He’s an introverted nerd, and I’m the football player everybody wants. But I only want to drag his shy, adorkable, irresistible self into my bed.
All I’ve ever been good at is running fast with a football clutched tight to my side. As a star football player for the KMU Wolves, I’ve had any guy I wanted for years, and I'm more muscle than smarts. My new roommate, Logan, is something else completely. He’s the bookworm I never was, and it seems like the closest thing he’s had to a love life is with his books.
I don’t do relationships, and I sure as hell don’t fall for anyone. But when I’m close to Logan, I’m pulled to him like a damn magnet.
He’s been hurt in the past, and I want to prove to him that there’s more to me than just physical strength. When he finds out I’m totally screwing up my senior year classes, Logan offers to help. It turns out there’s a whole lot I can teach him, too—and not just about football. I feel myself falling for every part of him: his brilliant mind, his big heart… and every inch of his body.
Being out and proud as a football player means I get more attention than I deserve, both good and bad. There’s no chance I’m letting Logan get dragged into the headlines and picked apart like I am.
But I'm used to scoring. Winning. Getting what I want.
This had such great potential! So many fun tropes were in place here, but nothing really happened. I love a good low angst book and a sweet HEA, but I need some tension and action to move the story forward. This book dragged on more than any other in the series. I was pretty disappointed.
This was exactly what I was looking for at the moment, and I just LOVED this book!
OK so I haven't read the previous books in this series - so I'll definitely be going back to check out the rest of the Red's Tavern series. But this stood very well on its own. I just adored Brody and Logan and how swoon-y sweet this was.
I really enjoyed that Brody was an out and proud football athlete, and I loved his group of friends. And Logan was the opposite of Brody in every way, and they just worked so well together. If you're looking for opposites attract, jock/nerd, first times, and sweetness and hotness, then you must read this story. No major angst or melodrama, which I was super happy about too.
Very sweet and just left me with a smile on my face, gosh these two were adorable together!
Not being used to follow this football, I sometimes have difficulty following the game vocabulary, however this book is so sweet that even that didn't stop me to love this book Logan and Brody don't think they'd be more different when they meet when they share a house during the school year. But so much difference is no impediment for the attraction between the two to emerge, however Brody has not wanted relationships for several years so as to protect the other party by being a public figure in the student environment However it seems that Logan, with his sweetness and shyness manages to get into the shell where Brody hides I really enjoyed this book even without realizing the vocabulary of this sport I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review
This was an amazing jock/nerd book! At first I was wondering what connection these two had to Red’s Tavern, but the answer came and I suddenly remembered who one of them were. I’ve enjoyed every single book in this series, and this book was a thrill to read. Always when I read this author I find myself thinking I’m so happy she’s an author! She writes so freaking amazing, with great main characters and side characters. It’s easy to read, but really not boring. It’s like she’s taking her time when she writes, and it shows in her writing that she cares about her stories. She doesn’t rush anything, so when the first kiss scene came I found myself holding my breath because it’s both beautiful and so emotional described. I’m feeling everything the characters feel while I’m reading and that’s a big plus when I read a book. Both Logan and Brody was amazing characters, and as a reader I really feel like I get to know who they are. And often we read books with this trope that makes us feel like the nerd needs to feel safe and be more confident, but in this story it’s both, only in different ways. They both finds themselves feeling whole because of the other person. It’s such a beautiful love story and I hope that some of the side characters gets their own story. If you still haven’t read this author, you really have a lot of amazing books to look forward to. She never stops to impress me with her words and I can’t wait to read the next story she writes.
Loved, loved, loved Brody and Logan!! Brody is the college jock that struggles to remember anything unless it’s football. Logan is sweet, shy nerd who hides away reading texts books instead of socializing. When they meet, sparks fly. I loved that they became friends first! I loved the interactions of previous characters from Red’s Tavern!! This whole series has been amazing!! Overall, this was a really fantastic story! It’s really well written, the pacing and flow will catch you and not let you go!! Highly recommend. I’m voluntarily reviewing from an advanced copy that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.
The Tight End by Raleigh Reubins is the sixth stand alone in the Red Taverns series . An opposites attract roommate romances between a forgetful extroverted football jock and brilliant shy introvert.
This was an easy, steady romance. No over the top unnecessary drama. Our jock Brody and shy Logan were both likable characters . There was sexual tension and the intimate scenes well done. However, while there was nothing I disliked about the book it was underwhelming. It didn't bring anything new to the table. The only scenes that stood out to me as memorable were the ones that actually took place at Red's Tavern.
Overall, The Tight End was an enjoyable romance with a virgin MC, friendly reminders, insecurities, taking chances, cuddles, flip cup battles and historically inaccurate movie nights.
P.S. I hope Brody's brother , Roman , finds love at Red's Tavern
This is a sweet friends to lovers romance between Brody and Logan, two opposites with sparks flying between them. It's a drama free romance ,is well written, moves fluidly and is another winner for Raleigh Ruebins! Loved it!!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
This was a very sweet and pretty much angst free college age romance! This was nice because a lot of the college age stories have a lot of drama! Brody is a jock who is actually already out and proud of who he is in that regard, but he is very insecure about his academic abilities. Logan is an introvert and very insecure and shy in social situations, but super book smart! These two complement each other well which is described beautifully in their thoughts about one another. I enjoyed Brody's descriptions of Logan as a shy, sweater wearing nerd twink, which seems to be Brody's weakness! I received and ARC and If you are looking for opposites attract in a sweet and endearing way this is the romance for you!
I hate to say this but The Tight End was probably my least favorite story in the Red’s Tavern series. Logan and Brody were sweet together and apart, but their relationship just felt a little forced and lacked some substance.
Logan is a self-professed history nerd who spends most of his free time in the library or reading until he falls asleep. But the biggest thing to know about Logan is that he’s lonely and has been for a long time. After being bullied in high school he became more and more shy and introverted, keeping himself closed off to making connections.
Brody is a football superstar whose name is known all around campus and is often linked to gossip about his romantic partners and sexuality. He’s a charmer with a huge personality and he turns Logan’s world upside down, introducing him to a side of college life he’d never explored before.
Logan and Brody become housemates during their senior year and there’s definitely some mutual attraction there. They become friends and help each other out with being more social and with studying history. But, as their relationship turned into more, I just didn’t feel the connection. Yes, they were sweet together and both deserved to be happy after everything they’d been through, but I didn’t love the two of them together. I found myself checking to see how many chapters were left pretty frequently - I just wasn’t invested in their story. They felt a little immature/shallow as characters and I wanted more from them - more connection, deeper conversations and more interactions with other people, especially their families.
I’ve really enjoyed the Red’s Tavern series overall but didn’t connect with Logan and Brody so this one was just okay for me. Hoping for a more mature story next if Raleigh Ruebins keeps this series going.
This was a whole lit of sweetness. There's next to no angst and it was paced beautifully. Often I get distracted and go do something else but this kept my attention throughout. Though there isn't a lot of steam, there was enough and it fit the characters. I loved how Brody was insecure about his intellect and his memory. It made this gorgeous, athletic man more realistic. Logan was a sweetheart, hiding away in his books after an awful high school experience and he felt very relatable. There are a couple of visits to Red's Tavern since Sam is Logan's cousin and it was great to see those characters again. Can be read as a standalone but might be better appreciated as part of the series, or at least after reading The Stepbrother
This was a really sweet opposites attract, jock/nerd book in the Red's Tavern series. Logan was introduced a the previous book, but this can be read as a standalone. I love that it was straight forward and drama free as Brody & Logan learned to let go of their fears of the past in order to have a future. I do wish there was more of Red's Tavern, but I really enjoyed this book.
I received an advanced copy and voluntarily gave my honest review.
She did it again! 😍 there is a reason why Raleigh Rueben’s is one of my favorite authors. And this book is an excellent example.
Logan is a lonely, insecure and highly intelligent guy who hide’s himself from his fellow students at his college. Brody is out and proud tight end at the same college’s football team. Highly popular and outgoing. So a roommate situation between those two just have to be interesting. 😁
Raleigh’s writing always make me happy and with a warm feeling in my heart. Her characters are always on a personal journey and comes out better selves at the end of the books . So are those two lovely guy’s.
If you read the previous 5 books, this should be a automatic download for you. Logan and Brody’s story is a wonderful addition to the Red’s Tavern series.
I received this book as an arc, and this is my honest review. ❤️
I love a good football-jock-meets-shy-nerd love story. As one would expect, Raleigh Ruebins gives us just that in another spot on perfect novel for her Red's Tavern Series. With five MM/romance series, and several MM standalones, this author has the whole testosterone-based romance thing down.
Always a reminder that what we see on the outside is not who someone is on the inside, Ms. Ruebins gives us two very gentle men, a high profile football jock with a player reputation, and a very introverted history scholar who longs to experience life. The two students are serendipitously thrown together and the story goes from there. There is a lot of snark, a lot of warm and fuzzy moments, plenty of non-gratuitous erotica and a darn good happy-ever-after. Yes!
*4.5* The Tight End is a great nerd/jock college addition to the Red's Tavern series. Logan is the sweetest, history loving here and his new housemate, Brody, is the star tight end for the university's game football team. There's a undercurrent of chemistry between them from their first meeting but they also work so well together as friends, each being a source of positivity and encouragement. It doesn't take long for them to share their first kiss and take big steps forward, both together and individually considering how hesitant they are for their own reasons about having anything together. Logan has never been with anyone and has pretty much loved in the background since bad bullying at high school and Brody keeps to one night stands to keep from getting any one hurt by the gossip that's shared about him online, being an out football player comes with a lot of unwanted attention. These two are equally adorable and hot together. I love how things progress for them through the story, it's a mostly easy read with just a moment of drama. They've got a great group of friends around them that are a huge support in the good times and bad and it's great to read Logan come out of his shell with Brody by his side but also learn to believe in himself as well, 'take it til you make it' definitely a motto for inspiration. It's so good having Logan's story after meeting him in Sam and Fox's book, The Stepbrother. He deserves his HEA along with Brody. They are both strong but in different ways and it takes getting to know each other for them to learn that. I'm hoping that her have Roman's story soon (Brody's older brother who works campus security) and it was a lot of fun being back in Red's Tavern. A recommended read for those who have enjoyed the series so far and those who enjoy nerd/jock, first times, college romances. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
Logan Martinson seems to have it all in the "smarts" department. Having two professors as parents certainly helps a lot, too. But however much Logan excels in intelligence, he lacks in social graces. The shy and introverted history major meets his match when the heart-throb openly-gay tight end of the college football team, Brody Bryant, becomes his new housemate. The towering jock leaves Logan tongue-tied, but in an awkward state of admiration and attraction. As the two housemates bond in the coming weeks, the attraction between them grows stronger.
I found The Tight End to be very well-written, endearing and fun. The plot is exceptionally well constructed, and the author's development of the book's main characters is fabulous: I couldn't help but to fall in love with Logan and Brody! I especially liked the interaction between Brody and Logan, in that each guy has something to give to the other - Brody helps to bring Logan out of his shell, while Logan helps Brody to focus on his studies and strive for better grades. The two guys, although so different physically, actually are like two pieces of a puzzle fitting together. They NEED each other!! The secondary characters - especially Logan's friend Dani and bartender cousin Sam; coupled with Brody's teammate friends Vance and Mike and his security cop brother Roman - all add a sense of familial love and support to the relationship the two guys are building.
An awesome novel - very heartwarming and entertaining!! 5 stars!
Hands down the best of this series... Brody and Logan were perfection ❤️ Nothing hits better than the jock/nerd trope but these two characters far surpassed my expectations for this book. This one was not only sweet and sexy it was the very definition of a beautiful loving partnership...it was low drama with high feels leading to the perfect HEA....Logan and Brody couldn't have been more opposite on the surface but getting to know one another they find that they are very much the same, both lonely...both not looking for love...both adrift the last year of college until they find each other....they both find the perfect loving support system and worlds best cheerleader in each other and I was sooo there for it. I highly recommend this book and this series as a whole, if your looking for something sweet and spicy with a lot of heart, this is the book to get!!!
* I received an ARC from GRR, this is my open and honest review *
I rated this book 3.5 Stars so I rounded it up to 4 Stars. Another good addition to the Red’s Tavern Series. I enjoyed it but I was probably the least favourite of the series so far. When Logan was introduced in Sam’s story I really wanted him to meet a guy that helped him become more sociable but not completely change who he is. He’s still himself but just a bit more. I thought Brody was such a sweet and caring person. He’s an out college football star but has stopped wanting a relationship and only sticks to hookups as he doesn’t want his partner to have to put up with all the trolls like his ex received. He doesn’t care what’s written about him but go after someone he cares about and he’s furious. I loved how Logan never made fun of Brody for not being very bright and thought it was cool how he found a way to help him be able to retain the course material and it actually worked.
I also liked that Brody wasn’t mean to Logan after he found out that Logan had only ever kissed one person, so pretty much no experience. I thought Logan and Brody were sweet together, and their chemistry was pretty hot. Dani, Logan’s friend is such an awesome friend to have, a true friendship.I loved how supportive Brody’s teammates are especially his friends Vance and Mike. They happily go to Red’s Tavern with him, even though they’re straight. They also really like Logan even though on the surface it looks like they have nothing in common, since they’re jocks and Logan’s a complete nerd. They’re nothing like the a*sehole bullies that Logan had to deal with while in high school. I wonder if Raleigh is planning to write more books in this series like maybe Rome ends up coming out as bi. I’d definitely recommend this book, series and author to everyone.
The Tight End by Raleigh Ruebins is the 6th book in the Red's Tavern series and I was not disappointed. The story is based loosely around Red's Tavern but had all of the elements we've grown accustomed to with this series. Brody and Logan are just too cute. The way they balance each other out is what a romance should be made of and more. The characters had not only the cuteness factor, but the nerd/jock storyline worked so well. Brody is the star tight end for KMU Wolves and Logan is the sweet, virginal nerd that you just can't help but love. All through high school, Logan was teased by the jocks for being not only a nerd, but for being gay. Throughout college he has stayed out of the spotlight, hoping no one would notice him. Brody the sweet, scatterbrained and forgetful man, on the other hand is one of the only out gay players in college football and he's not sorry about it, except when it comes to the fact that he's promised himself he would never get in a relationship while in college again. When he moves in Logan, all bets are off. He's attracted to the gorgeous nerd right away and it's obvious the feeling is mutual. The more time they spend together while Logan is tutoring Brody in history, the more their chemistry grows. Then one night it all changes. Will their chemistry out of bed be just as good in bed?
I cannot recommend this book enough. Not only did it have the chemistry I've come to expect from the author, the character development was very well written. I'm just sad this is the last book, because I could definitely go for more of the men of Red's Tavern.
First, we get Logan's POV. We met Logan in the last book as Sam's brilliant yet shy gay cousin. Logan is in his senior year at KMU, studying history and completing his bachelor's before he goes for his master's. Both his parents are professors at the college, and his best friend Dani has just moved out of the apartment Logan shared with her.
Now he's getting a new roommate, and it's none other than Brody Bryant, star tight end of the KMU football team. Now, Logan was completely terrorized by jocks in high school, since he was (and still is) the nerdy, bookish type. Therefore, he is NOT looking forward to having the university's most popular jock in his home.
But Brody is nothing like Logan expected. He's sweet, kind, funny, and openly gay. Logan finds that although he usually prefers to be on his own reading, he actually likes spending time with his roommate. It doesn't hurt that Brody is hot as hell.
Brody is equally as attracted to Logan. Logan is EXACTLY Brody's type, a sweet, sexy, nerdy twink. Even though Brody has his choice of hot guys, he finds himself wanting none of them, instead choosing to hang out with Logan.
When Brody starts showing romantic interest in Logan, Logan is hesitant. He knows Brody only does hookups, and that he won't get into a relationship for fear of the public commenting and dragging whoever Brody is with. But Logan is sick of hiding, sick of having his nose in books, sick of being boring. He wants something new...as long as that something new is the college's hottest jock.
This one was SO SWEET. Classic nerd/jock pairing, but still so fun and sweet to read.
Logan is an accomplished student and he is a bit of a nerd. He does not have much of a social life and he realizes that in his senior year he should push his boundaries a bit but he is introverted enough and has enough left over trauma from high school that he is not there yet. When his roommate and bestie, Dani, decides to move in with her significant other the vacancy leaves room for Brody, a tight end on the football team, to move in. Logan is at first concerned about living with a jock and avoids contact with Brody. But Brody is not what Logan thought he would be and as they get to know and spend time with one another they find that they are a good pairing. Brody is out and proud which is cool. Logan is bright and starts to help Brody with his academic work, while being with Brody helps Logan stretch his social boundaries. Theirs is both a very sweet friendship and romance, and a steamy getting together of two healthy young men who want both a physical relationship and intimacy. I really liked this couple so much as they were multidimensional, both had strengths that the other benefitted from and their connection grew organically. So good! I received an ARC from GRR for an honest review.
Logan is going to KMU to start getting his teaching degree. He's very quiet and shy. The problem is he doesn't know how long he can keep his longing for a relationship locked in a box and pushed aside. Brody is a tight end on the football team. Being on openly gay man in sports gets a lot of unwanted attention. His ex boyfriend couldn't handle it. He's decided he doesn't want to be in a relationship because of it. He meets his new roommate, Logan, and things change. Will he break all his rules or will he hide his feelings?
Logan is such a sweet guy. He's been hurt by a lot of people and it's not fair. I wanted him to open up so badly. Brody may be a cocky football player but he's very affectionate to the one he's with. Logan finally finding someone who cares about him is beautiful. The way Brody feels about Logan is precious. The incident with the Chinese food was hysterical. Logan's drunk night at the bar was great. Brody's tutoring lessons were not what I expected. I've never looked at anything that way. Logan's first frat party changed so much. I love Danielle and Roman. I hate that they both talk bad about themselves. The ending was perfect for them. What a cute story. I honestly wish it was longer.
I can say it quite simply--I love this series. Each book raises the stakes and creates characters I want to know and hang out with. This one is beautifully written about book nerd Logan and out football player Brody. These two find themselves being roommates each having some stereotypes of the others. Soon they realize despite what has happened in the past does not determine the future. My heart broke listening to Logan talk about being bullied in high school by the football jocks (so many of us can relate to that) thus his hesitancy to trust Brody. However, Brody is not the typical jock. He is caring, out, and sensitive, but based on his past he does not do relationships. Soon both men have to face their issues and they become more and more interested. I loved watching this old fashion love story develop. My eyes were teary and my heart was full...i did not want this book to end. I want and need more of this couple, like I do at the end of all the books in this series. So many great supporting characters that I cannot figure out who I want book seven to be about. I just hope these two continue to reappear. They have what it takes to make a relationship last. I did receive an ARC and leave this honest review.
Logan and Brody were so sweet and cute together. The feels were tame despite the spice being way less tame and while each of those things were exactly what they needed with one another, I will admit to being underwhelmed by the passion for the relationship. It was wonderful, don't get me wrong, but for some reason I felt a lack of punch.
The take on the jock/nerd trope was a breath of fresh air because it decreased the possibility for angst almost completely thus making the story a really sweet read. It was also a quick read despite me being distracted from the story quite a number of times. Distractions are normally present in my life during my book reading times, but it didn't take much to bring me out of the story because of that lack of punch I mentioned earlier.
So this is absolutely a recommended read in general, and definitely one I'd recommend over others in the series, it just isn't one I would revisit over and over and over. An occasional re-read I can see in the future, but only when I'm reminiscing on certain tender scenes that really echo what I find addicting about these kinds of stories.
