Alone in the year 1911 and stranded in London, John Decker searches for Mina, whom he fears is trapped in the past along with him. Instead, he finds the precursor to CUSP, an organization known as The Order of St. George. And when he does, it raises more questions than answers.
Meanwhile, in a village on the city's outskirts, something terrifying has been released. A supernatural force that drives people to murder.
Agreeing to help the Order, Decker arrives in the tiny hamlet of Mavendale to investigate, where he finds an abandoned workhouse shuttered decades before, a history soaked in blood, and a malevolent entity looking for victims…
Favorite book of the series so far! Man that was fun, I couldn’t put this one down. Decker has been thrown back to 1911, London. Not the best time to resemble a homeless man, when vagrancy was a crime. He’s saved after an uncomfortable night in jail by none other than Mina, who was thrown back to the late 1800s and has waited more than 20 years to find Decker. Due to her gift from Abraham Turner, she hadn’t aged a bit, though internally she’s lived another quarter century.
Together, the two must investigate a series of strange murders out of town. It appears that there are a string of possessions that result in a murder suicide. They team up with a psychic medium and discover just how dyer the circumstances are…all the while John misses Nancy and wants nothing more than to make it back to his own time. This one was so interesting and cool, I loved all of the characters and the drama! Can’t wait to keep reading!
So this really sucks John is to get married to Nancy in the 2022 ,now JD an Mina are in the year 1911England. Now she has been there 20 years or so earlier then John an she has formed the company he works for in 2022. It's really all scrabble up if you ask me. How the hell are they going to get back to their own time paired, so John can get back to a normal life hunting monster an marry the love of his life. I hope the writer fingers it out soon,so I can get it fixed in my head to where, what an when they all are!!!!!
AM I READY FOR THE NEXT JOHN DECKER BOOK - HELL YES!!
(Especially after this book the author asks)!!
This book is set in 1911 and John Decker has been thrown into the past but one question is Mina there too? If you've read the John Decker series you'll definitely know who she is.
No sooner had he landed in the past he has to try and find The Order of St. George unless he'll be in dire straits but isn't he usually.
In a little village on the outskirts of London there are unusual supernatural events happening sounds like a new adventure for John Decker to me.
Well, what can I say this is the 10th book in this series and I have absolutely loved every story. But just as I thought phew, I could relax with this book, the author throws in another twist and a cliffhanger in my opinion, oh no you can't do that to me, shouting at the book I know.
So now am patiently waiting for my next John Decker adventure but seriously when I turn the very last page I never want the story to end at all.
So now I am patiently tapping my fingers, please hurry up for my next fix of John Decker!!!
Mr Strong can write a great thriller. He has done so nine times in the John Decker series. Unfortunately, this one is a bit lacking in suspense, in story line and especially in editing. There is a lot of repetition of lines within just a few pages. I got that JD spent his first night on a park bench and his second night in jail, I did not need to read it at least three times. There were many missing pronouns. The story line did not give enough information about Mina’s time in the past, only enough to be annoying. I realize this is fodder for another book, but, it distracted from the main story. The unnamed man in black is another prelude to Mina’s story, but took too much time from this one. The main story, which was very interesting, felt truncated by the side stories. Will I read the next one? Absolutely! Mr Strong can write suspense very well. I hope he continues.
This book follows on from the events that happened at the end of Last Resort. Can be read on it's own though everything is explained. Decker finds himself stranded alone in 1911!! He thinks Mina must be somewhere in this era and tries to track down the order of ST George the initial group before CUSP. The order gets him to investigate people in a near by village that are being possessed and killing eachother always a man and a woman. Decker enlists the help of a new character Skye who is a medium who actually has powers and can help! I can't say anymore on the plot of this book without giving spoilers away! I enjoyed reading it very much! Anthony's writing is just has good has it always been. Lots of action and quips and great storyline. I read this book in a few days has I could not put it down. I just had to read on at the end of some of the chapters :) I'm looking forward to what Decker gets up to next in book 11 ;) I was given an advanced copy of the book to leave this honest review.
I thoroughly enjoyed this read. Taking a sharp left turn with Decker and Mina was brilliant. It has opened up so many new possibilities for the author to explore and I am here for it. DARK FORCE is a very engaging tale picking up very close to where the previous book ended. A wee bit different than previous Decker novels but still grabs your attention immediately and keeps it until the end. AMS has a way of writing characters that makes them very easy to relate to and the writing is straight forward and easy to follow. Not one to go off on a tangent, he gives you straight up story and I so very much appreciate that. Having finished, I am on pins and needles waiting for the next. I received a complimentary copy of the book and this is my honest and unbiased opinion of the tale.
Alone in the year 1911 and stranded in London, John Decker searches for Mina, whom he fears is trapped in the past along with him. Once he makes contact with CUSP's precursor the Order of St. George, he reunites with her. Before they can catch up, they are drawn to a small village with an abandoned workhouse that four young people were just killed in. This series is getting better and better and I'm looking forward to the next installment! The paranormal entities they encounter in this mission were truly terrifying and it's fascinating to see them try to solve the mystery without modern technology. I'm intrigued to learn more about Mina's time in London on her own and her part in forming the Order of St. George.
Another good entry into the John Decker series, but for me it wasn't up to the standard of the previous books. Lacked a little polish in both the story and the writing with some repetitive sentences and a rather lackluster malevolent ghost subplot. I'm irritated that I've been hit with a cliffhanger ending two books in a row - these books are so short they could easily be combined and end at a more appropriate time
I'll try the next one and hope things pick up again. If I get another cliffhanger I may put this series aside for a while.
Decker is back and still on top form. This adventure flows seamlessly from his previous adventures. In this episode we meet some new and intresting characters along with some old friends. A superb page turner I did not want to put down. Anthony M Armstrong is in superb form with this book. I definitely recommend this and look forward to the next adventure. I received a complimentary advanced reader copy of this book and leave this honest review voluntarily.
Another great John Decker thriller! Although this time he is trapped in England in the early 1900s. What a rollercoaster of a ride this story was. Decker is sent by the Order of St. George to investigate some unusual deaths in an abandoned workhouse. He comes face to face with something he's never dealt with before. Anthony M Strong does a great job bringing us into the past. Can't wait for the next one! Highly recommend!
After Decker and Mina's plane was struck by lightning whilst trying to get back to his wedding and timeline, Decker awakes in a strange land,in a time that is not the present. Searching for Mina he finds himself involved in a secret organisations investigation...with demonic forces at large! Another fantastic book from Anthony M. Strong in the Decker series
Another great entry in the John Decker series. This one picks up where the last one left off and goes full throttle until the end. It was scary and surprising with lots of interesting characters. I enjoyed there book immensely and am looking forward to the next book. Can't wait to see how this cliffhanger is resolved!
WOW!!! Just WOW!!!! These books are amazing. I think I’ve said it before but these books grab you and suck you right in at the first couple of pages. I think this one was my favorite. Twists and turns all over the place. I can’t wait to find out what happens next!! You need to read these books in order to get the full picture of the stories. Happy Reading :)
Another great John Decker book. Mina and John are trapped in the past and are working to find their way back to the 21st Century but their battle with spirits and human strangers keep them from finding their way back to their own lives in the future. Mina has been kidnapped by a man in black and John cannot leave till he finds her.
A wonderful book.

I was really not looking forward to this episode of the Decker story. One of the reason I like the series it’s like reuniting with old friends - and here John finds himself away in time and space from his friends (and ours too!)
Turns out I was wrong - another excellent outing and he (and we) make new friends. This remains one the best series out there.
What do you get when you cross Quantam Leap, with Sherlock Holmes, and mix in a little John Decker? This tale of time-travelling quandries, with Mina in the middle, trying to figure out what her new-found status means. Following on from book 9, this has plenty of twists and turns and finishes with another cliffhanger
Have just read and thoroughly enjoyed this the latest in the John Decker series of supernatural exploits, full of thrills and action till the end, where it leaves you with one solution but the story continues. I would highly recommend it .
Dark Force is another great tale from Anthony Strong. The story grabs you from the beginning straight to the end. A bit darker than the last novel. And much creepier. A great spooky ghost story. Mr. Monster Hunter, John Decker does a great job ghostbusting.
Another amazing book by Anthony Strong. If you haven't discovered this series then buy them you won't regret it. They are well written characters well developed so you root for them. You won't be able to stop turning the pages.
I keep saying over and over again these books would make an awesome movie. Maybe Vin Diesel could play John Decker, I just don’t understand why more original material cannot be made into movies lately.
Love the way the story flows along from one scene to another great characters that keep You Hooked all the way through The book, can’t wait for the next one and find out who the slimy undertaker is working for
Stranded in 1911, John Decker is confronted with a supernatural mystery, as he struggles with the fact he may never return to his own time. Helped by Mina, who has been stranded even longer in the past and it seems she was always destined for the time period.
Very good story that filled in a few gaps for me and provided background for the next books in the series. Probably should have read them in order. Interesting and well developed characters, which fill out the storyline. Especially liked Skye.
I read #8 cryptic quest and quickly went and started reading from book 1. I really like the characters and the monsters! So different than any other books. I only gave it 4 stars because it’s more drama with Mina. I want John to be home and back to real monster hunting. It’s been almost a year since I read Last Resort because I knew Dark Force was another Mina story so I put it off. I know the next book has more Mina but then I really hope it’s back to date and more monsters! I like Mina and enjoy her character but I don’t enjoy that being the main line in the book.
This was a bit slower of a story than Strong's usual reads. A lot of walking and talking, and less action and adventure. More of the paranormal and less of the cryptid. Still a good read. Just not one of Strong's "stronger" works.
