True Platinum #2

Winning Nia

Rate this book
I don't need a rockstar to be my knight in shining armour. Especially one who already had his chance.

My first love broke my heart when I was sixteen. James Tyler was everything I’d ever wanted, until he up and left. That’s what I get for falling for a musician whose plans for world domination never included me.

My second love, photography, would never let me down.

Or so I thought until I discovered that making it as a music photographer is a lot harder in reality than in my dreams – and my savings account can only take a beating for so long until I have to swallow my pride and start grovelling to my arrogant, estranged father.

And if things couldn’t get any worse, James is back…

Arriving with a job offer I shouldn’t refuse, and a confession big enough to send shockwaves through the past, he throws my entire life upside down. But I don’t care how successful his band is or that he insists I’m the one for him. If he thinks I forgive him tossing me aside ten years ago, he’s got another thing coming.

To anyone else, James is a second chance wrapped in muscle and black ink. Too bad for him, I’ve never believed in second chances.

Winning Nia is a full length steamy rock star romance. It is the second book following the Rhiannon men and the second in the True Platinum Series. Can be read as a standalone. If you love obsessed rock stars, determined independent heroines who want to solve their own problems and childhood sweethearts getting a second chance, then Winning Nia is for you.

Without the filter of a lens, the world seemed so stark.

The story begins with Nia, a music photographer, getting ready for a band photography audition. She studied finance in order to please her father but finally decided that it wasn't what she wanted and dropped it about six months back. Despite going against her father's wishes while believing that she will be successful in this industry, she can barely scrape by with the money she earns. All these facts make her nervous about the audition for she has to get it if she has any hope at all to stabilize her career. While chatting with a woman named Alys(the heroine of the first book in the True Platinum series), who said she was present on behalf of the manager, the band (for which she is auditioning for) enters and SURPRISE,SURPRISE,SURPRISE it's Rhiannon, her ex-boyfriend's band.
James, the guitarist of Rhiannon (a major rising Welsh band) was also Nia's boyfriend about ten years ago before he suddenly ghosted her. Seeing him after such a long time broached the anger that had died gradually over the years even as she realized that she still cared for him. Days after the audition, she still thought about James and 'the job'.

I needed the job. My pride screamed at me not to turn it down, but how could I accept and remain sane? Working with him day in and day out would hurt too much. There would be no hiding from the past, and I knew myself, there was no way I could avoid reliving the agony of our breakup. It wouldn’t make for a healthy work environment.

This book explores the second chance romance between Nia and James after a gap of ten years.

Why do you think James broke up with her ten years ago if he's asking her for a second chance now?
Will his reason make or break them apart?

What are you waiting for? Go ahead and start reading it😜💖

This is a first for me by this author and a very angsty one!

This story is told through first person point of view and just through Nia’s. I would’ve loved to see James point of view on things but overall it was a great story!

Nia and James haven’t seen each other in 10 years. Their reunion isn’t a warm one and James is going to do everything he can to make up for those years because he wants Nia back!

I loved the dynamics of the girls and their friendship and I am interested to see what happens with Mel and Danny! It’s a great group I just wish I got to see more from the hero’s perspective.

Nia loves photographing rock stars, but she knows she’ll never want to be with one again, not after Rhiannon guitarist James Tyler broke her heart all those years ago. Now it’s ten years later, and James is back and determined to make Nia his again. And If Nia’s honest, she never quite lost feelings for the handsome rock star. Stuck in turmoil, Nia must decide if she’s willing to risk her heart again.

I absolutely adore rock star romances, and Morgana Bevan is quickly cementing herself as one of my favorite rockstar romance authors. This story was amazingly written and agonizingly angsty. James had incredible character growth, I loved that he didn’t keep making the same mistakes over and over again; he learned from them instead.

James. He’s made mistakes, but I really think he does his best to make up for them and especially prove to Nia that he won’t hurt her again. Nia. She’s stubborn, but she also has a kind and caring nature, and I completely understand why she keeps her heart guarded. Their love story was beautiful. I completely recommend!

I love rockstar romances!!!!

This is the second book in the true platinum series and now we (kind of) dive into the rockstar life of guitarist James Tyler.

Nia gets a blast from the past when her ex boyfriends stumbles back into her life after 10 years apart. You learn about their past relationship back when they were practically kids and then see if they have changed in the here and now.

I love James and Nia together. There is something about their chemistry that makes my heart so happy and you can’t help but want to swoon!! You will definitely feel some emotions when reading this book & I wouldn’t have it any other way!! I wish we got a little more answers about Nias relationship with her family and the reasoning behind some of the decisions that were made (especially her Dad).

Side note, I am DYING for the next book to see Dan and Mel’s relationship. You see snippets of it in this book and it is as definitely peaked my interest!

Spice: 🌶

Tropes:
Second chance romance
Rockstar romance

Another ARC from NetGalley and courtesy of C Bevan Publishing! I really loved this book!! Who doesn’t love a rockstar romance, especially when the rockstar goes above and beyond to win back his girl? This book is the second in the True Platinum series but the first I read from this author. It does great as a standalone book, and a good introduction to the author and the series if you read them out of order like I did. I thought this book was charming, funny, and an easy read. It was easy to get lost in the words and forget that I was reading.

This book contains the following tropes: rockstar romance, my best friend’s brother, second chances.

Nia is a very talented music photographer that auditions for her dream job, only to find it is photographing her ex’s band. Not only did he shatter her heart and ghost her 10 years prior, but he’s the only man she’s ever truly loved. She thought she was over her feelings until she sees him again. James Tyler does all he can to demonstrate how serious his feelings are for Nia and how he wants her back. Will she allow herself to trust James again?

I really liked this book but I wish we could have had a dual POV to know what James was thinking and his motivations for how he acted in certain scenes. I love Nia’s truly wholesome friendships with Mel and Sophie. I wish Nia had communicated better with James when he returned instead of ignoring and avoiding him, but I get that she was trying to maintain her distance from him. Overall, a great read and I look forward to more from this author!

This is my second book that I have read by Morgana Bevan and I absolutely loved it! This is a another amazing Rockstar romance, add in the second chance component and you get an amazing story. James & Nia have a past that ended with heartbreak & they have so much of their past to work through. It makes for a great story.

If you love a good Rockstar romance then this is definitely one to check out.

Nine years ago, Nia’s childhood sweetheart, James, ghosted her after setting off to pursue his dreams of becoming a rockstar. Now he’s made a success of himself and is back, with his band offering Nia a contract to be their official photographer. He’s made it clear that he wants a second chance to repair his relationship with Nia, but is she ready to trust him again?

I really, really enjoyed reading this book. It is very readable and engaging - I found it hard to stop reading it, I just wanted to plough on and eventually did just that. It was also lovely to see a novel set in Wales! I could really visualise it in the story and the Welshness really shone through for all of the characters and it made such a refreshing change.

I really liked Nia’s voice: it was really distinct and I found her a very sympathetic character. The angst in this story worked very well for me; it was gentle, for the most part, but there were some parts I found really gut-wrenching and I liked how fiercely Nia stuck to her guns and made it clear how James’ past actions had affected her. The love scenes were also very well-written.

However, I have to say that I really struggled with James’ character. I sort of warmed to him by the time the novel had finished, but I would have liked a bigger grovel on his part and it would have been nice if he had been more understanding of Nia’s perspective. Sometimes he came across almost wilfully obtuse about the pain he had caused. As a result I struggled to root for their relationship for parts of this book, but I’m genuinely really impressed with how much the author made me care despite this, and that I ended up really loving the book overall. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a second-chance, rockstar romance set in Wales / the UK.

If I enjoyed this book so much with the reservations I had about a central character and the romance, I can’t wait to dive into the other book this author has written. I’m looking forward to seeing where the series goes and going back to the first book in the series, too. I want to thank the author and Netgalley for providing a free copy of this book. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I am a sucker for second chance romances, throw in a British rockstar then I’m in heaven! Winning Nia gave me everything I needed in this genre and so much more.

Winning Nia is the second book in Morgana’s True Platinum Series and follows the journey of Nia and James. Picking up 10 years after their breakup, Nia and James battle their way through forgiveness and once again learning to trust one another.

Can love conquer all? That is the question and I have to say that while James was a complicated character, he certainly tried his best to win back Nia and gain her forgiveness for this past mistakes.

Seeing your first love is never easy and Nia certainly thought she was over James but when they thrown into situations and through James’s determination to win Nia back you see her defences start to fall and her heart to open up to the possibility of allowing James back in.

Together, I enjoyed the characters and their journey in rekindling their love. Love is never easy and these two provided that if you willing to forgive and grow from mistakes then love can happen again and in the same place. James and Nia’s chemistry was there from the first meeting to their last, I found myself laughing at their witty banter and seeing my nerves rise when seeing their struggles played out on the pages.

Overall, this for me was a great read and a fantastic addition to the series. We are also introduced to secondary characters which I’m hoping will take center stage as the series develops.

Nia Thomas was about to go to an audition for a band that would launch her career further as a freelance photographer. She had no idea the band was Rhiannon, and that her ex-boyfriend James Tyler, the guy she loved but who had hurt her, would be at the audition.

Is Nia willing to forgive James? Will they be able to reignite their love and passion?

A second chance romance that drew me in right away. Nia and James had to overcome obstacles in order to move forward.

I was captivated by their love story. Nia and James's sexual attraction was both visible and magnetic. Their bodies yearn to be touched, but Nia is adamant a second chance might not happen.

I felt the characters were well-written, believable, had strong core values, and they were portrayed in such a way that I could picture the conversations, hear the music, and believe in a second chance at love.

Morgana Bevan and her writing style always leaves me wanting more, she never disappoints her readers. Without a doubt some of the best books I've read. This book was fantastic and did not disappoint. I highly recommend this series.

Thank you to Morgana Bevan for sending me an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Readers caught a glimpse of Rhiannon's guitarist James in Chasing Alys, Bevan's first installment in the series and I'm so glad he got his own book. His and Nia's relationship spanned over an emotional rollercoaster of a decade plus a few years. Both of them were trying to figure out their dreams and I really enjoyed the way they came back together. I did think both characters were incredibly stubborn at times but it was part of the overall charm. I love the rock band and musician focus along with Nia's dream of being a music photographer. Photography is one of my favorite things and I really like seeing it as a career choice in books. This was sweet with a teensy bit of spice and I liked the progression of the book. I'm looking forward to seeing the way the other band members will have their own love stories.

This book overall wasn’t a bad read. I enjoyed Nia and James. They were wonderful characters individually. I appreciate how the aminositiy is still there and it is realistic. However, the first couple chapters of them meeting were really good and hot, but a little all over the place. I felt that some of the places where James begged for forgiveness he didn’t grovel enough. But, that didn’t mean that he is awesome.

I enjoyed NIa. She is really flushed out. Her character took little to get used to, but I loved that she went after her true passion of photography. She really shined and she showed it throughout the book. I also liked James. He is good, but his immaturity was what made me dislike him a little. His intentions are wonderful, but the execution was a bit flat.

Nonetheless, I really liked the rockstar group and band. I loved how Nia and James grew. They really were meant for each other. At the end you saw it. I do recommend you check out this book.

Winning Nia is the second book in the true platinum series. It is a second chance, rockstar, steamy love story.

I personally LOVE the second chance trope, Nia auditions for her ex boyfriends band as a photographer. Nia is holding onto a lot of resentment and anger.

We see both character grow in this story, we see some old favourite and get even more back story for other members of the band.

I love the family aspect for Nia I do however wish we got alittle more to chapters with her dad and brother. The conflict was a huge part of the story but came and ended very fast.

I cannot wait to read the rest of this series.

Winning Nia, A Rock Star Romance, True Platinum Series book 2, Morgana Bevan

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre: General Fiction, Romance

Well, I have a real weakness for fame/romance trope, and this one set in the UK, and being a second chance one seemed a great fit for me.

The settings were very real, I felt there with the characters, enjoyed the behind the scenes look at their lives. I wanted to know a bit more about Nia's father and brother, they were a major force in the story but we didn't really know much about them.
I loved Nia's friends, was intrigued by the Mel/Dan slant and expect that's a story to come that will be interesting. The writing was good, not one of those with Alpha male, grunting MMCs and simpering FMCs thankfully, with a story told in works of three syllables or less. – there's so many of those. Clearly some folk love them - but not me. I want characters that can think for themselves, make their own decisions, show independence.

James, I found it hard to accept his excuses for the long silence. I accept he was young, and we all make mistakes, but to let it go on so long? If he really felt that way about Nia why didn't he contact before? Ten years is a long time to drop someone and then try to walk back into their life. I found his determination to be with her a little odd given he hadn't seen her for so long. But then I do like a determined lover, so......I think I just wish he'd tried to date her a bit, tried to explain his absence better. He really was a first class jerk leaving her the way he did.
Nia was a talented photographer and I'm glad she went with her heart instead of allowing her father and brother to bully her into the family firm. We only get one life, so we need to try to do what makes us happy. Its not always possible, but if it is, as with Nia, then that chance needs snapping up.
Given how heart broken she was, I thought she let James get away with too much, she should have made him explain more, show he can be different before she trusted him again. I needed to see that he had changed, he was a nice guy, I liked him but what we saw didn't convince me he'd pout Nia first, or at least include her in decisions.

I didn't feel there was enough drama for me here though, not until the last 15-20% or so, when it ratcheted up terrifically. Again though I think she lets James off with what was once again inexcusable behaviour. He hasn't even youth as an excuse this time. Perhaps if this happened much earlier in the story, say at 60-70-% there would have been time to show James was truly remorseful, that he had changed. Nia took a huge risk I felt, even though she stood back for a while. Oddly I felt her reaction to the photography job and its origins was overdone, I could see things like that happening all the while, we do make use of contacts for our careers. I found myself siding with James there.

Stars: Four, a well written story, with believable characters but not enough drama for a five from me.

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
STEAM: 🔥🔥🔥

Sometimes good intentions can lead to huge misunderstandings and drive people apart.

This was the main theme in Nia and James' story. James had broken Nia's heart a while ago right when his band Rhiannon started to make it big. They were inseparable and in love --or so Nia thought -- until James just suddenly ghosted her. Now that she's finally recovered from that heartbreak, he and the band are back in town, and he's doing what he can to get back into her life.

My favorite part of this book is Nia's friendship with Sophie and Mel. I am a stan for ride-or-die friendships, and those three are one of the fictional best. I like Nia because she's strong despite the adversities she has to deal with, including her family and career choices. She stands up for herself, and it's hard not to root for her when she's so fiercely independent and kind.

I struggled a bit with James' redemption arc, and part of it is because this was told from Nia's POV only. Hopefully, we can see more of him and his growth in subsequent books.

This is the second book in Morgana Bevan's True Platinum series, but the book can work as a standalone. Bevan does a great job in highlighting key information from the first book and introducing the characters without overwhelming the readers.

This is book two in The True Platinum Series and it is Nia and James story. Nia and James were high school sweethearts only for James to walk away breaking Nia's heart so photography became her number one priority but then things got really difficult. Ten years later and James has reach stardom with the band but he never forgot Nia so now he is hoping to get a second chance with her and offers her a job but it will take more than this to win Nia back and also she doesn't believe in second chances so James will definitely have to up his game of he is ever going to get a chance to get Nia back but how will be do that but most of all will it work. The chemistry between them was just as strong even after all these years apart but they have many mountains to climb if they ever stand a chance of being together and having a happy ending. I absolutely loved this book and I can't wait to read more in this series. Morgana Bevan is a new author to me but I am really looking forward to reading more of her books in the future.

"Winning Nia" was such a thought provoking second chance romance. Nia is a photographer from Cardiff, who's working aspiration it to solely be a band photographer. Nia's been working at a couple of concert venues and having to do a LOT of weddings to help make ends meet.

Enter James, Nia's lost love, who's a member of the band Rhiannon and trying to get her to become the band's photographer. There's so much that James and Nia have to work through because they were together when they were young and haven't seen each other for 10 years.

What I appreciated about this was that neither Nia or James was perfect but once Nia decided she was in a relationship with James, (he spent quite a bit of the book trying to win her back), she was all in. They really did try to work on communicating and helping each other to process past hurts and actions.

Some of the plot dragged a bit for me, but overall this was an enjoyable book and the band and Nias friends were great and I can't wait to read more about them.

This romance brought together elements that I absolutely love and they were brought together so well. Second chance, rock star ex, photography loving main character, childhood sweethearts, a job offer the main character can't refuse, and a confession that could change everything.

When the only man that Nia truly loved walks back into her life after breaking her heart and ghosting her for a decade her world is flipped upside down. She can't out run the feelings she thought she was over, and the more he fights to get her back the more she sees just how serious his feelings are. But a second chance at romance very well could end in another heart break. Or it could be the best thing that happens for the both of them.

This story was packed with steamy romance, and amazing friendships that mean the world to both Nia and James. This story was told in single first person point of view through Nia, but there were times I wished James would jave had a point of view. But regardless I still really enjoyed this story. Thank you NetGalley for an arc of this book.

Second Chance Rock Romance

Nia had her first love at sixteen but that first love left her heartbroken when he left to become a rock star leaving her behind. Now ten years later Michael has surprisingly showed back up in Nia’s life when she goes to try to nail down a much-needed job as a music photographer. Little does she know that the band just so happens to be Michael’s band.

Nia’s not up to being left behind again no matter what her true feelings are but Michael sees it another way. He will do anything to try to win Nia back.

This is my first book by this author and she made me fall in love with Nia and James. Now I have to go back and read the first book in this series and I can’t wait for the next book to be released.

Nia had her heart broken at 16 when the man she loved left to begin his career in a band. Now, ten years later he's back and she's got a gig as their photographer. Needing the job her pride won't let her back down. But her ex James doesn't intend on leaving her again, and now needs to win her back.

I loved this rock star romance, and the fact that it starts out with heart break rather than having it happen midway through. Nia is a strong character and can hold her own against James. I enjoyed James's character and how he worked on getting Nia back.

The plot was fun and it gave way to a great story, but the pacing was so slow. The build up didn't match the end result and could've been better.

This was a fantastic read! I so felt bad for Nia, but also felt for James - he was immature and did indeed bring on his own heartache himself; but for Nia, she was broken. Ten years later, Nia has gotten on with her life - gone on some dates, but nothing can compare to the love she felt for James; he comes home, and wants to love her again, she sure makes him work for her attention. It's absolutely great to see what hoops he has to jump through, and all of his hard work to earn back her devotion and most importantly her love - with lots of help from the side characters - just loved them too. He pulls out some grand gestures - and hits all the right notes.

I have a soft spot for rockstars as it's my favourite trope.
This is the second book in the true platinum series and I really enjoyed Nia and James's story. James comes back into Nia's life after 10 years apart and I really enjoyed that she didn't forgave him right away, although I would have enjoyed seeing him grovel more (specially in the end). I really loved James and how his love for Nia come through and I loved that Nia was such a strong character. Thhe general pace was a bit slow, but all the side stories were enticing. I honestly can't wait for Mel and Dan's story!!!

This was a fantastic second-chance rockstar romance. I enjoyed the authors development of James and Nia's relationship, the struggle and emotions they experience is real and raw. Nia is a strong woman who struggles with her feelings for James after he comes back into her life. James has to prove that he has grown up and changed to win Nia's trust back. This was a wonderful story and I enjoyed how the author paralled their past relationship to their current relationship.

I loved Nia and James story!! So much is revealed about the other band members in this book. My brain is whirling and I can’t wait for the other stories. Nia went through a lot. Her struggle to make her own way in the world hit home with me. I loved her relationship with James..they loved each other, he was flawed but they were still connected in their friendship with one another. Some times that foundation is all you need. I loved this book.

Rockstar romance between Nia and James. Without giving any spoilers I only marked it 3.75 because I didn’t like James’s story and the things he did and kept doing, Nia too forgiving. Steam was a very good level, I’ve read some crazy steamy stuff so this was a good balance. I liked the fact it was not in US but every time I read bands name I thought of Rihanna.

Second chance romance, turned third chance? Rockstar romance? Childhood friends/sweethearts? All the good things wrapped up nicely in this one!! I love Nia! She learns how to be so strong and knows how to stand up for herself and what she wants! Throw in James and all the rockstar swoon-worthiness?! Be still my heart! Who wouldn’t want the sole attention of a rapidly rising rockstar?!

This series is becoming such an unputdownable land of magic! Too much?! Don’t care! It’s amaze balls!!
