After making it through winter, Rowan, Devon, and Kiaya have settled into a routine and are looking forward to creating a future full of hope, new relationships, and even a brand new life.
Too bad it’s impossible to escape trouble completely during a zombie apocalypse.
When rumors about a new group causing trouble in the area reach them, Rowan, Devon, and Kiaya worry the life they’ve worked hard to build is at risk. Doing everything they can to make sure they’re safe, they increase security and create evacuation plans, but the more they discover about this other group, the more they begin to realize how unstable their situation really is.
Complicating things even more, Devon and Rowan learn disappointing news about other babies that have been born over the last several months. It seems zombies aren’t the only side effect of the virus, and with no real knowledge of what caused the outbreak to begin with, there’s no way to predict what might happen next. Meaning the only thing they can do is hope and pray that things turn out all right.
As spring moves into summer and their future grows more precarious, the group braces themselves for whatever they might face next. But the one constant in a zombie apocalypse is uncertainty, and they soon discover that preparing for some things is impossible.
I'm a mom of four, Air Force wife, and author of adult and young adult dystopian, post-apocalyptic, and science fiction. I love intense world building and character driven stories that feature strong female leads - as well as a side of romance - and any end of the world scenario. Zombies, aliens, a distant future where people have no clue how the world ended in the first place, you name it, I will create a story there!
Having lived in a lot of different places after more than a decade as an Air Force wife, I love setting my books in cities I've actually lived in to give them authenticity. I've resided in: Indiana, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, California, and Oklahoma but am currently back in my home state of Ohio where I live with my husband, four kids, two dogs, and three cats.
When I'm not writing, you can find me by my pool (in the summer), getting lost in some binge-worthy show or at a play with my husband, patronizing one of the great restaurants in my small town of Troy, Ohio with my family, or traveling. I want to see everything and make a point of visiting a new place every year!
Some of my favorite books are The Hunger Games, Pride and Prejudice, The Host, and The Stand. My favorite movies are Aliens, Jaws, Signs, Say Anything, Everything Everywhere All At Once, and The Greatest Showman.

I’ve spent months reading the other series set in this world and I’ve absolutely loved them, so I was really looking forward to reading this series and starting the apocalypse from the beginning again! This series was very interesting and there was obviously a lot in it! There were a lot of enemies, teamwork, love and zombies! The plot also held my attention all the way through and it had a lot of romance in it between two main couples! The romance allowed for a few steamy scenes too! There was also a lot of action and suspense in the books, which kept the plot moving and made us lose some important characters! The plot of the entire series developed further than I was expecting and I loved it a lot! The characters were also amazing and made this book even better! Rowan and Kiaya were the two female characters! I have to be honest and say that I thought that Rowan was going to be a kickass character, but there were points were she rushed into decisions and ended up putting her group in danger and I found her kind of childlike! She did grow on me at points! For me, Kiaya came a long way in this series and she grew a lot and was a strong character who could look after herself and was a great friend to Rowan! Devon, Doug and Gabe were all the main male characters! Devon was the love interest of Rowan and they got together pretty quickly and as the series progressed they had a family! Devon was very protective of Rowan and he would do anything to protect those he cared about! Doug started a romantic relationship with Kiaya as this series progressed! They did go through a rough patch, but it was easy to see how much they meant to each other! They were both stubborn as well lol! This series was mainly written from Rowen and Devon’s point of view, but quite a few chapters were written from Kiaya, Doug and Gabe’s point of views! I loved all the different point of views because it helped me connect with all the characters and see how they were dealing with the changes they were going through! It allowed for more things to happen in the plot as well, which helped as the characters did go through some situations by themselves! I now can’t wait to read more books from this author! I’m not sure if there’s going to be another series set in this world, but I really hope there is! It’s been a hell of a journey from book one of the Broken World series to the eighth book of the Far series! I also love the covers for this series! They really suit the books and the apocalyptic aspect of the plot! They suits the covers for the other series as well! The cover models are also the perfect Rowan, Kiaya and Devon!
Surviving the apocalypse is becoming more and more precarious for our group. Rowan would like to think the most dangerous thing facing her would be her progressing pregnancy and Devon would certainly prefer the usual worries about being a good father but their situation is more and more life-threatening than just the hordes of Zombies. When venturing out from their life at the hospital to trade with nearby settlements of survivors, they come across evidence that another group of friendlies they discovered during the harsh winter has been wiped out... by other people, and when they investigate other strongholds they know about to compare notes, they realise they are all being targets in a very organised and methodical way.
No matter how Kaiya tries to focus on maintaining their existence she cant resist her growing connection to Doug but before their romance can truly begin, she has to throw that logical genius brain into trying to outthink this band of killers and keep her group alive. They've got more concerns than timing contractions when their unknown enemy rolls up at their gates and weaponise the dead against the settlements, playing sniper with anyone whose not a child if they try to flee.
What a roller coaster ride of a book! The author has created a wonderful cast of characters and I love how they have grown, both as individuals and as a group (which has become a family). Just when you think things can't get worse, another villain pops up!
In this book, Ms. Mary has done something completely new (as far as I know) in the zompoc genre! One of the main characters is pregnant! So, in addition to fighting hoards of the undead, trying to recover from encounters with deranged teenagers, and worrying about a new group out to decimate all the other groups just trying to survive, now there is the concern over whether or not a baby will even survive.
Be ready for a fast paced read, full of zombie encounters, murderous villains and the blossoming of romance. This is a great addition to a great series and I look forward to devouring the next book when it is published.
I'm all into this series at this point. I'm glad Kiaya finally decided to let herself get into a relationship with Doug. They seem like a good match. But now things are taking a turn for the worse at the hospital. I'm glad most of the main characters survived but we need Mike back. They've got to find that other group and put an end to the destruction their causing other survivors. We need to figure out why they're taking all the children. I'm looking forward to the next part.
Yes, the wait was a long one…but after reading this book, it was worth the wait. Kate takes us on a real ride in this latest chapter of the Far Series. I did not see the twist with the unknown group threatening the those we have come to care about. I am eagerly awaiting Far From Done!
This series is quickly becoming one of my favorites of Kate’s. I love how she brings the characters to life. It this installment we continue following Rowan and Devon but also get so see Kiaya and Doug’s relationship blossom as well. Once again I’m left wanting more and can’t wait for Far From Done.
Excellent continuation in the Far Series. Ms. Mary is incredible in the zombie rhelm, she just can't be beat. Her books build upon what came before and her characters are very likable.
Ahhh. I will be looking forward to the next book..I can tell you.. In the city of Troy and when Rowan woke up to the ice cream truck music playing I started screaming 😱 I had to finish the book I had to know what happened. And it definitely happened.
Excellent and very emotional, with plenty of action. I found myself in tears several times, as well as smiling in joy at others. I truly cannot wait to begin reading book 6 and discover who the evil child stealing murdering group is.
It seemed like book 5 had more action and suspense than the others. The author leaves the readers not knowing who the new enemy is. I was hoping that at the end of the book, I would know if my suspicion about the enemy was correct.
This book was a crazy roller coaster of emotions! I can’t wait for the next book to find out what happens next! I loved reading kyrias point of view!!!
