The author describes the history, politics, myth and culture which have evolved by the banks of the river. Carefully crafted and to splendid narration.

It's a boring book and the author is clearly not good at writing travelogues. He repeats the same lines about oppression of women and lower castes every few pages that it's quite tedious.

The only reason I read it till the end was only for learning South Indian history. His descriptions about the landscapes and temples failed to invoke any enthusiasm in my mind and I don't think I will be visiting the banks of Cauvery anytime soon.
