aries the Ram and ending with Pisces the Fish. Similarly, the Chinese zodiac is based on twelve signs, all represented by animals, that provide insight into your personality and character. Though you are most likely familiar with your year sign, you will soon discover there is much more beyond that. In Focus Chinese Astrology is the perfect introduction—or refresher—to interpreting your horoscope according to the Eastern zodiac. Learn more about yourself and those around you in this compact but illuminating guide that also features a 16x24-inch poster with an at-a-glance references to the signs and meanings of the Chinese Zodiac . This artfully designed guide covers a wide range of astrology topics, The In Focus series applies a modern approach to teaching the classic body, mind, and spirit subjects. Authored by experts in their respective fields, these beginner’s guides feature smartly designed visual material that clearly illustrates key topics within each subject. As a bonus, each book includes reference cards or a poster, held in an envelope inside the back cover, that give you a quick, go-to guide containing the most important information on the subject.
I’m an author, speaker and publisher. My husband, Jan Budkowski, and I run two publishing companies: Stellium Ltd (www.stelliumpub.com) for fiction, digital and self-publishing services, and Zambezi Publishing Ltd (www.zampub.com) for Mind, Body & Spirit titles.
I became a professional astrologer, palmist and Tarot card reader in 1974, but I tailed off my consultancy business when my writing took off. I’ve written 136 books, mainly on mind, body & spirit subjects, with total sales of around 7 million copies, and translations of some titles into twelve languages. Like an addict, I still write, most recently a trio of time travel, action romance novels – the Tudorland series (Sophie’s Inheritance, Lucy’s Dilemma and Emily’s Mistake), a gentle spell book (Spells in Focus) for our publishing company, and In Focus: Astrology for Quarto.com
I’ve taught, broadcast and lectured all over the world, and written for many magazines and newspapers. One of my favourite features was a detailed Chinese Astrology column in Prediction magazine, starting with the January 2012 issue, until the magazine sadly closed a year later. I’ve been interested in Chinese Astrology for some time, and I concentrate on making it more accessible to our western minds.
As a past President of the British Astrological and Psychic Society (BAPS), past Chair for the Advisory Panel on Astrological Education and past member of the Executive Council of the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain, I like to think I have contributed to the writing and mind, body & spirit communities in the UK.
More recently, Jan and I created MBS Professionals Ltd, a unique, international accreditation/certification home for Mind, Body & Spirit professionals. (www.mbsprofessionals.com)
Although I still love to write, Jan and I now spend more time in running our MB&S publishing business (Zambezi Publishing Ltd), and in our brief spare time, a spot of fly fishing in the beautiful South West of England is a great way to relax...
This book has lots of information in it and is good for people who want to know more about how Chinese astrology works with the traditional horoscopes. It's fun to look up your family and friends and see who you are compatible with, I often find that it accurately predicts what animal signs you don't get on with too! (Thanks to Net Galley for this Book).
Sasha Fenton provides very interesting information about Chinese Astrology, including stating that unlike the Western zodiac, which is made up of animals, people, and one inanimate object (the Scales), the signs in the Chinese zodiac are all animals, apart from the Dragon, which is a mythical beast. Each animal represents a year in a twelve-year cycle. She presents their usual order from the Rat to the Pig.
The author states that the best way to begin understanding Chinese astrology is to look up your year sign in the chart she provides in tnis book. This list gives dates for Chinese years and each year’s polarity, element, and animal sign. She states that some Chinese astrologers dispense with the lunar year and its “floating” dates and settle instead on a solar year that starts on February 4, but for this book, she stuck to tradition and provided the lunar year dates.
She further discusses the animal signs, along with the five elements of wood, fire, earth, metal, and water stating that they have their own nature and energies, which she provides in this book.
The author discusses the characteristics of each sign based on the lunar year, each sign's general lifestyle, the yin and yang of each sign, their different personalities, and their compatibility.
This is a very informative book on Chinese Astrology and I would recommend it for beginners interested in Chinese Astrology.
Thank you Edelweiss for the chance to read and review this book.
This would make a great coffee table conversation starter. It's a great basic reference book that seems geared more toward those who know little to nothing about the Chinese Zodiac. The artwork in it is beautiful and ties everything together spectacularly.
The book is 10 chapters and split into two parts: (1) The Year Signs and the Elements and (2) The Polarities, Month Signs, and Four Pillars of Destiny. Part one is full of the basic things that anyone who has ventured into Chinese Astrology is familiar with; i.e. finding your animal and element and what they mean. Part two goes into the compatibility - how they compare and combine, the monthly animals (like the Western Zodiac) and what they mean in each year, and other things. If you have basic knowledge, part two will likely be more interesting than part one, but if you're just looking for something general to learn and/or use as a statement/conversation starter piece after, this would be something to check out.
It is well written and I enjoyed how in-depth the author did go. I enjoyed part two more as I've known the basics of this zodiac since I was little. It's also a quick read and easy to flip to the section(s) that interest you.
It is a very basic guide, which left me wanting more as i felt the majority of the book was just different information about the 12 different signs and not enough about how to read your own destiny chart. I also think it could of been written more modern (i get that it is one of the oldest astrologys out there so things would be outdated) but i felt like some of the explanations weren't relevant in our society now so it was a bit pointless.
Actually a decent amount of information for those new to Chinese astrology. It covers the basics that most people want to know, from your animal sign, the elements, polarity of yin vs yang, and then dives into a quick synopsis of how these interact with one another. By the end of the book, the author touches on briefly the four pillars of destiny and what this means for each stage of our life.
This book is a nice, short, quick read to get familiar with Chinese astrology.
I loved this book and will go back to it from time to time to see what the month/year ahead should bring. This is a great book for an introduction to Chinese astrology, I did not know anything before getting it, and would recommend it to anyone that wants to learn more about the topic. I do love the In Focus Collection and I'm looking forward to seeing what else they bring. I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review from NetGalley. #InFocusChineseAstrology #NetGalley
Very basic but interesting guide and as I just wanted to know a little bit more about Chinese astrology just for fun, it was perfect. Probably a good stepping off point for anyone interested in the subject Easy to navigate and understand.
It was informative and well-written! I enjoyed the graphics and super easy beginner interface. You could easily pick up at any point in the book and learn something.
this can be a good starter book in Chinese astrology. Like others in this series there are starting topics that one would see in other books on the topic. Nice to see you want to go more.
