The Player

Rate this book
It was a game. She was the price. But suddenly, the rules have changed...

My buddies and I have played this big game a hundred times.

Pick a chick. Bang the chick. Move on.

I’m the undisputed king of this contest.

I never strike out.

So, when this gorgeous business lawyer named Alisha strolled into my latest playground – a hospital fundraiser of all things - I knew I’d get her.

And I did.

Except for this time. I walked away from the wager with something I never bargained for:

Feelings.

I don’t do love. I’ve been burnt. But for Alisha, I can’t help but let my guard down.

I knew I was taking a gamble.

What I didn’t know was that when the truth about our first night comes out, it might just destroy us both.

Fate has turned the tables on me and in this sick game I’m not in control.

The question is … once the dust settles, will I emerge as the victor? Or lose everything?

**** This is a standalone novel with a touch of steam and HEA. ****

Nice HEA, but...

The story was nice. The writing style was different, a good different... the billionaire series are so overdone. I liked the characters’ backstories and the good build on them. 2 issues, My two issues, I feel once a book goes on grammatical error (retreading for clarity is annoying); and the second, mid-way in the story the main character reveals something, then like 3 chapters later totally states they are happy they did not reveal a secret. At that point I wanted to stop reading, but my reader curiosity would not let me. I enjoyed the book mostly, but those 2 things knocked its rating to three stars. I may read something else by this author, but if I see the same writing trend, then I’m done. I know no one is perfect, but that is what editors are for.

It Was So So

Once again…edit, edit , edit. Editing is a part of good writing. This could have been a good book if the writer had an editor. First the best friend of the heroine’s name was mixed up twice, the writer wrote every scene out with too many details, and she forgot she would writing something on page and then change it on another. For example, the hero told his two best friends a huge detail and then several pages later said thank goodness they didn’t know. This happen several times in the book. Pay for a bloody editor please!

Alisha and Hunter - Family

Great book. I enjoyed the ups and downs of Alisha and Hunter’s life and how it really brought them together. SPOILER ALERT: Hunter had to speak to his father after all those years of no communication and he accidentally let the situation with Alisha slip out in front of her mom.
The one problem I had was that Tony seemed to have disappeared from Hunter’s life even though they were business partners.

A reluctant 4, the characters were promising but fell somewhat flat. It’s disappointing when players like Hunter, West and Tony get off with very little consequences for their actions.

Why was West so easily forgiven when all three engaged in the same toxic behaviour? It didn’t make sense that Alisha would give West such a reprieve.

Rather I would have liked to have seen that H/W/T got a taste of their own medicine while Alisha maintained her dignity and power.

Good

I liked it, I kinda wished the extra event at the end didn't happen, but it was a good nonfiction with some very real realistic elements. It was easy to picture myself in the situation. I recommend.

Look who got played

Hunter thought that he would hit it and quit but he didn't know that Alisha was the real thing the match to his flame.
The saying goes don't play with matches you will get burn.🔥

Love is the biggest play!

The games men play with women have been around for ages, but when love comes along into the mix, it ups the game. If there is baggage somewhere in this mix, then you can have hurt feelings and misunderstandings galore. When the love is real on both sides, then you work through these things to get to the other side. Getting to the other side, with the love still intact or stronger, means getting closer to your happily ever after!

Good Story

This story follows the betting trope. Friends bet on which one will be able to seduce a girl at a party. Hunter went along as usual.. even though he knew Alisha was special. What will happen when she finds out that their relationship started as a bet? The last half of the book was awesome... once that secret was out in the open....whewwwwww
