The title of this book reminds me of one of the Xbox games my kids used to love playing, the Army of Two game was one of the few times they got along, and played well together. I'd like to think if this book was a game, they could sit down together and play through it just as they did several years ago with the army of two game. This is exactly what scifi should be. Pushing the boundaries, and telling an excellent story in the process.
Space ships, AIs, Alien races, exploration, and of course, the ever present destruction of the human race hanging over all of their actions. It all sets up for a really well done story, and one I believe most scifi fans will enjoy.
Also, because of the author notes at the end of the book, I suggest Stan's Doughnuts in California (the radio announcers at the phillies games always talk about them when they're playing the Giants). I've always wanted to order some, but never got around to doing so, mostly because my wasteline really doesn't need any help, but also because growing up my dad owned several Duncan Doughnut stores, and I'm always apauled by the levels to which they've sank these days, what with shipping doughnuts in from a central location, instead of baking them at the store, and the fact that eclairs and coffee rolls (my two favorite doughnuts) are almost never carried anymore. (and don't give me that crap about a boston cream being identical to an eclair, that's BS, and anyone who knows anything about eclairs will back up me up on that).
Anyway, doughnuts aside, if you're a scifi fan, grab this one, and begin a new series that promises to be one heck of a ride.
