As a massive fan of the show Your Home Made Perfect, I was giddy when I stumbled on this book in my local library. Laura Jane Clark is a genius (and always comes up with my favorite plans on the show). I literally devoured this book, and learned a ton. I love how she walks you through the process and guiding principles she considers when designing a home plan, and it was fun to see some great interior photos from her projects (several from the show which is fun). In a few years we’d like to renovate our kitchen, and I came away with so many ideas of ways we can optimize our space. Great read if you’re interested in residential architecture and design!
I am a huge fan of Your Home Made Perfect and always enjoy Laura Jane Clark’s ideas. When I saw this book, I knew I had to have it. I have already renovated most of my flat, but I have my home office corner and my bathroom still to do, so I’ll definitely come back to this book to help me with these projects.
I love her concepts of Flow, Light, and Storage. There were a few repetitive parts, and I would have appreciated a more thorough history of home design, but I realize that is outside of the scope of this book.
The author did a great job in explaining architectural design for those of us who are not familiar. I think what was challenging for me is that the book was set to help with European homes and did not always translate to home design in other parts of the world.
What? An interior architecture / home planning / extensions guide that doesn't suck? The best I've read on this topic, despite how often the author writes "principal" when she means "principle".
(Ignore the terrible bedroom with the toilet in it.)
