Set in modern NYC and despite being young Black women, Vella Price and Corrie Watson couldn't be any more different.

Vella is a 27-year-old tough, rookie detective and police officer. She loves her job and seeking out justice for the most vulnerable. However, she is unappreciated at work and faces daily mircoaggressions in society.

Corrie Watson is a 19-year-old pretty, charismatic, and privileged art student who seems to want for nothing–except the love of her parents and for the world to be better place.

When dozens of Black women and girls turn up missing—and then later found dead, these two women have their worlds collide in this fantastical murder mystery in the discovery of who, or even what is behind it all.

A Page-turning Psychological Thriller with a Telekinetic Twist

With its unique style of writing, the displaying of two voices, and the blending of verses, this is an absorbing murder mystery. Detective/Junior Investigator Valle Price and her partner Lead Detective/Private Investigator Adrian Gram are investigating the disappearances of Black women and girls. Valle cares genuinely about the women who are receiving little attention or press coverage, but there is more to this plot than meets the eye when Corrie Watson, a college student, and an amateur investigator comes into play. The two characters from different worlds may have more in common as the narrative begins to move in many directions through flashbacks, featuring stirring, multifaceted players, great dialogue, and vivid settings. There are sudden twists and turns, secrets and lies, manipulation, envy, and deceit, slowly building up to a bombshell ending, which I never saw coming. Although the story is fictional, the issues explored are relative today when it comes to who receives more attention or press coverage when Women of Color disappear compared to some of their White counterparts, and how social media will bring pertinent news to light when mainstream media does not.

I’d give this a 3.5 star ⭐️ rating. I think my lower rating came because it was not at all what I was expecting, but it was still a good and well written book.
I did appreciate the twists and turns that the book itself had and I think that Katelyn has a very bright future ahead of her. I would still recommend reading this book but I would suggest going into it with an open mind and no expectations of what you think it’s going to be about. That will help much better in the long run.
As always, my fellow Goodreader’s, Happy Reading &/or Listening! 💜📚🎧
