“Suffering isn’t a reason for pity, it’s a reason for respect..
Respect for their strength to endure it and as a result, the admiration for such a person is only growing stronger.”

I hate stories like this, but it’s deserve to read and the art is accurate.
I’m waiting for the end

The art is so beautiful. Tragic story of lust, grief, anger, and resentment entangled into one person. Disgusting behaviour from Reider. Geom deserves so much better.

결혼하는 남자 is easily one of the most unforgettable reads I’ve had this year. It’s definitely not for everyone, the story is saturated with heavy themes, recurring portrayals of abuse, and painful contradictions that can feel suffocating. But if you can get past that barrier of discomfort, what awaits is a beautifully agonizing, deeply human narrative that lingers long after reading.

For me, the brilliance of this story lies in Lee Geom. He is not written as a mere victim, nor as someone waiting passively to be rescued. Instead, he’s a character built on contradictions: self-aware yet trapped, desiring love yet bound to cycles of destruction, craving solace yet unable to let go of pain.

He once said: "Kindred souls somehow always recognize each other. Compassion that comes from a place of familiarity is not that much different from love." It’s a truth I resonated with, and throughout the story—I don't want to project myself onto characters but—I found myself deeply drawn to him.

What makes Lee Geom’s journey even more compelling is the contrast in the loves surrounding him. (a.) Im Wooyeon’s love is pure, sacrificial, and unwavering. No matter how ugly Lee Geom believes himself to be, Wooyeon’s gaze never falters. (b.) Lee Reider’s love is destructive but strangely familiar. It offers twisted comfort, like a dark embrace at the bottom of despair. His love is a trap disguised as refuge. And my personal favorite side is, (c.) Prosecutor Lee Kwonhyung’s love that is obsessive possession: chaining, controlling, punishing, yet paradoxically tender. He wants Lee Geom broken but only his. These jarring contrasts create a bittersweet landscape where love is salvation, destruction, and imprisonment all at once.

And one of the best things in the story is when Lee Geom’s inner monologues are hauntingly honest:
"The more I'm forcibly made to endure the stimulation of being pounded over and over again, the more my entire body goes numb. The only way to bring my conquered, desensitized body back to life is to hit it with even greater trauma."
"Can I really say that I didn't feel any joy when I seduced or killed the men who desired me? Can I really say that I didn't feel any twisted pleasure every time I was trapped in their lust? Can I really say that I wasn't intoxicated by my own misfortune? The catharsis that I felt after being conquered and pierced by countless desires: those contradictions sometimes tormented me and sometimes comforted me in this pit where the value of life is redefined."
Lines like these unravel a character who is both victim and participant in his own ruin. It’s uncomfortable, it’s messy, but it’s also what makes him feel so real.

It's a bonus that the plot is also compelling aside from the characters because most manhwas right now use cheap plots as decorations to the characters. And I'm not saying that's bad, but most execution are just so boring and uninteresting. But this story isn’t like that. Its storyline is gripping on its own, layered with tension and consequence, and it ties seamlessly with the characters’ development. Such a worthwhile read.

"Pain deserves not pity, but respect. There's admiration for having the power to endure it, and praise for coming out of it that much stronger."

This manhwa is not a comforting story. It’s a painful dive into love, trauma, and survival. But it’s also a testament to endurance. The idea that even in filth and contradiction, there is recognition, compassion, and perhaps a fragile form of rebirth. It left me gutted, but also strangely in awe. And for me, that’s the mark of a truly great read. I'm just so happy and satisfied for them. May they be together until their hair is all white and gray. And especially Lee Geom, I hope nothing but endless happiness to him. I love him so much, he's such a beautiful soul!

So the art is gorgeous, but like other review its very hard to read. The rape and abuse and sucidal ideation is aleast 34 out of the 44 chapters I seen. I dont have hopes for happy ending for those two. At this point death may be better for Geom so he can escape. Be very prepared to watch this. The one thing I dont get from the manhwa is this why this one man (Geom) is obsessed by everyone and their powerful like the mafia. Also with the consist rape with random people and the horrible ways of sexual abuse, it should have been admitted for a venereal disease. Ugh, I check on this manhwa time to time to see if something turned around but like i said its alot.

How do you rate this? It was difficult to read. This story began forward and blunt. I mean honestly, it gave me depression. At first, it was difficult to see the reasoning behind everything. Then I noticed the fake smiles and faked pleasures. This story deals heavily with abuse and depression but I think it is done in a very relatable manner.

The artwork is beautiful and Lee Geom is a gorgeous creature. But with the violence and the unending torture, I just don't know how he is still alive. And even to be Lim Wooyeon watching him go thru all of this knowing you could have stopped it.

It was heartwarming and sad to see Geom before he lost his innocence. He was so playful and charismatic that I didn't think it could possibly be the same person. Wooyeon was a soothing balm to Geom's hurts. He was such a patient gentleman. Willing to harm himself before he laid a finger on Geom. The dynamic of their relationship begged to be read. I also loved the trio of friends who eased each other's burdens.

I'm not sure where this is going I'll probably try to finish it but it's not something I will ever want to experience again. I just have the hopes of all sad little hopes it might turn out good in the end.

I wish I could describe accurately how much this hurt me, with every chapter. Yet here I am finishing this like a pro, crying my eyes out with ugly sobs and all that cause this isn’t for the weak hearts. It’s a masterpiece, but not for everyone. Lee Geom went through hell and back and it’s the first character I’ve ever encountered that suffered so much. With every chapter, it kept getting worse and worse and I started to wonder when would all that nightmare stop?

Wanted by so many, destroyed by many more (both body and soul) and loved by only one man. I knew Wooyeon would be endgame, but it hurt so badly to get there!

5/5 stars!!! 🌟❤️

Review for season 1:
This deals with a lot of heavy topics such as: abuse, rape, suicidal ideations, depression.. so be warned before reading this..

While the art is visually S T U N N I N G the story is just a big depiction of pain and sorrow.
I'm predicting a tragic ending, the story isn't a happy one and it's giving vibes of death or some other form of tragedy.

incredibly elegant and sophisticated art style, but the story was heavy and very dark –often making it very difficult to read. also, I FUCKING DETEST RIEDER, and there was something extremely off in the way he was framed as someone attractive. he did and tolerated such disgusting things that were not justifiable.

with that rant out of the way, wooyeon and geom are so precious together🥺 it felt like everything was going to be alright for them every time they had a moment to be together, so comforting.

I had my mind crushed with the amount of abuse and suffering geom had to go through, but I won't call this manga a DARK ROMANCE

NO NO NO

It was pure rape and abuse , it does show what happens to people in this shitty world

But the only best thing is the way geom had will power to somehow survive, because nobody would want to survive a minute in this mess.

I'm Soo happy to write this review after reading till almost the end , geom does get good ending but only in last chapters .

DON'T READ UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE DEPRESSED FOR SOME GOOD WEEKS ❤️❤️

I spent the last twenty chapters of this manhwa crying. And not some quiet sobbing, crying my eyes out. This story is not for the faint of heart. It will tear you apart into millions of pieces. Some chapters are so painful.... But the beauty of it is undeniable. Not only because of the amazing art style, but because of the delicacy we get while looking at some of the darkest corners of the human soul. These boys will live rent free forever in my heart.

Please let geom be happy in the end.. he suffered a lot.. if he was going to be alone or die in the end he should just let him self die from the very beginning.. please author-nim.. let him be happy in the end for the rest of his life...

The sexual violence and assault didn’t need to be described in such detail, with entire consecutive chapters focused on it. I understand it’s necessary to the plot, since it’s a major issue, but it became so repetitive that I honestly felt like the artist was romanticizing (or even enjoying) the violence.

I don’t mind smut, I swear, but for the first time, I had to skip chapters — and damn, it just kept happening… but this time by yet another ugly faggot? What the fuck?

I’m not dismissing the horrors of sexual assault — it is terrifying, tragic, horrific, and utterly vile, and the manhwa does portray that brutality well. But I just couldn’t bear it anymore.

Complaints aside,
Lee Geom, my love, I’m so sorry. The world was cruel to you.

This is one of these web comics on a disturbingly dark note. A level that when reading it makes the reader wonder if it could get any worse for the main character. Indeed, it would appear so. This isn't something for the faint of heart and something not to be taken lightly in its subject matter. It's dark and disturbing. Covering the various levels of gang violence and out right abuse of the main character.

In essence there has been a larger number of webcomics coming out with similar violent context and patterns. Another being the Night Painter. If you're triggered by content of violence and themes of non-con. Don't read this.

It’s a very dark and deep story. Strong characters and emotional intensity. If you into something emotionally deep and provocative with a pinch of spice, highly recommend. Just don’t forget to read trigger warnings, this story is certainly not for everyone.
