Pulled me in but went a different direction than expected
Some tough subjects, loss of a child and Katrina survivor. Her anger and grief, the need to start over, and her overwhelming desire to see and talk with her child are all understandable. However, her treatment of her husband and lack of empathy and disregard of his feelings was mean, even selfish. The first book was really good. Her newfound gift and the trials of coming to terms with it and helping solve the old murders was intriguing. Book two wasn't as good but I could still sympathize with her after some of her family interactions. Book three went off the rails a little. We jumped from psychic to witches and angels. And Viola really needs to listen to people who care about her and stop risking her life to "evolve". Not when it means listening to a crazy person harming others.
Definitely had some interesting mysteries and the historical aspects were enlightening.
