Secret Leto is going stir-crazy in the small town she grew up in. Full of Betas, Silver Lake is the safest place for an Omega in hiding, but she can't stand to spend another second trapped there.
Passing for a Beta at Goldcrest College is so much harder than she expects. The big city is full of Alphas, and she’s starting to attract some attention that could ruin her shot at freedom.
Meeting a rare male Omega and his Alphas, her perfume is triggered, and there’s no going back. She can run from herself, but she can’t hide from her true mates.
Secret Omega is a standalone sweet omegaverse romance with college-aged characters, serious steam, and an HEA.
That was bad, unfortunately. The chapters were so short that the story was choppy. The author introduced characters just to drop them a few chapters later. The plot started going one way and changed so fast that it made it seem like this story wasn't well thought out or the author couldn't commit to it. Secret and the men didn't spend enough time together for us to see anything develop between them. The steam was bad. The characters kept repeating how fantastic and world-changing it was and I was like "That's it? They're done already?"
I was so, so torn on rating this one 😩 I had hyped this book up a lot in my head and was counting down the days for release, and ended up being kinda disappointed so I’m not sure how much of that disappointment is coming out in my rating. I did find myself skimming the story after 50% because I lost interest, it picks up at the end but not really enough to make up for the rest of the story.
Ultimately, my main issue with this book is that it’s very flat. The storytelling felt abrupt, and like we were being told everything instead of shown everything. It was not a short story, but still felt like a bit of an outline because there was no depth. I enjoy multiple POVs, but I did feel like they changed a bit too much in this story and I would have liked to see more focus on the FMC. The first half of the book felt like it was much more about the M/M relationships and the FMC felt like an afterthought. Secret also felt a bit unrealistic as a character, very much with her head in the clouds.
The main plot was actually interesting, but again it didn’t feel like it was fully fleshed out. There were a lot of things that were alluded to that weren’t resolved either. The ending all was solved pretty quickly with most loose ends being tied up (with the exception of the unresolved weird ‘brainwashing’ storyline). The ending was much more interesting than the beginning, however the entire plot of this book is contingent on really poor decision-making and planning from the main characters and I had a hard time looking past that. Secret’s plan from the start, Dylan’s plan from the start, then their second plan when the first plan didn’t work, then the 3rd plan when they’re in the middle of the second plan… all terrible plans. How Seth Cassidy and Ryan managed to pull off a miraculous rescue with virtually no issue was a true miracle (full credit to Ryan because I don’t think Cass and Seth had the capacity) 😅. The two Alphas are basically just wall art in the story.. Cassidy was a pushover, Seth was unhinged, and both have really major Daddy issues, that’s literally all I found out about them in the entire story.
Side note- I don’t think the secondary villain was necessary and it was resolved so quickly it felt very easy and could have just been cut out of the story.
DNF at 11% - Chapter 12 out of 109! after the FMC Secret meets Dylan and almost reveals herself by perfuming.
Somehow I still forgot that I haven't enjoyed multiple books by this author yet still borrowed this book immediately when it released since it was a sweet omegaverse setting... 3rd time is not the charm, and I am definitely writing off this author from my reading list.
There was an extreme amount of stream of consciousness narration with lots of telling rather than showing. I also got very heavy Pack Darling: Part One vibes, with... 1. causing self-discomfort to prevent perfuming and exposing herself as an Omega 2. the love interests were an already established all-male harem with another male omega 3. attraction between two omegas
Hopefully I learned my lesson and will stop accidentally borrowing books from this author...
Secret Omega is a really creative story and I really enjoyed it.
Leto is an Omega in a town of Beta’s. She’s a rarity and unless she wants to be sent to a special academy she needs to stay under the radar. Her small town doesn’t have a university and she dreams of getting an education. She decides to risk her hidden identity and move to a world where there are alphas. Can she keep her secret and stay safe?
An Omega gives off a perfume when attracted to another and don’t shy away from alphas. This is a shifter story with a different or at least to me. I haven’t read any Omega books before. I really liked how the story wrapped together.
I didn’t like this book, it was so so boring. It felt like the author was trying to make it a knock off of the Pack Darling Duet, but it’s more like a pale imitation. The characters are all very flat. They have little to no personality at all. The story line is excruciatingly slow.
I dnf’d this book at 80%. Nothing interesting was happening. The world building was nonexistent, literally. The relationship development? What relationship development. There was none. This is practically a MM only romance. Except it’s not romantic at all.
Also, many of the ‘chapters’ were only like three pages, that’s just lazy writing. The story was very choppy reading at best.
This one wasn't for me. I love omegaverse as it happens to be one of my all time favorite genres. Something about sexy growly alphas, and the omegas that they make they're entire world just does it for me. This wasn't it for me, it was teeny bopper alphas, followed by a long dragged on story focusing on only the two omegas more then the truly juicy aspects I love about omegaverse. The story has crazy turns here and there, but nothing that grips you. I found myself a bit bored and was just unsatisfied.
Plot: Secret is a...secret omega. She has been passing as a beta so that she can go to college, but she isn't sure she can maintain the facade. Dylan is in the same situation, but is also hiding the secret that he has a couple of alphas already. When they are both outed, they must go to an omega academy, but there are dangers lurking there. Seth and Cass must figure out how to rescue their omegas and defeat the bad guys to continue to protect Dylan and Secret.
Commentary: As I understand it, this is the second version, which has been heavily reworked. It shows - there are very few proofreading errors, and I certainly appreciate that. There are some issues with plot, in my opinion, namely that it's over-packed:
Some of the plot points were mentioned but never explored (the brainwashing). Some were mentioned and used a little in the plot (the serial killer aspect - their father was blamed for the carnage at the academy, somehow - not explained well; the abuse that Cass suffered was mentioned in the context of a lighter that was then used later in the story). Some plot points were mentioned more than once but just weren't needed - Secret's sister's identity (which added nothing to the plot).
So while all of the plot points could have been used effectively, they weren't here; that's actually good in one sense, because the book would have been way too long if we had flashbacks from all the characters or explanations of all of their issues. But in another sense, there was so much to keep track of and all the competing subplots led to feelings of loose threads at the end. (not to mention, in order to deal with the serial killer dad, two o the guys left during Secret's heat! That's just not done in the context of omegaverse!).
Maybe some of these issues will be dealt with later in the series, but it looks like future books are not about the same pack, so it might be just the issues at the academy that are mentioned later.
The story wasn't bad - the sex scenes were fairly tame for a reverse harem omegaverse - but it was just packed too tightly.
Of course I had already heard about the Omegaverse before I read it for the first time, but I discovered how much I love it when I read the first book in the sweetverse, created by Kathryn Moon. After reading her book I only wanted more and more and when I discovered that Romy Lockhart, one of my favorite authors, was also gonna write a sweet Omegaverse story I was therefore really excited about it! And last week I finally got my arc!
What I love about Lockhart is that I always know what I get. Although every one of her stories is unique, with new characters, new backstories and new settings, she always delivers the same ingredients. She has a very personal writing style, making all her books easy reads. Her sentences might not be very lyrical or flowery, but she knows how to get her message across. And she always fleshes out the guys as much as the girls, something I personally really love.
Even though this story is set in an entirely new world, Lockhart never bores us with endless info-dumps. The world explains itself, simply because we're exploring it with the characters she created. And just like all her worlds, it's a harsh world with loads of dangers and not everyone keeps the interests of others in mind when doing something. I'm quite excited that we're getting more stories in this world, because it feels like there is a lot left to explore!
As always it are the characters stealing the show. Our leading lady and I have a lot in common and therefore it was quite easy to identify with her, which means that I also started to feel for her quite soon too. And since the guys all get their own point of views to tell their side of the story and their life history I also fell in love with them slowly. I have to admit that the ending felt a little rushed, but I did close the book with a very satisfied and happy feeling.
I can't wait to read the next installment in this series!
I have to hold my hands and own up that when i read the blurb and that this book was a sweet omegaverse book my first thought was omg theres gonna be no steam/sex in it. I was just about ready to move onto the next book quickly, lol. Im actually kind of glad that i stuck with reading this book. Secret (FMC) has been keeping a secret (pun intended!!) that shes an Omega. A secret that she has to keep to herself more so with the threat of being sent away to an Omega facility where they are trained/conditioned or something much worse according to Secret which is being mated to an Alpha.
The sweet part of this book for me was Secrets dynamic with Dylan. Yes it was steamy but it was also endearing too. Saying that all the guys had a touch of sweetness to them even with everything that happens in this book. I genuinely enjoyed reading it
Im just wondering if Secret's friend Beth will get her own book? Id definitely read it if she did
Let's start this off with, despite the rating (2.5-3), I really enjoyed this story! I am going to be more honest with my ratings this year. No more rating someone higher because of who they are, no more pity ratings, no more rounding the numbers up.... You get the idea...
I loved the idea of the story... The problem was, some of it seemed very juvenile in delivery. This book read like a dreame app novel. It was also compounded by the fact that it was over 100 chapters and each chapter being, on average, nothing over 4 pages long. I think there were a couple that were 6 but, not really...
As you likely know, I am fickle when it comes to details. Meaning, I pay very close attention to them. I am the type of person who walks into a room and scopes out every detail about the room. Exits, decor, rooms, etc... So when I am reading, I treat it as if I am being locked into a room and I read and absorb EVERYTHING... So, when the book/author fails to follow the details they put out there for us to follow, I get hyper-focused on those details and it drives me mental! It has been enough in the past to make me "walk away" from a book, if the screw up is bad enough... With this book, I was determined to finished it because I loved, Secret.
I really love that I started my new year with an Omegaverse novel. Although, there were a few things that didn't make.sense... Different things that I have learned over the past year that I have started to read this genre... Example?
In every single Omegaverse I have read this past year, well... I suppose two years now, when the alpha is about to knot his omega, it was usually right before he is about to come... In this book, it was as soon as penetration happened and he literally goes off like a firework straight off... Honestly, I prefer them having some fun before the knot is engaged. It makes more sense because it gives them time to back out of the act of the knot is not wanted. Am I making sense? In this book, it felt wrong. And artificial.
There were a few other things that just irked me a little...
Another thing was that there was no closure about Ryan...
And after over 100 chapters, the ending seemed rather rushed.
Make no mistake though, I am not disappointed that this is the book that brought me into the new year, and I am happy that it is a standalone so I can choose to read.more.from the series, or just move on to something else.
Another completely random book my kindle recommended to me featuring ABO dynamics and a reverse harem. This was an intriguing premise featuring both M/F and M/M and M/M/F dynamics.
The first half was not bad - I enjoyed the premise and the characters. Not something I’ve read before so I was engaged.
Unfortunately this book took a walk intro crazytown in the second half. It become so overstuffed and frankly inconsistent that was I was tempted to give up. It was pretty bad because there wasn’t much romance and all the external threats were so ridiculous that they didn’t add drama. It all gave me a headache … which was a shame As I think the premise and first third was quite promising.
I am going with 2 stars despite the collapse of the second half largely because I thought the writing was pretty good and I liked the set up.
Great Omegaverse. I enjoyed this standalone book that features Alpha/Beta/Omega characters. The story was well thought out and I remained interested until the end.
Secret Omega, by the fabulous Romy Lockhart, was so much more than I was expecting! I loved Romy’s unique spin on the whole omegaverse dynamics and thought the plot flowed beautifully and had great character development throughout the story.
Secret, our sweet and sassy FMC that goes by CC, is an Omega hiding away her true self in a world of Betas and wants nothing more than to be a Beta herself and avoid the whole Omega life. Wanting to live her own life and attend school outside of her Beta filled town, she soon finds that living amongst Alphas, and all their sexy magnetism, may not be as easy as she thought—especially after a run in with a male omega. A run in that changes everything…
Full of twists and turns, sexy fierce alphas, sweet and shy omegas, suspenseful mysteries, corrupt schools, crazy serial killers and of course several hot and steamy connections, this story will take you on a fabulous journey as our group battles against several unforeseen entities. I love how the characters interacted and grew together throughout the story and how it was told in multiple POVs, which allowed us a chance to get to know each of the characters a bit more and experience what they’re feeling for themselves.
Overall if you’re a fan of omega-verse RH romance stories set in a collage atmosphere, with tons of sexy steam (including some m/m action!) and a unique spin on the alpha, beta and omega dynamics—then this is the book for you! Needless to say, Romy knocked th is one right out of the parkI
This book flew by so fast I felt like I needed a seatbelt, and not in a good way. Blink and you’ve missed half the plot (not that it was explained anyway). Descriptions? Non-existent. I had no clue what anything or anyone looked like, including the world they were supposedly living in.
The main girl had so many chances to fix her mess, but nope, she just kept making the worst possible decisions like it was her hobby. And don’t even get me started on the men. Were they supposed to be the love interests? Because honestly, I’ve had more chemistry with my houseplants.
*I received free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
Another fabulously fun read by Lockhart. We get to follow Secret, an Omega in hiding, as she attempts to attend college hiding as a Beta. This might have been possible if her mates were not there as well. Their meeting kicks her system into high gear making things quite interesting as it all plays out. This makes for a fabulously steamy Omega read that is sure to be enjoyed by fans of the genre. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
Very good book throughout, the plot was engaging and the characters had their own peculiar quirks. Romy Lockhart has created quite a feisty FMC, who is determined to take her future in her own hands despite her designation as an omega. Loved the name, Secret, such an odd and yet quite mysterious name that actually suits the character and her background story. I did appreciate the fact that C.C. meets the male omega first and they click so flawlessly from the start that seeing their connection develop throughout the book was fantastic. Overall, a very pleasantly written sweet omegaverse.
This was a fun fast paced read that takes us on a journey through an omegaverse. I like that this one was on the sweet side but it definitely wasn't missing any drama or angst ;) I also liked that story was told in multiple POVs. It had a good plot that really caught my attention - and fab world building that kept it :D I'm looking forward to the next book.
This is a good addition to the sweet omegaverse. Well written we meet Secret Leto who wants to have a normal life but that is not supposed to be in the cards for her. She’s strong , she’s sassy and she’s an omega but doesn’t want to be. With an exciting and intriguing storyline and fab characters this stand alone is a fun read.
Interesting take on omegaverse society. Was a bit confusing at times. For what it’s worth, it was a fun read I guess? Though the amount of fade-to-black sex scenes and lack of detail in the sex scenes was frustrating considering this is a smut book. Every single character is very Mary-Sue but but I didn’t hate it?
I really enjoyed this book. It's a sweet romance but still has drama. Some great secrets and plot twits are revealed in this book. Definitely a must read
I don't mind alternating perspectives, but I hate when it's 1-2 pages per. Too choppy to get fully immersed in the story.
Besides that, I think the author tried to do too much with this, between the missing childhood love, the omega trafficking, the serial killer, the true mates, etc - it was just a lot and none of it ended up working for me. I was bored by around 50% in and skimmed the rest to find out what was up with the missing guy and how he fit in, and I kind of wish I hadn't even done that.
Disappointing. That’s the only way I can really describe this book. It was clear the author hadn’t planned out their chapters or the plot in enough detail. We constantly got tidbits of other characters for them to be forgotten. Bombshells we’re dropped, to then be ignored for the rest of the book.
The FMC barely spent any time with the MCs - we didn’t feel any connection whatsoever. Small hints of ‘mysteries’ were added, to again not lead anywhere. I’d have loved some better world building and character development. I think the final straw was the last 15% of the book added a new ‘very important’ character - a load of plot lines we haven’t really heard about before and it did not work. The ending felt forced - like the author knew the book needed to finish but hadn’t wanted to include any hints at the beginning to make it feel more natural.
On top of that, the sex scenes were just lacklustre - boring.
Two stars because I managed to finish it - but would not recommend.
I need to start DNFing books more often. I feel like I don’t actually know anything about these characters. Also they were barely together. I don’t mind a slow burn but there was no burning it was just slow.
Secret Omega is a standalone romance novel by Romy Lochkart. This book is a paranormal romance novel minus the shifting. Secret is an Omega, and she knows it. But she wants to be able to make her own decisions about her life. She knows the risks that she’s taking, but it’s what she wants. So, when she manages to leave her small town and be accepted to an academy she takes it. If she can pretend to be a Beta then she can make it, but fighting what she is won’t be easy. She has to avoid Alphas if she hopes to keep her secret, but what is she going to do when three males stir her emotions? Secret Omega is one of those novels that will have you saying “sign me up for what’s in this novel!” LOL! This book has engaging characters, and a good storyline. The steamy scenes are absolutely delicious and kept me coming back for more. I honestly appreciate Secret as a character. It’s refreshing that she’s not a domineering character who feels the need to be snarky and mouthy. Secret knows that exposure is not something she can have happen, so she keeps her head down as best she can. There is more going on than just Secret keeping her head down and accidentally meeting the males she’s fated for. I appreciate that, but at the same time I’m a bit frustrated with this story. It feels like there is a lot of filler. There are a lot of “details” in this book and quite a bit of the minor “day to day” that I feel could be cut out to streamline the story more. It’s engaging, but constantly having to wade through some of the more minor aspects drags the story down. Quite a bit could be removed and the story would still be engaging but more so as it keeps you page-turning to find out what happens next. I’m choosing to rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. This book has a lot of good elements, and since it’s a standalone novel you’re guaranteed a HEA. I just wish that some of the minor points of the story had been cut out to create a more streamlined novel. As it is some of the scenes feel like filler. But there is quite a lot to enjoy in this book for those who decide to dive in.
