A fantastic read with all the excitement you could want. I love Danny's (Danika) character, she's former army, MMA fighter and a great person. She's with her uncle the Ambassador of Isreal and Smoker is there with some of his team mates as body guards as well. Theres plenty of action, suspense and funny moments as well. Excellent read. HEA.

Smoke and his Delta Force team find themselves in Israel providing for backup security from the escalating danger that a US Ambassador finds himself in. He never expected to develop feelings for Danny who is not only his bodyguard but his niece as well or expect that she would become part of his mission.
Danny has survived a stint in the military as well as some time in MMA so protecting her uncle should be in her skill set. The attraction she has for Smoke is a complication she wasn’t prepared for or the fact that her uncle wasn’t the only one in danger.
The characters of Smoke and Danny as well as their backstory draw you in as they take us on an adventure as they fight for their lives and each other.
Danny has survived a stint in the military as well as some time in MMA so protecting her uncle should be in her skill set. The attraction she has for Smoke is a complication she wasn’t prepared for or the fact that her uncle wasn’t the only one in danger.

Nuova lettura e nuova avventura, oggi con una insana voglia di divisa militare e di diventare una lottatrice di MMA, vi parlerò del nono libro della serie "Delta Force Strong" ovvero "Smoke: Breaking Promises" di Elle James.
Asher Gray è un militare e fa parte della Delta Force, i compagni della sua squadra non sono solo amici, ma molto di più, loro sono la sua famiglia. Le loro missioni sono sempre molto pericolose, ma anche nelle difficoltà riescono sempre a portarle a termine. Il loro motto è "Nessun uomo resta indietro".
Tutti nella squadra hanno un soprannome e quello di Asher è Smoke.
Dopo una breve missione antiterrorismo, Smoke avrà un nuovo incarico, fare da guardia del corpo all’ambasciatore degli Stati Uniti a Gerusalemme, James Turner, che ha ricevuto diverse minacce e alcune riguardano sua nipote Danica Turner "Danny", ovviamente non sarà solo, ma affiancato dalla sua squadra.
Il sergente Smoke è un militare di quelli tosti, super allenato e temerario, sempre pronto all’azione, a casa va molto raramente, solo per cambiare la valigia e ripartire per una nuova missione, nessuno che lo aspetti, nessuna persona di cui preoccuparsi, fino a quando deciderà di smettere con la carriera militare. Perciò fare da guardia del corpo all’ambasciatore è solo un altro lavoro da portare a termine. Tutto si sarebbe aspettato tranne di incontrare Danny, la nipote dell’ambasciatore, colei che al loro primo incontro l’ha steso a terra.
Ed è così che entra in gioco Danny che dagli Stati Uniti è volata a Gerusalemme a fare da guardia del corpo allo zio, una ragazza per niente docile e mansueta, anche lei era dell’esercito, ma ha dovuto lasciarlo a causa di uno stress post traumatico.
Il suo stress è stato causato da un evento che ha cambiato inevitabilmente la sua vita, e lei invece di soccombere al dolore e alle paure ha deciso di entrare nel circuito delle lotte MMA. Tutto il suo dolore e la sua rabbia li sfogava sul ring, fino a diventare una delle migliori, ed è per questo che si trova lì a difendere suo zio. Non sa però ancora che verrà affiancata da Smoke e dalla sua squadra, le minacce sono più insistenti e lei da sola non può farcela. Il primo incontro tra Smoke e Danny assomiglia molto ad una lotta sul ring, due persone dedite al loro lavoro, che mai avrebbero pensato che oltre a quello ci possa essere dell’altro, ma quella chimica che si crea quando sono vicini è difficile da eludere.
Una storia d’amore che si evolve sempre di più, ovviamente il libro non parla solo di quello, ma tra sparatorie, attentati e un traditore, la lettura si farà sempre più affascinate e movimentata.
Io amo le letture che parlano di uomini dell’esercito, e di donne che hanno il fegato di reagire, e questa lettura mi è davvero piaciuta. Smoke al di là della sua divisa è un uomo fantastico, premuroso, di quelli che se ne trovano raramente e quando lo incontri lo tieni per tutta la vita, Danny anche se ha sofferto è riuscita a rialzarsi e non farsi soggiogare dalla paura.
Libro consigliato, sia a chi ama i militari, e anche a chi vuole trascorrere qualche ora di piacevole lettura.

If you enjoy mystery, adventure, suspense, strong female and male characters, fast action and romance, then you need to pick up this book, "Breaking Promises". The book starts off with Asher " Smoke" Gray's Delta Force Operative Team was deployed in Israel to eliminate a rocket launcher and rockets maybe too. While the Delta Force is busy, Danica "Danny" Turner, the US Embrassador for Israel's Niece, is spending time with her Uncle as his personal Bodyguard.
The US Embrassador of Israel, James Turner, has been receiving an increased number of threat, lately. Due to this increase, Smoke's Delta Force Operative Team was rerouted to the US Embassy located in Jerusalem to provide support from the Army to treat these threats as terrorist activities against the US embrassy, as a target, the US Embrassor, James Turner and his Niece, Danny, as the main targets, then the rest of the staff listed as targets. It was decide that Smoke would stay at a the Embassy and work closely with Danny and the US Embrassador.
Danny decided, based on her background and experiencs, she would never get married. She felt all men were annoying, dominating, self-seving and only wants to satisfy themself! Smoke figured he wouldn't get married until he retired from The Delta Force Operative Services. He has seen to many of his friends get dear john letters and divorces.
The pace of story is fast and the action is non stop so Smoke and Danny are thrown together . Neither of them wanted to fall for each other. When Danny is kidnap, each of them realize separately how much they meant to each other. Will they get the chance to tell each other their true feelings? Read the book to find out if they do before time runs out for Danny.
I received a free copy of this book for a honest review. I would recommend this book to anybody who enjoys military romance and romance suspense books. If you are looking for a good book with action and adventure then go buy and read this one.

The author delivers another wonderful story in this already much loved series.
This time, Asher Gray/Smoke gets his story.
Smoke is sent on a temporary mission to Israel as the bodyguard of the US Ambassador. A few of his fellow team members are sent as well as back up.
When Smoke arrives at the Embassy, he is immediately drawn to the Ambassador’s niece, Danika/Danny Turner. She is not only lovely and has a presence, but is also former Army and MMA fighter, who is currently acting as the bodyguard to her uncle.
As a relationship develops, so does the danger surrounding the Ambassador, the Israelis and the Palestines. When Danny is kidnapped nothing will stop Smoke from finding her .
The story was action packed with a strong female character and of course , the hunky Delta Force members.
Aside from the main story line, we are also reminded that as awful as it is, rape has been known to occur amongst the military forces. Frequently shoved under the carpet without regard to the victims. Something that truly needs to change.

Another brilliant read in this series always filled with fast action stunning suspense and of course red hot romance
Asher (Smoke) Gray isn't sure if being sent as a bodyguard for the US Ambassador for Israel is punishment for the major disaster him and his team had while working with the Israeli Special Forces but all idea of it been punishment fall to the wayside when he meets the ambassador's niece Danika (Danny) Turner. Danny has come with her uncle who recently lost his wife not only as his assistant but also as his bodyguard after all as ex army and a MMA fighter she is more than capable of protecting him She isn't to happy that she will have to share the duties with a delta force soldier. That all changes when she meets Smoke in a way no one saw coming and is instantly attracted to him though she has never had these feelings since a incident when she was in the military. Soon her inquisitive nature and her uncle's wanting to get to the bottom of what is happening put them both in danger and Danny is kidnapped Will Smoke and his team be able to get to the woman he has fallen in love with in time You will have to read to see

One of the Army’s motos is No Man Left Behind. And they weren't going to start now. The man was nicknamed right. Where there was Smoke, there was fire. This story is action-packed and fast-paced. There is a twist in the story you won't see coming. After a rough start, their romance blossoms with amazing chemistry. A must-read story.
“Smoke” and his team were on a mission in Gaza. “They continued through the streets, avoiding any other humans at all costs. They weren’t supposed to be behind the enemy lines. The US Delta Force operatives weren’t supposed to get involved with the ongoing war between the Palestinians and the Israelis.” But someone was launching rockets and they had to be stopped.
Danica aka Danny was visiting her uncle who was the US Ambassador to Israel. He had received several death threats and she would be his bodyguard. She is a former MMA fighter, and a former soldier. After several weeks, her uncle advised her that they were getting a team of Delta Force Operatives at the embassy. “She wasn’t sure she’d like having Army men running around the halls and grounds of the embassy. Her time in the Army hadn’t been the best.” All that changed when she met “Smoke.”

The action starts right from the first page, keeping me glued to the pages and not putting this read down. Asher aka Smoke is with his Delta team on a secret mission and from there he is tasked to be the bodyguard to the US ambassador who is in Jerusalem with his niece, Danica aka Danny. His first meet with Danny, he lands on his face…literally…and is impressed by Danny. Not only could she hold her own in a fight, but she’s an independent, strong beautiful woman who actually has him rethinking his bachelor ways. Danny is wary of all men but Smoke breaks through her walls and proves to like her just the way she is…now all they have to do is keep her uncle safe as tensions rise and one of them becomes a target.
Sooooo so so good, this has to be one of my favourite reads by this author. A strong female lead who also has her vulnerabilities who shows all of herself to Smoke….WOW. Smoke, confident, strong, protecting and isn’t intimidated by Danny and her strength….loved it! The story flowed beautifully with some suspense, action, steam and amazing characters!!

Elle James is a talented author who knocks out hit after hit and this story is no different.
Smoke is a beautifully masculine, protective alpha male who truly believes in fighting to protect his country and finding evil that threatens their safety. It was great to see a man comfortable in his own masculinity that having his backside handed to him didn’t faze him. Watching him work seamlessly with his family, his team mates is a beautiful sight to see, poetry in motion.
Danny is a strong, beautiful character who has made it her life’s work to be able to protect herself. After overcoming an atrocity no woman should ever be subjected to she went from strength to strength. It was admirable to watch.
There was an instant attraction and that leapt from the pages. Their chemistry undeniable. Elle James writes with a depth not every author can achieve and she does so with respect of each storyline and the situation she tackles.
A beautiful story. Heart warming, addictive. The kind of story you want to jump into and stay awhile.
Highly recommend.

I am totally blown away with the layers, the undercurrents that Elle puts out there. This is the story of Smoke (Asher), Delta Force and Danica (Danny) ex soldier, MMA fighter and currently in Israel as her Uncles (the US Ambassador) bodyguard. The first meet between Danny and Smoke - hysterical. What transpired in the Army, what is laid out in this book about Israel and so much more, layers that are interwoven into the story line providing a depth you don't usually see in a romantic suspense. So awesome to see a strong but vulnerable woman, a Valkyrie warrior (I believe Smoke referred to her in his thoughts). There are moments of steam, moments of laughter, comrade with Smokes team and family. Its all hands on deck when shes kidnapped (its in the blurb - not spilling state secrets) but she doesn't sit around waiting. Awesome HEA that also brought the feels. Thank you for the arc! I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions.

Danika “Danny” Turner has confidence and skills now after her time as an MMA fighter. She only wished she had them during her career in the army. Her father encourages her to become her uncle’s bodyguard. Then informs her she has a co-bodyguard and the surprises keep coming.
Danny’s vowed to never be weak again. But Smokes sexy smile and all those muscles does make a girl go weak in the knees. The moment he touches her and shows her what a real man’s touch feels like she’s a goner!
When Danny gets kidnapped Smoke will go to the ends of the earth to find the woman he loves.

Danny was my favorite character. She had been through so much trauma in the military, but she fought back and came out of it stronger than before. Despite what she had been through, once she determined Smoke's purpose in her uncle's entourage, she was able to be herself with him, and he respected her position.
I appreciated how careful Smoke was with Danny, as well as, how he appreciated and respected her talents and her intelligence. He didn't look down on her or hold it against her when he discovered her previous occupation. MMA actually saved Danny both emotionally and physically.
Smoke and Danny had great chemistry. They were witty, sweet, and romantic which was surprising considering the environment they were having to deal with around the embassy. This book also had action, danger, and suspense. An entertaining read that I was able to finish in one sitting.

I appreciated how careful Smoke was with Danny, as well as, how he appreciated and respected her talents and her intelligence. He didn't look down on her or hold it against her when he discovered her previous occupation. MMA actually saved Danny both emotionally and physically.
Smoke and Danny had great chemistry. They were witty, sweet, and romantic which was surprising considering the environment they were having to deal with around the embassy. This book also had action, danger, and suspense. An entertaining read that I was able to finish in one sitting.

Asher, aka Smoke, our hero Delta soldier, got me revved from the start in Breaking Promises, Delta Force Strong Book 9, by Elle James. We first see him in the middle of an explosive situation in Gaza and soon after at the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem for his next assignment as backup bodyguard for the threatened U.S. Ambassador. Why backup? Because our heroine, Danika, aka Danny, is the official bodyguard for the Ambassador, who just happens to be her uncle. Danny, a former MMA fighter and ex-Army soldier, has a few fancy moves when she first meets Delta hottie Smoke, and let's just say sparks fly. ( I only wish I could do half the stuff she is capable of doing while in formal dress!) One fake engagement, a deadly suicide bomber threat, and a kidnapping later, and our two main characters find out just how perfectly compatible they are, both in love and in life! A truly fun read with equally strong and captivating characters. I received an ARC of this book to review.

Breaking Promises is a fast-paced romantic suspense from author Elle James. This is a fairly quick read, perfect for those with limited time for reading. Ms. James has given readers the gift of a well-written story populated with an amazing cast of characters. Asher "Smoke" Gray went from one Delta Force mission straight into another. Danica left the military and after a stint doing MMA she's now with her uncle, the US Ambassador in Jerusalem. Danica and Asher's story is loaded with drama, humor, sizzle, action and suspense. I enjoyed this book from cover to cover and look forward to my next book by Elle James. Breaking Promises is book 9 in the Delta Force Strong Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliffhanger.

In author Elle James' latest Delta Force Strong book, Breaking Promises, Delta Force member Asher "Smoke" Gray is in Israel where he and his team are tasked with protecting the US Ambassador to Israel and his niece Danica "Danny" Turner. Smoke is assigned the position inside the embassy to be the bodyguard to Ambassador Turner and Danny. Hamas has heightened and increased their threats. Danny Turner has chosen to leave the MMA ring to assist her uncle and act as his bodyguard. She never expected to be attracted to the Delta Force team member acting as a second bodyguard but she sure was. This book has a well-developed storyline with lots of action. I liked how the book begins which sets up what takes place further along in the story. I really enjoy Ms. James voice. This is a great addition to the series.

This is an interesting book, as much as it is a gripping one. Ash and his team are in Gaza on a carefully planned mission that doesn’t quite go according to plan, and they are then directed to the embassy in Jerusalem, where Ash is to be the bodyguard to the ambassador and his niece, Danny, a former MMA fighter and veteran, still recovering from the assault that ended her military career. Nothing is as expected in this book, although the Delta Force team is as delightful (and determined) as ever. Danny is the perfect match for Ash; she’s strong, courageous, and doesn’t back down. For me, this wasn’t a quick read; instead, it was an interesting and thought-provoking one as well as one I wasn’t going to put down till I was done.

Danny is one kick-ass woman. A tomboy through and through. Her life revolved around the Army then the MMA circuit. Now she is helping her uncle as a bodyguard for him during his visit to see the Israelis and Palestinians.
Smoke has been assigned to watch them both. He loves that the first time he meets Danny she puts him on his ass while dressed to the nines. He takes his job seriously and when their feelings become more he is the one to help her overcome her fear after an incident while she served.
Together with the help of Smoke's team, they take down a man who uses the people to make his money illegally.
Great story, I love this series.

I always love how Elle can write a story that can and probably has happened to women in the armed forces. Are they lesser than they were or are they stronger because of what happened? I’m sure you can name some are stronger and some that have trouble getting over what they experienced. This is the story of one that eventually came out stronger and able to take care of herself. When she meets Asher “Smoke” Gray of the Delta Force she can’t believe that she reacts to him the way she does. Can they see themselves working through to a happy ever after? Grab this great addition to the series.

4.5***** stars. Danny is in Israel with her Ambassador uncle and assigned herself as his bodyguard. She is former Army and MMA competitor. When the Ambassador’s life is threatened, Smoke’s Delta team is utilized as his protection detail since they just completed a mission there. He meets her when she takes him down to the floor when she discovers him in her uncle’s office. She is not happy with him there but even less when it is announced they are engaged to maintain cover while they investigate the threats. There is lots of action and intrigue! Well written and interesting read.

MMA vs. Delta
Definitely a great read! A lot of action, laugh out loud moments and hot chemistry. Smoke and Danny's story had an excellent storyline, as well. Danny is ex-military, ex-MMA fighter and now a self proclaimed bodyguard to her Uncle who is an U.S. Ambassador in a foreign country, who is receiving death threats. She is bound and determined to protect her uncle. Smoke is starting a brand new mission with his Delta team to protect the Ambassador. As soon as he arrives to the Embassy, he finds himself in an awkward position, pun intended.
The author did a really good job with this story!

Loved everything about this story!!!! A strong and capable heroine who is also willing to accept help when needed and a hot alpha delta soldier with a protecting nature, but who also is more than happy to show his pride in Danny’s ability to hold her own in dangerous situations. I adore Danny and Smoke!!! I really appreciate how Elle James made Danny’s character willing to still put herself out there after experiencing a horrific sexual assault while she served in the military. An outstanding read!!! Highly recommended!!

Smoke and his team are in Israel to help protect the Ambassador. When they get there Smoke is in for a surprise when he first meets Danny the Ambassador's niece. She throws him for a loop. She's ex military and a MMA fighter and proves right away she's someone you want on your team. She is a strong character and just what Smoke needs in his life. This book is action packed, has drama, suspense, romance and a little humor thrown in. Elle did a great job with Danny's character and what she went through while in the military.

Danny is a former Army, and MMA Fighter. She is working as a companion and protector to her uncle. As the threats come in the mission becomes more dangerous and the attraction between the two ignites. This is a quick read with a good balance of intrigue and romance. I had been waiting for Smoke's story and it doesn't disappoint.

Very eery that these last two books are about Israel and Hamas. Similar to today’s war in 2023.
Danny went through a lot in the army and Storm never planned on a relationship. Both being her Ambassador to Israel uncle bidy guard brought fate forward. Danny being kidnapped could change everything.
The last book brought Lance to work with this delta team. But the first 8 books was Lance’s Delta team brotherhood. I feel that should have been one series and thus one another. It left it disjointed

Always a pleasure to read Ms. James books. This is a nice one sitting read with Smoke and Danny (Danica). Sweet and understanding is what Smoke is and I loved his understanding of her issues, how he moved forward taking into consideration her feelings and reactions. Just the right amount of heat and suspense. Loved the take-down, and absolutely loved fishing and permission. Definitely recommend.
