Bodhi King #7

Chosen Path

Rate this book

Once set in motion, the wheel of the truth cannot be stopped.

Forensic pathologist Bodhi King has an international reputation as the expert to consult when there’s an unexplained death cluster. So he’s not surprised when the call comes in about a troubling spate of deaths in a remote town on the U.S.–Canadian border.

He is surprised when he arrives in the tiny community tucked away in the mountains and every door slams shut in his face. The people there don’t want his help, even as their own are dying. It would be the easiest thing in the world to walk away, but that’s not the path Bodhi’s chosen to walk.

So he digs into the town’s dark crevices in search of the truth. But what he finds will force him to confront his own beliefs about courage, compassion, and the sanctity of life and of death.

Bodhi King returns in Chosen Path, the seventh book in the series by USA Today bestselling author Melissa F. Miller.

I really missed Bodhi, and what a perfect day to read Chosen Path as it was cold and rainy day.

Chosed Path is about a small, remote community experiencing a higher than usual death rate. Dr Molly reaches out to her uncle Dr Al for assistance. Bodhi is called in to discover the cause of the death cluster. The results are a page turning rush to discover the cause before anyone else dies.

While I enjoy all of Melissa's work, I particularly love the Bodhi series because of the underlying calm he brings to any situation despite the circumstances. I admire his Buddhist beliefs and abilities to maintain them despite what the world brings. If only there was more of that in today's world.

Chosen Path really makes one think and I highly recommend it!

Dr Molly Hart, newly arrived doctor in the isolated town of Scandia Path, Vermont, population 588 is confronted with the seventh death since her arrival six months prior. All appeared to be sudden deaths. In a town this small, such a number is perplexing and concerning. Dr. Hart puts in a call to her Uncle Al who is also a doctor and asks for help. And help he does. Her uncle convinces famed forensic pathologist Doctor Bohdi King to go to Scandia Path to see if he can help unravel the mystery of the deaths.
The town folk have been tight lipped and do not want discuss anything about the deaths and soon start shutting Dr Hart out.
This tale is well written and not predictable as we have grown to expect from the author. This one is no exception. I recommend you read everything written by Melissa F. Miller.
I would like to thank those responsible for the opportunity to read an advance copy of the work.

It’s always a pleasure to read a Bohdi King novel; he is such a calm presence, even as a fictional character.

The small village of Scandia Bluff was on a slow downhill slide as a community. The people in general lost their way, but the council was speeding down a black diamond run. Dr. Mary Hart and Bohdi worked with assistant librarian Hope and police officer Booth to figure out what was going on and how to stop it. I particularly liked how Hope and Mary came together afterward to help bring the community together and move forward.

The story raised interesting questions about how we, as human beings, deal with with our aging population. I was reminded of the lieutenant governor of Texas who said during the early stages of the Covid pandemic that old people should forgo treatment in favor of younger people.

I received an ARC of Chosen Path.

Chosen Path A Bodhi King Mystery by Melissa F. Miller
This is another well crafted mystery by Melissa F. Miller. The setting is key to this story being an isolated town high up in the mountains. Another key to this mystery were the relationships. Ms.Miller has created another group of interesting characters to interact with Bodhi as he tries to help young Doctor Molly unravel a reason for a death cluster among her patients.
The mountain town description was intriguing and reminded me of some I had visited but the people living in this mountain town are far more interesting and have their own mystery.
Bodhi brings a sense of order and calm to Doctor Molly’s urgent need to find a cause. He is very methodical and does not jump to conclusions but is not afraid to step over boundaries to find his answer.
While one is reading one of Bodhi’s mysteries, his sense of calm appears to transfer to the reader as well. I did feel the need to finish the story wanting to know the answer but in a calming way. It is almost as if Bodhi’s Buddhist beliefs jump off the page to envelope the reader as well.
Melissa’s books are always well researched and this one was no exception. I always learn something new, whether it is a social, political or economical issue. Melissa F. Miller’s books do not disappoint,
I wait in anticipation for Bodhi’s next mystery.

Community Responsibility

Cultures and communities often develop their own set of traditions, rules and beliefs. What might seem obscure or foreign to one group is merely 'the way it has always been done' for another. When a friend asks Bodhi King to leave the peaceful tranquility of his Buddhist community and travel to a remote area of Vermont to look into a cluster of unexplained deaths, the reader knows she is in for an exciting read.

Scandia Path is an isolated community of under 600 residents. The town's newest addition, Dr. Molly Hart, has confronted a seventh unexplained death since arriving six months ago. When the duo start to look into the medical files of the patients and the lack of autopsy or investigation, the Community Council tightens ranks and and residents are not talking.

The story unfolds in typical Miller fashion, with twists and unpredictable occurrences. As Bodies and

another great read from MFM

I’ve greatly enjoyed the Sasha Mccandless series as well as the Bodhi King spinoff. The characters are always written with depth so your opinion of them is often extreme; some you love, some you hate. But Bodhi is always a character you love. I can’t wait for her next release.

Bodhi is a great character

I have read all the Bodhi King novels and have learned to love him more with each book. Melissa does a great job of helping the reader see things from his perspective and maybe even teaches a thing or two along the way. I highly recommend these books.

Bohdi is asked to help Doctor Molly Hart, a new doctor to the town of Scandia Bluff, Vermont, where there have been 7 unexplained deaths since her arrival 6 months ago. I loved this book. There were subtle hints at a possible romance. There were more than subtle correlations between the isolation of this town and the isolation we have been experiencing in the real world now. There are smack-you-in-the face-why-didn't-I-see-that-earlier revelations that are so relevant to today's world. The mention of Sasha, I hope, will lead to another collaboration with the two of them. As always, I highly recommend Melissa F. Miller's books. I say this with every review, but it holds true each and every time - I always learn something! I agree with Rose's comment about the underlying calm Bohdi brings to any situation. I did receive this book as an ARC.

Molly is a relatively new doctor in a small town, and after a significant number of deaths in a short amount of time, with no real cause, she reaches out for help. Help comes in the form of Bodhi King. His unique expertise help to uncover what is really happening in this town.
This was an intriguing story. It's bizarre and a bit twisted, but also kind of sad. Definitely makes you think. Bodhi stories are always interesting ones, and I always wish I could be even half as calm as he is! Another great read in the series.

Molly is still new to her role as the only Dr in a small and isolated town and while still trying to get the locals to accept hr she now has 7 unexplained deaths and needs Bodhi's help working out what is behind the death cluster. You really don't know who can be trusted and if everyone or only some of the townsfolk are aware or behind what's happening to the others in town. There are some good twists as well as mystery to solve that leaves you a little stunned when all is revealed and makes me wonder where else it happens!!

I've been a fan of Bodhi King since he first appeared in the Sasha McCandless books, and was happy when a series starring him was created. He is such a unique character and the way he approaches his life and the mysteries he comes across, informed by his Buddhist beliefs, are enthralling. This latest book is a worthy addition to the canon.
