Kasper Ridge #2

Only a Crush

Rate this book
I'm the girl who defies expectations. The girl who'll never stay inside that box you think will fit me.

And right now? I'm the girl working as event planner at my Navy pal's mountain resort. We flew together in the Navy, and it feels right to be back with my squadron mates when they need help now.

But when I agreed to go check out some rustic backcountry cabins for the resort's opening event, I didn't plan on the so, so hot Mateo coming along with me. He's a contractor at the resort, and he has this whole grumpy single dad widower thing going on... But since he's got a kid, and family is the last thing I want, I'm staying far, far away.

Until we get stranded together in one of those cabins in a freak snowstorm.

And now? Staying away from him is the last thing I want to do. But he doesn't fit my life plans any more than I fit his.
It's a couple days (and insanely hot nights) in a cabin. Nothing else. I can do this. It's only a crush, after all.

A full length standalone happily ever after with a mystery that runs through the whole Kasper Ridge series from USA Today bestseller Delancey Stewart.

I'm USA Today Bestselling author Delancey Stewart. My contemporary romances run the gamut of settings and setups, but they always deliver humor, heart and heat. It's a guarantee.

4 Star Review Only A Crush (Kasper Ridge #2) by Delancey Stewart
Delancey Stewart is a relatively new author to me but what I have read I have enjoyed. me across her before. When I read the blurb for Only A Crush I was intrigued by the fact that our heroine Annalee is a former Navy Fighter Pilot.
I didn’t realize that this is a series that should be read in order so as soon as I can I will go back and read the first book in the series as I feel this book will become a little clearer once I have, since there is a mystery that runs through the series.
I love single parent stories and Mateo Bandini is is a hot contractor that Annalee is attracted to. When Matteo lets her know that is is equally as attracted she knows that she should keep away from him and his daughter Lily. However when fate puts them together in a cabin in the middle of a storm the attraction explodes.
There were moments were I swooned, moments where I sighed and moments when I wanted to yell but all in all I was entertained with my visit to Kasper Ridge Resort and I look forward to reading more in the series.

Mateo and his five-year-old daughter, Lily, have been on their own since his wife died three years ago. Mired under a healthy dose of guilt, Mateo's sole focus is his daughter and his job in construction, currently at the Kasper Ridge Resort.

One of Mateo's new job duties involves hiking seven miles through the back country to the four old cabins on the resort property. They need to assess, repair and stock the cabins in preparation for an action-adventure internet sensation who wants to stay in one when the resort has its upcoming soft opening with influences and B-list celebrities. No problem, except Mateo will be accompanied by the one woman he can’t stop thinking about.

Annalee “Monroe" Tyson may currently be acting as the event planner for the resort, but she's a retired Navy pilot and holds her own in a man's world. She’s happy to help her old Navy buddy and his sister reopen their family’s resort, but anything remotely serious in the romance department has her running away quicker than a fighter jet can be launched from an aircraft carrier.

I adore stories like this, where people are averse to the inevitable. It's like fate takes one look and says, “Hold my beer,” laughing gleefully while she works her magic. Add in an adorable, precocious kid, hades-hot steamy scenes, a little mystery surrounding a hidden treasure, made family and lifelong friendships, and just the right emotion to give the ol' heartstrings a workout, and you get an unputdownable romance just perfect for your next reading escape.

I totally had a crush in Mateo and Monroe!!! They were a fabulous couple that had to overcome their inner demons to find their HEA. Like every single parent story, Lily stole the story with her brain and cuteness!

To be honest, I wasn’t a fan of Monroe before reading this book. (Please read the series in order!!!) I didn’t connect to her in the first book, but she captured my heart within a few chapters of this story. The chemistry between her and Mateo burned the pages and kept me reading until the last word!

I’m a big fan of extended epilogues, but I haven’t read this one yet. I just KNOW I’m going to love it and be impatiently watching my kindle for the next story in the series!

I am a big Delancey Stewart fan, and a member of her ARC team, so this book was sent to me in order for me to share my honest review. (I need to read it before I tell you what I think, ya know?).

The more of these books I read, the more I want to be friends with all these characters & help with the treasure hunt!! Mateo & Annalee/ “Monroe” are a fabulous couple fighting their attraction to each other while working at the hotel. They get snowed in during a freak snowstorm while checking out cabins at the resort & finally give in. Both Mateo & Annalee have their reasons for not being in relationships. Mateo is dealing with the guilt of losing his wife & raising his adorable daughter Lily while Annalee is dealing with issues from her childhood. You will be hooked from page one in this emotional, heartwarming, funny, charming, entertaining & heartbreaking story. They absolutely deserve their HEA. Such a wonderful group of characters, I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!! I received an arc from the author for an honest review.

Book 2 of Kasper Ridge is Monroe and Mateo’s story! I’ve been excited to read this because Monroe is an interesting character in the prior Kasper Ridge novels. I knew there was a lot more to Monroe and there sure is a lot to learn about this form Navy pilot. Both Monroe and Mateo have interesting back stories with some pretty bad events, but they are figuring out there way when they are suddenly confronted with being snowed in at a cabin. Their mutual attraction goes boom at the cabin and they are an inferno, but, do they want to continue their liaison or call it quits when they get back to their normal lives?
This is a very steamy story! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!

I love how Delaney writes single dads. Mateo is 100% committed to raising his daughter Lily, but Annalee is quite the distraction when they are forced to keep each other company. A female fighter pilot? Yes please! I felt like I was at Kasper Ridge through the whole story. I can’t wait to continue this series!

I haven’t read many books by Delaney Stewart but every book I have picked up I have found entertaining and enjoyable. I haven’t read book one in this series and it was only after picking up Mateo and Annalee’s story that I realised I really should have read that book first, that being said I still enjoyed this one and I will go back and catch up with the series in time for the next release.
Mateo is a man that’s easy to love, hot, swoon worthy single dad who will always put his daughter first add in a smart, strong, female military pilot and you get a seriously hot combination.
There is an instant attraction between these two but as much as they feel the attraction they know they shouldn’t cross the line. Problem is fate seems intent on putting them together and they find themselves in a cabin in the middle of a storm in the middle of know where with nothing else to do but get to know each other….
This was a emotional read and I really enjoyed my first visit to Kasper Ridge. Looking forward to reading more by the talented Delaney Stewart.

I really really like Annalee. As a mom of 3 girls (and a boy) living in a small town in the south….the pageants and the bows for girls are BIG, so I can see Annalee wanting to go in the opposite of that. But holy moly, a Navy fighter pilot! That’s awesome. I don’t think you can get anymore kick-butt than that.
I’m not sure I can articulate my feelings for/about Mateo and Lily. They weren’t bad. Just sad and happy and all the other feelings. Delancey Stewart did a great job of giving you the feels without making you bawl your eyes out and ugly cry.

And these two together….goodness gracious…they almost melted my kindle!

I absolutely loved it.

Oh, Delancey Stewart! You just keep drawing me in to the mystery of what the treasure hunt could be!
I want to live at the Kasper Ridge Resort and help find the treasure! I love how the answers and clues are being figured out. I love that Matteo's daughter Lily was the biggest help with this clue (Kids can certainly have simple insights that a lot of adults overthink).
The love story that is in this installation had me loving the reticent Matteo, and the fiercely independent Monroe (Annalee). The forced proximity of their situation certainly helped them let each of them lower their emotional guards and acknowledge their mutual attraction.

Thank you to Wildfire Marketing Solutions for the advanced reading copy of Only a Crush. Review contains my own thoughts and opinions.

After finishing books one and two of the Kasper Ridge series, I was excited to dive into book three, featuring contractor Mateo and former fighter pilot/current chef and events coordinator, Annalee, aka “Monroe.” It was a pretty light and quick read, and I really enjoyed it!

I recommend if if you love:

❄️ Forced proximity/ one bed
❄️ Single dad with sweet daughter
❄️ “Love and forever isn’t for me”
❄️ Interconnected series with a mystery!

After the death of his wife Mateo is determined that the only woman he needs in his life is his seven-year-old daughter Lily. He is helping with the construction upgrades to Kasper Ridge resort which leads to him escorting Annalee on a tour of the cabins until inclement weather has them stranded together.

After Annalee’s career as a military pilot ended she agreed to be the event planner for the resort that her former teammate and friend owned. She was determined to deny her attraction to Mateo but destiny and forced proximity had other ideas.

The characters of Mateo and Annalee as well as their pasts have you invested in seeing them find the happiness they deserve. Lily is a scene stealer and there is great group of secondary characters that enhance the story.

Universal

Former Navy pilot, Annalee, has been attracted to hot contractor Mateo for awhile now, but she can tell it's not reciprocated, considering he usually avoids her. But when a storm forces the two to spend some time just together in a cold cabin, she finds out just how attracted to her he actually is. But, outside of their bubble and back into their real lives will mean she has to figure out if she wants a place in Mateo and his daughter's lives. She's never wanted a family before, has always done things her own way, not the way her parents wanted her to. Are her feelings for Mateo enough to keep her here, or will she head off to Paris in search of her next adventure?

First things first - I love Annalee! She's strong, independent and does things her way, not willing to be the one blindly following her parents' wishes for her. She's the real standout for me, but Mateo is definitely her equal, a downright swoony single dad whose priority is his adorable, precocious daughter. Their chemistry practically singed my Kindle, and their emotional connection is even stronger than their physical one. This is the first story in this series that I've read, but after having fallen in love with Annalee, Mateo and Lily, it definitely won't be the last.

I didn’t know what to expect with Monroe/Annalee and Mateo’s story. She had managed to hide pretty well behind her bombshell persona in the previous book, so getting to see her in her own story was like meeting someone brand new. I think the author signaled that with the tragically awkward scene where she tells Mateo her real name. This pair led me on a merry chase getting to their Happy Ever After. They’ve both got some high, thick defensive walls cemented into place and neither one is terribly willing to be the first to step out from behind that safety. But by the end, they finally realize that the things they’ve done to protect themselves had become more of a cage than a comfort. Thankfully they have lots of friends that were more than willing to offer sound advice. Speaking of the supporting cast, they – especially Lily – grabbed the story and ran away with the show. Now, knowing who the hero is set to be for the next in the series has me absolutely itching to get my hands on that book. And the evolving mystery of the hidden treasure has me completely hooked.

"Only a Crush" by Delancey Stewart is the second book of the Kasper Ridge series. While each book can technically be read as a standalone, I'd recommend reading the series in order for the best experience. Clues to an overarching mystery involving a treasure map and mysterious inheritance are revealed in each book, building upon what was revealed in previous stories.

As this story begins, the management team of Kasper Ridge Resort is preparing for a soft launch with a group of influencers who will spend a weekend previewing the resort's amenities. One of the influencers is the host of a popular outdoor adventure show on YouTube and has requested to spend one of the nights camping, so widowed single father Mateo Bandini, the crew foreman for Kasper Ridge Construction, is tasked with checking out a group of old cabins in a remote part of the property to see if they can be cleaned up in time for his visit. Mateo's not happy to learn that ex-Navy fighter pilot Annalee "Monroe" Tyson, who now serves as the resort's events coordinator, will be helping him with the project. He avoids Annalee as much as possible because he can't help finding her attractive, and that's the last thing he needs when he should be focused on work and raising his 7-year-old daughter Lily. When a freak snowstorm traps them in one of the cabins together for several days (and nights), Mateo and Annalee unexpectedly grow closer, but can they find a place for their newfound connection in their everyday lives?

I loved the intense chemistry between Mateo and Annalee and thought that their relationship development was perfectly paced. I wasn't sure what to make of Annalee in the last book, but I ended up really liking her as I got to know her in this story. She played the "bombshell" because that's what made her comfortable, but she was actually incredibly smart and could hold her own with anyone, man or woman. She was convinced she'd make a terrible mother because of the way she was raised, but her relationship with Mateo's daughter Lily was incredibly sweet and actually proved the opposite. I think her experiences will make her a great mom/stepmom because she'll make different choices than her own parents did.

Overall, I loved "Only a Crush" and highly recommend it for all contemporary romance fans. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Mateo and Annalee - letting go of the past to embrace life and love

Oh my goodness I am in love with Mateo and Annalee and all their scarred vulnerability. This book has all the swoony sweet single dad widow vibes mixed with the hot construction worker vibes paired with the smart bombshell accomplished female military pilot vibes. Yum - a perfect combination especially once you add in forced proximity that opens up to their marshmallow insides. This heart warming story includes two strong main characters who are real, relatable people who have flaws and make mistakes, but are really just trying to just do their best being messy humans. Experiencing the journey of Mateo and Annalee as they fall in love and work to get past their individual baggage gave me all the feels - you will laugh, cry, swoon, grind your teeth, cheer, and happy sigh. Mateo is a single dad working in his home town on renovating the Kasper Ridge Resort. Annalee has joined her military buddies, who own the Resort, to help in the renovation project and serve as the event planner/chef. There has been chemistry for Mateo and Annalee since they met but they’ve both been denying it until a freak snowstorm strands them alone in a remote cabin for several days and nights thus jump starting their journey to their HEA. But hang on it’s a bit of a ride to get there. The book has a little bit of everything - sweet moments, steamy scenes, strong friendships, supportive family, laughs, painful pasts, a cute/precocious child, a bit of mystery, and all the sweet love. This book was well written with witty dialogue, characters with depth who grow, and an engaging storyline. I am really excited to read the next story and to get more clues in the treasure hunt. I willingly reviewed an early copy of this book.

Only a Crush is the second book in the Kasper Ridge series. This story follows Monroe (Annalee) and Mateo, both of whom we met in the previous book. This is a forced proximity, only one bed story that develops into more.

Mateo is a hot, single dad to seven year old Lily. He feels tremendous guilt and blames himself for his wife's death five years ago. Annalee is an ex-fighter pilot, who is up on Kasper Ridge to help her friend, Ghost, reopen a resort that was left to him and his sister by his uncle. She is used to doing things her own way, defying expectations. Annalee and Mateo head up to some rustic cabins on the resort to check them out for the resort's opening event. When a freak summer snowstorm strands them their together. They have always been attracted to each other, and these two days there lets them act on it. When they get back down the mountain, they struggle to figure out if they work in the real world.

This book had some funny, laugh out loud moment. I also loved the addition of Lily, Mateo's daughter. It also did have serious issues surrounding gender norms, grief and loss. The story flowed pretty good, and the setting of Kasper Ridge was absolutely gorgeous. There was the continuation of the mystery/treasure hunt from the first book, and we learned a little bit more about what was going on.

I did struggle that Mateo was suddenly ready to move on. He struggled with some serious guilt issues regarding his wife. Having good sex and "getting over it" would not happen that quickly. He needed some counselling and help to learn how to cope with all the feelings he had and learn he did not cause his wife's death.

Overall, this was a pretty solid book that made me a little teary eyed in some parts. Thank you to NetGalley and Victory Editing Co-op for a copy of this book. All opinions are 100% mine.

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
STEAM: 🔥🔥🔥

Mateo has a problem, and his problem is in a form of a smart, blonde bombshell. Annalee has been temptation personified, and the last thing he needs is to be trekking up the Colorado mountains to check out cabins with the flirtatious woman alone. To add to his problem, an unexpected snowstorm traps them in the cabin for a couple of days. Can he handle keeping things professional between the two of them, or will he give in to the dirty thoughts that have been plaguing his mind since they met?

I enjoyed this read. Mateo and Annalee had great chemistry even as they were doing everything they can to fight a happily ever after together. I admire Mateo's determination to be a great father to his daughter Lily, and I liked that the book tackled the struggles of being a single father and losing his beloved early in life with realism and grace. I also love Annalee's resilience; her determination to become the person she wants to be is admirable.

Their connection was palpable from the get-go and just built into a wonderful fire of sexy times. I also love that along the way, they developed a great emotional relationship.

This was my first book in this series, and it read well as a standalone. There are references to events and characters in Book 1, but Delancey Stewart did a great job in providing enough context.

If you like a great read with a sexy one-bed trope, this is definitely a candidate for your TBR.

** I am voluntarily reviewing an advance copy of this book. Thank you to Delancey Stewart and Wildfire Marketing Solutions for providing an ARC. **

What we plan for ourselves isn't always what life has planned for us...

Mateo and Annalee are meant for each other, they just don't know it yet. Mateo is a single parent of a sassy smart 7 year old daughter who is the love of his life. He is also helping renovate a mountain resort that his friend owns. His life is pretty planned out, work hard and take care of his daughter. Mateo discovers that his plans are not set in stone.

Annalee is a navy fight pilot but first impressions of her is that she is all surface and no depth. When Mateo and Annalee meet, it is insta-lust. When they are stuck together in a snow storm in a cabin in the woods, their insta-lust turns into something more.

Mateo needs to let go of the life he had planned and accept what is right in front of him. Both Annalee and Mateo need to realize that your heart decides who you want in your life. The emotional gauge in this book is set high and I found their story an uplifting heartwarming experience.

Mateo is a widow and father of a 7 yr old daughter, Lily. After he finished in the military he returned home and went to work for Kasper Ridge Construction and has been renovating the Kasper Ridge Resort. Now his boss is wanting him to check out 4 rustic cabins on the back of the property, and it's not the easiest to get to.
"Monroe"/ Annalee is the events coordinator for the resort and a former Navy fighter pilot and they want her to go along with Mateo.
As they are hiking to the cabins they are hit with a summer storm with the thunder rolling in and it getting worse, snow is beginning to fall and certainly wasn't what they had expected. What happens when they get stranded together in one of the cabins? There's an attraction but neither was looking for a relationship.

Annalee was a former jet pilot who just didn't stay in one play for long. She was helping a friend start a resortup on Kasper Ridge. She was to be the events coordinator. Mateo was part of the construction crew that was working on the resort. They had an immediate attraction but Mateo wouldn't act on it as his wife had died and left him with their daughter to raise. He felt guilty and just couldn't move on. When the two of them got stranded looking at some old cabins, their attraction exploded. But back in civilization, it was more difficult. The story was good and their is a mystery to solve. The characters were interesting and made reading the book very worthwhile.

I'm so glad to get to know Monroe. Meeting her through other people's eyes in Only A Fling made her an enigma. She's got so much to her and I respect her character now that I know how she got to be who she is.

And Mateo. Man, was he the perfect guy for this book. He himself has a history that pulls you in and makes you understand how he became the closed-off Dad he is at the beginning. Delancey made him real, and took the time to make his growth honest and true to the character.

Then you throw in a precocious daughter, some influencers, the ongoing mystery at the resort, and a summer snowstorm. Well done, Delancey, another heart-filling adventure in Kasper Ridge.

Mateo and Annalee are an unlikely pairing. The hot single father and the no relationships ex fighter pilot is an explosive combination. Fighting the instant attraction is working for a while but stranded together in a cabin for days are asking too much.

I’m feeling for the both of them but Mateo is a total jerk when he’s jumping to a wrong conclusion and I’m happy to say he’s got to work to right his wrong.

Of course everything work out in the end and we’re doing some progress on the side quests treasure hunt. I’m hooked on this series and want my next fix already.

I so happy to be back in Kasper Ridge!

Mateo & Annalee (Munroe) are two people not looking for a relationship. Mateo is a widower and single dad, to his little girl Lily who is full of life. All he cares about is looking after her so isn't interested in a relationship.  Annalee is a former Navy fighter pilot who is up in Kasper Ridge helping her for co-worker Ghost as he sets about bring the resort back to life!  Mateo and Annalee's connection, though they initially try to ignore it, is electric and when they get stranded together well only one thing is going to happen!

I adored Mateo and Annalee oh and not forgetting Lily!  I am also loving the mystery storyline that has continued on from book one! I can't wait to find out what the treasure is!

I enjoyed this story. But I always enjoy a Delancy Stewart novel.

Written in the lead characters POVs - Annalee and Mateo. This single dad romance was fun and easy to read. I love it when authors incorporate the little kids as well and little Lily was one of the stars of this book.

Annalee also known as Monroe from her days as a fighter pilot has a little crush on Mateo a former marine turned construction worker and single dad, who has noticed her but has kept that little information to himself. Fate, however, has a few tricks up its sleeve and so begins the events leading to their eventual romance and HEA. It starts with a hike and a snow storm no one saw coming, then reality of getting back to normal.

Delancy Stewart is a master at keeping us laughing and swooning throughout the book. Her heroines are fierce and strong and her heroes are just perfect even with their faults.

I would gladly pick up her books to lighten the mood and make me feel good.

I enjoyed Mateo and Annalee’s story. The complex combination of emotions, unwanted attraction, sparks, heart and fate made for a powerful brew that went down smooth and easy but packed a punch. I was very happy to return to Kasper Ridge and I am already eagerly anticipating book three. This is my independent, impartial review.

Only a Crush is a fun and flirty single dad romance from Delancey Stewart bringing us back to the small mountain town of Kasper Ridge. While this romance is certainly able to be enjoyed as a stand alone other aspects of the story will really only make sense if you have been following along with the series from the beginning.

Annalee and Mateo have a cute story. Annalee aka Monroe doesn't do attachments especially the family kind. She is a strong and independent woman who follows adventure wherever it leads as long as it keeps her away from the future her mother wanted for her. Mateo's life revolves around his daughter Lily. Guilt over the loss of his late wife Poppy keeps him secluded and determined to give his daughter the life he thinks she deserves.

These two have such a powerful instant attraction that they know if anything were to come of it, they would be irrevocably changed forever. That is until a freak storm leaves them stranded together and that attraction can no longer be denied. I loved that they both had these preconceived notions about each other to help curb their attraction, which ultimately they found out to be untrue. Both Mateo and Annalee have scars on their hearts, things that have changed them and created who they are now and it really just helps make them perfect for each other.

The story moved pretty quickly once they found their way out of the storm and I while I loved it, I kind of wish there was a little something else too- more time with and around Mateo's daughter, more flirting and time snuck away together, etc. These two do not lack any heat though and the last minute grand gesture made my heart so happy. The treasure hunt is still going strong and for every clue it seems like more questions arise- so it will be fun to continue on with the Kasper Ridge crew as Delancey leads us to the conclusion.

Mateo and Annalee were two people who had a lot to figure out about what they wanted in life and Mother Nature helped them along. He was a wonderful father, but felt tremendous guilt about his deceased wife that he didn’t feel he deserved to move on. Annalee has always pushed people away before letting them too close.

When they get stranded in a cabin when a freak snowstorm hits, they finally admit their attraction and act on it. They both agree to nothing serious but quickly realize that they want more. As they work together and get to know each other, their feelings grow. Unfortunately, one of them sabotages the relationship when he or she gets scared.

The added mystery of the treasure hunt adds just enough to keep you guessing. The attraction and relationship between them is great and it makes the separation even more heartbreaking. His daughter is cute and innocent and I love how she brings out the best in everyone. His ex mother-in-law brings much needed closure.

I loved this book and can’t wait to see what happens in the next book. I received an ARC and am leaving my honest, voluntary review.
