Searching for a new home for herself and her younger sister, Dolly, Carrie Watson decided they should write to two Baggs, Wyoming, cattle ranchers seeking wives so they could live close to each other. Too bad the man she wrote to never responded. Annoyed with her potential husband’s disregard, and after being warned that part of Wyoming was outlaw country, Carrie decided against her and Dolly going there, even after the rancher writing to Dolly sent tickets for then both.
Much to Carrie’s distress, Dolly, the little traitor, left a letter stating she fell in love with Jesse Hardin. She left a note saying she decided to marry him, and hoped Carrie would join her. Carrie had every intention of joining her sister--to save her from making a foolish mistake by marrying Jesse.
After arriving in Baggs, Carrie learns Dolly departed with a man who claimed he was sent to bring her to her intended. She finds rancher and local sheriff, Devlin Anders preparing to ride out with Jesse and a posse to search for Dolly. She insists on going.
Devlin, reluctantly accepted the sheriff job in order to track down the cattle rustlers plaguing the area. As for the mail order bride his friend, Jesse, lined up, when did he ever have time to reply to her letter? Next thing he knows, he’s called on to help search for Jesse’s missing bride. Just before they leave, the missing woman’s headstrong sister arrives. In spite of her plan to join the search, the posse manages to leave without her.
Devlin’s posse tracks their quarry who is headed for outlaw country. If only Carrie did not insist on trailing behind…
Zina Abbott is the pen name used by Robyn Echols for her historical novels. The first two novellas in the Eastern Sierra Brides 1884 series, Big Meadows Valentine and A Resurrected Heart, are now available.
The author currently lives with her husband in California near the “Gateway to Yosemite.” She enjoys family history and any kind of history. When she is not piecing together novel plots, she pieces together quilt blocks.
Baggs, Wyoming Territory 1878 Prepare to be captured from the first page, when the adventure of Carrie and Dolly and let's not forget Devlin and Jesse begins! Two sisters and two best friends. Yep, that is the plan, but it will take a journey to pull them all together.
Dolly takes off first because she knows Carrie is reluctant, so that sends Carrie hurrying after her to Baggs. Unfortunately Dolly goes missing and the fun begins!
Carrie is strong, determined and as the older sister, has always made the decisions for her and her sister. But this time, he "finance" that she is determined not to marry, steps up and it seems they go head to head!
Zina writes so smoothly, with her historical facts and knowledge, that the story is seamless and you are reading into the night! Absolutely loved this story and wait until you see what happens!!
A Bride for Devlin is written by Zina Abbott. This is a historical romance and part of the Sheriffs Mail order bride series. I have not read all of the other books in the series. They can all be read as stand alone books. The Sherriff Mail Order Bride Series is written by a variety of authors that focus on a central theme.
In this story we will travel back to Baggs Territory, Wyoming in 1878. This is one of my favorite time periods. Carrie Watson is heading here in search of her sister, Dolly. Both Dolly and Carrie were supposed to be mail order brides but Dolly took off first since Carrie was hesitant. They were not given much of a choice when their step father gave them an ultimatum. When she arrives in Baggs Territory her sister is nowhere to be found. Nor is any sort of law enforcement except Devlin. Devlin has been hired by ranchers who are tired of cattle rustling. (Cattle Rustling if you were not sure is another word for cattle stealing). Devlin is already frustrated he has not been able to figure out who is stealing the cattle, but now he has Carrie demanding he help find her sister. Jesse is Devlin’s best friend and was the one that Dolly was supposed to marry. Carrie was going to marry Devlin, but wanted to find her sister first. Devlin wants to find out who is behind the cattle rustling first before anything else. Besides, he was not thrilled about Jesse signing him up to be married. I have read several books by this author. She always will draw you in within the first few pages. This book is 142 pages and a perfect lazy afternoon read. Her research is impeccable and her writing flows together seamlessly. Her characters are well written. I received a copy of this book through the author, all thoughts are my own.
The author has brought us another outstanding story that is fun while being somewhat different. This one is about two sisters, Carrie and Dolly Watson, who must leave their home due to their stepfather's ultimatum. They decide their only option is to become MOB and so they begin their search with the idea of choosing men that will allow them to live close together. Carrie has second thoughts about her intended but headstrong Dolly packs their trunks and then vanishes leaving a note for Carrie. Carrie immediately leaves for Wyoming intending to keep Dolly from making, what she believes is a mistake. Carrie meets her intended, Sheriff Devlin, and immediately decides she will not marry him but then discovers Dolly has been kidnapped by an outlaw. Carrie is determined to find her sister. This is where the fun, misunderstandings, and mishaps begin. Will Sheriff Devlin and the posse find Dolly? What happens when Carrie insists on tagging along with the posse? Will Carrie change her mind, and she and Sheriff Devlin form a loving relationship that will grow into a HEA? Be sure and read this outstanding story to find out? It is a real page turner, and I know you will enjoy it as much as I did.
I really enjoyed this read. I’ve read many mail bride stories and this one is by far my favorite! The storyline moves along with plenty of danger and adventure. I loved the Carrie character, with her oldest sister care and protection of her younger and more genteel sister, Dolly. Carrie has skills, toughness, grit, courage, and many conditions before entering into marriage. Carrie is a very strong character while Dolly follows her heart. The prospect grooms are also well suited to their future brides. A more gentle Jesse attracts Dolly, while a local sheriff who has some areas that need tending must convince Carrie he isn’t really so unsuited after all. I highly recommend this read! I received an ARC. My opinions are my own.
This is a sweet short mail order bride tale that was threatened by a cattle rustler kidnapping his future sister-in-law. The story was written by Zina Abbott and she has so much adventure and excitement packed into these pages. Devlin and his friend are lonely single rancher in a lonely part of the country. Jessie, his friend, decides they need to write for mail order brides, but Devlin rejects the idea only to discover Jessie does it anyway. Dolly is ready to be Jessie’s bride , but her sister Carrie is not very eager to to accept. You will greatly enjoy discovering how these four find their happily ever after.
A Bride for Devlin by Zina Abbott is a sweet, fun and entertaining book, that you will want to read. This is such a well written book and the story was fast-paced. It definitely keeps you turning pages to find out what happens next. I loved Carrie's spunk, determination and love for her sister. And Devlin tries to stand up to Carrie, but she's not listening to a word he says. Since neither one of them were sure about marriage, will they be able to work through their differences? I look forward to reading more books by Zina Abbott. With her vivid descriptions and historical facts, you feel like you are living the story, not just reading it.
After the dead of their mother the sisters Dolly and Carrie need to leave and becoming a mail order bride is the best option. They want to stay close to each other so marrying two friends would be a great solution. Carrie isn’t very enthusiastic to marry Devlin the local sheriff but Dolly wants to marry Jesse. When Dolly leaves, Carrie needs to find her and nobody needs to be in her way, especially Devlin….. Really entertaining story about familylove, first impressions and love that build after really to get to know someone.
A Bride for Devlin is a well written and researched mail order historical romance. The opening scene immediately caught my attention and had me reading through the night! The story is filled with suspense. Having two sisters (Carrie and Dolly Watson) as mail order brides is a different twist on this historical troupe. Sheriff Devlin definitely has his hands full with the twists and turns of keeping the ladies safe. Nice attention to details, unique characters, and a satisfying resolution. Well done Zina Abbott.
I am not sure who is most stuuborn...Carrie or Devlin! But despite their stubborness they are both characters that wiggle their way into your heart with their protective nature, their determination to do the right thing and the way they grudgingly find a compromise...they are perfect for each other...if only either of them were looking for a spouse! This is a lovely read on Kindle Unlimited.
Well this was book 6 in this series and it is just as good as the past 5 books. This one is about Carrie and Devlin neither one wanted to Merry let alone each other. After Carrie’s sister runs off to merry Devlin’s friend what choice does she have but to follow. Things happen to Carrie’s sister, which leads Carrie becoming closer to Devlin. This is very well written book. Very enjoyable.
Author Zina Abbott wrote another spectacular book, "A Bride For Devlin". The characters are awesome and the book drew me in from the beginning. At times, I felt emotionally then at times I felt humor In the book. I love this book and I highly recommend reading " A Bride For Devlin ". In my opinion this is a splendid book, you wouldn't want to miss.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book. This review is one hundred percent my opinion.
I think I can understand why Carrie is still single, would take a strong man to break through her strong will. Devlin is just that man, in spite of a few short comings, like remembering to write. Okay, so he had some extenuating circumstances but Carrie had no way of knowing that. Zina Abbott keeps me entertained and amused at the interactions between Carrie and Devlin. I really would like to have an epilogue set about 10-15 years in the future and see how they are faring.
A well developed enjoyable story about two sisters who are kicked out of their home by their stepfather after their mother died. They decided to become mail order brides and choose men who live near each other. The youngest sister falls for one man but the older sister doesn't like her match. The men send tickets and cash. The youngest takes her part of the tickets/money and leaves while the oldest is working. What to do?
Ooh! I love a enemy to lover romance! I loved the slow build of their affection for each other. Well, maybe it wasn't actually slow, but you could see the stages and improvements in their relationship! I loved that he finally kept his promise! But my favorite parts were his growing admiration for her tenacity and her request for the rocking chair!
A Bride for Develin The Sheriff's Mail Order Bride Book 6
This is a very good story and the sixth book in this series about a mail order bride not wanting to marry Devlin because he did not writebut she changed her mind when she learns his secret
I enjoyed the book, there was romance with some suspense thrown in. I really like the way Devlin would say something out loud, but think the opposite. Good clean romance.
This was a very interesting story from beginning to the end. Loved the characters. Bossy Carrie, sweet Dolly, and their chosen grooms, Devlin and Jesse. Works out beautifully. Great story.
I enjoyed reading this book. It was an easy read and I read it in one sitting. Carrie was a great character. One could just picture her. One feels sorry for Devlin when he couldn't write and. it seems like he has dislexa.
Take a younger stubborn obstinate sister who refuses to listen to her bigger and much wiser sister, to get into a sticky and dangerous situation! Excellent story and glad I read it!
Zina Abbott, one of my favorite authors, wrote another sweet and entertaining book which I thoroughly enjoyed. Loved the characters along with the storyline and it was very easy to read in one sitting. JudyE
I always enjoy a book by Zina Abbott. I know the quality and research she puts into her Christian writings. These two main characters are really unique ! Enjoy reading , I certainly did!
This was a well written story with highly developed characters and enough action to completely hold and keep your attention. I have read a few books by Zina Abbott and she never disappoints. Enjoyed this short story, that was well paced.
A great story that keeps you entertained from beginning to end. You will love Carrie and Dolly, two sisters wanting to find husbands living close so they can stay together. Jesse is determined to marry and drag his friend Devlin along.
