You might have heard of me. I’m Amethyst King, the 26-year-old who wrote that viral article about drinking celery juice for 30 days. Sure, I’m a little embarrassed that everyone knows about the inner workings of my digestive tract for the last month, but I’m one step closer to getting a promotion and finally pleasing my incredibly opinionated, high status parents.
But my next assignment is a little different: speaking my truth for 30 days. Now I have to say exactly what’s on my mind, all the time. Maybe that wouldn’t be so hard if I didn’t dream of quitting my job and pursuing a career in calligraphy. Or if I weren’t hopelessly in love with my long time friend, free-spirited musician Lucas: the exact opposite of who my parents expect me to be with. The same Lucas I rejected after high school graduation, who just moved back home.
I got this! I can somehow manage thirty days of speaking my truth and getting a promotion, all without ruining my friendship with Lucas or my relationship with my family.
If you want a clean romance and a girl learning to break out of the expectations of her family, then this one is solid!
The characters were great and the overall plot was interesting. I didn’t enjoy reading about this girl’s parents though. They were so annoying! Funny enough, I liked her date with Ethan the best! It was great writing and I found it engaging to read.
I enjoyed this book. It gave me “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” vibes which I really liked. Amy is given an assignment to speak her truth for 30 days and then write an article about her experience. Around the same time, her once high school boyfriend, who she’s still in love with, returns home after being away for 8 years.
The characters are well written. I like Amy and Lucas a lot. Lucas is very sweet. Amy genuinely cares about people and has to face some very hard obstacles with her family, who aren’t the most understanding.
I would have loved to read some from Lucas’s point of view but I get that the focus of this story is really Amy’s journey while doing this assignment. She learns a lot about herself and other people. She learns which relationships are worth fighting for and which are best to let go.
As a huge “The Office” fan, I really loved all the quotes and references about the show!!
I also really liked Amy’s roommate, Ivy, and look forward to reading her story very soon!
What would you do if you had to speak your truth for 30 days no matter the situation? That's exactly the assignment that Amethyst "Amy" King is given by her boss. If she can complete the challenge and write a great article about the experience, she'll earn a promotion to impress her demanding, high society family. The only problem is that speaking her truth means not only standing up to her parents but also telling her best friend Lucas Carter that she never stopped loving him despite letting him walk away 8 years ago. Will this challenge ruin her relationships, or will she finally live the life she's been dreaming of?
I really enjoyed this debut novel from Marie Soleil! I was invested in Amy and Lucas's relationship right from the beginning as I read about the intimate and heartbreaking moment they shared after their high school graduation. When Lucas came back into Amy's life 8 years later, it was clear they still cared for each other, and I loved the interactions between them. I did get a little frustrated with Amy's desire to please her parents and how she allowed that to interfere with her relationship with Lucas, but I was happy to see her stand up for herself at the end. The entire concept of speaking your truth was really fun and provided for some great scenes between Amy and her friends, co-workers, and even strangers, and I liked how Amy's boss had a special reason for assigning this challenge. The end of the book was so sweet and satisfying, and I was so happy about how things ended up for Amy and Lucas. I only hope that this will be the beginning of more adventures and that we might get to see some of Amy's friends and family get their own love stories soon!
Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I’ve had this book sitting on my TBR shelves for a few months. I finally picked it up over the weekend. And I’m glad I did! I enjoyed this book. It is a quick and fun read that you don’t want to miss!
Amethyst or Amy has a really great voice. I loved her character. She’s a young woman who works for an online women’s magazine. I love that she does some crazy things for her articles. Things like drinking celery juice for a month. Her newest assignment is to speak only her truth for the next 30 days. I really enjoyed the way she progresses through this. She starts by telling people what she really thinks. But by the time she’s done, she realizes that she also needs to be true to herself. Who she is. And that is a whole lot harder!
This book has such a great cast of characters. Amy’s friends, Hannah and Ivy are the cutest. And Ivy’s little sister, Katy steals the spotlight in the scenes she is in. Amy’s family is pretty horrible, except for maybe her brother. And then there’s Lucas.
I loved Lucas. And the way he pushes Amy to be more who she is than who her family wants her to be.
This is a sweet, clean (just kissing) self journey, with added second chance romance.
I loved the idea of her speaking her gruth. It was exciting to see Amy discover herself and navigate through how to validate herself without letting others influence how she views her worth.
Lucas was really cute. I liked how he supported Amy and pushed her to decide for herself what she wants. The concert event was really sweet. I do wish we had more of Lucas povs throughout the whole story, not only the bonus chapter. But I understand the focus was more on Amy's journey to stand up for herself and find her truth.
This story has really great side characters. I loved Gia and Ivy, their roles were so awesome. I also loved the friendship. Even I liked Ethan, that was a surprise.
I liked how every the unfolded. A little fast paced for me, I would have liked a little more of the actual romance between Lucas and Amy, but it was good. I like the character growth Amy had, despite how frustrating her tendency to please her family was sometimes. But I can understand where the bad habit comes from. I am glad she took the reigns of her life and fixed all the bad moments wanting to be someone she is not left in her life. And also how she breaks through it.
I will definitely check more works of this author in the future.
* I was kindly gifted an ARC from the author. This doesn't influence in any form my review/opinion of the book*
Summary: Women hesitate to speak our minds....our truth because we don’t want to offend anyone or are worried about what others will think of us. So we lie or sugar coat how we really feel to avoid hurting feelings or hurting our image. We filter our true thoughts and feelings. This sums up Amy’s struggle as she has put her hopes and dreams by the wayside in effort to please her fancy, rich, impossible-to-please parents (think Richard and Emily Gilmore).
So when Amy gets assigned to speak her truth for 30 days... she struggles to find the line between speaking her truth and finding the grace to be true to herself without hurting those she loves.
Review: I loved the friendship between MC Amy and her best friend/roommate Ivy. I’m secretly hoping there will be another book coming about Ivy. I loved all the side characters in this book. Ethan. Hannah. Ivy. Scott. I feel like there’s so much open to future books, and I’m here for it.
This was a debut novel, and I was so impressed. It was really good and the writing style was everything I love. I did feel like this was more of a coming of age story than a romance, though I wasn’t upset about that. Just something to be aware of. Amy really struggled to find herself and her path, and this book is all about Amy and her journey to find happiness and her true self.
Thank you so much, Mary Soleil for providing this ARC for an honest review.
Normally not the kind of book that I’m into but this was written by one of my cousins best friends so I figured I’d give it a chance. It was short and sweet and cute as heck with some very great themes. Speaking your truth can be so difficult and there is a fine line between being blunt and being true to yourself. Overall I thought this book was great for a first time author, keep it up Marie! You’re going places 🥰🥰
This RomCom was super sweet! I loved that it was from Amy's POV and focused a lot on her personal growth.
I felt like her past, and family issues made this second chance romance believable and realistic. Her experience with her family was integral to her life and the story and as she Spoke Her Truth she really did change.
I loved the life lessons in this story, the love we see from Ivy and her family and all the side characters that supported Amy!
The romance was sweet and I loved it!
👄Sweet kisses ⚠️Family with issues, some mentions of alcohol
This was such a cute rom com! I love rom coms, and this one gave me all the feels. It was full of sweet moments, supportive friends, and amazing character growth. This is also Marie Soleil’s first series, and I’m so impressed! Amy has spent her whole life trying to be enough for her incredibly rich and incredibly selfish parents which means trying to do whatever it takes to get a promotion and finally make them proud of her. But her next assignment is a little trickier, she’ll have to speak her mind for the next 30 days. It would be fine if she didn’t dream of quitting her job and starting her own calligraphy business and finally confessing her love to Lucas, the musician who is everything her parents hate. Will any of her relationships survive her finally speaking her truth? Okay, Amy is so relatable. I mean who hasn’t felt like they’re not enough, and it’s easier just to keep your head down. I loved watching her find the courage to speak her mind and seeing the amazing fruits of it. And I loved how Soleil showed how speaking your mind doesn’t mean you get to be a jerk. Amy learned how to still be kind without hiding her real thoughts and feelings. Lucas was a sweetheart! He was so in love with Amy, and it was absolutely adorable. I did have some struggles with how perfect he was. He was super, super sweet, but I would have loved to dig into his flaws a little bit. The other relationships in this book were amazing too. Ivy was such a character, and I loved her! She is an amazing friend to Amy, and I cannot wait to read about her romance with Scott. That looks sooo cute! I liked the pace of the plot too. It is a little bit fast and unrealistic, but it’s also a romcom. So I’m okay with authors taking a little bit more liberty to give readers the happily ever afters. This is a clean, sweet romance, and I would recommend it to anyone who loves a good romcom!

Synopsis Abby wrote an article about drinking celery juice which went viral. One day, her boss ask her to write an article about speaking the truth which she needs to experience herself for 30 days. Abby is usually a person who cares about people’s feelings and what people think about her especially her mother who already planned out her life, but she challenged herself in doing so. Her love of her life is back in town, will she be able to speak the truth? Will she ever get to have her happily ever after? Will she manage to get her dream job? Read Speak the Truth to find out.
Review: 1st book of Canyon Cove Love Stories. I totally feel for Abby especially she had to do whatever that her mother say. Her life was suffocating and her boss realises that so decided to ask her to write a “Speak The Truth” article. Ever since she started everything began to change and she is more bolder in speaking what she thinks which I feel that she had grown. Love the way Lucas cared for her and he understands her insecurity. Her friend Ivy and Kate (Ivy’s adorable sister) kept on encouraging her to go for Lucas. And love the way Rachel (Ivy’s mom) giving her the comfort and telling her to do what she loves most.
P.S I can’t stand her family.
Don’t ever let anything take you down from pursuing your dream. It takes time and patience to get successful but the most important thing is that you are happy and doing what you love.
Can’t wait to read the 2nd book. It will be Ivy’s story. You can purchase Marie Soleil’s books on Amazon and it is available on KU.
Speak Your Truth was such a fun audio book to listen to! It is a clean romance read and told from the female main character’s point of view. I adore second chance romances and this one had all the swoony vibes that I love in these stories. The narration was wonderfully read and added to my enjoyment of the novel.
Amy was living her life in a way that she hoped would some day make her parents proud. Her parents were awful and such snobs. It was hard to listen as Amy would choose them over the people and life that she wanted, hoping to gain their favor.
I loved seeing Lucas and Amy reconnect. These two were definitely each other’s true loves. There was a lot for them to overcome in order to find their happily ever after and it all hung on whether Amy could stand up for herself and choose her truth and happiness.
There were so many sweet and funny moments in this story! I truly adored this reunion romance.
I won a copy of this audio book. I was not required to write a review. All opinions are my own.
(A note to my Christian blog/Goodreads followers. There is one instance of the Lord’s name being taken in vain by a side character when they were really nervous about something. It was over quickly and even though I would have preferred that the phrase “Oh My Gosh, Oh My Gosh” had been used instead, I realize that this is a clean title, not a Christian fiction title, so it does not affect my review or enjoyment of the book. I simply wanted to note it for my blog and Goodreads followers.) This title was very clean and the characters exhibited moral behavior and the choices that they made reflected their values.
I really enjoyed reading Speak Your Truth. It is about a woman who was afraid of disappointing others, so she often buried her true feelings & self (I can definitely sometimes relate to this), which resulted in an unhappy life. Only until she has to write an article for work about speaking her truth all the time, does she realize that even though speaking your mind can be awkward & unsettling at times it can lead to deepening your relationships or can weed out the toxic ones. Amy & Lucas's relationship took me back to a time when I was an innocent teenager in love with my now husband, but was too scared to say anything...then years later I "spoke my truth" & now I'm living a beautiful life with the love of my life.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Amy drove me crazy. I guess when one has emotionally abusive or negligent parents one would want to make them happy but she seemed dense for not cutting the cord earlier. The book was more self-discovery than romance as all the romance happens earlier and even though eight years pass, and the MCs don’t spend time together reconnecting, they still are in love.
I love that Amy had to tell and then live her truth. I can’t even imagine giving up the love of my life for disapproving parents! Hard pass! She and Lucas are adorable and I’m so excited to read Ivy’s story!
Oh biscuits! Speak Your Truth was a phenomenal book! I really enjoyed this story. I listened to the audiobook version of Speak Your Truth. The narrator did an excellent job of bringing the characters to life. I loved all the different voices and accents she used. Speak Your Truth was more than a love story. It was a story of Amy’s journey of finding courage to speak her truth and accepting herself. Amy has lived her life feeling like she isn’t enough and trying to please her demanding parents. She yearns for their acceptance and live up their expectations. When Amy’s boss gives her an article assignment to speak her truth for 30 days, Amy grows and gains courage to be herself. Lucas was the sweetest! He loved Amy for who she was. She was more than enough for him. The romance is clean with only kissing. This book was awesome and highly recommend!
What would you do if you had to say exactly what's on your mind when someone asks? I love the concept for this book and how Amethyst has to navigate how to "speak her truth" without blowing up all the relationships in her life. I also love how sometimes the outcomes surprise Amethyst and turn out so much the better for having been honest with others (and herself). A great rom-com that keeps you thinking and smiling even after you've finished reading it. The audiobook is fantastic too...great pacing and voices! Jumped right into the rest of the Canyon Cove series.
I was in a reading slump and this book got me right out of it! I loved every minute of this and am so excited to read the rest of the series.
I enjoyed all the different character dynamics, I never felt a moment of “How are these people friends?” because you can feel the genuine love everyone has for each other
I related a lot to Amy and there were times I felt emotional because her journey led to her freedom. It was a great, sweet, happy ending story with enough heartache that makes this book hard to put down because you want to know what’s next?? Loved it 5/5 for me and ready to go to the next one
This was Marie Soliel's debut novel and it is adorable!! I found myself constantly smiling as I read this book. I just love Lucas & Amy ❤️
I actually started to re-read her Canyon Cove series because I love it so much and it's been a while....only to discover I never read the first book?! Surprise and yay for a new book to read!!
And now I *really* can't wait to read through the next books in this series. Super adorable!!
I enjoyed this story as an audiobook. This was my first time listening to this narrator. She did an amazing job giving Amy her voice. Since this story wasn’t dual pov there wasn’t much variation needed but she did a great job when another character was talking.
This story was a great story that had an amazing lesson in it. The challenge that Amy was given truly opened doors for her and helped her escape the cage that was her parents. You got to see the ups and downs of her experience and how because of it she opened herself up to love again. I also loved just how proud Lucas was of everything Amy did.
Ok I’m gonna speak my truth about this book. I loved it!!!
Amy works for a magazine and her boss gives her an assignment that for 30 days she has to speak her truth. When asked what she’s thinking she has to answer truthfully. Along with all of this she is living her life trying to live up to her family standards, an overachieving brother, and her high school love coming home. I am recently learning how much I love second chance romance.
I felt so bad for Amy. I can’t imagine always trying to live up to impossible standards. Amy and Lucas were so cute together. I think I’m greedy because I wanted more scenes of them together. 🤣
The prologue just about tore my heart out—in the best way. 😂 It is such a refreshing, sweet story and it flowed so well, I just couldn’t stop! I started it with the intention of reading a couple of chapters before bed, and ended up staying up late to finish it. I had some tears throughout, but it didn’t feel too heavy, it was just right.
Things I loved: -Great friendships -Second chance romance -Anne reference -Adorable, spunky younger sister -Learning to speak truth in love -Bad date gone right -Realizing who supports you (Spoiler: it doesn’t have to be family) -Swoon worthy moments (concert 😍) And of course, a sweet HEA ♥️
This is Marie Soleil’s debut novel, but I never would have guessed that if I didn’t know, it is written so well. I’m looking forward to anything she has coming next!
Speak Your Truth by Marie Soleil was a really good, sweet second-chance romance. Second chance romances are slowly, but surely, becoming one of my favorites, and this book helped bring the trope up a notch.
I felt for Amy and her character was by far my favorite in this book. To be honest, I related to her more than I care to admit. The way she wanted to be enough for her family made my people pleaser heart root for her the whole time! I’m SO glad she finally stood up for herself and chose her own path.
I really liked how Lucas didn’t want to give Amy up! But the best part was how he showed her she was enough. Oh, and the fact that he sang, and how much music was a part of this story really made me happy.
I loved this story and can’t wait to read the rest of the series!
This was such a sweet and beautiful story! It’s not just about romance. It’s also about importance of being your true self and feeling empowered to do so. At the end of the day, you’re the one living your life and putting your own happiness first is so important. I found Amethyst (Amy) relatable and truly empathized with her. I appreciated the journey she went through and the sacrifices she took.
I loved this one so much I read it twice (once on Kindle and once on audio). It makes you really think about telling your own truth and how often we don’t speak up for fear of hurting others even though we are hurting ourselves. I love a good second chance story and this one was perfect. Well written, great characters, sweet love story. I loved the narrator of the audiobook! For me, they can make or break a story and this one did a fantastic job!
