We all know the American diet and Western diets in general contain too much sugar, too much processed food, too many processed seed oils. And we should know that these contribute to the various degenerative diseases that are also associated with aging, ranging from diabetes, to cancer, to heart disease and Alzheimer's. And indeed these dietary errors lead many to higher BMI indices and obesity.

Sweet Surprise packs a wealth of information especially around the topic of sugar in all its forms, but also in treating types of fats, and in providing an exercise regimen. It is extremely thoroughly researched, and as such you will have to plow through a lot of biomolecular names. Do that and you get to the benefits. The layout and inclusion of tables helps you get to the bottom line, which is finding foods that are health-positive, such as those rich in a desired nutrient, e.g. resveratrol or flavonols.

Although focussed on sugar, this may be the most complete nutrition book I have ever read because of the comprehensive coverage of how insulin works, the discussion of fats and oils, and the broad treatment of antioxidants. It also discusses interval fasting and various fad diets such as keto.

There is a high probability that implementing the recommendations in Sweet Surprise and changing your diet, will extend your lifespan.

This book helps me understand why I crave pasta, ice cream, and pastries. It’s easy to understand with a simple step-by-step solution. I also love the science-based study of why I choose certain foods over others. There is more than 400 endnotes in this book, and I think the author spent a lot of time with medical research. Bravo! Highly recommend it if you want to live a long healthy life.

Finally weight loss help for mature women

I like that this book is geared towards women over 40 who have more trouble than anyone losing weight. It is well researched and well written. The author starts by talking about overall health and well being then gets into specifics. I think there are great suggestions and the detox plan is helpful but if you followed this diet to the letter it would make you very obsessive and very difficult to live with. She even says most types of water are bad to drink. Overall though great information. Do your research and then find out what works best for you.

A Sweet Treat for Detox

"Sweet Surprise: A Guide to Hormone Balance and Managing Pregnancy Cravings" is a delightful and informative read for anyone navigating the rollercoaster ride of cravings. This book offers practical advice and empathetic guidance on how to handle those pesky sugar cravings while also keeping your hormones in check.

The author does a fantastic job of breaking down the complex world of hormones in a way that's easy to understand and, more importantly, easy to apply to daily life. Whether you’re craving pickles at 3 AM or suddenly can’t stand the smell of your favorite food, this book provides insights into why these cravings happen and how to manage them without losing your mind—or your healthy eating habits.

One of the standout features of "Sweet Surprise" is its balance of scientific information and real-life tips. The author doesn't just tell you what’s happening in your body; they offer practical strategies to cope with it, all while maintaining a light-hearted and reassuring tone. This approach makes the book feel like a conversation with a wise and funny friend who’s been there, done that, and wants to help you get through it with your sanity intact.

Additionally, the book’s focus on hormone balance is a refreshing change from the typical diet books. It doesn’t just tell you what to eat but explains how different foods and lifestyle choices can affect your hormonal health, which in turn can make those cravings more manageable.

This is a must-read for anyone looking to understand and conquer their cravings with a bit of courage and a lot of science. It’s the perfect companion for anyone who wants to take charge of their detox journey while still indulging in the occasional sweet treat—guilt-free!

needs an editor

Trina is obviously very knowledgeable and she has written a very useful and well researched book, HOWEVER, she definitely needs an editor as it is hard to read and has many grammatical errors. The ebook formatting is also often off. A few tweaks and this could be a great book.

Wake up call on health issues

The book brings the reality of how much damage we cause to our bodies with the food we eat, the issues we allow to linger on in our minds bringing stress and anxiety, and the effect of lack of exercise. I was however expecting a meal plan for 21 days, it would have been helpful.

Overall it is a good book.
