A witch with a healing gift. A warlock bred in violence. An immortal world on the brink.

Colette

I’m a healer, not a fighter… and right now, my coven needs all the fighters it can get. Our territory is under attack, and we’re despised among our kind because they think witches should only breed with humans. Let’s just say, our mothers broke a lot of unwritten rules with their choice of mates.

As the only coven of hybrids, we work twice as hard to survive our many enemies.

But things can always get worse.

A malevolent warlock clan has taken me captive to destroy my coven. I may not be a fighter, but I have to find a way to stop them from annihilating everyone I love.

I just need to convince Makhi, the clan’s resident torturer–and my unwelcome mate–to help.

Makhi

I never imagined my mate would be a witch, the greatest enemy of my kind, but I am a male who enjoys a challenge.

Colette is mine. Her pain, her pleasure… all of it, mine.

The Goddess gives us strange gifts, and I will enjoy playing with this one.

The little witch thinks she can control me through the mate bond.

Foolish female, you will learn who controls whom soon enough.

Note: Lifeblood is a deliciously dark and steamy paranormal romance. It features enemies-to-lovers, captor-captive, forced proximity, fated mates, a dirty-talking and villainous hero, and a heroine with more internal strength than she realizes. Each book in the Immortal Coven series has an HEA for the couple, but the series has an overarching plot. See "Note for Readers" in the book for the content warning.

Note to self:

DNF @Chapter 2… here’s why.

Another book with too many people + their nicknames introduced, or rather name-dropped, in CHAPTER ONE by Colette, the FMC…

My coven sisters, Naiya, Evangeline, Greer, Willow, and Cassandra, suffered enough in their duties to the territory.

Eva is going to lose her mind when she sees my stained jeans.

what I’d tell my brother tomorrow. Noam and I had a standing phone conversation every Saturday morning—

At one time, his concern split between me and Theo. With Theo gone, Noam only had me to worry about.

Now she lay with Naiya’s and Eva’s mothers on either side of her, Greer’s and Cass’ mothers bracketing them.

The reader is being told about all these people in her life while she’s telling you that she’s jumping around doing a dozen random things….

She’s doing some spell. Telling how the world came to be and setting up two lines of conflict between her coven and some witch council and all witches and warlocks. Bam, we cut to a phone call with her brother. Bam, she’s back to world-splaning. Bam, she’s having convos with her witch sister. Bam, some new element of “The Conclave” is thrown in.

OMG!!!! ITS THE CONCLAVE! Ends chapter one. Problem… what the fuck is a conclave, why do I care, who are these people, who is the FMC, why should I like/dislike anyone here, where is here… why do I care about the people around you when I don’t even know who YOU yet?

Bam, chapter two begins with all these f’rs practicing their magic in some mock magic battle with yet even more characters. We get more internal dialogue to develop the secondary characters. Random shit is just thrown in, making me wonder if the author even read the shit she wrote. Like here is the actual dialogue as the FMC is internally telling you about the mock magic battle all between what’s spoken in dialogue…

“You should do something about that hair, Letty.”

“Who has time for that? We have more important things to worry about.”

“I’m sorry, Eva.”

“No. You’re right. Always the practical one, our Letty.”

“Damn Council.”

“Naiya will beat them back.”

“Anyway.” ….“You’d have the humans lining up. Just raid my wardrobe, put on a skirt, style that beautiful golden hair, some blush and lipstick to highlight all that pale skin. Even you need to get laid sometimes.”

It reads like nonsense. Cue the dramatic music from a conclave, pause it to discuss hair and girlie shit, resume to tell me how dire everything is. Uhm, nah, Snow White.

Add that there are miles of internal dialogue with nothing to do with that convo between each line, and this is a confusing, boring, juvenile NIGHTMARE.

DNF at this point because this is horrible presentation. It’s weighted down with word vomit that says a shit load without ever really telling or showing you anything at all. If it ever gets dark and dirty as promised… I’ll just have to miss it, but I’d suspect this is one of those books that have three pages of internal breakdown between each thrust of a throbbing member into her trembling sex sprouting like a rose in bloom … just a guess 🤔🫣🤷‍♀️

Note: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Note 2: This is a series so please do read in order as the stories are connected and previous characters do make appearances.

Trigger Warnings: abduction, rape, assault, Stockholm syndrome, murder, betrayal, death, violence, domestic violence.

I really don't know what to say about this book. I mean it was heavy, it was steamy, little on the romance, action packed, and triggering as hell.

I mean it spoke more like an 1800s novel with the whole female this female that crap that the hero used to refer to the heroine, while caging her and her catching feelings as an SS survivor. So that was a letdown.

But it also touched base on prejudices such as race, (the supernatural kind), what happens to women captives, and you know how sometimes you're not Jude with Cardan and you let the man do all the talking. So that was fun to read..but..

Hmm, I honestly liked the last couple of the scenes more so in the book, where we see the FMC have a backbone for the few moments and do all the macho stuff that the guy was doing. Yes they are mates, but equality matters too. The romance was not believable because it felt more of a product of being trapped due to prejudices as a victim of Stockholm syndrome than an actual paranormal connection.

I loved the coven the best - Greer especially and Eva (I hope I got her name right), my two strong kickass side heroines (I hope they stayed that way because well Colette disappointed me).

The action was definitely brilliantly written, felt realistic with all the prejudice, scheming, and "training their victims" (can you believe I was voting for the villains more?). Sure it was a bit more cruel than usual but it is a dark paranormal prejudiced romance after all.

Anyway hopefully Naiya and her mysterious love's story is more forthcoming and delightful to read -I mean we've already gotten a sneak peek of her life in the last chapters of Lifeblood. So I am extremely delighted to tell you that the next story Hydrous - Naiya and F's story - will be coming April 17th to answer all questions and see Naiya finding a mate too.

Can't wait for the next one - oh the suspense is killing me.

Until the next read,

-TMR

This book is beautifully constructed in the most precious of ways. How could it get even better? It's a debut novel.

Amara takes us on a journey to discover, lies, love, truth, feelings, pain, regret, atrocities and magic. Makhi and Colette. Two heart-stopping characters grown with hatred for the other's kind and  afterall, what fuels fire more than love. When what you know are small snippets of raging truths, all you're left to do...is what you've been told. Kill. Kill all those who aren't you. Spare no damned soul.

What is it like to fall for the one person who's breed you're taught to hate, taught to despite and taught to kill?

The character development and deep-rooted love these two share? Heavenly.
The spice when anger gets too loud or just the right amount? To die for.

Amara's characters goes far beyond just a book. It doesn't feel like you're reading and I encourage you to do just that. On February 27th I believe this beauty of a debut releases and you need to read it if you'd like to read before. Check her Instagram bio for pre-order information.

Absolutely fantastic novel.

Oh and did I forget?....🌶🌶🌶.8/5

First Impressions
Lifeblood is a book that I have seen quite a bit on Instagram and Booktube and I have become curious over these books and I do love some refreshing PNR tellings. Lifeblood and the series that its a part of, is a bit darker than what most are used to. This is also this author's first book so for a first book its not bad at all. I will say that the writing style is a bit different so I did have to be patient with it, and the writing does get better the more you read into the story. I will admit that the dynamics of the set up for this romance is what encouraged me to read it and I am glad that I did pick it up, because it was a edgy paranormal and very refreshing.

First Line
Drip. Drip. Drip

The Main Protagonists
The Hero: Makhi
The Heroine: Colette

Summary
Lifeblood is a story that bring two enemies together in the most unexpected bond they never expected to have from each other. Colette is a healer but also has a dark curse power that she will avoid using at all costs. But she also isn't a fighter, she is a healer and can't cause harm to another. She has a more softer, feminine, submissive personality. When she is brutally kidnapped and she ends up being the pet for Makhi, who is a warlock mix and is his clan's torturer, he plans on playing with Colette, but what he doesn't plan on, is his pet being his fated mate. But a bond forms between them in the darkest moments between them....but can Makhi protect his mate from their enemies?

What I Loved
Lifeblood was a very intriguing read and I was really fascinated by the world building. I do wish that these books were in audio format though. I was fascinated by the mix of creatures that exist in this world that this author has created. One of my favorite things about this book was that the heroine was softer. That tends to not be common in PNR anymore, and I have really missed it. I related so well to her because you really see the type of inner strength and determination to overcome, that most kick ass heroines can only dream of having. Then we have our hero, and what a delicious anti hero this man was and I knew that no matter what he did, he wouldn't have to do a big grovel ....SCORE!!! I am kinda sick of overly done grovels.

I know some readers thought the hero went in and did some crazy stuff but to be honest, I am not sure what they are referring to because while he does some hurtful things, its really not as bad as I thought it would be lol but Dark romance readers will really enjoy how its implemented. I also really enjoyed those sweet endearing moments between these two. A heroine that forgives and doesn't hold it against the hero, she understands him and connects with him and I truly loved her loving nature. And I absolutely loved she her true strengths come out before the end there. Truly captivating!

What I Struggled With
The pacing of this book and the writing style was a true struggle. It felt like the author was trying to cram in too much in the story. I get its the first book so there is a lot of world building she had to do, it just needed to be more fleshed in naturally with the story. I am hoping book 2 is better to get into.

Overall View
Lifeblood is a captivating read that delves into dark desires, honesty of the heart and the endearing moments of a fated mate match so flawlessly!

Favorite Quote(s)
I was her sun now. She would burn so bright for me.

There was something to be said about silence. I never appreciated it before. Now, the quiet let our connection build and blanket us in relief. Our bodies shifted closer, seeking warmth and connection.

She said 'we say the worst things to people we love. They hurt us most, and we hurt them most, because we love them.

I grinned and shook my head. “I never thought I’d say this, but... I’m glad you captured me.” His arms flexed around me, keeping me safe in all ways. “I captured you as you captured me, my soul.”

Delicious!
"I cannot wait to show you the games we shall play."
Fans of dark PNR romance get your one-click finger ready . . . this was FABULOUS.

Collette is a witch. Makhi is a warlock. As mortal enemies, neither could be more surprised that they're fated mates . . . especially since their relationship begins with Collette chained up as Makhi's captive.

OMG, these two! 😍😍 I was intrigued by them separately, but put them together and they were positively combustible. 🔥🔥 This was opposites attract at its best.
She needed someone to care for her, and I needed to own every part of her.
Makhi was a depraved, bad-ass bastard and I loved him.
Predictability was for the inept.
The author did such a good job of portraying his darkness without tripping over into irredeemable territory, while also making me smile.
"Your male is impressive in all ways, including size," he said matter-of-factly. I shook my head and smiled, my doubts flowing away.
He was so arrogant.
It was endearing.
And the way Collette was Makhi's exact opposite was also so well done.
I needed connection to suppress the agonies of my memories. I prized love and affection.
Be warned though, this one is full of triggers:

But if you're into . . .
✔ PNR
✔ dark themes
✔ captor/captive
✔ opposites attract
✔ enemies to lovers
✔ fated mates
✔ kink
. . . you've found your next read!

How many paranormal series pivots around boys?
(I'm looking at you "Immortals after dark" and "Black Dagger Brotherhood")

Now, imagine an urban paranormal series with Immortal after dark vibes about a coven of witches 😆! Plus there is enemy Walocks, Shifters, Vampires and other very powerful creatures... like Fae and Demons!

A dark paranormal romance! So check TW!

Colette is the coven's healer, not a fighter. She's part of the only coven of hybrids witches, disgraced but feared half-bloods.
After fighting with all she had, a mysterious evil warlock takes her captive (and what a mystery he was 😱)! They will not brake her with torture, she would easily give her life for her coven. But who will heal them? The only what to reach them is through the clan’s warlock resident torturer, her mate, the witch-hater Makhi.

First. I LOVE🖤 when the FMC has survival-guilt and is forced to face her "weakness" and transform it into her strength... ahhhh 😆
Second. Our anti-hero, Makhi, is a too well-dressed damaged warlock with a deep hate for witches. He is the know-it-all and hate-everyone male that found his match in a very resilient submissive witch.
Third. I don't know how to explain how good this book was. I was not expecting how dark, intense, sexy and violent it would be. But what made it so good, was the feeling of being fully rewarded at the end. Fourth. BDSM as healing for these two was bloody, hot and oh so good! I love when they can "resist" the matting bond and show each other who they really are, before the intense connection between then starts to change them. Hate everyone but you trope!

Lifeblood is Amara Rae's debut novel, and she absolutely killed it.

Lifeblood was filled with angst, tension, drama, and STEAM. UGH. Where do I find a Mahki of my own???? He can tie me to a bed any day. (Can I say that in a public review?)

Amara's writing is wonderful, beautiful, and detailed without being over the top. She built a world not too unlike our own, but filled with incredible species who are both working together, and trying to tear each other apart. The overarching story line is one that will flow through multiple books, and I can't wait to see where she takes it.

Mahki and Colette were absolutely amazing. The tension in their relationship was believable, as well as the way their relationship grew and strengthened. If you're looking for a new PNR author, you have to give Amara a go!!

Isn’t this cover just so pretty? And here is a book where you definitely shouldn’t judge it by its cover. This might be such a pretty and cute cover, but this book is…not that 🤣

The book is more along the lines of a dark romance. Mostly dark because it’s definitely for adults and not for the faint of heart. And a little crass with lots of violence, and sex. So fair warning.

But it’s also very good. If you’re into dark romance and don’t shy away from swear words and the other things mentioned above. I very much enjoyed it and I think you will too!

2.5 stars ✨ A dark paranormal romance with different species and a sexy antihero?! I wish it lived up to that 😵‍💫 is it possible for me to think there was too much smut?! Because there was. And I needed more plot. The plot was actually good but it was just not the main focus and… yeah. Ugh. Also I get that Colette was submissive but… she didn’t do anything 😂 Makhi was psychotic and I liked him more but he was so annoying in the end. It started off good but just kept getting worse. It was just lacking something deeper i guess, the characters felt shallow. Not sure if I’ll read the next one

I am officially hooked.

This series and these characters have me in a chokehold and I never want them to let me go.

For a debut novel and the first entry in what promises to be an epic fantasy/dark paranormal romance series, Lifeblood had a lot to accomplish and a lot it needed to prove, and in my mind, Amara totally succeeded on both fronts. While the beginning of this story is a bit of a slow burn and even a tad challenging to get through, once it gets going, it goes HARD.

Makhi as our MMC does take some getting used to (what alphahole doesn't, though?), but I think what I ended up loving most about his character is that while he does indeed grow and even soften for Colette, he still stays very true to his character throughout - with his arrogance, his dominance, and, yes, even his crazy intensity. He is flawed, but his love for Colette is real and it is everything. By the end, I was thoroughly in love with our warlock-berserker.

Colette, on the other hand, is Makhi's antithesis in many ways, but also his perfect complement. The sense of freedom he gives her (yes, even when she's a captive) allows our quiet, tenderhearted witch to just EXIST in all her messy glory, and when she does, she thrives. This woman is strong - but not in the way that I had initially anticipated going into this book. But I was more than satisfied by the way her arc played out.

The pairing between Colette & Makhi is fantastic, I adore these two together. Also, their sexual chemistry/the spice in this is positively and deliciously filthy and kinky AF, and I have zero complaints.

In short, I am officially obsessed with this series. Such a solid start to what promises to be a wild ride!

What a debut. Wow. Rae is certainly someone to keep on your radar- she’s going to be a big voice in PNR. Watch this space.

Plot:

Colette is a healer witch and most days feels completely useless when she compares herself to her coven full of kickass witches. When she is ambushed and kidnapped, she knows that she is not equipped to fight her way out.

On the first day of her torture, she discovers that her torturer is her mate.

Makhi is a disturbed warlock; he lives for revenge and pain. And every witch he kills brings him a little step closer to peace. He is not happy when he discovers the meek witch is his mate.

As the two fight physically and emotionally, a bigger battle is taking place. Warlocks are preparing to fight and annihilate all witches. Can the two overcome their differences and find peace in each other’s arms?

My thoughts:

Oh, my goodness 🥵🥵🥵🥵

I stayed up until 4am to finish this book. I gave up eating and sleeping because it gripped me and had me in a chokehold for the whole journey. Wow. What a ride!

I find it difficult to believe that this is a debut novel. Amara is a brilliant story teller and I can’t wait to see all the amazing things she’s going to achieve. She has a unique voice and I’m here for it 🤩

Tropes:

🔥 Enemies to Lovers
🔥 Captive
🔥 Size difference
🔥 Dirty talk
🔥 Mild BDSM
🔥 Grump/Sunshine
🔥 Sociopath/morally grey hero

I know, I drool as I type those tropes. It doesn’t get better, does it?

Why did I take off half a star?
Makhi is mad, deranged and impulsive. The man is a weapon and terrifying. All good stuff, yes. However, it seemed that every time there was trouble, he couldn’t go two steps before being ambushed, stabbed or captured. He seemed only strong when he was facing against the heroine. I’m being really picky, sorry.

I do love the whole story and can’t wait to read the next in the series.

TW:

Rae does a good job of warning her readers but there is:
⭐️ Mild torture
⭐️ Blood play
⭐️ Choking
⭐️ Death

These weren’t unmanageable at any point for me, but just a warning for you all 😉 There is a TW of sexual harassment but again, it’s mild (?) and not rape. It’s not done by the hero and not in detail. I’m not comfortable with SA but again, definitely nothing unmanageable.

Lifeblood by Amara Rae
5/5

“Do not forget the most crucial step, little witch.”
“And what is it, brilliant warlock?”
Pulling me up by a hand gripping my shirt, he pressed a rough kiss against my lips and sucked my upper lip between his teeth, giving it a nip.
“I remove the spines of anyone in our way.”

First of all, I am absolutely floored that Lifeblood is Amara Rae’s debut novel. The writing is polished, with beautiful descriptive wording, and excellent character descriptions. I also enjoyed that a good portion of the book was told from the male MC’s POV. I loved this dark, sexy, and violent PNR.

Makhai is the male MC, he is a warlock without a clan. He travels from clan to clan harnessing his skill and enjoyment of torture. You can tell a lot about Makhai just about how highly he holds himself, he is absolutely a vain ass but he protects what he loves with an overwhelming force.

Colette is a life witch from the head clan. She believes she only serves a purpose to her clan except strengthening their wards a few times a year. She seems delicate, weak, and easy to break. However, she soon faces trials that make her rethink her whole outlook on her life, magick, and coven. I enjoyed watching Colette change to a witch of worth.

The relationship between Makhai and Colette is electric. From the first moment they meet there is what feels like an unresolved connection. Colette the weakling and Mahkai the all powerful male find themselves in a situation where everything is not as it appears on the surface.

Overall, I LOVE THIS BOOK! I might need to do an immediate reread due to a book hangover. You can tell the author’s heart and soul went into this book. I cannot wait to read Hydrous, book 2 of the Immortal Coven series, comes out. Keep an eye on Amara, she is an author on the rise.

In a world where witches, warlocks, and other immortals are at odds with each other, no one is safe. Colette and her coven are ambushed while trying to enjoy a night out and suddenly her entire life is turned upside down. Captured by warlocks, Colette resolves herself to trying to reason with her captor… only to find out that he is her fated mate. Through prejudice and schemes and secrets, an unexpected love between Makhi and Colette blooms, capable of withstanding any trial they face as long as they are together.

The chemistry between Makhi and Colette is sizzling hot and the spicy scenes in this book are to die for. It’s the perfect balance of mystery, action, and romance that will take readers on an unforgettable journey! The important message of prejudices and how we treat people who we perceive to be different than us is embedded throughout the entirety of this book and is beautifully articulated. Lifeblood is an important addition to the conversation of overcoming misconceptions of others before we get to know them. I was honoured to read this arc and I’m stunned that this is Amara Rae’s debut novel. I cannot wait to see what this absolute gift to the book community publishes next.

Okay, so Makhi and Colette’s enemies to lovers romance was absolutely brilliant!!! They come from opposite sides of a long time feud between warlocks and witches, and they had to go through so much in order to find happiness. Makhi is not a nice guy, but he’d burn down the world for Colette, and I loved that about him. As for Colette, she’s his polar opposite due to her kindheartedness and gentle nature. But Colette has her own kind of quiet strength, and I loved that about her. 5 freaking stars!!!

A beautifully written debut with a dirty talking, possessive male and a fiercely dedicated heroine.

Lifeblood, the first book in the Immortal Coven series by Amara Rae was a riveting journey into a new unique world filled with a compelling storyline and a diverse group of well developed characters that just called to you! It’s hard to believes that this amazingly crafted story was Rae’s debut book!

Colette, our strong and fierce FMC, has lived with the weight of the world on her shoulders, bearing the load of previous injustices to her family and coven that left her traumatized. When an evil warlock, with mysterious secrets of his own, sets out to kidnap her from her coven in order to discover their secrets her life slowly begins to unravel even further—until she feels a connection with someone she never would have thought possible…her captor.

Makhi, the fierce berserker warlock, is the hot, domineering alpha hole that’s helping the enemy with their goal of destroying all the witches. However after assisting with the kidnap and supposed torture and torment of Collette he discovers something—she’s his fated mate and torturing her may not be as much fun as he originally thought…

I absolutely loved how these characters grew and evolved throughout the story! Seeing Collette overcome her past, finally understanding her gift and being willing to let others in was absolutely beautiful and watching Makhi transform before our eyes from the growly tormentor to the possessive protector as he slowly began to realize that maybe what he always had thought wasn’t true after all was utter perfection! And their chemistry? Off the charts!!

It may have taken a bit for these characters to overcome past traumas to conquer their demons and fully come together, but when they did—absolute🔥! The hot and steamy scenes were definitely spicy and I loved how their story evolved into so much more throughout the story. If you love dirty-talking, antihero alpha males that finally come around and a heroine with a heart of gold and endlesss love and passion to overcome even the most villainous of heroes…this book is for you!

Overall this deliciously dark and oh so steamy paranormal enemies to lovers, captor captive fated mate romance story has everything you could ever ask for and more! Mystery, intrigue, action, painful torment, uncontrolled passions and most importantly…the healing of two lost and broken souls. I can’t wait to discover more about the rest of the characters in the series!

I have tried to read this book 3 times this year. The furthest I’ve made it is 15% because I kept being told about people, lots of people. People and a world I don’t care about. It was so info dumpy, that I lost interest and put it down.

Wow. Just wow. I am blown away by this debut book by Amara Rae. I don't even know where to begin. This is an amazingly crafted story with characters that are so well developed. I loved them. I absolutely fell in love with them.
Colette is strong and fierce. Watching her grow into her character was such a journey. Watching her become comfortable with her gift, using it, it was beautiful. Makhi was this fierce warlock who immediately made the scenes hot. His alpha ways, his connection to Colette, it was just insane to see his transformation, his coming to terms with his fate. Colette and Makhi omg. Their pull, their chemistry is off the charts!!
The spicy scenes were incredibly hot, so well written. The whole book is just one you can get lost in. I know I did. I'm not ashamed to say I couldn't put it down and I lost sleep because I had to keep reading.
Amara Rae did an amazing job with her debut book and I can't wait to read more of her work. Pure talent. I absolutely loved this book!!

ARC review: I'm obsessed with this book! I've read a few PNR books about witches and all were amazing in their own way, however, this dark book is one of the best ones I've read.

The storyline takes a few chapters to start picking up but when it does it's captivating. The relationship between Colette and Makhi is wonderful. She's the light to his dark, the balm to his tortured soul. The way she affected him even before they gave into mating bond speaks volumes to her character. And the dirty, beautiful spicy scenes were perfection.

I'm excited but this is a series because I'm not ready to say goodbye to these witches. Their story is far from over.

This is a debut dark fantasy romance. If explicit smutty dialogue and frequent amorous congress with D/s twists have you clutching pearls, this might not be for you. But if you’ve enjoyed Emily McIntire’s fractured fairytales, KF Breene’s Ruin of Roses, or Nikki St. Crowe’s The Never King, then it is probably going to be your jam.

This was a slow start but things picked up after the first 50 pages, when the couple is brought together. There is a lot of backstory and an introduction to a large cast of characters that can be overwhelming for the beginning of a book. It is also necessary for the story and since it is part of a series arc. Each book in this series features an HEA for the couple but there’s an overall story arc to the series.

However, the pacing sort of threw me off at the end, again, as the author used Colette remembering several days as a means to tie everything up. It was a chunk of “telling” that was thrown at the reader and then felt like we returned the the regularly scheduled programming.

Makhi was a really well developed character with a clear character voice and character arc. And his penchant for ripping out vital organs and tearing off limbs of his enemies is pretty cool. Some of Makhi’s dialogue was redundant and might be mildly irritating to some readers, but this dialogue also fit with his personality. He was probably my favorite part of the story. I was also pretty invested in the overall series arc and I was seeking more of that arc as the main Makhi/Colette storyline unfolded.

I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in April and the rest of the series, especially with some of the stronger female characters as the focus.

I am beyond impressed with this book! For a debut author, Amara put in work! You become quickly sucked into the world of immortals. This book was so well written I found it hard to believe it's a debut.
Lifeblood is a fated mate romance with blood and violence. Hybrid witches that the head council wants to destroy. There are pieces moving on the board that even the reader has yet to see. You're left enraged at betrayals you never expected. I'm looking forward to not only more in this series but more from this author, whose words have the power to obtain all your attention!

Wow! This book is a very gripping and intense read. It’s a dark romance that could be triggering for some, so I suggest you check the trigger warnings before starting it.
Once you dive into the story there is no putting it down. Colette is an intriguing protagonist, and Makhi quickly becomes someone you hate to love (but you do). The adventure, twists, turns, heat and romance keep you constantly flipping pages and wondering what will happen next. I’m invested and can’t wait to see what the next book in the series brings!

Oh wow!!! This book needs so many stars; five is not enough. I was sucked in right from the start and couldn't put it down. This story was everything, plus there was some serious steam, plenty of 'oh no he didn't', and although I've heard some might say the FC was soft, she was far from it. Colette is a mighty warrior inside; she simply chooses to show her vulnerabilities as well, and she will do anything to protect those she loves. As for our beautiful Warlock, he made me laugh quite a few times. He is so strong, hardened and loves to boast, but you can almost see the look of confusion on his face as you read when he starts to get feelings. I loved every single moment of this book. It had me on the edge of my seat. I cannot believe this is Amara Rae's first book; it is sensational. Of course, I have pre-ordered the next one, as I do not want to miss out on that.

Colette, a kind and empathic life witch (healer), is kidnapped by the witches mortal enemies, the Warlocks. The Warlock who is tasked to torture our FMC is actually her fated mate, Mahki. He's arrogant, saddistic and hates everyone but especially witches.

I could not put this book down! I enjoyed the progression of the romance, and the ending is a HEA. Mahki is absolutely swoon worthy with his posessive character and Colette, a more submissive type, fits perflecty with him.The world is interesting and I need to know more about Colette's witch sisters since we didn't get to know much about them in this book.

Yes, I finally started this series! I’m so happy that I read it and loved it.
Great world, fantastic creatures of whom I want more 👀 and great story.

Colette seemed an average which at first but oh boy was I wrong. She is actually a very important one. I loved her nature and her pure heart. I appreciated her ability to forgive ( even tho I can hold a grudge forever 🙈). She loves with her all heart, even people that probably wouldn’t deserve it but she’s that witch that wants everyone to live peacefully and be happy.

Makhi is half warlock and half Berseker which made for a very interesting hybrid. He was also a difficult and a strong headed male. Infuriating sometimes really. He is so set in his ways, stubborn and cocky.
At first I thought he was good (in my book) cause he didn’t actually did anything physically to his captive but on the other hand he did mentally plus all the things he said to her so then I was thinking “ how can he redeem himself after all this” and also “ how much is he gonna do to change their situation “. Thank the Goddess, he had a breaking point where finally the mating bond and all the other things made sense to him and once he realized how much of a gift Colette was, he started the work in order to be worthy of his female and prove that the Goddess was right in mating them both to each other.
Their bond was inevitable and Makhi started doing his duty in full and worshiping the good witch 😉 he had on his hands.

Their sexy times were fantastic. Makhi has certain tendencies and the he worships his witch is gold and painful sometimes 🤗🤭🫠🥵.
His protectiveness is also off the charts and I love a male like him. 🫠

Theo’s thing was a twist I wasn’t expecting and once it was revealed I thought that it couldn’t get worse but yeah it did get worse. Just thinking about it gives me the creeps. Glad he’s gone!
Colette’s sister are very interesting both her characters and their powers. I’m very much looking forward to Eva’s book. It’s gonna be great, I can feel it already.
I’m excited to read Hydrous next!

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 3.5/5

I came across this author's work on TikTok; Lifeblood is Amara Rae's debut novel.  I bought myself a copy last year (the cover is gorgeous 😍) but I didn't read it until now.

Colette (FMC) is a "Life witch"; she has the gift of healing. Colette is a fragile, forgiving character compared to her "coven sisters". Years ago, a horrific attack on their Coven killed their mothers and Colette's younger brother. Since that day, Colette carries a lot of guilt; she blames herself for not being useful or strong enough.

Makhi is a "Warlock"; the one kind/being he detests more than anything is witches. After all, it was the witches who killed his family. Makhi is talented at what he does: torturing his victims/enemies to get the information he needs. Colette is kidnapped, and Makhi is her captor, tormentor and, more importantly, her mate.

Overall, I enjoyed the plot; it kept me interested and I wanted to see where the storyline was heading. But I don't know, something was lacking. I got a bit confused because there were too many character introductions, and I didn't like that Colette gave in so easily. Then again, no matter how dire her situation is, the mate bond is hard to resist.

In the last few chapters, Colette (finally) found her backbone; Makhi gave her the strength she desperately needed. After discovering that his biggest enemy is his mate, Makhi was so torn with these unexpected emotions. Makhi wants to bring down his enemies, but he is unable (or more like, doesn't want) to physically hurt Colette. He became obsessed with taking care of her, such as bathing her. Makhi definitely did a 180-degree change.

I love a good paranormal book with magic and then throw in enemies to lovers and you get yourself a recipe for success… this was a new author to me and her debut book all and all she done a great job… We do get a lot of information and a slow start, but I understand why cause there history and everyone that’s involved.. Colette is part of a coven of witches that are attacked by some warlocks and Makhi is task with getting information from her.. But they both quickly learn that not everything they know is true..There backstabbing, secrets and twist that helps more the story along… We still have more to find out about the Councils plans so we will be getting more books coming soon…This is a dark read check TW..

I greatly enjoyed this book! This story drops us into a hidden world filled with witches, warlocks, vampires and more. Our FMC, Colette is a healing witch and a leader of her coven, when she gets captured by a warlock clan, their natural enemies. Of course it turns out her mate is a part of this clan, and through her captivity they fall.

I absolutley loved how powerful and strong Makhi is, but also completely besotted with Colette. She is not a typical badass female with swords, but she is feisty and incredibly strong in spirit.

I loved watching her grow in confidence as she felt supported by Makhi.

This story left me so so interested in more, I cannot wait until the next book comes out.

Great plot, great steam, great story
