Ancient Relics, Forbidden Mantels and Death … A perfect day to call in sick at The Judas Agency
Alex has her hands full with a Freshborn Gabe. His memories are gone and his squeamish demeanor has her wanting to shove him back into the Sulfur Pools.
Gabe questions whether or not he is better off without his memories when a secret about Alex is uncovered putting their partnership at risk.
If that wasn’t complicated enough. Gabe must make a choice. Go against the direct orders of Judas and risk losing himself to powers so dark Heaven and Hell combined cannot stand against them, or listen to Judas and refuse to interfere in the evil destruction raging across the Earth. Either way it’s a no-win, no-win situation.
FINAL RUIN spans the emotional spectrum between lighthearted fun and thought provoking, with adventure and heart stomping action in between! This final installment in the series earns 5 stars!
MY TEASE…
Gabe Gantry was condemned to The Nine, the worst level in hell. But his eternal existence is more than dodging fire and brimstone. He works for an elite and secretive division of the Judas Agency, going “Topside” on Earth to counteract some of the agency’s most heinous offenses.
But things have changed in the land of the living, and the stakes could not be higher.
Three of the four Horsemen are on Earth wreaking their specialized havoc. With Pestilence, War, and Famine on the loose, there’s not much left to save on the planet.
The only good news is that Death, the most powerful Horsemen of all, hasn’t emerged yet.
Make no mistake, the clock is ticking. And when all four Horsemen converge and their mantles are joined, the apocalypse for humankind will be inevitable and irrevocable.
Adding to the hopelessness, Judas Iscariot (The Agency’s top leader) has forbidden Gabe and his sidekicks (Alex and Quack) to interfere. Interference, according to Judas, would have even graver repercussions.
Of course, Gabe has always had trouble following orders.
Will his disobedience bring final ruin or save the day?
THOUGHTS…
I really enjoyed the different vibes woven together in this book!
Lighthearted Fun:
For starters, Gabe’s soul has been bonded with a duck named Quack. It still felt a little silly in the beginning of this installment, but once again, it wasn’t long before I got re-attached to Quack, much like I bonded with Starfox in Guardians of the Galaxy. Bottomline, the banter and humor in this book, especially from Quack, were great!
Thought-Provoking:
Without ever being preachy, the book touches on some important think-abouts, like how we as humans treat one another and the planet. And how forgiveness is the ultimate healer of wounds.
Adventure and Heart Stomping Action:
Loved the action! How about…
“A mass of humans rolled in like a muddy wave, slow and deliberate and not at all moving in a human-like fashion. The bodies shifted and roiled, appearing and disappearing in and among one another as the tide advanced.”
Wow!
QUICKFIRE RATINGS from 1 (ugh) to 5 (woo-hoo)…
Plot (the story): 5 Main character’s likability: 5 Development of supporting character(s): 5 Settings/Atmosphere: 5 Pacing (how fast did I turn the pages): 4 Believability (in the context of the story): 4 Satisfying ending: 5 Tension of the story: 4 Stirs the heart (romantic elements): 3+ Cover Design: 5
OVERALL:
FINAL RUIN hits all the notes! I highly recommend this series and the final installment!
Final Ruin The Judas Files book 5 By C.G. Harris I am mad at myself for waiting so long to read this. This series is one of my favorites. Fantasy, smart, hilarious, witty, and a bit dark at times. It has excellent characters, great world building and unique situations. Love the ending of this novel. Start with book one!
I love all five books in The Judas Files. Final Ruin is a satisfying conclusion to Gabe's struggles as a double agent for Judas Iscariot in Hell. Gabe's job is to sabotage evil attempts to sow discord and disaster Topside, some of them planned by his own partner. It's tough, because he has a secret thing for this beautiful woman. Ah well, after Gabe recovers from being recycled, Gabe and Alex confront their greatest challenge yet. The Four Horsemen have appeared and the destruction of mankind seems imminent.
If you like dark stories with a load of grim and sarcastic humor, I think you'll like this series. I do recommend that you read the books in order so you don't miss anything along the way.
I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of Final Ruin in exchange for an honest review. I loved it. I had already read the other books in the series and enjoyed the writing, the world of The Nine, and especially the characters. Final Ruin contains action and thrills and an ending that works really well.
