As the fourth phase of the twenty-six-year-long civil war in Sri Lanka was about to begin, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, founder of the Art of Living, visited the island nation with a singular aim: to bring peace to its citizens while trying to mediate between Prabhakaran, leader of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), and the government.
The Tiger's Pause chronicles Gurudev's time in a highly strung country and also offers an exclusive look into the final chapters of Sri Lanka's deadly conflict.
Swami Virupaksha, who spent nine years in the country expounding the Art of Living courses and organizing Gurudev's visits, expertly charts the enormous hope of the Tamil and Sinhalese people against overwhelming misery. In prose that is both concise and empathetic, Swami Virupaksha gives readers a sweeping view of Gurudev's endeavours towards a ceasefire agreement, and the ups and downs of a country's quest for peace. The Tiger's Pause is the narrative of the Sri Lankan people, and gives us a sense of what it takes to understand and address a shared trauma.
The Tiger's Pause is a captivating journey through the history of one of the longest civil wars. This book gives a basic outline of one of Asia's longest civil wars that was fought between the LTTE or commonly know as Tamil Eelam and the Sinhalese government. Although not direct but this book has enumerated the peace efforts of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar to eradicate the chaos in the island nation and bring peace through meditation.
A journey amongst various people this book can bring forth profound meaningful episodes of personal accounts of one's life, here especially Swami Virupelaksha's. Written in very simple manner and layman language but lacks coherence between chapters. The ground reality of the Sri Lankan Tamil crisis is evident in this book but not in very reflective way, could have been better if more details were added.
Content - The book is about Srilanka's 26 years long war between LTTE and The Srilankan Government, the devastation that the people faced there mentally and physically and how Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and his disciples worked day and night to bring peace to the citizens and also to mediate between LTTE Leader, Prabhakaran and The Srilankan Government. 📖 My Views - War can never be the solution to any conflict and it only brings death, destruction and chaos. This book also portrays the same. We all know about LTTE and the Civil War in Srilanka. But this book showcases the dark and raw pictures of the situation there. The author of this book who have dealt with the situations first hand while organizing Art of Living classes, has charted everything in the book with expertise. Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the Founder of Art and Living and the author himself being the disciple of Gurudev worked tirelessly day and night for several years to bring peace and to bring out the tattered citizens out of the trauma. . The book also showcases the raw pictures of war claden Srilanka, how the citizens were fleeing the warzone the miseries they went through. . The narration is amazing and you can almost see the entire scenarios infront of your eyes through this book. . If you are aware of this war or if you are not, you must read this book once.

"A violence-free society and a happy life is the birthright of every individual" __ Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
📍"The Tiger's pause " is very well written book by author Swami virupaksha who as a key member of the spiritual leader’s conflict-resolution team spent nine years in Sri Lanka — during and after the country’s war-torn days. which is based on real story of Gurudev who went to risk his own life, doing all that it takes to restore peace and harmony. It is not just about his passion for helping others, but his care about solving problems that directly affect people’s lives, well – being and progress in a major way.
📍This book showcases Gurudev's "spirit of responsibility" towards making a difference in the lives of a nation and its people," Juan Carlos Losada, Member of Parliament, Colombia.
📍 Personal insight : I found very insightful book i got to know many information about Sri Lanka crises and conflicts over LITE and main thing is how Gurudev visited the island nation with a definite aim to bring peace among citizens.
📍 Swami virupaksha provided a unique insight into Gurudev effort to promote peace in Sri Lanka for over a decade.
