Annabelle hasn't had the best of lives, living with her abusive adoptive family, who treated her more like a slave than someone to care for. One day, she finally builds up the courage to escape and runs for her life, but when she crossed into Crescent Moon territory and meets Alpha Jax her life is going to completely turn upside down.
Secrets will be revealed, not only about herself but also about what happened to her parents who disappeared all those years ago.
The reason why I randomly decided to jump into The Alpha and his Mate was because I was really in the mood for some werewolf romance. Not exactly sure why but not disappointed either. so, when I came across this on KU, eh, I figured why the hell not.
In this, you will meet Annabelle. At first, I wasn't a huge fan of hers because she just seemed really weak and fragile. Don't get me wrong, she was also in a pretty shitty and very abusive situation. I just had way too many questions and not a lot of information. It also didn't help that we knew basically nothing about her until she finally ran away from those horrible people.
I'm sure it was beyond scary to shift into an animal you never knew existed. On top of that? She found her mate... whatever that is. It was honestly a lot of her to process and she was suspicious of every single person around her. At one point, it felt too good to be true but all she wanted was to never return back to that horrible home again.
Enter Jax, the mate. He came on a little strong in the beginning and definitely needed to simmer down a bit. I get it, he's an Alpha but he wasn't an asshole - so that helped. He seemed very protective of her instantly and always told her she was safe. I'm sure it was hard for him to hear and see what she went through but in my mind? I just wanted to know why she was even tortured to begin with.
So many clues and pieces of information just weren't making sense. I couldn't see the bigger picture until it was finally shoved into my dumb face. Besides these two slowly being acquainted with one another, we do get some action towards the end of this book. It was pretty short though and I really wanted a bigger battle.
In the end, they are living their best lives together and creating one big happy family.
I guess this was popular on wattpad, so I thought I’d check it out. It’s written well, I just wasn’t feeling it. I prefer my wattpad reads to be more drama driven/soapy and this was a smidge bland.
The blurb sets this up. It opens with Annabelle being raised in an abusive situation. She flees, runs into her mate Jax, and the rest is him trying to get her to accept him and her shifter-ness.
He’s sweet and understanding, she’s fragile… no drama… no action. I’m bored.
Bottom Line- Fifteen or so years ago, I might have enjoyed this. Jax is the swoony type of besotted Book BF I used to like to read about… but now I like feels, drama, bitchy wannabe OW, and assholes. 😊
I know I’ve stated this before but this time I mean it from the bottom of my heart : this is probably one of the worst book I’ve ever read in my entire life. Not because of the usual reasons (don’t like the characters, the writing style etc).
No.
This book is pointless.
Like, I’m so confused, what was the point of this ? There’s nothing remotely interesting about this, everything and everyone is bland af, the plot is the most confusing one I’ve read to date, everything is so odd.
It felt and read very amateurish.
There’s literally no point to this book. None whatsoever. 0 stars, worthless read.
The author should go to jail for this. I’ll never read anything else by her again. Damn it, I’ve been fooled again by the 5 stars reviews on Amazon.
I’m not usually that harsh, and I apologize but I’m appalled by this “book”.
Annabelle ran away from her emotional and physical abusive adoptive parents into Jax‘s territory. The whole story was about Jax making Annabelle feel safe and comfortable with him. She knew nothing about wolf shifters, mates or packs. There was no physical desire for each other. Their relationship was based on making her feel that she belonged and she was safe. I started skimming through the book after she secretly turned herself in to their enemies without Jax’s consent. In the epilogue, I didn’t like her stubbornness and attitude towards her mate. I guess this was her supposedly growing into a Luna role (Alpha’s mate).
When I first read the Alpha and his Mate was on Wattpad and I absolutely loved this story. I’m so happy that B E has now published it. Alpha is such a wonderful love story between Alpha Jax and Annabelle. She went through a terrible time growing up but managed to escape and run right into the arms of her true mate. If you haven’t read this story yet you need to. You will love it too !
Every chapter had WHILST!! Whilst I was reading I realized that whilst was in every chapter, sometimes two or three times. Whilst that’s not necessarily annoying it just really brought me out of the book to again realize an old outdated way of writing and talking was being used. Whilst the initial first part of this book held my attention it lagged and frankly stopped working for me….The origin of werewolves story was interesting but overall blah 😒
I really enjoyed this well written shifter romance. Jax was the perfect counterpart to Annabelle. Although I like multiple POV's, I dislike when they are almost the same and reuse previous dialogue. Tell use their feelings from what just happened instead.
This maybe aimed at Y/A but the trigger scenes are most definitely adult, which makes this a weird strange read. Why say it's a clean story?? Just because there is no smut doesn't mean it's clean, those triggers are nothing to scoff at.
From what I've gathered these shifters have a human life span. There are no dominance battles, you are a black wolf = Alpha, end of. From what I understand the Alpha should be the most dominant wolf in a pack. When the other "enemy" Alpha tries to get on their pack land our Alphas bark does nothing. He called every wolf even the ones who are not warriors, for a 1 Alpha and 4 warriors!!!! So all the "I will protect you" had me thinking... How exactly when the other Alpha is more dominant than you.
Anyway moving on to my frustration.. Annabelle, our heroine could easily tell them where she came from. Tell someone about finding out her parents names, simple things that would move this story along. The not talking to anyone thing got old real quick. She had more of a backbone in captivity. Don't get me started on her constant "I want to know and see" business, why keep pushing to terrify herself.
I commend the author for writing a non smutty book, the themes however should match. Can't write about almost SA and constant assault, then the most the main characters do is hold hands... Annabelle is not a child due to her life experience, if anything she needs serious therapy. Already we see her people pleasing wrapping around Jason, that is not healing her trauma, if he looks or sounds upset she goes with what he wants.
Jason is pushing this mate bond thing and let's all be honest, mating doesn't happen by holding hands.
Annabelle lost her parents and was placed in the care of a deplorable family. She has kept her head down and done everything she has been asked, despite her efforts they abuse her every chance they get. When an encounter becomes too much she flees running for her life only to end up in Crescent Moon pack territory. She has no clue she is a shifter, but Alpha Jax knows she is his mate. Secrets are revealed about Annabelle and what she thought she knew about her past is about to be revealed.
I enjoyed this one quite a bit. I liked how the story unfolded and you saw the growth in Annabelle. Entertaining story, would definitely read more from this author.
Annabelle grew up in an abusive household, one day she builds up the courage to run away when she crosses into the crescent moon territory and meets Alpha Jax and doesn’t realize that her world is about to do a 360.
This was so sweet, I loved how doting Jax was the moment he laid his eyes on her. He was so patient before he even understood the abuse that she endured. The devil works hard but Jay works harder on getting his mates trust and helping her heal when she feels overwhelmed. The only downside was that there were a couple povs that felt repetitive from the previous chapter.
I'm a sucker for fated mates so I was excited to get to this. The beginning started off good and had me hooked. However, it soon became a bit predictable. I hate how always seems to come down to the FMC attempting to sacrifice herself to fix everything.
Besides that, where was the romance?! That's what I'm reading this for. While Jax was sweet and really worked around her trauma, there was nothing here but cuddling and forehead kisses. I needed more than that.
While this wasn't the worst thing I ever read, I won't be picking up the next book in this series.
The FMC is an infantilised trauma victim who is apparently catnip to the MMC, even though she’s a blithering idiot who constantly puts herself in danger, by forgetting about that whole trauma backstory and behaving out of character. Then there’s the inability of any character to open a door, all doors must be flung open with great force. There is a story there, but it’s as mangled as the characterisations and would have benefited from having a good editor beat it into shape.
Beware, lots of abuse. This is a new author for me. There was some swearing but not excessive and no F bombs. Sometimes the it was a bit wordy but overall enjoyable. I’ll try one more and see how it goes like it.
Une lecture très sympathique, même si très clichée, mais finalement c’est exactement ce que je recherchais sur le moment donc ça a fait le taf pour moi 😌 Cœur de lecture 💙
2.5/5 I wanted something quick and easy to read this weekend and this was suggest to me on Kindle Unlimited. The writing was kind of sloppy with some grammar/spelling mistakes and it was pretty clunky. The plot was pretty predictable. Overall, it was just fine.
Spoilers: Annabelle has been in an abusive household since she was 7. She has to do everything in that house and she has scars as proof of her physical abuse. One night just as she’s about to be sexually abused she manages to escape. She doesn’t stop running until her body gives up. She experienced her first shift without being aware of it. She is assumed a rogue and the Alpha is made aware of her sudden appearance. When Jax gets there he finds out she is his mate. The one person made just for him. I loved Jax. 🥰 He is the most patient man when he understands the abuse Annabelle has suffered. He works so hard to help her heal and not overwhelm her with his feelings. Jax’s beta tries to find out more about Annabelle’s past and discovers she is moon blessed. She has a direct line to the moon goddess. Her old pack has had her under control so she doesn’t know anything about her heritage. Annabelle finds out her parents are alive and imprisoned by her old Alpha. She is asked to trade herself for their freedom. She hands herself over and is betrayed again as Mathew the new Alpha wants her to sever her bond with Jax. He the holds her parents hostage too until she agrees. Jax finds Annabelle before the bond is broken and is finally able to rescue her and complete the mate / Luna ceremony. And they lived Happily Ever After… with lots of love 💗 The flow of the story was a bit slow but it was just right. Annabelle was in no condition to be rushed.
Condescending alpha who calls his mate things like little mate and little angel and a weak idiot heroine who is too stupid to live. Not romantic, not interesting, it just got worse and worse until it made me so mad I couldn't continue it. I hate stories where the heroine makes stupid mistakes just so the author can continue an already shoddy plot. Formulaic and unoriginal as well. Don't waste your time with this author.
Did you ever get caught reading those stories that come through in tick tok and suddenly get sucked in, just for them to say subscribe to this online site and you can read the rest? Well now you have a just as exciting book as anything I have seen randomly cross my interwebs viewing. Best of all it’s clean, complete and has a ending that makes all the turmoil worth while!
Book was ehh , drawn out like crazy and filler that weren’t needed , prolonging thoughts . Like I said drawn out . Also spelled color , like colour and I thought to myself just a typo until I looked up the word in the book and I was in there 47 times spelled the same . Main character was weak and the people who abused her didn’t get what they deserved.
The plot was only ok, but the fmc recovered way too quick for someone who had dealt with years of abuse. Also, this was a werewolf book right? Where was the spice??
I read 80% of this book and did not even want to finish it . Poorly written. Errors galore. Author can't spell or use even rudimentary grammar. I wrote down author's name to be sure I NEVER accidentally try to read one of her books again.
I gave this book a one star so I can voice my opinion..... Worthless it had no flow or kept in the need and want to continue reading... Will not recommend
