Welcome to Blossom Inlet... Where Memories are Made and Secrets are Protected.
A story of secrets, deceit, and sorrow. Leora Van Leer has serious commitment issues. Why wouldn't she? Her mother abandoned her like an unwanted kitten right after she was born, and she has no idea who her father is.
When Leora inherits her grandmother's bed and breakfast, she discovers that she must live in and operate it for one year, or ownership will go to a children's foundation. It seems simple enough, but she has a history of running as fast as a streak of lightning every time she becomes too attached to anyone or anything.
As if that's not enough, she's also inherited three quirky residents with the B&B. Miss Sophie has Alzheimer's and drifts in and out of the now as fast as the snap of a finger. Preacher is a retired minister who takes Bible verse liberties. Eduardo is a young artist with absence seizures, freezing to a statue without warning.
Everything that can go wrong with reopening the bed and breakfast goes wrong. As well, her controlling mother is determined to steal her inheritance, and a brown-eyed stranger with a lopsided smile has stolen her heart.
While Leora adjusts to a new upside-down life, her mother does the unimaginable, leading Leora to uncover a secret so horrifying, her life will never be the same.
She has two options: come to terms with the past and continue the Van Leer legacy as she promised her grandmother;
Leora inherits her grandmother’s home, now a struggling B&B with conditions that seem impossible to fulfil. And with it come a bunch of misfits, who should be a burden to Leora, and the reader wants her to get rid of them ASAP. But as the story unfolds, you become attached to each of the interesting and intriguing characters, and want the place¬ to succeed. The author takes you on a whirlwind journey through drama, secrets, heartbreak and hope to a satisfying end, which still makes you yearn for the next in the series. I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.
I was lucky enough to have read an advanced copy of this delightful story about a young woman who inherits a bed and breakfast in a beautiful area on the gulf coast of Florida. Leora is faced with numerous challenges and heartaches but never gives up on herself or her grandmother’s wishes. Her biological family has secrets which have a powerful impact on her decisions but her “inherited” family perseveres with her and their loyalty gives her strength. The author has a special talent developing her characters and their personalities, making the reader feel as if the characters are personal friends. This is a heartwarming read but with tragedies that will keep you wanting to know what happens next. Thoroughly enjoyed this book and I want to know more about Leora and her next endeavors. Definitely recommend.
What a thrill to be reading Sandra's Joines newest novel on International Women's Day and during Women's History Month!
Leora comes from a long line of strong and independent women, and despite her fierce aversion to commitment, she finds herself right in the middle of taking care of her grandmother's quirky friends as she inherits a BnB in need of some TLC. Leora finds family, love, and her own powerful voice in a story that provides both comedy and tragedy, shining a bright light on the complexity of family - biological and chosen.
Written with grace, Bed, Breakfast, & Bedbugs reminds us just what women are made of, and how our pasts can - and cannot - define us.
This is a new author to me. I won this book from the 4th Annual Fall Festival giveaway on the site call Isn't it Romantic Book Club on Facebook. This book was well written by the wonderful author. Once you start to read the book you just didn't want to stop reading the book as you wanted to see what happens next. I felt like I was right there in the storyline with the characters. I definitely would recommend this wonderful book to everyone. To learn more about this wonderful author (Sandra Bass Joines) please check out her Facebook page and Newsletter . I just finished reading Bed, Breakfast & Bedbugs, the first in the Blossom Inlet series. Loved it! Leora, a young woman, is forced to give up her wandering, commitment-free life in order to manage her grandmother's bed & breakfast. . . as well as three unexpected residents. The characters are well developed with unique quirks-- I loved Miss Sophie! As Leora delves into her troubled past, she unearths family secrets that change everything. Great ending-- can't wait for the next one!
