Inward Sin: The Greatest Danger in the Lives of Muslims

Rate this book
Most Muslims today are turning their attention towards analyzing Islam and trying to present the true state of the Muslims, but they only look at outward actions and statements. These deeds and statements are nothing but the upper floors of Islam's building; they cannot be strengthened nor consolidated unless they are relying on that humble, hidden part of the building known as the foundations. These foundations

are established in the heart, so how can the foundations of Islam's building be established therein? How can a connection be made between the foundations of this building and its upper floors, such that the Muslims can guarantee that it will not be blown away by the wind or rocked by a storm, and that it will not be inundated by the forces of tyranny and base desires?

The mission of this book is to answer these questions and reveal the ways to make this connection between one's Islamic life inside the heart and one's Islamic life as manifested via one's limbs and organs.

One of the best I read this year, this might not be a thick book, but the contents in this book are great for a seeker like me.

It explains about inward sins, and the best part how the shaykh explain meticulously on how we can cure our hearts.

This book is a reminder for me on how should i live this life as a Muslim.

To remind us of what is our true identity; the slave of Allāh.

I highly recommend you to read this book.

The reason for disunity in the Muslim community according to shaykh is actually the corruption of our inward self. So shaykh mentions the remedy and how to go about it.
A very practical book.
A recommended read.

Bahasanya lumayan berat jujur jadi kudu pelan pelan bacanya.

Re-read this book and it blew my mind louder than the first experience. I'll caption this:
"...find a way in which you can think freely without your thoughts being infiltrated by anything."

It was totally true because I was reading the book in two different conditions, and huhu :')

Al-Buti contends in this work that internal sins like arrogance, envy, and greed pose the greatest threat to Muslim society rather than external enemies. It discussed how crucial inward action is, how the heart can sin, the danger, the source, the repercussions, the remedy, and how to use the remedy.

In this book, al-Buti implicitly encourage the readers to regularly contemplate because according to the hadith of Abu Hurairah from Prophet Muhammad, He said:
Allah is pure and only accepts that which is pure.

Moreover, he also mentioned an interesting quote in the tasawwuf chapter;
When the ilnesses and afflictions of this world have been moved from your heart and you have not been influenced by a false tribalism; wherever the world turns towards you or away from you, whether people praise you and laud you or rebuke you and defame you, it makes no difference to you
.

al-Buti also tries to remind the readers not to fall into a vicious cycle of constantly debating with our enemies; every time we provide an answer to one of their problems, they present a new problem. Thus, if we couldn't respond it properly, a silent would be the best answer.

:')

IMO, this book offers a thoughtful examination of Islamic ethics and helpful advice for Muslims attempting to conquer their inner struggles. On matters like social justice and gender roles, it holds conservative opinions.

This is my first introduction to Shaykh Ramadan's writings, despite hearing much about them and seeing how beloved they are as a figure in Sunni circles. The paper beautifully presents the main main reason why Muslims, in our families and communities, today are so divided: our souls' unhealthy attachment to this world (and illnesses such as malice, lust, greed, tribalism/ sectarianism etc.), and the remedy to this sickness: freedom from our nafs (lower desires) by remembering Allah.

The Shaykh presents different means of remembering Allah (such as keeping a daily wird or set of prayers and litanies, complaining and begging Allah, reminding yourself of the final destination, avoiding haram sources of income). They also mention the very basics of Tasawwuf and how it shouldn't be a foreign concept to Islam, and that the very foundations of this concept is Islam in of itself, keeping a balance between the inward and the outward and many other things in this paper.

It is a short treatise but filled with much benefit and much great advice on how to deal with the divide of the Muslims and the illnesses of the self. It is definitely a great introduction to the Sufi Path without referencing particular Sufi Schools and explaining the main foundation of this path.

Ps. They mention Allama Iqbal too so thats a massive bonus :)
