The moon shines through the open window, bathing the woman in pale light. Blood-red wine from a shattered glass soaks into the cream blanket beside her, and her dull eyes stare vacantly at the framed photograph in her hand.
When beautiful wife and mother Alicia Gordon is found dead in a remote woodland cabin, Detective Amanda Steele is shocked to discover that she knows the husband. Amanda hasn’t spoken to Tony since she lost the love of her own life seven years ago, and seeing tragedy tearing her old friend’s family apart brings back so many painful memories.
Alicia was alone when she died, but she was so young, and Amanda can’t help feeling suspicious. Then she discovers that Alicia’s sleep medication had been tampered with, slowly poisoning her over several days. Amanda wants to trust that the sorrow on Tony’s face is real, but the more she digs into his marriage, the more it seems that he had opportunity, and motive…
Interviewing one of Alicia’s old colleagues, Amanda is shaken to her core when the woman suddenly collapses in her arms, dying in seconds from a lethal dose of the same poison that killed Alicia. But what could link this woman to Tony?
With her partner blaming Amanda for not arresting Tony immediately, she needs to prove that he isn’t the killer, or accept that the second woman’s death could be on her hands. She’s running out of time and leads when she discovers threatening messages sent to both victims. It’s the final clue to unmasking the most twisted killer Amanda has ever come up against, and to stop them she’ll have to risk everything…
CAROLYN ARNOLD is an international bestselling and award-winning author, as well as a speaker, teacher, and inspirational mentor. She has several continuing fiction series and has nearly thirty published books. Her genre diversity offers her readers everything from cozy to hard-boiled mysteries, and thrillers to action adventures. Her crime fiction series have been praised by those in law enforcement as being accurate and entertaining. This led to her adopting the trademark: POLICE PROCEDURALS RESPECTED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT™.
Carolyn was born in a small town and enjoys spending time outdoors, but she also loves the lights of a big city. Grounded by her roots and lifted by her dreams, her overactive imagination insists that she tell her stories. Her intention is to touch the hearts of millions with her books, to entertain, inspire, and empower.
She currently lives near London, Ontario, Canada with her husband and two beagles.
Carolyn Arnold brings suspense and intense moments to Her Frozen Cry, a gripping crime thriller and police procedural that is the fifth book in a series. The setting largely takes place in Prince William County in northern Virginia and features Detective Amanda Steele. Amanda, a seasoned detective, is partnered with Detective Trent Stenson. They catch a case at a remote cabin. Alicia Gordon, beautiful and wealthy wife, mother, and the owner of New Belle cosmetics, is dead. Was it suicide, murder, or a health problem? When Amanda learns that Alicia’s husband of six months is an old friend she hasn’t seen in six or seven years, she’s shocked, but certain that she can separate the old friendship from her job and be impartial.
Amanda has to balance work and family. She recently adopted a young girl from a previous case, Zoe Parker. Lining up baby sitters for her work schedule can be challenging. Additionally, she needs to be there for Zoe, who is still seeing a therapist following the death of both of her parents. Amanda’s flaws and struggles made her seem realistic. Amanda shows growth and depth as the story progresses, and readers finally get more insight into Trent in this story. He’s loyal, funny, and always has Amanda’s back, but his temper can come alive in defense of an underdog. Despite only being partners for a few months, their dynamics enhanced the story line. Will there be a romance?
The novel builds suspense in a way that pulls readers into the lives of the characters. The descriptive writing style draws one in and keeps you turning the pages. The plot is suspenseful, full of chasing down leads and interviewing suspects and witnesses in anticipation of identifying and stopping the killer. There are plenty of red herrings.
I enjoyed how the author twisted the plot points and provided unpredictable moments in the story. These twists and surprises keep readers on their toes. I found myself wondering which truths and lies would be uncovered next. Will you see that ending coming? Themes include murder, relationships, families, secrets, jealousy, grief, loneliness, and more.
Overall, this novel was engaging and atmospheric. It’s thought-provoking and engrossing. This is the fifth book that I have read by this author, but the second I’ve read in this series. There are threads that could be plot points in future books. I can’t wait to find out what is next for Amanda and Trent. I recommend this to those that like police procedurals with relatable and likeable main characters.
Bookouture and Carolyn Arnold provided a complimentary digital ARC of this novel via NetGalley. This is my honest review. Opinions are mine alone and are not biased in any way. Publication date is currently expected to be June 9, 2022. This review was originally posted at Mystery and Suspense Magazine.
4 stars for a fast paced murder mystery, set in suburban Virginia. This is book 5 in the series and I have previously read book 4 in the series. However, there are events that happened in the 1st 3 books that are referred to in this book. I would have enjoyed this one more if I had read those 3. Amanda and her partner Trent are called to the scene of a suspicious death at a cabin in the woods. The investigation points to murder. While they do solve the case, the ending was a surprise and I did not suspect the killer until the end. Amanda is also dealing with issues in her personal life. Because of her personal issues, she has difficulty in dealing with the case and her partner. I read this book in 3 days. There are actually 2 murders in the book, but no graphic violence. This book would be suitable for cozy fans. Both my wife and I enjoy this series. One quote: Amanda's thoughts upon finding out that the victim liked white water rafting: "She'd rather have a tooth pulled without drugs than barrel down a rushing river that swatted her around, eager to capsize the boat and drown her." Thanks to Noelle Holten at Bookouture for sending me this eARC through NetGalley
Amanda Steele has her hands full trying to solve the case of murdered businesswoman, Alicia. Alicia's husband used to be friends with Amanda, but he distanced himself after Amanda's husband and daughter died - something she has trouble forgiving him for. However, Tony Bishop seems to be a big, fat, liar and so being distant is the least of his issues.
Trent is Amanda's partner and he is quite willing to believe that Tony is behind the murder of his wife, as well as a rival of hers. He is a really supportive partner to Amanda when she most needs one, when her father-figure collapses at work and they don't know what is going to happen with him.
I loved that Amanda was being shown as a single, working mother, trying to juggle everything and still being a good mum to Zoe, and a good daughter to her parents, as well as solid police detective.
Good book, really enjoyed it. I did not figure out who the villain was until the author revealed it!
Gainsville. Prince William County. Virginia. A solitary cabin. A woman…dead. Alone…In a locked room. Amanda is on the case and I have every confidence that she will get her man, or woman, whoever it may be.
This murder strikes too close to home. She knows the dead woman’s husband, though it has been many years since she last saw him. They had been friends.
Her partner, Trent, she keeps at a distance. She has no time for romance, if he is even interested. She has her adopted ten year old daughter, Zoe, who has her own story in a previous book, The Silent Witness, and her work.
So many suspects. Though the perpetrator was right in front of me, I didn’t see it. I followed the clues through the pages, going wherever Carolyn Arnold led me. It is never easy to solve one of her mysteries.
I think Amanda Steele is my favorite character of Carolyn Arnold’s. To say she is spread thin is to put it mildly, but she doesn’t neglect anyone, sharing her love with all those close to her. Will she find Mr Right? I don’t want to hurry you along, Carolyn, but she deserves a life partner.
You have a satisfied reader, Carolyn. I can hardly wait to see what you comes next.
I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Her Frozen Cry by Carolyn Arnold.
I am definitely in the minority and my guess is that you really need to have read the first 4 books in the series to form a connection with the main characters and get into this book. It's not that I needed any back story to understand what was going on (that was filled in fine) but I just didn't care about the main character or respect her. The story was slow and the writing felt amateurish. The end felt wrapped up in one chapter where it almost felt like Arnold just thought, "Okay, let's pick someone to be the killer, this one will do." Some things were never answered and the epilogue just basically said they never found out why that happened. It just felt meh. Two stars for me -- it was okay. I don't think I'd read another in the series but those who are already committed to the characters through earlier books will probably be happy for another fix of them.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Her Frozen Cry by Carolyn Arnold is the fifth installment in her exciting and thrilling Detective Amanda Steele series. I was excited to return to the Prince William County to follow Amanda and Trent as they embarked on their most recent murder investigation.
Each time I pick up a Carolyn Arnold book, I expect a story full of twists and turns and a mystery which will keep me guessing to the end. Her Frozen Cry delivered on all counts.
This time around Amanda and Trent caught a case, which at first glance appears to be suicide. However, as the pair dug deeper, they discover there was more to the case than they initially thought. But who would want to kill the beautiful and wealthy owner of New Belle cosmetics? The investigation came with several complexities, the biggest being Amanda’s friendship with the victim’s husband. Now the husband is always the first suspect, a fact which will test Amanda’s ability to remain impartial.
The investigation led to several suspects. I thought I had my finger on the suspect, but Arnold introduced another victim. The introduction of the new victim threw me a curveball. The perpetrator’s identity shocked me, but the biggest shocker was the motive. Definitely never saw it coming.
Not only does the reader get a ring-side seat to the investigation, they also have a bird's-eye view into Amanda’s personal life. She has come a long way from the woman who attempted to drown her grief in one-night stands, pill popping and drinking. The life-changing decision she made two installments back, also helped in her becoming a better version of herself. The story showcased her attempts to maintain a healthy balance between her professional and personal life.
Overall, Her Frozen Cry delivered an amazing story, which had me hooked from start to finish, Fast-paced, thrilling and worth every minute spent reading. . As always, I look forward to reading more from the author. Book 6 can’t come soon enough. Fans of police procedurals, murder mysteries will enjoy the Detective Amanda Steele series. Her Frozen Cry book 5 in the detective Amanda Steele series. I love this series so before you jump into this book, take some time off and read books 1 to 5
When a local business women Alicia is found dead at a cabin alone all signs point to suicide, however when Amanda arrives she believes there’s more to the story. The case brings Amanda to Tony, one of her old friends before her husband and child were killed. Amanda finds herself struggling with her loyalties to her old friend or to the case.
Amanda story is always full of growth in the character, I fell in love with Poppy 3 books ago and I am still fully in love with that little girl. With all the murder and madness we get a little burst of light when it comes to Amanda’s relationship with Poppy. We get to focus on Poppy and actually how much she is suffering from the death of her parents. It’s great to read just how much Poppy has gone through and how her mental health is being addressed in such a sensitive manor. Amanda and Poppy will heal each other.
The case was a bit crazy if I’m honest, we have Alicia dead who is married to Tony who was Amanda’s best friend and possible love interest but he is now the main suspect for the murder. I had to write a diagram to remember who is who because honestly reading at night I often forget …. A lot. However reading how rule abiding Amanda runs this case it’s quite different to what we are used to. She is torn between the law and loyalty and is trying to find a middle ground that allows for both to be at work. Tony though was dodgy as hell and clearly not a very good friend, I personal would have no loyalties to him but hey that’s just me. Anyway I really enjoyed the different manor in which Amanda approached the case which made this a delight to read, well for a murder investigation anyway. Bodies start appearing and suicide is appearing less and less like the way Alicia dead.
As usual the police procedure is well explained and well written, even the questionable parts. I did guess the killer really early on but mainly because I read crime thrillers all the time and I am quite good now at picking killers, it was a hunch, I stuck with the same suspect and honestly I began doubting myself. I actually found though the fall out to the murderer was great, if you don’t guess just wait for it you’re in for a surprise. The twists and turns of the story will keep you going. As usual the prose is written fantastically. Reading from Amanda’s POV really gives the reader an insight into her state of mind throughout. She is such a badass detective I think I would follow her over a cliff ha :D.
I really enjoyed this book and I love the entire series I am yet to read one that I haven’t enjoyed. I would highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys a strong female detective lead crime fiction series. Every book the crimes get more and more inventive, and I love it! This instalment kept me gripped throughout even though I guessed the killer early on. I must say there are some emotional elements of this book when it comes to Amanda’s relationships so keep an eye out for that. I rate Her Frozen Cry 4/5 stars Thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and Carolyn Arnold for a digital ARC of Her Frozen Cry in exchange for my fair and honest opinions. This review will be found on goodreads.com/jaswebb and @jazzreadsreviewsrepeats.
Blog Tour Review for “Her Frozen Cry” by Carolyn Arnold. Read and reviewed via NetGalley.
A heart pounding crime thriller series you need to pick up!!! This series just keeps getting better. With so many twist and turns, you will be on the edge of your seat in suspense. Her Frozen Cry has Amanda and Trent investigating a case that is very personal to Amanda. Can Amanda keep her feelings under control? With so many leads that just seem to go no where, they certainly have their hands full. Plus, where is their own personal life heading???? Balancing work and family isn’t going to be easy. Though Her Frozen Cry is part of a series, I feel you can read it as a standalone. But, I highly recommend you read the complete series. The backstory to the characters will give you insight into their life. Carolyn Arnold continues to give a solid police procedural series that I highly recommend. I can’t wait to find out what is coming up next for Amanda and Trent! Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and author, Carolyn Arnold for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own. #HerFrozenCry #CarolynArnold #BlogTour #Bookouture #BookReview

Publication date 1st June 2022.
This is the fourth book I have read by this author. It is also the fifth book in the 'Detective Amanda Steele' series but can be read as a standalone. I have previously read 'Stolen Daughters' which I also highly recommend and is the second book in the 'Detective Amanda Steele' series 'The Silent Witness' which is the third book in the 'Detective Amanda Steele' series and 'Black Orchid Girls' which is the fourth book in the 'Detective Amanda Steele' series.
I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching stunning cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that this book is 'A heart-pounding crime thriller perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, Robert Dugoni and Rachel Caine.' I am a huge fan of Angela Marsons so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I am also a huge fan of Carolyn and if this is half as good as 'Stolen Daughters', 'Black Orchid Girls' and 'The Silent Witness' it is sure to be a page turning read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).
This novel consists of a prologue, 39 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
This book is based in Virginia, USA 🇺🇸
This book is written in third person perspective and the protagonist is Detective Amanda Steele. The benefits of third person perspective with are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.
What an ending and yet another epic read from the very talented Carolyn Arnold!!! Congratulations Carolyn on yet another page turner!!
This is an extremely well written book with vivid descriptions that will suck you straight into the storyline and captivated from beginning to end. The synopsis and cover worked perfectly with the storyline.
The storyline means that there is no problem with this being read as a standalone. I was absolutely hooked throughout, a true page turner from beginning to end. The storyline was in depth and packed with suspense, twists, turns, shocks and was an edge of your seat, nail biting and heart racing psychological thriller. I was absolutely hooked. I read this book in less than 24 hours and I'm looking forward to reading the previous books in this series as well as more to come. This series is extremely addictive and I cannot wait to see what the next "episode" brings!! It is one of the best books I have read this year and I really enjoyed and loved the ending!!! It is filled with suspense, tension, mystery, shocks, love, friendship, sadness, crime and everything you could ever want in a crime novel. I also loved that the killing method was unique, I have certainly never read or seen anything using that method yet!! There were several bombshells that I was not suspecting ♥ I won't say more as not to spoil it for future readers. It is a true page turner that will leave you biting your nails on the edge of your seat with your heart racing. I loved the ending and I cannot wait to see what Amanda is going to do now!!!! Hope your busy typing the next one up Carolyn as I cannot wait!!!
Although this is the fifth book in the series you will have absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.
I loved meeting all the characters again who were all strong, well defined and unique. I became completely invested in Amanda, Trent and Zoe. Amanda is absolutely whoop a## and I love seeing strong female leads in books. She has a background but will not let it pull her down and she is definitely someone I would love to have on my side. It was so bitter sweet watching her bond with Zoe even more and watching their relationship develop and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next. They are fast becoming like family to me along with Trent and Malone. Trent is another fantastic team member and they work perfectly well together. I would love to see more happen between these two amazing characters but only time will tell!! I loved Rideout's (medical examiner) character and personality with his morgue humour and I also like Malone and see him as a sort of fatherly figure to Amanda. I am definitely looking forward to meeting them all again!!!
I could not praise this book enough and highly recommend. Carolyn I cannot wait to read more of your very successful work!!! I would also love to see this book turned into a movie. An absolutely addictive, compelling and gripping true page turner!!! If you have not read any books by this epic authour then you are seriously missing out!!!
Overall an absolutely captivating, engrossing page turner that is compelling and addictive!!!
Genres covered in this novel include Thriller, Mystery, Police Procedural, Suspense, Hardboiled, Organised Crime, Women's Detective Fiction, Romance Novel, Psychological Thriller, Noir Fiction, Psychological Fiction and Crime Fiction amongst others.
I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Carol Wyer, Lisa Regan, Robert Dugoni, Rachel Caine, Angela Marsons and ANYONE looking for an epic page turner .
322 pages.
This book is just £1.99 to purchase on kindle via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Another engrossing read which drew me in from the start, there are plenty of twists, turns & red herrings. I was kept on the edge of my seat & the pages flew by My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
This is Detective Amanda Steele's fifth outing, but it can easily be read as a standalone.
Her Frozen Cry is a fast-paced and well-written mystery that I absolutely devoured in two sittings.
If you don't know this series, they're police procedurals set in Prince William county which is a part of Virginia in the US. The main character is Amanda Steele, a no nonsense cop who lost her husband and daughter several years ago.
Amanda and her partner Trent are tasked with the suspicious death of Alicia Gordon, owner of beauty company New Belle. She's found inside a locked cabin, but they can't be sure what happened. Was it a suicide or was it murder?
Amanda is still her likeable, if a bit abrasive, self who I've come to know and love over these past few novels. She really goes through it in her personal life with this novel! Trying to balance being a working mum, alongside caring for her adopted daughter Zoe, but the guilt is getting to her a bit. Not to mention the fact she used to be friends with one of the suspects in Alicia Gordon's murder and dealing with some romantic feelings towards someone she shouldn't. How she copes with it all, I don't know!
I had the murderer in my sights quite early on, but there were plenty of red herrings along the way to distract me.
Yet another brilliant novel from Carolyn Arnold. I'm already looking forward to the next book!
I absolutely love this series. Her Frozen Cry is another taut, gripping police procedural with a twisty central mystery, made all the more tense by Detective Amanda Steele’s personal connection to one of the suspects. The characters are complex, with lots to unpick as the evidence starts to build. As ever, there are involving subplots relating to Amanda’s work and personal life too. The two overlap, causing high emotion and tension, which plays along nicely as the case unfolds at breakneck speed. Amanda’s ward, six-year-old Zoe, makes another interesting addition to the mix, with her traumatic background and Amanda’s need to balance work and family life. All the ingredients are perfectly handled to produce an addictively compelling read. Excellent.
I absolutely adore this author - her books never disappoint. And this series - wow! Just keeps on getting better. Loved loved loved this book. Could not put it down. Do read this book and series. I promise you'll be hooked.
I just recently discovered this author, but Her Frozen Cry is Carolyn Arnold's fifth book in the Detective Amanda Steele series. I read the fourth one and really enjoyed it and was pleased to see a new book in the series had come out. I really enjoyed this well-written procedural. The complicated case of who killed a successful business woman is even more difficult for Amanda since she used to be close friends with the victim's husband. Amanda is also trying to find a work/homelife balance after adopting a young girl and is fighting her feelings for her work partner, Detective Trent Stenson. I don’t always agree with Amanda’s decisions, but I appreciate her skills as a detective, and the loyalty she has for her friends.
The case is interesting and there is enough about Amanda's personal life that I could connect with her, but it didn't take over the murder mystery. I would like to get to know more about Trent, and hope that is possible in future books. This book had less of a thriller element than the prior book, but is a solid, fast-paced procedural. I really enjoyed it and plan to continue following this series.
I received this ebook from NetGalley through the courtesy of Bookouture. An advance copy was provided to me at no cost, but my review is voluntary and unbiased.
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this book
book 5 in the series with amanda steele, who i had hoped was a strong female lead, but i didnt get that vibe, but it maybe because the suspects are to close to her....
with the investigation into the murder of a successful business woman underway, the investigations stalls at several points but its the murder of another business woman that really brings it home for the police
hopefully the next book in this series i will get a better feel for the female leading character because i felt at times she was the rookie and trent was the lead
I do believe that Her Frozen Cry just may be the best book that Carolyn Arnold has written so far. Well, from the ones that I have read that is and I have read a lot of Carolyn Arnold’s books and truly enjoyed each and every one of them. Her writing gets better and better with each book. But I must say that she has definitely knocked it out of the ballpark with Her Frozen Cry.
I mean she had me guessing as to who did it from the start. Well, I will have to admit that at first, I did think I knew who did it real quick-like. All Detective Amanda Steel had to do was prove it. Well, prove it she did. I was convinced as to who the killer was right up until Amanda let the real killer out of the bag. Oh, let me tell you it took me by surprise.
I love the way Carolyn lays her stories out. You know someone was killed and who it is from the very beginning then you are left to figure out who did it and why. Then you get to read the crime scenes and let the dead talk to you giving their account of how they died by putting together all the clues left by the killer that they are not even aware that they left.
The mystery and suspense alone will keep the pages turning. The moment I pick up one of Carolyn’s books I am drawn into its world trying to help figure out what happened to the victim, who the killer is, and the reason behind the killing.
In Her Frozen Cry, Detective Amanda Steel must solve the murder of a friend’s wife that she has not seen since the death of her own family several years back. Amanda must find out if the woman died by her own hand or if by someone else. The woman’s husband is hiding something but Amanda has no idea what it is but she will find out before it is over. What is the husband hiding? Who killed this lady? Did her husband do it? Or was it someone else?
As always I would recommend any one of Carolyn’s books but I do highly recommend Her Frozen Cry as it is the best one yet. Give it a try. Grab your copy today!
I have made no bones about enjoying the Amanda Steele series by Carolyn Arnold, and this 5th book in the series was another great addition. Although the books can be read as a standalone, as each crime is solved in the book, there is character development and situations that occurred in previous books that are referred to. Detective Amanda Steele is a seasoned detective, who is partnered with Detective Trent Stenson. They are assigned a case of the mysterious death of Alicia Gordon, a beautiful and assured married mother, at a remote cabin. Alicia is the owner of New Belle cosmetics, a successful company that could be a motive for her death. Was it suicide, murder, or a natural death? When Amanda learns that Alicia’s husband of six months is an old friend she hasn’t seen in six or seven years, she’s shocked, but certain that she can separate the old friendship from her job and be impartial. When it looks like the culprit is within reach another murder occurs. Can they figure this one out before there are any more victims?
I really like Amanda's character. She is realistic and relatable. She is juggling many things in her life, including family life. She has recently adopted a daughter (situation in a previous book) so has to worry about childcare as her job is not necessarily 9 to 5. She also has to make sure to spend time with Zoe as she is still dealing with the violent loss of her parents. I have enjoyed seeing her growth as the series progresses. We also get to see a bit more about Trent and his personality, he is no always Mr. Easygoing. There is some tension in their relationship as they fight some attraction to one another. This is a well written and plotted story that builds as the story progresses. There were several suspects to be vetted but I thought I knew who the murderer was, I was wrong. There were several red herrings that led me down the wrong pathway. Not only was I surprised to discover who the culprit was, but the motive as well. Overall, this was a fast-paced, thrilling story, that grabbed me from the first page and held on to the end. I read it over a couple of days, only putting it down when I had company. I am looking forward to seeing what is next for Amanda and Trent in the next book, "Last Seen Alive" coming later this year. I recommend this one to fans of police procedurals and crime thrillers. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. The rating and opinions shared are my own.
WOW, WOW, WOW!!! What a great addition to this series this proved to be, If you read it for yourself, I hope you'll also agree, So much more than just a crime thriller, there are so many other genres in too Looking at life, dilemmas, family, friendships and support all the way through.
Another Detective Amanda Steele riveting crime thriller As she and her team seek to find a killer But this one is filled with memories and dilemmas, too, As it involves someone who she once knew.
Alicia Gordon's body is discovered in a cabin, alone. She's a successful business entrepreneur, very well known. She's also a wife and a mother of two And her husband, Tony, is the one Amanda once knew.
Alicia was juggling her business, family and more Considering her work/life balance and options to explore. As Amanda gets used to being a mother again She knows the dilemmas, she lives them it's plain.
When a suspect dies in front of their eyes They need to sort out the truth from the lies. Is it powerful women who're the target this time Or is there a more sinister reason for this crime?
A total page turner right from the start This story also contains tales from the heart. There are twists and turns, worry and stress These stories are enthralling reads, they're never less.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this mysterious crime thriller The surprise ending, that twist, it is a real chiller. For my copy of this book, I say a huge thank you And hope my honest review encourages you to read it, too.
(4.5)Even if you have never read Carolyn Arnold you know from the prologue someone is going to die. When Alicia pulls the blanket around her to try and get warm, I was searching for my blanket even thought it was 77 degrees. You are immersed. This is part of a series and can be read as a stand alone. I have not read all in the series, and in missing some I had questions, but only because I had read some of them. Does that make sense? There is growth and changes that I missed. If this is a first time read for you, you will not miss them. I have to say I knew who the guilty part was from the get go, and I was right. Carolyn does a great job showing us why it could have been one of the others, and in fact I was totally surprised by one. You are part of Detective Steeles team riding along, seeing the clues trying to work them and juggle life. Her partner Trent has been a godsend to her, and you see the friendship and brotherhood. More? Maybe, who knows. These books always provide entertainment, suspense and even make you think. Thank you Bookouture, NetGalley, George Arnold for having a widget sent my way. Thank you for the arc, I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions.
Her Frozen Cry is another solid police procedural in the Detective Amanda Steele series.
As Amanda and her partner Trent return to investigate the death of wife and mother Alicia Gordon.
However, when Amanda arrives on scene, she is shocked to discover she knows the victims husband and an investigation ensues. But one made all the more complicated by her feelings at seeing a friend who walked away from her whilst she was grieving the loss of her own husband Kevin and daughter Lyndsey.
Yet, Amanda is determined to find who hurt Alicia even if that means arresting her old friend, and as her and her partner Trent dig, Tony seems to have more motive to kill than not. Only Amanda is reluctant to act that is until another victim is discovered.
And with great pacing, fabulous detail and a killer I didn't expect it was an enjoyable read. That I'd happily recommend to others.

Another great read in this gripping crime series. A woman’s body is found in a cabin and whilst it’s not clear straight away if she’s been murdered, her death is definitely suspicious. Amanda goes to speak to the woman’s husband and realises it’s someone she used to be friends with. Trent is a bit wary of Amanda’s connection to Tony but she assures him she is not biased towards him. Another woman soon dies in the same way and Amanda and Trent have their hands full trying to identify the killer. This is a gripping crime thriller. Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
When a wealthy woman who runs her own business dies of a suspicious death Amanda and Trent get the call. Amanda and Trent go to talk to her husband and surprise! It is one of Amanda's old friends. Maybe a bit more than just casual friends? Amand has problems dealing with the possibility that he could have killed his wife. But the more they investigate, the more she learns about him that she isn't too happy about. But did he kill his wife? There are some major twists in this story, and you won't know the killer's identity until the author is ready for you to know! Very well written story. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book.
Love this one! Between the razor sharp twists and turns are tender moments that are so appreciated. Detective Steele feels like your badass best friend throughout the series and I love rooting for her!
This time Amanda and Trent have to figure out who would want to kill a successful business woman. And it's complicated when it turns out Amanda knows the Husband. Is he as grief-stricken as he appears or a cold blooded liar?
As the story unfolded I worked out the who and why but I still enjoyed it. Will the usual mix of police business with personal life this book is quite emotional in parts.
I really enjoyed it and already look forward to Book 6.
This was yet another great addition to the series which I am loving. Each book in the series adds more layers to the relationships that Amanda has and looking forward to how it develops.
I want to say more but there will be spoilers so just read it and find out more.
I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.
I picked up this series on book three and compared to the other two that I have read this one was missing something in it's ingredients (maybe it was because I figured out the murderer early on, or was the personal connection that linked Amanda to the case which challenged my conception of her as a character to the case i'm not sure)
Having said that there were some interesting characters in this one and it's nice to see the development of the regular characters continuing and maybe book six will ignite the spark again.
I received a free electronic ARC of this excellent police procedural novel from NetGalley, author Carolyn Arnold, and publisher Bookouture. Thank you all for sharing your hard work with me. I have read Her Frozen Cry of my own volition, and this review reflects my honest opinion of this work. I am always pleased to recommend Carolyn Arnold to friends and family. She writes excellent who-dun-its, with personable protagonists and enough twists and turns in the story to keep us on our toes. I try to set aside enough time to finish the Arnold book I've last received as otherwise, I lose too much sleep.
Her Frozen Cry is the fifth of the Amanda Steele Series. The novel is completely stand-alone, but the series is rich with intrigue and emotion. We are back in with the Prince William County Police Department, riding with Amanda and Trent, homicide detectives who are faced with the sudden death of a fairly young, healthy woman. Alicia Gordon was a wife, mother, and CEO of New Belle, a very successful cosmetics company located in the county. Lab works tell them she was killed by poisoning, an overdose of Phenobarbital. Phenobarbital is the drug used by veterinarians to put ill or aging pets to sleep. It is occasionally prescribed for people in much smaller doses to combat depression. Where it was obtained and how it was administered are unknown, but her death is now considered murder.
And the 'how' and 'why' questions are where Amanda and Trent shine. But this time, they must work without the support and encouragement of their Sargent - Malone is in Intensive Care in a coma. And at home, Zoe is showing signs of obvious stress, but her problem is not shared with either Amanda or Zoe's twice-weekly session with her counselor. Amanda knows that this case is taking too much of her family time, time that should be spent helping Zoe adjust to the death of her parents and the new circumstances of her life, something Amanda didn't have to consider for the seven barren years between the death of her husband and daughter, and the adoption of six-year-old Zoe Parker after the murder of her only family, her parents. Thank goodness for the assistance they are receiving from Zoe's Godmother, schoolteacher Libby Dewinter. And for Trent's understanding. Much as she loves her job, Amanda has to prioritize Zoe's needs.

I guess it would be hard to have to think that an old frieInd could commit murder. That is what Amanda is dealing with in this book. Pretty good twist and turns. I hope this series does does not make Trent and Amanda a couple. I feel they would be better off as just partners. Just my opinion
Alicia Gordon, a major-league cosmetics entrepreneur, is found unexpectedly dead in a remote cabin she'd rented. Who called on her? Who watched in the dark as she died? Tony Bishop, an old flame of Detective Amanda Steele's, seems devastated to learn of his wife's death, but is he hiding something? Who has most to gain from Alicia's death? Amanda's sidekick, Trent Stenson, is sceptical that she can be impartial, but she's determined to find out the truth...whoever the killer is...even if it puts them both in grave danger.
Her Frozen Cry by the Queen of Suspense-Thrillers, Carolyn Arnold, has a believable plot with engaging, well-developed characters and plenty of action, that you're sure to enjoy. Get this unputdownable Detective Amanda Steele winner today - it'll keep you up all night!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily. I love, love, love the Amanda Steele series, and this one did not disappoint me. This book was the usual police procedural crime thriller that is standard for the Amanda Steele series, but this one had a lot more of the emotional side of Detective Steele, I already liked Detective Steele before I read this book, but after reading this book, I was able to see a more human side of her life. We all know these books are fictional, but when an author can make you "feel" something for the characters in the book, you know they are successful. If you have read any of the previous books, you know that Detective Steele is a "superhero" of sorts in her field as a hotshot detective. In this book you see more of the real struggles of daily living of juggling a career and a child, which make her, as a character, more relatable to the reader. She is a fantastic detective, but she is trying to raise a young daughter, Zoe. Zoe was orphaned when she actually witnessed the murder of her father. Amanda has taken her in and wants to nurture her and help her grow up to be a wonderful young woman. She truly loves this child as if she were her own. Zoe is young and has been severely traumatized, and yet Detective Steele wants to be the best detective AND mother that she can be.
This was a story of a murdered young woman, Alicia Gordon, who has built an empire in the cosmetics industry. The cause of death is not certain at first. Once they determine she has been murdered, Detective Steele is charged with another emotional task when she has to interview the husband, Tony. Tony and his former wife were best friends with Detective Steele and her deceased husband when he was living. Seeing him and having to interview a "friend" brings up all sorts of emotional trauma for her.
During the course of the investigation, she is interviewing another possible suspect, and this young woman literally drops dead at her feet! I do not know if emotional ride is even a good enough adjective for what Amanda Steele goes through in this book. You will go with the characters on an emotional roller coaster ride until the unexpected conclusion, all the while thinking you have it all figured out, only to realize you were wrong! Carolyn Arnold is a brilliant author who knows how to write a solid mystery while making her characters come alive off of the page. Her books are very clean which makes them even more enjoyable to me, as a reader. I am also rooting for Detective Steele and Detective Trent Stenson! I just know in my heart they are going to end up together! Find a seat and escape into Prince William Country, Virginia as you try to solve the mystery as the reader!
