Fix Me

Rate this book
He wants a second chance. She wants a second life.

I have a confession to make.
My sister died because of me.
Because I kissed her boyfriend, Mason. Because my betrayal broke Violet’s heart and ultimately her desire to live. And what do you do if the guilt devours you? You run.
So, I left my past and teenage crush behind me, moved away, and continued to pursue my surfing career.
Three years later, I learn that he moved here, too.
Okay, don’t panic. It’s not as if we’re neighbors. Doctor Mason Glover’s rehab center is fifty miles away. A safe distance to keep him out of my sight, mind, and heart.

But fate has a cruel twist in store for me. The life-destroying kind, where you wake up in the hospital, unable to move your damn legs. My bones are shattered, just like my dream of ever riding a wave again.
Mason thinks he can get me back on my feet, pushing me to give his rehab training a chance.
But let’s be realistic: Success rate of physical therapy—one percent. Success rate of suicide—a safe bet… if I can heave my crippled limbs up and jump out the window, that is.
I’ll give it a shot. Violet, here I come.

Talk about hitting you in the gut! I have truly enjoyed this series and getting to know all the characters. But this story of Mason and Sky did something to me and I am not sure how to explain. Maybe it’s because I feel like all young girls have a crush on someone older at one point in their teenage years that this can hit closer to home than other stories. Because of an unfortunate incident when Sky was 17, she lost an older sister and blamed Mason. Her heart was broken and she couldn’t stand the thought of the man who killed her sister. Sky was tough, feisty and stronger than she realized.

3 years later paths cross and truths come out. Will Sky ever be able to forgive Mason for his role is her sister’s death? Will Sky ever be able to forgive herself? Young love, passion, determination and being strong enough to step up and help out those who need it will have you reading this in one sitting! Tears were shed, revelations and friendships made me love this story even more. I cannot wait to see what the next book offers!

This is the second of the Florida Flowers stories that I have read and both of them have been very different but outstanding. The Florida Flowers are a group of girls living together all with unique stories. Fix Me is a forbidden romance between Skylar the competitive surfer and Mason the guy she blames for her sister Violet's death.

This is a angsty heartbreaking story of unrequited love, heartbreak, guilt and blame that kept me engrossed until the end. I felt immense sympathy for both characters as this was an impossible situation that might never be resolved. When Skylar has a life changing accident while competitive surfing and Mason risks his life to save her she has no choice but to accept his offer for a place at his physical rehabilitation clinic if she has a chance of reaching her dreams to be a professional surfer.

You have to cheer for Skylar because of her determination to get back to full health but I am glad that she softened her anger against Mason enough to realise that he was in love with her and would do anything for her. Poor Mason doing his best to remain professional while treating the woman he was longing to get closer to. It was beautiful seeing their feelings for each other build slowly and the secrets that had been hidden for so long were revealed giving them chance for a future.

Another notable character is the story is Pauline Skylar's competitor, while she seems unlikeable at first you have to feel sorry for her as she has to live under her mother's thumb and do things that she doesn't want to only redeeming herself right by doing something that was surprising but the right thing at the end.

After enjoying this book so much I will have to go back and read the other ones that I have missed.

Age gap, forbidden lovers romance

I got into Elodie’s writing with her Six Silent Sins series. Fix Me is the first book I’ve read in her Florida Flowers series; after this wonderful read, I’ll be going back to read the first 3 books in the series to catch up on the previous stories that were alluded to in this book.

Skylar is chasing her dreams to become a sponsored professional surfer; Mason is a doctor who specializes in rehabilitation. The two, with a 10 year age gap, have a past that neither of them can shake. When Skyla has a surfing accident that leaves her partially paralyzed, Mason’s rehab center and experience come in handy.

This heart-wrenching and heartwarming book makes you feel all the feels from start to end. Guilt and grief, love and lust, hopelessness and hopefulness, anger and bliss.

The throwbacks in this book are expertly done; I don’t always love when a book switches between the present and the past, but this book has done it masterfully.

A definite win for this author!

Some books evoke feelings, some others bring back memories, but when one book gives you both you know you have found a gem.

I have to admit, this series has been absolutely beautiful and crazy, but nothing could have prepared me for this book. When I was a kid I fell in love with the ocean and when I was a teen I fell in love with a surfer, and this book transported me back in time, when life was easy and dreams seemed possible. I was lucky enough to learn about the life of a surfer, the commitment, the passion for the ocean, the unbelievable connection between a surfer and their waves. This book represents all that.

I love how Elodie treated surfing as a real sport, because for most, surfing is not considered something "serious", but a phase. Sky's personality is raw and real, and Mason is just perfect for her, a match made in heaven.

This is not your common age gap book, this is a heartwarming, breathtaking and perfectly written love story. Highly recommended for those who love the ocean, for those who love a perfect love story and for those who once believed.

Skyla has dedicated her life to her sport, surfing. She also blames herself for the accident that killed her sister. Mason is ten years older than Sky and was the boyfriend of her sister that died. The two forged a friendship when Sky was a teen and they remained friends although both felt an attraction, they knew it was wrong. After the accident, guilt and anger separated them. Three years later they find themselves in the same city and Mason can't stay away. Tragedy strikes again and Mason is there to rescue Sky and they begin to rebuild their friendship and then finally acknowledge their feelings. This was a bit of a slow start, it got into the weeds of surfing a bit too much for this Midwest girl, but once things got going between the H and h, things sped up. Lots of feels, not much steam, with a sweet HEA.

Saving the best for last? Quite possibly! All of the books in this series have been amazing and I think this one might just be the best of them!

Skyla and Mason’s story is definitely a love story for the ages. Their love was not easy, nor painless. It was filled with heartache, forbidden desire, and even destruction. Yet it was still beautiful.

Mason’s love and faith in Skyla was unshakable. Skyla’s strength and resilience was astounding!

I have to say that I wasn’t expecting Pauline to do what she did at the end. Nor did I see what Skylar did with her parents coming. In both of those cases…a standing slow clap!!

loved every single word of this story and am sad that the series is ending!.

MASON AND SKYLA

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Mason has had a thing for Skyla since she was thirteen. He hooked up with her sister so he could be around her. When Skyla turned seventeen, she kissed Mason and he broke up with her sister, Violet, who later died in a car accident that same night. This story is filled with self-recrimination, self-loathing, and deep-seated love. I like the way Mason stayed and protected Skyla and risked his life to save her. This story had scenes that I re-read because of how much they touched me. I give Ms. Colt an excellent on her writing skills for this story.

Mason knew Skyla was special, but she was way too young. Now she's seriously injured by a rogue wave. At his rehab center, he pushes her, both physically and emotionally, to move past her injuries and get her back on a surfboard. As adults, they're a great couple, perfect together despite their flaws. I almost felt sorry for Pauline early in the book... Nope. She's as big a piece of crap as her mother. This beautiful book is an amazing story of forbidden love all grown up, a tale of forgiveness of self and others, of two kindred souls fixing each other. Skyla has a crush on her sister's (Violet) boyfriend Mason, who is ten years older than her. After Violet's death, that Skyla believes is her fault, she moves away to continue her passion, surfing. In a surfing accident Mason saves her, Skyla is injured both physically and emotionally. Will Skyla and Mason get together? Love how the story is presented, the past and the present. Great character building and interaction. An emotionally charged story.

This is the first I have read from the author and I am hooked. The writing is so filled with angst it draws you in. Skyla blames herself for her sister's death ad she kissed her boyfriend. She leaves to pursue surfing and get away from the death and Mason. Uears later she is injured and ends up in the same rehab hospital that Mason is at. Coincidence or Fate? Read tobsee how it goes.

Second chance age gap romance...
The story's been covered in the blurb & previous reviews so I won't focus on that. I quickly got invested in this amazing journey that had me running the gamut of emotions from low to high & I was vacillating about the guilty feelings. A fairly new to me author so I'm looking forward to reading the first three books in this series. I received an arc & this is my honest & voluntary review.

Elodie has saved the best till last Skyla and Mason's story is one that will last the ages. Their love was forbidden, filled with heartache, pain and destruction. Yet through every painful turn their story will suck you in, pluck your heart strings and grab hold of your soul.

Throughout everything Mason's love and dedication to Sklyar was unparalleled. Skyla has a strength and determination that will remind you what resilience really is.

Their love will inspire you.

The first part of the book was good and I got sucked into the emotions of it all. However, there were a couple of unnecessary twists added towards the end. I also had some questions about Mason's practice. Finally, the ending was a bit much with so much drama culminating at once. I was also underwhelmed with Skyla's trajectory in the final couple of chapters.

I love this series but this book is my fave yet.
Violet and Mason have that meant to be vibe and as much as they try to avoid it the universe refuses to accept it and they are thrown together time and time again.

I noticed a pattern with this writer: she takes her time dragging the story, adds last minute unnecessaries then violá- HEA.
