Honest Abe is a contemporary, age gap, spicy romance with a touch of drama and unexpected

Blurb: Watch and weep, New York City, your most eligible bachelor is now off the market. We’ve heard from a reliable source that Abraham Everett found love in the arms of one Blair Webster. The beautiful couple has been spotted around town living their best life. We’d kill to know what happens behind closed doors, but judging by the cracking electricity between them we can safely say ‘not much sleeping’. Rumor has it that *erotic* doesn't even begin to cover what’s happening in Mr. Everett’s bedroom.
From what we know, Miss Blair Webster is a paralegal and they’ve met when the business mogul was out on a date with another woman! Too bad for his date, he couldn’t keep his eyes off of the brunette that was spying on him from the bar.
Despite the thirteen years age gap between them, the love birds seem to live a modern fairytale.
But what will they do when the fairytale turns into a murder trial?

I never chose to be a writer... Writing chose me. In Romania, we have a popular tradition for when a child's hair it's cut for the first time. Friends and family gather to celebrate the future of the child and the little one is given a tray full of objects. Now, on this tray, you can place anything from money, car keys to food, and pets. Every object is a symbol and it's said that the first three things the child would pick will determine his or her path in life.

My loves, I picked red lipstick, a pencil, and a glass full of whiskey...I picked the romance writer's starting pack.

I was fortunate enough to put my work out into the world, become an author, and share this incredible and uplifting journey with each and every one of you.

I enjoyed this romance read so much!!!!
Abraham and Blair was a wonderful couple, despite the 16 years age gap between them.
Blair was witty, feisty, focused, passionate and loved her work.
Abraham met his match when he encountered Blair and it was the right time to come to his senses and regroup! I liked the development of his character and his feelings.
Their banter was fantastic, they shared an amazing chemistry and connection, as well as very steamy moments!

There was an unpleasant revelation towards the end, yet enough grovelling.
The guilty person for the crime committed came out of nowhere.

This story was very well written and developed, engrossing from beginning to end.

I will definitely read the next story of this series!!

I don’t remember reading a book in the past and being so confused in the first 50 pages about what was I reading exactly…? You know, there is erotica where everything is about sex/ kink and the plot, if there, is just a little bonus on the side. Then there are adult romances where the plot is the main driver and you have, or you have not, some explicit sex scenes. Here, I wasn't sure, where this book stands. There was ferocious intensity to interactions between Abraham and Blair right from the beginning and nobody could question the attraction that swallowed everything around them.
“We had this intoxicating, magnetic reaction from the first moment and we both agreed we needed to ride it out.”

It was hot but I found it brazen at times and I didn’t know if I should cringe or find it hilarious…
“What’s wrong, babe?”
“Every woman in this town has the hots for you, that’s what’s wrong.”
“Ah, you’re flattering me, but I wouldn’t say every woman. Some. Most.” Cocky bastard.
“The girl that took our order definitely does. She was all pink in the cheeks when you got close to her.”
“Or maybe she was blushing because I told her to bring you a Martini and not stop until you had your fifth because that would guarantee you’ll ride me like a cowgirl tonight.”
I looked at him, wide-eyed and gaping. “You did not.”
“Blair, it’s me. Of course I did.”

What I loved about this part of the book was, that it didn’t try to sell it as a romance, or love for that matter. It was what it was, a mutually agreed arrangement based on sex and passion. But slowly they fell into intimacy that sex could never achieve. They were babysitting and entertaining friends, and sex became just a little bonus on the side. This transformation of their relationship was beautifully written, and I enjoyed it immensely. I loved how direct and open they were. They were both strong characters, and as a couple they were just so adorable and there was no doubt in my mind that they were made for each other.
“You found yourself an amazing man, babe! He is kind, he is fun, he plays with random kids you bring to his door. Not to mention he is Abraham fucking Everett. The tabloids love him and the banks love him more.”

I loved their banter, I loved her teasing and mocking him about his age (Blair was 27 and Abraham 43). I even liked their insecurities, his about his age, hers about him waking up one day and realizing he was roped into an arrangement that was so similar to a relationship, and a relationship he never wanted…
She was looking for a guy to charm her socks off, be her support system, and work his way to a cheesy proposal. I was definitely not that guy. Give me liberty or give me death. Give me anything as long as it’s not marriage. But didn’t I deserve a chance, though? I wanted her so bad. I was like a hound, sniffing around, trying to find her scent and following it back to her. Having the knowledge that Blair Webster was in the same town and I wasn’t with her right now, drilling her pussy, was torture.

He was a knight in shining armor, I was just scared that his armor might be so shiny it would blind me, leaving me alone in the dark. Without him. And what would I be then?

And how entertaining this part of the book was! I was laughing multiple times, even though I wouldn’t say it is a rom-com.
“Are you busy?”
“No, actually the opposite. I pissed Viviane off a few days ago, and now she’s covering for me. I have too much free time.”
“Let me understand, you pissed off your second in command and to punish you, she is doing your work?”
“Yes, she knows I hate it.”
“You and Viviane Thompson have a weird relationship.”

What I didn’t like was the plot twist at 80%, I found it overly dramatic. .
Also some misspellings made for a funny read (noting instead of nothing, seals representative instead of sales rep, jacked instead of jacket...).

I loved though that the book wasn’t just another recycled story, even though a self-made older billionaire and a young feisty paralegal might sound a little bit clichéd. The writing and the humor took it to the next level and I enjoyed their romance, despite my confusion in the beginning.
I was starting to think maybe my fate found me. Blair was always there, so close, all I had to do was find her. For too long I was busy looking somewhere else, making horrible mistakes and burying myself in work to make sure I wasn’t available, but somehow Blair Webster dug through all that and found me.

This romcom made me laugh on many scenes. Hands down Abe was a great guy he was a playboy who didn’t wanna commit he was older that’s how he felt until he met Blair who was laughing at him when he was bored out of his mind on a date (girl was eavesdropping on the boring date). So he use a excuse to fake they know eachother. And that’s how this relationship begins. A simple hanging out but my girl Blair puts her foot down she knows they aren’t meant to be she wants forever a partner and she knows Abe isn’t looking for that he just wants a one night kinda girl. Or so she thinks because my man Abe doesn’t stop he knows Blair is different so he’s going to show her he’s different. The Wooing was so funny and cute they had a lot of sexual tension and both mostly Blair was the one who was hesitant. It took a turn when they went on vacation and we’ll words were said and they finally broke down each others walls.

Should be smooth sailing right nope.. someone kept a secret and trust was broken I won’t say whoooo but it was hard and broke them up. Don’t worry there a HEA the groveling was good..

The thing that made my review lower was Blair.. I was tired of her jealousy once or twice was fine.. but everyyyyyyyy woman it got a little annoying after that. I wish Abe was more jealous.. I rather have the man jealous then the woman.. for safety squad Abe goes on 2 dates in the story the 2nd one was after meeting Blair and was suppose to be a ONS but he turned it down and left that's it. Nothing else happens.

Low angst, tiny ow drama/no om(H went on 2 dates nothing happens), no cheating, slight secondary chars, drama, sexy times, no virgins ( H is kinda of a manwhore in his past but with h he isn’t)

I can’t even put into words how good this book is. I went into Honest Abe with no expectations or idea about the plot and I am so freaking satisfied with this wonderful romance read! It’s exactly what I needed after a disappointing book I was looking forward to.

Honest Abe and Diane Portman-Ray came to me at just the right time. This book is hilarious! I was laughing out loud multiple times. I don’t even like romcoms and I wouldn’t necessarily classify Honest Abe as a “romcom” but I swear to God I was dying at some of these parts.

What an adorable, realistic, exciting, melt your heart perfect romance! These two are just everything & this story is everything!

If you’re looking for an amazing contemporary romance with strong amazing characters this book is for you.

I will definitely be reading more from this author. I absolutely loved this book and it’s in my 2022 favorites list.

Blair and Abe are just so adorable and remind me of what being in a relationship is actually like. This book doesn’t skip the good parts. Other authors gloss over the actual relationship portion of a book which I don’t understand because to me that is the BEST part! I love seeing a couple together living their lives and being so cute.

There’s a major twist and I didn’t want to put this down. Loved this!

I laughed, I swooned , I shouted WTF and I loved this book in just a few hours.
Abe is … something else, he’s that alpha hero that I didn’t knew I would like because he surely isn’t over the top alpha like others and Blair just brings out the best in him.
Their banter is amazing and from the first scene I was drawn up into their chemistry and I wanted to feel that happily ever after right away.
A must read contemporary romance!

First off, the front and back of the cover is stunning! Can’t wait to see it in person when I get my copy. This book took me by surprised. I was wrapped into it within the first chapter.

Blair and Abraham’s first meeting was not only hilarious but it was super romantic. Blair goes into the pub for a drink and spots Abraham from across the way on a date with a model who keeps taking to him about plastic surgery for down there (if you know what I’m saying). She obviously can’t help but eavesdrop. All of a sudden Abraham comes up to her and starts making lies to get him out of this date. The chemistry from the very beginning was addicting! The spice was amazing, Diane I have to give you a round of applause on that. I had butterflies all over!

This is a fast pace, age gap, billionaire romance. It’s funny, sexy, intriguing and mysterious (oh yes, just you wait. You won’t see what’s to come!!)

This book was definitely amazing and make me to rest after my previous book that I have read.

Abe and Blair is fenomenal couple who fit perfectly.
Together with this playful side of them make me to enjoy very much the story, and I can admit that Abe is definitely one of my joyful character ever that I have read. He make me crack with he's comments and the banter that Blair and he make.
The twist in the end get me a little unprepared ,but so far i love the book and Diane make me again in love with her characters!

3⭐- good but disappointing

I really had high hopes for this book seeing that the synopsis really hooked me up but diane got me down on this point. I wanna make it clear that the book itself it's not necessarily bad, actually I really liked her writing and there is very good smut in there, the thing that made me not like this book as much as I wished was that the synopsis promised something and in the book itself hadn't much impact. (From now on you might receive spoilers so don't read if you don't want to)
It was said about a murder trial in the synopsis and about their relationship surviving it or not but this fucking murder thing happened only in 83 FUCKING PERCENT OF THE BOOK and if lasted 50 pages was too much and that really pissed me off because I read all those freaking pages of adults with teenager drama complex "does he really like me?? 😭😭" "I change my opinions really quickly deal with that" (wich wasn't that bad actually, only redundant) blablabla waiting for the damn plot that promised me and nothing. when it finally came it wasn't what I expected, very very frustrating because the book have space to build a good 'criminal' drama which diane lost it
I recommend reading for the smut but not for elaborated content

Diane is an amazing writer and an amazing author who has been a binge author for me ever since I picked up the malavita series but I guess this one was just not it.

Honest Abe has an amazing start and I laughed my guts out which was exactly what I needed after a depressing week but as the story progressed I was kind of hoping for something darker.

In the blurb, it had given me some dark vibes and I was literally hooked on it.

The blurb was kind of not matching with the whole story and I thought that it was kind of misleading as to it was written that a murder trial was going to affect their whole love story but it was only provided with the last few chapters and I wanted something more angsty.

All though the characters were written beautifully, Abe is my new book boyfriend I don't care what anyone says.

All in all great book but there were some parts that I kind of felt too long and too stretched out.

I loved it tho and I hope you pick it up for a sweet romance mood!

Trope: age gap, billionaire
HEA: yes
POV: dual

If you’re looking for a quick, steamy age gap billionaire, look no further. This book was exactly what I needed at a time where I was in a slump and feeling down. I was laughing and swooning while reading it. I really enjoyed the banter between Blair and Abe in the first 20% of the book as he’s trying to convince her to go out with him. She pushed back on him and I was really enjoying that. The steamy scenes were great, especially some good office naughtiness that you need from a billionaire romance, as well as their chemistry.

This was actually really satisfying in the smutty department, plot and character wise? I’m not so sure. I mean he’s a FORTY THREE year old Silver Fox, you’d think he’d act more mature being “Honest Abe”.. Ending wasn’t satisfying either, it was too fast paced on where the author was wanting to lead us with the suspense.

A good editor can make or break a book.
The concept is pretty good but boyyyy the editing is lacking. The constant name repetition and ‘baby’ was incredibly annoying. This isn’t a JB song.
Small errors such as ‘faith’ instead of ‘fate’ and ‘alfa’ instead of ‘alpha’ gave this published book a Wattpad vibe.

Now, aside from editorial errors, there were some issues I took with the book.

1. Blair was drunk and Abe still has sex with her. Sure it was pre-agreed upon, but man, your girl is plastered. It’s morally wrong to have intercourse when she can’t give informed consent.

2. The convoluted scenarios where an attractive woman flirts with Abe was eye-roll worthy. And Blair’s jealousy was absolutely childish and petty.

3. Let’s send personal and inappropriately sexual messages from our WORK EMAILS said no one ever.

4. Blair absolutely had a right to majorly pissed off when Abe cancelled her plans to attend HER friends birthday party. He had absolutely no right to do so.

This shld have been in dnf category but i skimmed till end!

i wish i had!
there is an accident scene where MFC gets thrown off the horse as she didnt duck in time , gets hit by a branch.
is taken to the hospital immediately fearing she might have concussion. she remains unconscious for 6hrs, wakes up, immediately is discharged and they immediately board a flight!
that is not how u treat someone who banged her head when she got thrown off a goddam speeding horse!!!!!!

and the internal dialogues of abe! i was rolling my eyes so hard!!!!
the ex wife turning stalker later turning dead , the detective arresting blair without even completing his investigation was the most pathetic twist of plot i have ever seen!
and i have watched C grade hindi movies! I know pathetic!
the epilogue was just weird!

-dual POV
-he's 43, she's 26
-no om drama
-manwhore hero - every Thursday he takes the night off to go out and picks a random woman to fuck
-non virgin heroine
-insta lust -> love
-hero: possessive, obsessed, jealous, childish, cocky, a bit shallow and pretentious
-heroine: pathetic, horny, desperate, weak, jealous, dumb, extremely unprofessional, immature
(despite all their flaws I didn't think the MCs were unlikeable)
-ow - the hero was on a date with ow when he met the h, he ditched her the moment he saw the h; a few days later after the h rejected him he went on a date with ow -a woman he fucks every time she's in town-, she threw herself at him but he wasn't in the mood bc he couldn't stop thinking about the h so he turned her down; there were also a good amount of women who had the hots for the hero which made the h super jealous, but he had no interest in them; there was another woman from his past who caused THE drama in the story
-both celibate after meeting/no cheating
-push/pull - she pushed him away at first bc she wanted a relationship and he was not into that, he only wanted to fuck, he was persistent though and the h was too horny for him so in the end she agreed to a fwb relationship and eventually both fell in love
-the hero hunts for sport 🤮🤮🤮 , the heroine was disgusted by this (as she should) and told him his hunting days were over, he told her he wasn't that crazy about the "sport" anyway, that he wouldn't hunt anymore if it bothered her that much
-I cringed every time she called him 'dude' and 'baby'... yuck
-the drama:
-what I didn't like:
-5 day separation
-epilogue: 5 years later - they're married and adopted a teenage boy

~Review~

Blair is a paralegal and is grinding and working long hours for awhile now. But it’s paid off because she just got a bonus and wants to take herself out to celebrate. She goes to her favorite rooftop bar in New York. She orders an old fashion and sees and hears a couple on a date she assumes. The man seems very disinterested in his date and bored. She can’t help but watch them and of course she notices how handsome this man is. His eyes connect with Blair’s and he decides that Blair is his out for his horrible date he is on. Hahaha

Abraham aka Abe is a CEO in an investment company that he himself founded. He is always working and just going through the motions. He is always with women but he doesn’t want a relationship with them he takes them on dates and has a good time and moves on. When he sees Blair at the bar when he is on a horrible date he goes over to her and pretends he knows her to get out of his date. Then once she leaves Abe and Blair have a fun night in New York and when it’s time to go separate ways they kiss and the night is over.

I loved the beginning and how Abe and Blair met it was so funny and I was laughing out loud. Blair is a young paralegal just trying to maker her own way and she loves her life she doesn’t see Abe coming at all. Abe is an older man but he doesn’t want to settle down at this point because he has trust issues with women but he does have a good reason.

The chemistry and sparks between Abe and Blair is so good and Abe is an Alpa CEO and takes charge but not in a bad way. He wants Blair and he always gets what he wants. 😉
I love a good billionaire romance I think you can tell from my page that is always my go to. This hits the mark for everything I love in this trope with of course some drama but I think it balanced out perfectly.

There is some desk action and that is my absolute favorite! 🔥😉👏

TROPES : Age gap, Contemporary

I loved this book so much! This was a totally different style from her mafia series and I. LOVED. IT. I honestly had a great time. I laughed and swooned so hard for Abe and Blair!

"Ok, you're right. I want to climb you like a monkey climbs up a palm tree. Happy?"
"Are you saying my dick is the banana?"

I cracked up so hard. Blair was a happy woman, she had a good job and an amazing best friend. When she goes to bar to wind down, she sees Abe. That's how their story begins. Blair was a strong woman and that's one of my weaknesses. She gave Abe as good as she got and I enjoyed their funny banter too much. Abe, a businessman is just getting through life when the universe shows him what he's missing, Blair, that too when he's on a date! If there's anyone capable of handling Blair, it was him. They were just perfect. Salvatrice will be my forever fav couple by Diane but this book put a smile on my face the whole time. Totally recommend this!

I had very high expectations for this book…
-
I was very excited about this book I thought there would be mystery along the way (I hate mystery)

Blair (I imagined her as Camila Queiroz)

She didn’t annoy me as I thought. There were times when she did but she’s an overthinker and we all are too. She’s alright nothing really bad about her.

Abraham (I imagined him as David Gandy)-

He is still the reason I like older men :D
Very cocky but I loved how he saw things from a different perspective when it came to Blair. Love how he did everything to make Blair happy and feel cherished!
The reason I had high expectations is that I thought the book was about them being married and like solving the murder trail along the way. I thought we would get flashbacks about them together then go back to them being married and having trouble I guess?
The blurb made me think that and had me excited.

So I ask the arc from the author diane portman-ray and it was my very first arc of the life and let me tell you it was so so good the book 5 star read through and through from the very first meeting to the whole casual to serious thing the build up was so good author did such a great job of shaping and building their relationship... Age gap was icing on the cake... It was comedy, sassy, funny and where it required tears there were tears... One of the best reads of the year for me in my Top 10 reads till date and I know it is early to say but this book will be in my top 10 reads till the end... You will have a lot of fun reading this book and you won't get bored for one second in the book. I love the e-book formatting...diane's book's formatting are so good e-book or paperback her formatting's are pleasant to eyes worth buying the paperbacks. So I would conclude that I love the book and you won't be disappointed in this book that is for sure.

Hmm, where do I begin? Let me say I laughed, I sighed, and wanted to throat punch them both. At times, I even questioned the title. (Thanks for my advanced copy Diane)

Let's see, Blair was a detailed type of girl who questioned things, and I loved that about her. Her inner monolog at times had me in tears laughing. I absolutely loved her drive with her career.

Now, my feelings for Abe were all over the place. I loved how alpha he was, but at times, it was unnecessary. The way he was so sweet with Blair melted my heart. I truly liked his character.

I will admit that twist I did NOT see coming at all. That is when I felt like doing some throttling. I won't say much about it because well I will give things away.

I received an arc for a honest review.

I can not tell you how much I freaking love this book. I coudn't put the book down. By the time I know, I already finished it. I want more of this world!!

It's a contemporary romance book about a billionaire who fell in love with a paralegal. Abe would do anything to get Blair to agree to go on a date with him. Blair tried to deny as much as she wants, but she was totally attracted to him too. Abe is totally an alpha hero. He can totally come off as a stalker too. LOL Their chemistry was off the roof! A favorite couple for me.

There were scenes where I laughed so much and scenes where I want to strangle them. The twist, I was not expecting at all. It made me love the book even more.

This book was odd, there were a few things that the FMC said that would irritate me like calling the MMC dude all the time, also she was written younger than what her age is. She’s supposed to be 27. I felt like she was 22. The MMC felt like he was in his 50s but he was 43. If you read this book on Kindle, it is oddly formatted and riddled with grammatical errors however, I love the book all the same.

The MMC is completely unhinged, there was a slight plot twist that was predictable at a certain point but nonetheless, I ate it up. I finish his book lesson 24 hours and I’m going to stand by what I say when I say this is probably my favorite read of the month.

Abe is a silver fox playing the field without any plans to settle down. But that all changes when he meets Blair.
The connection between Blair and Abe was instant. Their first meeting was funny and their relationship filled with great banter between them. Their chemistry made for some great tension and hot steamy scenes. They were perfect and adorable together.
The story was fast paced with some light drama near the end. It was enjoyable and easy to read. Perfect for when you’re in a mood for a billionaire age-gap romcom.

I absolutely loved this book to the point where I'm not finding words. This is a new fav from Diane. From the beginning the book is spicy and funny and I love that. There's not a lot of drama which I found to be very refreshing. Abe is truly such a great character I love him, I swear he's perfect. Blair is amazing as well, always knows what she wants and when she doesn't the side characters come through to help. Diane always manages to write the best side characters to help the MCs. If you're looking for a light read this book is perfect so don't miss out.

I throughly enjoyed this book, it was well written the characters chemistry was off the chart and the smut was smutty lolz.

Abe and Blair were a puzzle pieces that just fit regardless of the age difference and social standing. I applaud the author for writing such seamless laugh out loud moments with lots of spice. The possessiveness and jealousy from both characters was chef kiss and the description of Abe made me want to search for men over 40 lolz. I loved both characters individually and separately.

The unexpected plot twist at the end of perfect. I highly recommend this book
