In this book I have compiled all the stories of the Medal of Honor winners of World War II. I put them in chronological order to be able to cover all of the battles as they happened. These men were the Grandfathers, Great grandfathers, even the grand uncles of today's generation. Their brave actions need to be told to those who are enjoying the freedom's they fought for. I have written this book with all the respect and admiration these men deserve.
It's rather incredible to read and imagine the real stories of this motley crew of individuals from all branches of the military. Out of nearly 12.5 million fighting men of WW2, and 400+ K deaths from combat, only 452 individuals were singled out for heroism with the highest military honor our nation can bestow, the Congressional Medal of Honor. My only knock against this book was the lack of formatting when it came to presenting the citations, though the chronological aspect I really found quite helpful and even made the reading more narrative in tone. Another oversight was the lack of pictures attached to each citation, as perhaps seeing these men helps personify their names and their individual acts of bravery. It's definitely worth a read from the standpoint of knowing where we came from as a fighting force when darkness swept across the globe. From what I read, they certainly were the Greatest Generation! Hopefully, we continue to stand on their shoulders.
