Parker loved that voice and she adored hearing it say her name. But in this moment, it scared the shit out of her.
In the sleepy coastal town of Doveport, the pot isn’t just stirred—that bitch is boiling over.
Maggie and Parker are new... like, brand-spanking-new. But for all of their flirting and butterflies and romantic intention, the universe has devised one giant beaver-dam.
Maggie is already falling for the woman of her dreams, but that same woman might very well be leaving by the year’s end. With a mourning best friend, a transitioning career, and parents who are squarely on the wrong continent, Maggie can barely catch her breath, let alone figure out how to convince Parker to stay.
Add in a pickle-thieving cat and a first date consisting mostly of fish bones, and you’ll start to get the picture.
Parker’s found the kind of excitement and acceptance she never knew was possible, but it’s with a woman thirteen years her junior. Plus, she came to Doveport to start over, not to stay. Working on a short-term contract meant that she would have the freedom to go anywhere after this stopover.
She’d never expected to be in another relationship, especially this soon, but when you find someone that feels like home, how can you leave?

4 stars Well, at least they resolved the damn cliffhanger from the last book quickly... But I'm still majorly annoyed about it. The story itself was fine, I liked it. It was nice seeing Parker and Maggie more settled, less uncertain. I still maintain, that it could've been one long book though...
Oh and I have the sneaking suspicion that the follow-up book mentioned in the author's note at the end, that was supposed to come out on summer 2022, won't be happening anytime soon...
Kindle Unlimited - I think I liked this sequel better than the first; Learning to Flirt
The characters had more spine, and were sticking up for themselves while fighting for what they wanted. It was nice to see them all come together as a friendship group and found family. Also nice to see Maggie and Parker finally be together and try dating and more, between interruptions.
I think it found it's groove and the writing and direction had better pacing, so I'd be interested to read the authors followup - which features best friend character Lauren and a slightly antagonistic contractor, Jos(Elyn).
Would recommend giving these a read, I think most followers and lovers of lesfic will enjoy these as nice casual, happy, feel good reads.
Now I have read Part 1 and synced it into part 2 I can say how much I enjoyed the book(s). Would have been better off - and more honest - as one book. But I await with interest Part 3, the heroine another character. Recommended if Part 1 read first!
Was gonna say I bet the next book is Jos and Lauren but then the afterward says the next book is Jos and Lauren. Lol. I look forward to it. This cast of characters is so well done. Had a great time reading both books. Book 1 is more funny but the authors really hit their stride in book 2. Felt more fleshed out. The coitus interuptus was funny in itself though.
This second in the Doveport Series is even better than the first. I have totally fallen in love with these characters. I can’t wait to see what Lauren and Jos get up to in the next book!
I love this series sm and I cry every day that Lauren and Jos’s book never came out as planned!

Absolute slay, such a great romance series. PLEASE lawd I need Lauren and Jos’s book so badly.

FIRST FIVE STAR READ OF THE YEAR BABY!!!!
This duology is utterly brilliant, easily one of the best romance series I’ve ever read. I cannot recall any other book that had a main couple that really purely and genuinely liked each other as much as Parker and Maggie did. Like sorry I’m a bit in awe of how good a book can be when it’s just about good people who like each other and trust each other.
It’s a travesty that these are Kallie Monts only two books at the moment because they were absolutely made for this - and I am on my hands and knees begging that we do eventually get Lauren and Jos’s story. Looks like it was due out summer 2022 but has yet to release and please god I need it so badly.
It’s also a crime these are just quietly chilling on KU when everyone should be reading them and we should be getting special editions galore. I am immediately going to go and order physical copies of both books because are a must have for my queer book collection.
This ending was much more resolved with a great lead in to the next book, which I'm guessing is forthcoming. Unlike the *cliffhanger* at the end of the first book which I'm still a little mad about. These books have a sort of meandering plotline, but in a sort of refreshing way. While there are toxic people who the main cast need to learn to recognize and cut out of their lives, those people don't feel like a constant presence in the story like antagonists usually do. Characters have to figure their own stuff out, and leaning to set healthy boundaries is just part of that process. The humor in these books is spot on. I feel like I'm not to hard to please humor-wise, I crack a smile at small ironies and mediocre puns, but not many authors get me truly cracking up; rereading comedic scenes several times and thinking about people I know who might appreciate such a great set up and comedic timing. K and A definitely made the short lists of books guaranteed to get me laughing out loud. But more than just a laugh, these characters, even the side characters and barely mentioned denizens of the town, are endearing in a way that makes them irresistible and addicting. They engage the emotions fully, and as a reader, I found myself amused, infuriated, or enamoured depending on the character and the context. I was rooting for the whole main cast, truly wanting them to overcome their challenges and achieve their goals, even small ones. While the humor kept me reading these ok one sitting, I think I would have genuinely enjoyed these books even without it.
This author is akin to the best baker of chocolate chip cookies in the world, always leaves me wanting more. Seeing Maggie and Parker establishing themselves together, seeing their family grow together and united, and watching the view shift to Lauren in the end- I'm onboard! Sail the ship and take me to the next book because I got a hankering for some more sweetness:)
The sequel to Learning to Flirt picks up right where the cliffhanger leaves us. Parker and Maggie are navigating their new relationship, sexual tension runs high and there are so many sexy time interruptions! I do kind of wish this book was blended in with the first, but I truly enjoyed watching Parker and Maggie with their ups and down in this one. If you liked the first in this series, you will enjoy this sequel just as much. (Also, there are more books in this series planned focusing on different characters! So excited.)
This was a great book. I'm always excited to read a book where the characters actually communicate and there isn't to much drama with them. If there is drama I like that they're usually working together or fighting for each other. Can't wait to read what happens with Lauren and Jos. I'm a sucker for high heels and she sounds like someone I would go for if I had the courage ha
I loved the character evolution over the course of these two books, especially Maggie, learning to stand up for herself. But damn, I have never seen a couple have to fight so hard to find a little alone time! Once I got over the abrupt ending of the last book, having not known their story would stretch over two books, I did enjoy this. I kept rooting for them to actually sort themselves out, and maybe someday for one of them to fully admit their feelings! It's cute at first when two people are too afraid to move too fast, say too much, and scare the other person off. But drag that out too much, and I get frustrated fast! They just cut it close, here.
I do love Parker as a character. I think the thing that appealed to me the most was her love her job and her success in getting through to a group of young people who didn't even particularly care for her subject. I loved school, I miss school, and I hate that I didn't get to experience college. But if I had, if I ever do get the chance someday, she is the type of teacher I would dream of. An engaged professor can make your break your college experience, not just in that class, but overall. I loved her for that.
I am more interested in the coming story, though, following Lauren. I do love an enemies-to-lovers romance!
3.5 stars Having finished the book I still think it could have just been a single 350 book instead of dividing it. BUT I liked the cliffhanger too just felt that the ex girlfriend was there for like a sec and then it was was if it never happened.
Cute sapphic shit and finally got to see them as a couple which I liked.
BUT dude nothing will match how I felt with the 2 Lauren and Jos scenes that was AMAZING. well im a sucker for an enemies to lovers so I might be a bit biased. And im totally picturing Jos as Jamie from Bly manor. I just hope that their banter continues we get some more detailed smutty scenes and possibly a clay and joss confrontation if that isn't too much to ask
psa we are getting 2 sapphic contractor romances this year and I can't be more excited. I just feel that its going to hit all my fav tropes so my hopes are very high for the next book. AND its summer so it soon
I rated it a 3 star just because I think plot points were brought up and not fully developed but I really liked it I mean I read it in a day while procrastinating my uni work so thanks :p
Book 2 in the Doveport book series trumped book 1 in my opinion. Maybe it was because the characters were a bit more developed, or there was an anticipation for what was to come next, I'm not sure.
Learning to Trust was fun and well written. A little bit like slap stick comedy, with love being interupted, best friends making fun of each other and akward animal facts being spurted at inappropriate times by an often tongue tied Maggie.
This is a easy to read, low angst series and even better, the set up for a third was started towards the end, with Lauren spending a lot of time glaring at a hot builder named Jos✌️
It's a good sequel to the first one, whoever I couldn't get past the fact that these two could never have a night alone. I don't wanna sound like a perv but it's not that hard for two grown women to find some alone time. It felt like a silly problem? Like all the interruptions wouldn't happen that often and even if they did, these two kept making out on the bookshop for weeks and complaining that they didn't have any alone time, well then just close the store for a couple hours and go upstairs?? It was a sweet book nonetheless.
I got lost in the book, the same situation I've got with first one. Amazing and accurate description, there is nothing superfluous, the main characters are really more revealed than in the first book, more actions, more thoughts. Both books are equally great for me, I've had really wonderful time while reading and was looking forward to leaving work earlier to finish reading the chapters as soon as possible 😅 Right now, I want to erase my memory so I can read those books again with this stupidly curious expression on my face. Grateful for all the diligence put in by the author 👍
I’m in love with Doveport! Fantastic new series and even though the authors say they’re new at this, you’d never know it….stories flow like they’re written by pros. Great characters, stories that kept my interest and lots of laugh out loud moments. Can’t wait for the next book.
Just as good as the first one, or maybe better. The depth of Doveport’s history and personal stories is steeping on a sense of breakthroughs in some of the most profound ways. So much growth, love and even some spice in these slow burn, fast wit novels. Absolutely enamoured with the entire Doveport cohort. 💕
This second book picks up right after the end of book #1. It's as quirky as the first one and gently follows Parker and Maggie as their relationship continues to unfold. There are still bumps in their road but their friends have their backs as always. Immensely satisfying.
I happened across book 1 "Learning to Flirt" by chance and immediately purchased book 2. The cast of characters are well developed and engaging. I loved how the story unfolded and carried over from book 1 to book 2. I couldn't wait to see how Parker and Maggie "finally" came together. There were some adorable, laugh out loud moments and I look forward to the next book.
Kallie Mont has created an idyllic town with characters that are funny and lovable. If you're looking for a distraction from today's realities pick up the Doveport series.
It’s so nice to find books that are brimming with kindness and caring! Doveport Books 1&2 are just that. A nice story with lifelong friends, a slow-brewing romance, and just enough family drama to make it believable. Looking forward to more!
A wonderful, sweet and funny romance. I loved it, I loved the characters, the Mcs I fell in love with, but alos the supporting characters were absolutely perfect for this book, this story and town. I cant wait for the next
Funny with likable characters. Even the secondary cast are well-developed. Low-angst. Low/medium steam. Tropes: small town; age gap (though the age gap issue doesn’t really create conflict).
3.25 stars I struggled to suspend my disbelief in this one. I still love these characters, but I wish this novella took place a few months after the first one. It would make so much more sense logistically and would feel less crowded.
